Funny how you divert the argument from Africa to the west. Western religious scientists are quite different from their African counterparts. Western religious scientists still carry out research and continues asking fundamental questions about the nature of the universe. Western religious scientist still look to scientific solutions to their problems. Africans scientists on the other hand does not feel they need to search for answers to any thing. They use God to fill the gaps. They also proffer spiritual solutions to physical problems.

Religion is an manifestation of greed. Religion (especially Islam and christanity preys on the greedy nature of man. It promises material, psychological and spiritual enjoyment in return for total obedience to the God's representatives (either in the form of your foreign conquerors or local oppressors). They promote division instead of unity of purpose which is an essential ingredient to achieving greatness. Is like the biblical tower of babel. How can a people build a tower to the heavens (bridge to greatness ) when we have tens of different languages (tens of religious sects with thousands of denominations )?

The reality that you should be asking is; why is that African countries take loans that they cannot pay back? Why take a loan in the first place if you have no means or plans of paying back? Other countries don't default on loans like we do.
Now, what do you suggest we do to resolve our HUGE infrastructural deficit? Are you not ashamed that you cannot take a train from Nnewi to Lagos or from Lagos to Ibadan, in the 21st century for that matter. You would have thought my brothers from the south east would be most exited by a functional railway service as they are the highest number of travellers in Nigeria and they move around the highest number of goods, from ports to their manufacturing plants or their warehouses, or from agricultural farms to factories to markets and ports. But alas, they are more interested in "sovereignty" and China taking over the assets.

The house pointed out the clause, which Amaechi never saw because he didn't personally go through the agreement, cedes Nigeria's sovereignty to China.

However, Amaechi is now saying what the Chinese usually does, instead of clarifying what they signed. And Amaechi admitted that he just found out about the clause.

Why should a minister be signing a contract worth billions of dollars without taking his time to read the details word for word?

This is not up for a debate because it's crystal clear the minister is just trying to defend his absurdity.

Did china insist on determining our exchange rate, did china insist on opening our ports to all their goods? did china insist the government cancel petroleum subsidy or agricultural subsidy? How did the contract cede Nigeria's sovereignty to china.

Mind you i am not exactly defending Amaechi or the Federal Government. I believe all loans must be scrutinized by the National Assembly. My questions is where has the National Assembly been all these while? Their job should not just be collecting Constituency projects and sitting allowances, but should actually perform legislative duties.

That the problem with moving forward in Nigeria, everything is reduced to APC vs PDP, therefore the merit of the arguments is not even considered. PDP ruled for 16 years without giving us critical infrastructure like power, rail and roads. PDP also borrowed billions of dollars apart from wasting our oil windfall. But all you guys shout about is Buhari or APC has finished us. They even choose to forget that PDP had already signed our sovereignty to a private company - P&ID, that is threatening to seize our assets overseas, without providing any service or loan to us. Reducing evey argument to display hatred for Buhari or APC immediately destroys the merits of the argument.

Can't you list the stringent conditions and the risk of loosing our sovereignty under the loan contract? Any loan taken by governments, private firms or individuals has terms of repayment and penalties in case of default. The problem with Nigerians is that we have this mindset of collecting loans without plans for repayment. That's why I don't give loans anymore to anyone, even with a valid loan agreement. Once you give loan, it's bye bye to your money. You can try that abroad.

Then you talk about sovereignty. Which loan conditions impinge on our sovereignty more, Chinese loan or IMF loan conditions? IMF loan conditions dictate to governments how they should run their countries. They insist you open your ports, devalue your currency and abolish all subsidies. The Chinese are only after their money back.

How do you hope to manufacture and distribute any product including petroleum products without a fast efficient railway system? You think we can develop our economy by depending on dilapidated roads and trailers and trucks? When the British came to Nigeria, the first if not the only infrastructure they build was the railway. And, it is this railway system we have been using for over 100 years.

Do you know how much loan we have taken in the past to fix the refineries and the power sector? The money spent on these sectors over the last 20 years would build 3 modern railway lines with modern trains and stations all over Nigeria? But, till today, no refinery is working and we generate only 5,000Mw of electricity.

In the present situation where our earning is not even enough to run the governments, how do you suggest we build critical infrastructure?

You cannot have income of 100k monthly and then take a loan of 50m from the bank to build a house on your father's land while at the same time using the land as collateral. You will loose both land and house to the bank because your income cannot pay the loan!
Since you mentioned Peter Obi, Peter I promise you would have used the loans on commercially viable projects/ infrastructure, then use funds generated to pay back the loans and from the profits, build other needed infrastructure.

You mean to tell me a rail network in a country of 200 million people is not commercially viable? In that case road transportation is not also viable. A these young shall grow, chisco and all must be making huge loss. What about air transportation, they too must not be commercially viable.

The same people that are criticising the Chinese for trying to secure their loans will call OPC, Army and Police on anyone that owes them common N100,000. They will size their debtor's TVs, phone, fridge and even cars to recover their loan.

All it means is the Chinese dont trust our courts and said if we lend you this money and you dont pay we have the right to sue you outside Nigeria and Amaechi agreed.......nothing wrong with that!

I am not a paid commenter or a member of any party. I believe there is massive corruption in every facet of the Nigerian society from our families, communities to the national level. It pervasive. The difference between you guys and I is that I hate complaining without doing much about it. If I have a complaint, I take action or I don't complain at all.

If no to the above then I'll pretend you are ignorant on what has been happening in this country since its inception. So much so that you trust politicians and whatever BS contract figures they throw around.

