benalvino3:That's in your make believe world that you created in your mind. According to medical and court records and to which a jury of 12 accepted, George Floyd cause of death was homicide by Derrick Chauvin as a results of kneeling on his neck for 9 minutes. You are too emotional, and most times you can't think straight especially when someone disagrees with you. Here are some facts for you.You are schizophrenic. You hold on tenuously to unfounded and illogical beliefs of Trumps deitification and his infalibilty. You then add to it a diabolical hatred of Democrats, liberals and globalist and before I forget Blacks . Very dangerous combinations indeed. |
Boomkalakuta:Wrong mindset. Only Igbos investing in igboland cannot lead to development and progress of igboland. Igbos need to start encouraging other tribes and even foreigners to start investing in igboland. Countries that developed rapidly are those that encourage foreigners to invest - ie UAE, USA, Canada, even China. They bring in capital and skills. The Saros and the Agudas from Brazil brought the first major development of Lagos (Lagos Island). They were the ones that starting building with cement blocks in Lagos. Some of their structures are still standing after close to 200 years. The igbos are too hostile to foreigners, they need to be more accommodating. |
budaatum:I wish Trump becomes the Republican nominee, this time the competition would not be close. dementia bunker Biden would trounce him so bad that kraken, 10,000 mules and dead voters would not be able to help. |
Obrigardo:They are anarchists who lacked love, compassion and empathy, attributes that makes us human. They probably lacked love in their childhood and so they grow up to hate and destroy. They hate everyone, their families, their communities, everyone that looks different, has different believes or opinions. Believe me they are suicidal, they don't mind destroying themselves as long as the whole country or even the whole world gets destroyed along with them. |
jaxxy:Which people will ve held accountable. Political crimes including murder is not a crime in Nigeria. I inec will announce its prepared results, they will ask people to go to court, the winner will be sworn in and the courts will throw put the cases on technical grounds. Nigerian elections seems to be getting increasingly violent and bloody. |
dynicks:Not exactly. Lagos was originally Eko, a trading post established by the Benin Kingdom. Before then it was probably a fishing outpost for Aworis and the Eguns from Badagry. The Portuguese came and made it their main trading post and thus renamed it Lagos. The British took over, made it their slave post on the way to Badagry which was the main slave port. During colonization, the British made it their administrative capital, they actually attempted to set up a colony in Lagos. That's why almost all roads, buildings and infrastructures on Lagos was named after British Royals and amniniststrors until they began to change them fairly recently. Beforw independence the status Lagos was contentious. The Yorubas wanted Lagos handed over to Western Nigeria, the others opposed and demanded it to be defined as belonging to all Nigerians, aka no man's land. At the end of the day, Lagos was defined as belonging to all Nigerians, and the post independent capital remained there. Please note that the capital of western nigeria remained in Ibadan. The road that leads from Lagos to Western Nigeria was named Western Avenue. In 1967 General Gowon created 12 states with Lagos State as one of them. He then joined Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry, Ikeja, etc, from western nigeria into Lagos. Then the migrations started. Yorubas from all over the former Western Region migrated to Lagod. Igbos who lost everything during the civil war faced Lagos. Even northerners from all over former northern nigeria started migrating to Lagos. Today Lagos has become overpopulated and under tremendous social problems. Everyone now wants to claim Lagos now. If something is not done to decongest Lagos by developing other urban centres even in Yoruba land, Lagos will literallyexplode.t |
Kobonaire4:False They don't depend on oil revenues alone. They have invested heavily in trade, services, infrastructure, tourism and internationally, and today they are reaping the rewards of their investments. If they stop exporting today, they would not go broke. |
Kobonaire4:Restructuring lies with the national assembly as it is a constitutional issue. Why has the national assembly not restructured the constitution and thus the country after 24 years of democracy? How long do you think they would need to change the constitution to reflect restructuring? |
Kobonaire4:I am really not bothered about the politics and I don't care who becomes the president. My own is concern is a free and fair process thar reflects the wishes of generality of Nigerians. If INEC followed its guidelines, there would be no question of rigging or legitimacy of the elections. We should discourage the practice where governors and political bigwigs rig elections and impose candidates on the electorates. Democracy will only start to take root when political office holders are afraid of the electorates. Right now the relationship between political office holders and the electorates is that of overlord and servant because their votes don't count. |
Kobonaire4:I am not praising anything. I am asking why the constitution has not been changed by civilians after 24 years, abi dem dey wait for military to come back and change it for dem? |
