You're not answering my question. What is the factual justification for sacking this lady? They said it was against the police act. Now that we know the act has been repealed though not circulated, what policy has she broken? If she has broken any, then we can move onto why I think the law was misogynistic. First, she didn't flaunt any rule. The 1943 rule cited has been repealed. Second, even the 1943 police act was misogynistic. Punishing one gender cause nature has made it such that only that gender bears the consequences of the actions of two people is against the basic principle of equity. Do you know that that same act also required women to take permission from their superiors before getting married? It's not surprising considering when it was written (women were seen as properties then) but what's surprising is some people still holding tightly onto it in 2021 cause they aren't the ones affected. This is not 1943, any individual should have the right to plan their life as they seem fit regardless of gender. I believe that's why the new police bill removed that section.

Laws not gazzeted are not used to take actions in the police force because they aren't yet circulated. But provided the signature date predates the date of pregnancy, the law can be cited in the law court, gazzeted or not.

That the law is not gazzeted doesn't make it less valid. The law became valid the day it was signed. The police can only use the fact that it has not been circulated to claim ignorance. This fact invalidates your second paragraph.

This is not a discussion of promiscuity cause men are leading in that area. This is a discussion of equity and justice and as far as that goes, there's no need arguing this. Men don't get pregnant and that is why have equity to balance things out. Women getting pregnant is natural and shouldn't be a reason to sack anybody. Marriage is a choice.

You mean the section about dismissal of unmarried pregnant women? I think it's section 127. That was written in 1943 when women didn't have the right to direct make their own life choices and was recently repealed by the Nigeria Police Force (Establishment) Act 2020 signed into law last year. That law is not longer valid. It's shameful the police cited it but even more embarrassing that Nairaland boys are more sentimental than logical whenever a woman is involved. Maternity leave is a financed absence. If financing her maternity leave was the problem, she could have been given approved absence. This means she wouldn't be paid for the period. Sacking her cause she got pregnant is simply inhumane. It's not about imitating anyone, it's about equity and justice.

This is no excuse. Maternity leave is called maternity leave cause the woman is paid for the period. The most the police would have done was to deny her that since there's no marriage certificate to support the memo. You don't sack people because they don't abide by culture. The law they cited has been repealed.

It's her decision and her private life, the police can deny her material benefits given to nursing mothers if the policy says a marriage certificate must be presented before one gets those benefits. Sacking her was an overreach and it's surprising gender bias isn't letting Nigerians see that. They cited a law written in the 1940's and their excuse is that the new law hasn't been been circulated. Does that make it any less valid? Now they know the new law, have they reinstated her? It's not fair.
