Being an entrepreneur is not easy. Working for someone is not easy. Each comes with it's own price. |
adadike:Well, women are going through a lot everywhere in Africa. Our religions and cultures are misogynistic in nature. But then, it'll only take a discerning mind to see the one happening in his immediate environment. Good morning. |
ImaIma1:Lol... I don't think I need to comment on this thread anymore. You've said all that needs to be said! |
Narrow minded profiling is a big issue everywhere but the one in Nigeria is on another level. Dreadlocks mean you're a criminal. Flashy dressing on ladies means they're prostitutes. Laptops signify online fraud. There are many more examples. Virtually everyone does this profiling and thinks it's OK until they're profiled themselves. |
Nigerians leave what really matters to waste so much time and energy on irrelevant things. I'm trying to figure out how people view things in the country. |
Adakintroy:To what end? Lol... you guys will never cease to amaze me. People dress in a way that makes them feel more attractive or confident. Both men and women do this. If she wasn't confident in her skin colour and moved to change it, it might not sound good but it still wouldn't invalidate her claim of having built the house on her own. If she wasn't born into a rich family, the tendency to dress flashy could have set in once she started making money. All these other possibilities asides, she's a single woman who's yet to get a life partner, dressing in a way that'd make her look younger is a chance she'd gladly take. There are many reasons why people dress how they dress. You picking on one possibility and totally basing your argument on that only points to the fact that you are more bent on nailing her to the cross that being open minded. This is not about her sex life, most people have sex. This is about her claim of building the house on her own as against the claim that a man built it for her or that she gives her body for money. She has a source of income well known to the public. So there's no reason to discredit her just cause she's a woman. Unless you know the man who pays her for her body, I'd say even her sex appeal doesn't suggest a man bankrolled her house. The premise of your argument doesn't just support your conclusion and the mere fact that you could be wrong, as you duely noted, is enough reason for you to desist from stamping your assumptions as fact. We aren't arguing about wizkid's style of music. I'm not even his fan. But we both know he's a successful Nigerian musician. My point being that he worked hard for it and you acknowledge this cause if he showed off a new house tomorrow, you wouldn't be here arguing about who bankrolled him. Give ladies the benefit of the doubt too. The lady in question might not be your type of virtuous woman but she could have also worked hard for her money independently. Until you have anything to invalidate that, all you've got is assumptions. We all make assumptions. The problem is when we push it or sell as facts regardless of the fact that we don't have enough details to support them. It's even more terrible when those assumptions are based on prejudice. **Edit** I noticed you updated your write-up and circled around race. Nice afterthought but racial profiling doesn't make all blacks criminals and for this reason, every black man must be given the benefit of the doubt. That courtesy is what you need to extend to others. She look at the mirror and she felt good in her own skin. That doesn't validate your claim. |
lefulefu:I get. The OP is a special case really. |
Teena18:Ok... you're probably right. I was just shocked. |
dollytino4real:Seriously, bro, are you going to defend this too? Do you do this in Nigeria? Let's call a spade what it is. Eating anything other than snacks is a public transport is wrong. lefulefu post=98170279:@bolded: He didn't say anything is wrong with eating whatever one wants to eat. Eating this in a public bus/train is wrong. That's what he said. But the OP actually needs a therapist to help him with his complex. I ain't joking or trying to insult him. Take a look at his posts, the self hatred is glaring. He even hates his own name. They're many like him who are always quick to call themselves apes because they've come to accept that's what they are. They're always self conscious and tend to second guess their own abilities just cause of their backgrounds or skin colours. OP, you're not an ape, dear. The man is wrong but that doesn't make you or your kinds less human. |
Nairalandwizerd:Wow... This joke is insulting and it doesn't reflect well on the people that brought you up. You guys want girls to be less dependent and have their wn hustles but you're always quick to undermine their efforts and even sexualize them while it at. Tomorrow, you'll join other to say it's only se.x Nigerian girls know. |
Adakintroy:Wizkid works hard. And he's successful. And yet he is nothing like other successful people like Mark Zuckerberg. That was my point. You liking his song or not is an entirely different thing and doesn't invalidate my assertion. I may not think Genevieve is a great actress but denying her success is delusional. I will respect your opinion if you call it what it is, an opinion. But here you are labeling someone you hardly know a harlot cause she's flashy, and you're presenting this assumption as a fact. Now, that's not an opinion, that's defamatory. And like I said, if the only thing you judge by is her appearance, there's no need having this chat. I grew up in a country where I'm profiled based on my skin colour alone, I know better than to do that to others. But then, even the racists didn't think they were doing anything wrong. Go on profiling women as you desire, it's who you are. No hard feelings. |