Kobonaire4:What do you mean UAE is an oppressive nation?who are they oppressing? - their own citizens or foreigners? Housing, education, health care are free for citizens in UAE. Would you not crave that kind of oppression? We tried army rule in the past and emerged poorer for it.What do you mean? Nigeria is poorer now than at any time during military regime. It takes time to build a democracy. How much time do we need to start building democracy because what we are building now is not democracy. People are being threatened to stay off the polling booths, thugs are killing and snatching ballots boxes while security agents look on, electoral officials are writing results that not reflected by the actual votes, at the end of the day president is said to be elected by less than 10% of the total population. If that you definition of building democracy. All I know is, I am freer under democracy, even with the APC and PDP mess, than I ever was under army rule.Sing a song or put out a blog insulting the first lady today (not even the president) and we will see if you are freer under democracy than under military rule. Tinubu has hinted that he will be be intolerant to press and opinion freedom when he ascends power. He is already threatening Peter Obi for rejecting his election. |
onumadu:My brother imagine. Something the Military did in 6 months with little resources and people, the civillians have not been able to do after 24 years of democracy, and after spending tens of trillions of naira with thousands on so called legislators. And these same people are still blaming the military for giving us decree 24 of 1999. So why exactly are we spending trillions naira on both state and federal legislatures? |
Kobonaire4:That your personal opinion. Lots of people will say their lives is far worse in terms of security, standard of living and happiness now than under the military At least under this civillian rule, I can call out this government, and the incoming one for their evil. I could not dare do that under army rule.I don't see much difference in terms of freedom of expression between this our democracy and military rule. Lots of people called out the military, some were persecuted, some were not. Some people like late chief Gani Fawehinmi and Fela were a thorn in the flesh of the military. Fela openly insulted a sitting head of state and he was not locked up and arrested. A blogger insulted the first lady, and he was arrested, taken to Aso Rock and beaten in front of the first lady. Is that not evil? Let's be a democracy. At least we have a choice. I am just as disgusted as you are with this democrazy, but army rule is a big no for meThe so called choice is an illusion. The government in conjuction with the ruling class have already decided on who will be president before the first ballot is cast. If we actually have choice, why is it that the choice is limited to only 3 or 4 candidates. Since this democratic experiment Atiku, Buhari, Tinubu are perpetual candidates. If a primary is held a hundred times, and they are allowed to contest, they will always win. Cheap ke? The same looting that happens now, happened then. The same budget deficits, same losses, etc ...happened under army rule. How much looting takes place in military regimes? You want to compare the revenues and budget under military governments to civilians? You want to compare the amount borrowed from external creditors under military regimes to under this democratic dispensation. The budget for a single year is more that the total budget of the Abacha and abdulsalami admistrations for 8 years. Let's get this democratic experiment working. It's just not working. It's getting more expensive with each election and getting worse in terms of credibility. APC won because the opposition was divided.APC would have won obviously because the opposition is in disarray. But it cheated with the connivance of INEC. Let INEC prove that APC actually win fair and square. That's why we are all so sad. But if the egos in PDP had calmed down, we would have not had an APC government incoming after the disaster of the last 8 years. That's politics. The same thing happened in the US. The republicans lost the last election because they were disunited. All we need and deserve is a free and fair election. If it failed, we can take the blame in clear conscience. We've tried army rule twice. It DID NOT MAKE US BETTER...infact it even inflicted some of the problems we are still dealing with today. We are suffering because of the mistake of 15 january 1966. Yes, the first republic was corrupt, but at the end, removing it created the mess we find ourselves in.As I said the army came in to unify Nigerians, and they did a descent job of that. Its only the military that's keeping Nigeria as a country today. The day the military divides, we break up into a thousand pieces. Democracy is not built in a day.Yes. But we do not have to reinvent the wheel. We can build Rome faster - probably in a decade by buying/adopting the city plan. UAE built |