I don't trust politicians at all. Politicians are some of the most dishonest people in the world. But, in the absence of alternative figures and information, I have to go with the figures they present. That's how things work, you have to work with the data and information you are given. I can't just guess figures out of the air.

I know enough to know that the contract is over-inflated. You want proof, do your own research as I have, google.com to your rescue and you'll have some guidance as to what the approximate actual figures ought to be.

It's you that that makes the claim, so the onus lies on you to prove your claim. You cannot expect me to be the one to prove your claims.

I am not saying the project is not needed. I am not saying all politicians around the world are not corrupt. I am saying our mode of corruption in this part of the world is very archaic and destructive. That contract as with just about most large contracts awarded on a large scale (I can name many but do your own research), can definitely be used for more projects. The real chopping should not be in over-inflating contracts, we are so bleeping backwards, compared to the rest of the world, that we need like 30 of such large scale railroad projects to even have a chance at being at a competitive country (read the vision 2020 document by Accenture prepared during Obasanjo's administration).

Politicians around the world are corrupt. Even in China which prescribed capital punishment for official corruption, political are being sentenced to death on a regular basis. The problem with Nigeria is that the general public condones and promote corruption based on tribal, religious, sectional and sentimental basis. I call it "she is our sister syndrome". We see the backlash from their people when politicians like I boring and Alamiesiegha was prosecuted and jailed.

As for how splitting the country helps us. The only reason for mass corruption on every scale is easy access to oil money at every level of government coupled with gullible, nonchalant citizens. You split the country you leave the SS to worry about their oil and be rest assured the ones who have the oil are not usually the ones that turn out to be best as you can see all around the world today. This will not automatically eliminate corruption in new regions formed but atleast it helps people in their respective regions fight against their individual govt free of tribalism, free of religious bias.

As a citizen of one of the largest oil community in Nigeria, I can tell you that giving 100% of oil revenue to the communities will end in disaster. We will be worse of than Congo, the country with the most natural resources in the world. Even the communities itself will tear itself apart due to greed by community leaders, youth and traditional leaders. Then foreign countries will make sure that the region will always be in crisis. It's easier to exploit a country in crisis than a stable and peaceful one.

Please stop wailing Jonathan's loss of 2015, even Jonathan is fed up with the wailing. The rail project did not start under those that shouted "change " from the West. It was started under Obasanjo. In fact it was president jonathan that signed the contract with the Chinese, but he did not fulfil his end of the contract. Buhari came in and renegotiate the contract.

The contract has gone far now, are you suggesting Buhari cancel the contract and abandon the whole project? What is your suggestion on the way forward?

you can only profess solution in a sane country, Nigeria is not yet a sane country... If you prefer solution, don't be surprised if your solution is taken and then dumped because of some interest which is greater than national interest are involved.

Nigeria's case has defied all solutions.

If Nigeria sticks to contract and has plans, who won't welcome such contracts.

Even if there are plans believe me, later on, no matter the amount of money saved for repayment one some groups of fat headed fellow from the north or south especially north would put hand in that savings and make sure it empties.

Then a dead end probe would start... Las las nothing would come out of it. Case closed.

Then the Chinese can make times three of that loan and repatriated, while influencing the government through corruption and subjecting the masses to all kind of treatment and silly transport fares that nobody would be able to check.

We don't have the culture of following up project, neither do we have the culture of paying debt not to talk of maintenance that is not the topic of the day.

We all know our inadequacies and flaws. I am asking how we resolve them or move forward. What is your suggestion?

How can we be spending $5.3bn on a railroad from Ibadan to Kano? A railroad that does is not latest technology? These are railroads used for locomotive trains and we are spending this much, to connect just 2 major cities?
How much will they spend to connect Lagos to Abuja?
How much will they spend to connect Abuja to Calabar?

As I said, provide is an alternative cost for the project, since you are sure it is over inflated. Now, I am not questioning your assertion, I am just asking for proof.

It does just include railroads and locomotive trains, but also stations and support services for the running of the trains. The train will connect not just two major cities, but several other cities as stop overs.

The other rail lines are also ongoing.

This particular loan cannot be looted. The money is not paid directly to anybody's bank account. The money is used directly to fund the project according to the contract terms, and the contract is being handled by the Chinese themselves. How do we revive our dilapidated railways without borrowing from international lenders, and how do you think is the best ways to ensure international lenders get their money back. If you disagree with the terms of the loan, let me know why.

There are three strategies for achieving secession - political, Diplomatic and War. In each of the three, you need alliances . Even the mighty USA spends considerable effort in building alliances before embarking in any war. Even in politics, you need to build alliances, sometimes with your enemies before you can grab power. Kanu has broken the little chance of alliance the igbos had cultivated over the years.
Buhari learnt this same lesson the hard way, when he thought he could become Nigeria's president with only the northern votes, he failed woefully 3 times. It was when we formed an alliance with the SW that his ambition of becoming the president was realized.

If Kanu decides to take the war route, the North, SW and even core SS would probably form an alliance against the igbos, with the way Kanu has antagonised everybody.

Even international alliance he has failed woefully. He only cultivated the Israelis due to religious reasons. He forgets that Israel cannot take any step without approval from USA. He and his IPOB goons has insulted Britain and Democrats in USA. I honestly don't understand his strategy.

Let us use true economic growth indices, Human development index(HDI) human capital, per capita income, education, etc. Where does your state stand among these indices?