jollymizzle:You know that as long as this world continues to exists, there will always be cultists, armed robbers, ritualists, drug dealers, assassins and so on. So, that moved your attention to the ladies instead. Understandable. But the truth is, as long as this world exists there'll always be women who date these people you mentioned. I'm only saying, before we call out women and their choices, let's criticize the man who's the criminal here. |
CaptainPrice1:I was waiting for this comment. It's always about the ladies regardless of who's perpetuating the crime. When a woman kills, ladies are terrible. When a man kills, the lady killed herself. In one way or the other, the lady eventually takes the blame home. You didn't even call out your fellow man who murdered another human being. But you were quick to point out how the lady brought it upon herself. While you're pitying the ladies, also be kind enough to pity the yahoo boys themselves who risk their lives as well. Let's learn to balance out our criticism. |
Adakintroy:I've come to learn sexism is like religion, it always seems right to the adherents. But if the reason you're holding on to to conclude she's man dependent is her make-up, I must say that reeks of shallowness. Nobody asked her really? She was being defensive for no reason? Dude, it's either you didn't even read the post at all or you're just bent on being biased. Did you miss this part? "Recall that instagram blog gist lover had reported that the very expensive house built by the Socialite was bankrolled by a very influential man in Lagos" Wizkid's kind of music doesn't need to appeal to you before you acknowledge his hardwork and success in the Nigerian music industry. Given your stance on acknowledging other people's success, I don't think there's any need engaging in this chat any further. I might as well be talking to my hairbrush. Your post is full of bias and sentiments; no depth, no logic. |
Adakintroy:Everyone mustn't be like Okonjo Iweala. Wizkid definitely doesn't look like Mark Zuckerberg's kind of "make it big" but we all agree he's making it big. You cry a river when SARS officials profile you based on your dressing, hairstyle, etc. but you're quicker than a peregrine falcon to judge women by thier appearance. She's a woman, makeup has always been part womanhood from time immemorial. Her style might not appeal to us but it doesn't tell her story nevertheless. Conclusions based on assumptions is prejudice. If you know the man who's paying her to sleep with him, enlighten us. Otherwise, let's desist from stamping our assumptions as facts. |
Woe |
SpicyMimi:Oh... Ok. More like a collage or a technical school. Thanks. |
mansakhalifa:This is probably an old post but it only proves the lady just wasted her time responding. She said they get pleasure from watching zeaworld just the way you get pleasure from watching EPL and you're asking how dare she compare. The debate of "how dare you compare" doesn't fit in here cause it's more about what appeals to an individual. Nobody's source of relaxation is better than another's. Everybody can't like the game of 22 people chasing a round object up and down a big field. |
Don't stress yourself ma. Nigerians claim they want their women to be independent and industrious but once a lady makes it big, she's called ashawo. |
superior1:By first typing "lots of giants to stand on" even before acknowledging the extensive skills of these guys, you clearly aimed at watering down thier achievements a bit or, at least, gave the impression. The fact that they had giants to stand on is a welcome piece of information that would have been better appreciated if you had first acknowledged their adroitness. Our electronic engineers have thousands of giants to stand on yet they haven't been able to manufacture a marketable toy radio. These guys don't need to be the first to be appreciated especially in a country like Nigeria. Just saying. |
meobizy:I'm surprised y'all are even responding. Isn't it clear the kid just needed some attention? Lol |
Numero9:You can't blame the education system when there's no clear alternative. Writing exams to measure one's progress after a period is inevitable. And once the exams are written and the scores are out, the data already place students. Bedsides, the competition has good aspects we can't just look away from. It is healthy enough and it reflects real life where we must compete to survive. You just can't remove competition from our existence. The education system has it's limitations but saying it has done more harm than good is overstretching it. |
Drew13:Lol... I've never heard that. |
Please, what is the full meaning of HND and what kind of institution awards that? |
Canadians will listen to anything that has Drake, Celine Dion, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber or Bryan Adams in it. |
Wow |
Ladycewhy:Hahaha... ![]() Religion has always been used as a tool to promote discrimination and inequality. Religion is indeed a powerful force. Like fire, it could be good or bad depending on who's wielding it. |
gaius01:Lol... true, we learn everyday. Glad I finished reading your post before quoting you. I'd have parroted what a million people have already said to you. |
Hahaha... Ok, that was so funny! |
JoeEeL:But why not just answer yours and leave people who haven't said anything to you? |
Vanzcharles:Lol... have you died before? |
bukatyne:I see. I might have reservations about this especially as it relates to the fact that the passage used by Reno might is also be subject to contextual analysis. But I'll leave that for another day so as not to get into a religious argument. Thanks. |