Kobonaire4:Army rule has its pros and cons just like this quazi-democracy. Pros of military rule Nigerians were more united. No tribalism or tribal hatred among Nigerians. Nigerian were living in all parts of Nigeria without molestation or oppression from tribalists or religious extremists. Isolate cases of religous extremism was quickly dealt with by the military. No sharia,no militancy, no cultists. Anyone could be governor of any state irrespective of tribe. Lagos has had igbo military Governors twice and no one complained. Cheaper. Military regime was far more Cheaper than the present democracy. Power charged hand by simple coup and state governments by simple appointments. This last election cost Nigerians close to half trillion. This will more or less wasted every 4 years. Another area of cost savings under military is political offices and appointments. Under military regimes the head of state and governors have very little appointments, the number of ministers, special assistants, senior special assistants, advisers, special advisers, etc, are very few. Under democracy, apart from commisioners, there are a plethora of assistants, special assistants, senior special assistants, etc. Governor Wike alone appointed over 200,000 special assistants in one go, all to be paid from state coffers. Then there is the cost of the legislature. Under military there is not legislature. So the cost of running national assembly and state assembly for each state is non existent. These were the reason why there were more public investments in infrastructure during military regimes than democracy. Let me add Less Corruption. Under military corruption was an oligarchy. Only the head of state, his family and few allies have access to public treasury. Under democracy, corruption is democratised, every level of government is corrupt, highly corrupt. On the federal level, every minister, DG, head of parastatal has his/her hands on the public purse. Its a competition of who can steal the most. On state level, the state treasury is at the mercy of the Governor and his Godfather - no checks and balance whatsoever. The local governments are just national cake distribution points. |
Kobojunkie:I gave a perfect example to buttress my point. Chess which is the ultimate Sport of brain power is dominated by men. If women and men are put in the same grade, the best women grandmaster would not make top 50. Another good example is computer programming. Men outperform women in computer programming. How many war generals have been women in the whole of recorded history? Men will outperform women in activities that requires a lot of brain power. |
optionalY09:Any tribe that crave to be respected and become xenophobic to establish itself has an inferiority complex. Respect is earned and not forced or imposed. |
Bornbiafra:The same thing that stopped Olukemi Olufunto Badenoch née Adegoke from contesting in Lagos but instead chose to contest for prime minister of UK and is now the Secretary of State for International Trade. If you guys have become racist/tribalists just because of politics, don't fret when others around the world take a cue and drive you guys back to Lagos. |
optionalY09:And you think Lagos can contain all the Yorubas in this world? What about me an Itsekiri just like Remi Tinubu, can I claim Lagos? |
optionalY09:So Yorubas from Togo, Benin and Brazil can claim Lagos? |
omohayek:There is definitely something not adding up with your worship of Tinubu. For you to claim that you are from the ruling family of Lagos but at the same time a worshiper of Tinubu - a non native is something of a paradox. Ironically I am closer to Tinubu himself than you. My mum knew the Mogagi and Tinubu families as she grew up in Isale Eko. We all knew Bola Tinubu was adopted. Tinubus wife's family house is very close to my paternal family house in Warri. Now the returnee slaves have as much rights in Lagos to you and morally more rights than Tinubu. They definitely have more rights than an Ambode, Fashola or Gbajabiamila. To me Tinubu is like an imposter, just like Ptolemy in Egypt, Joseph in the Bible or Alimi in ilorin. He through shear luck, political machinations and collaborators captured power and impose himself on the people. To claim Tinubu is responsible for the development of Lagos is like saying Joseph was responsible for the development of ancient Egypt. Lagos was already the most developed city in Nigeria before Tinubu became governor in 1999, before then lagos has had some decent governors like Marwa, Jakande, Mobolaji Johnson, etc. |
DenreleDave:Freedom of speech and expression as enshrined in our constitution. Buhari and Atiku had rejected the election victory of their opponents in the past, and no one threatened them with arrests. |
fford:Ominous times ahead in Nigeria for press and general freedom in Nigeria. President Tinubu would make military head of state Muhammadu Buhari look like a Saint. Till today Trump is still denying the 2019 election victory of President Biden and no one has threatened him with arrest. Once Tinubu resumes power, anyone that denies his election victory will be arrested and locked up extrajudicially. |
Freethinker87:That's because the original Lagosians are not tribalistic, they have a long history of interactions with people from all other the world apart from all over Nigeria. They we're part of the Bini kingdom, they were repatriated slaves, they were British subjects, so there is little room for tribalism/racism, and that's why they intermarry without issues. The real tribalists are the immigrants from Ijebus-igbo, from Shaki or from Ede, they can't imagine marrying another tribe. They are very intolerant to others. I did both my primary and secondary education in Lagos Island. I school with the Fernadez, Oshodis, Ojoras, Phillips, Fahms, all original Lagosians. There was no atom of tribalism in the children of these families. |
Iamgrey5:Ibadan was a war camp created to assemble Yorubas from all over Yoruba land to confront the Fulani jihadists. So what's your point? |
raskymonojendor:Is it only Aworis or Ijebus that are Yorubas that have migrated to Lagos? Is it only Aworis or Ijebus that occupy all political and appointive positions reserved for Lagos indigenes? Is it only Aworis or Ijebus that take scholarships, employment opportunities and other benefits reserved of indigenous Lagosians? |
a4cube:Below is am interview by Alhaji Olufemi Okunnu, an Awori. You will see that the real indigenes themselves are feeling oppressed by other Yorubas. That feeling is just simmering beneath the surface because of general greater animosity towards the igbos. If the igbos should leave today, that animosity will bubble to the surface. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/awori-are-the-original-inhabitants-owners-of-lagos-okunnu/%3famp

Olabukola11:The same can be said for Nigeria. Lagos can be said to be Nigeria's heritage and so is owned by every Nigerian irrespective of state. What did other Yorubas contribute to make it Yoruba heritage. If you are talking about Ile-Ife Oyo or even Ibadan no one would argue. Now, I don't buy the stupid IPOB "Lagos is no man's land" mischief, but it is annoying Yorubas from Kogi, Ilaje or Oyo is claiming the same rights to Lagos as the original inhabitants of Lagos - The Aworis, the Eguns and the Ijebus. The original Lagos that gave Lagos it's fame and importance was Lagos Island, where the Portuguese, the Benis and the British established their headquarters, from there Lagos expanded to its present size. With the influx of Yorubas from all over the old too Empire and other tribes in Nigeria, the original indigenes have been subsumed. |
alcuin:These cultures have outlived their usefulness. They contribute nothing to the progress and development of their society in the 21st century, instead they are retrogressive. Most of these so called cultures are usually oppression and exploitation of women, children and non natives. We might as well bring back the killing of twins. |
mymadam:During the last presidential elections voting was still taking place at 12 midnight in many polling stations in Lagos Lekki axis. INEC officials did not arrive until 4:00 PM on Election day. Then what happens if counting of votes is not finished by 11:30 pm? INEC officials are to physically transmit the results appart from electronically to the Local government and state headquarters. Scheduling an Oro festival on Election day will be the height of irresponsibility. If allowed to pass, then every other tribes will put their cultural/traditional festivals on Election days to drive away people - both indigenes and non indigenes. |
Kobojunkie:False claim! Men's brains are slightly bigger than women's brains on the average. Even the heads of males are bigger than those of the females. The difference in brain capacity or intelligence is not much, but it's there. Women cannot defeat men in chess of the same class. |
Martinsmine:I don't believe I read that. She should encourage him to punch and slap her for disrespecting him? What should he do if she actually slaps him or spits on him - stab her with a knife? I am appalled you are encouraging violence on the weak. Can he try such rubbish off a fellow man like him tells him to fùck of? What will he to to his children if they disrespect him? If a man is not ready to be disrespected in the slightest manner, he better remain single for life. As I said earlier, if this little misunderstanding just after 2 years of marriage is threatening the marriage, then the marriage is not worth it in the first place. I have been married for over 15 years, and I did get occasional disrespect in the beginning, but dwe have learnt our dos and donts over the years and learnt to respect them. Separation had never been an option not to talk of divorce. |
@ OP You are the only person that can assess the true situation of things and the next steps to take. There are lots of variables in this issue. We have to consider the basis of the marriage in the first place. What is the marriage based on? Is it based on love, money, convenience or other extraneous factors. Are the two families involved and in good terms? This anger must have been brewing up for a while and it's boiling over. You have to try and find out the true cause of his anger. Is it these few isolated cases of disrespect on your part, or are there other sinister issues. Is there another woman in the background? Where exactly has he gone to? - to a family or friends house or to another woman's house. Give him some space and time for things to cool of. If he doesn't reach out within a week, then assume the worst and probably the end of the marriage. Reach out to his family and close friends to get a feel of what he intends to do. If he actually wants a divorce, then you need to conclude the divorce before leaving for the US. Because if you don't, you will need to come back in the future to finalise the divorce. In the divorce settlement, you should get some assets and compensations for being a legal wife for 2 years unless there was a prenuptial agreement. If he comes back home, insist you both needs to see a Councillor. Maybe your church counsellor or pastor. Becareful lots of pastors are sheep in wolves skin. They might try and milk you guys for money. If the marriage breaks as a results of this small misunderstanding, the marriage is not worth it in the first place. |
