Hhmm... isn't it cool how no one is saying "Nigerian men are... ". It's either the Cross guy is addressed directly or they say "this generation is...". That's how it should be. |
Lmao... do this to my bird and he will not come near you that month. |
Pedophilia is just disgusting. |
Alioune:No, I wasn't trying to be aggressive. I clearly didn't agree with your argument. I was just being polite about it. However, it is not a surprise that disagreement presented as politely as possible would come off as passive aggression on a forum where everyone is out to draw blood. I've had enough arguments on this platform to know that. But it's still left to us not to get carried away by emotions but address the subject instead. You said I should read the original post but it would seem you, the OP, forgot to read the original post when you went off arguing about nomenclature and thereby making that the main subject. Yes, the thread was/is for Muslims but you wouldn't blame the Christians triggered by the first comment, would you? The poster invalidated thier identity and quite naturally, they felt the need to correct him. It would be your duty to bring the thread back to order, but here we are. To be very honest, I actually believe you only told me it was not a big deal simply because you didn't have any response for the angle I came from. Otherwise, you would have simply continued with the debate like you did with others. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it. Personally, I couldn't care less about anybody's religion. But if you are going to allow bashing of non Muslims on your thread (or demeaning comments like the FTC), then you'd be doing the same thing you're criticizing. And, of course, you should be expecting reactions from those affected. |
Alioune:I did actually read the thread and if the terminology issue was indeed a derail, then it appears you enjoined others to derail your own thread cause you literally made it the centre of the conversation. When you say "please, read the thread", I don't know what else is you want me to read seeing as the majority of the posts here (including yours) are about the terminology. So you can't really blame me for joining the what seemed to be the active conversation. Maybe it would have been better if you had told the first commenter it should be a "non issue" instead moving to make it a big deal by actively debating it. Nevertheless, I agree with you it's not a big deal. I don't really see what's wrong in respectfully addressing people how they want to be addressed especially by someone complaining about other people disrespecting his religion. Like you pointed out yourself, such irrelevant debates will only make a mess of your main purpose of creating the thread. Except, of course, I'm the one misunderstanding the purpose. Thanks for the response. |
Alioune:Hi there! I was just passing by but I don't really get this argument (even though I've heard it several times). So if the word used in a non English context is "Al-Nasara" which means "followers of Christ", how is it a problem that the English Bible gave it an more English translation "Christian"? Were you really expecting the English word "Christian" to appear in the non English Bible? In Mandarin Chinese, we say "jidu jiao" which pretty much means the same thing. Are we also to argue that the word "jidu jiao" was not used in the original Bible? I believe different languages have thier respective translations for the original term all meaning the same thing, "followers of Christ". So why are we obsessed with the fact that English translation "Christian" was not used while we have "Al-Nasara" which means the same thing? Or should Christians be called "Al-Nasara" in Russia, China, France, etc. even though it's not a word in the languages spoken in these countries? This is not an argument but a sincere quest for knowledge seeing as I'm not very religious myself. Like I said, I've heard people discuss this before and struggling to make sense of it. Thanks. |
Except in cases like the military, a group of people adopting a certain color as their identity has never and should never stop anyone from using the color in question. If, as a man, you're afraid of using the rainbow color cause someone might call you gay, then you're not even confident about your sexuality. Those saying they ruined the rainbow concept just hate gay people and see everything they do as wrong. People are proudly homophobic, so there's no need to make it look as if rainbow has suddenly become so important to them and is, therefore, the bone of contention. Such people would gladly put on clothes that have the illuminati eye of providence or the horned goat symbol without blinking an eye, but believe that gay people have made the rainbow symbol impossible to use. The truth is, regardless of the color or colors they adopt, they'd still be homophobic people out there who'd claim they've spoiled the color for them. Anything to call the dog a bad name. #Tolerance #LiveAndLetLive #SayNoToDiscrimination #Peace #Love #Unity #Equality #Inclusiveness #Pride |
For conversation sake, let's flow with the notion that this is true even though it's a one sided story. A side chic threatening the wife? Isn't that shamelessness taken to a new height? Has the society gotten so bad that the thief now takes the front door? And people still follow and admire her as thier idol? It's really touching to see the Cubana guy fight for his sister, but like he said himself, she's only a victim of the social mores he delights in. He's only crying out now cause his own sister has been affected. As you make your bird, so you must lie on it. The African society makes light of infidelity on the man's side and even encourages/pushes for it to be added to the endless list of male privileges as if they don't have female loved ones at home. Sadly, the hen has come home to roost for this one. I've always maintained that the society is whatever you make of it. Actions will always have consequences. Treating men's infidelity with kid gloves while criticizing only the girls that sleep with married men is self destructive. By shying away from holding your fellow men accountable for their perverse lifestyle, you're only raising a monster that will eventually spare no one. The institution of marriage cannot be preserved by the argument "men will always be men, it's up to the woman to accept or turn down their advances". That's just a weak attempt at normalizing promiscuity. Man or woman, adultery is ugly. I really hope this ends well for the poor wife. |
I know someone like you. I'll advise you to do what she did; preserve your egg and when you're ready, fertilize it. You obviously would like loved to get married and have kids the traditional way, but we can't always have what we want. Please, do not let anyone's opinion deny you your happiness in life. |
Hyland:In summary, what he or she is saying is that a woman should stick with a man regardless of whether he cheats or treats her badly (because men are not to be judged), otherwise, she'd end up in a scandal. And this is a conclusion he got cause Tiwa's sex tape got leaked? I guess this also implies girls who sleep with married men should be encouraged or the poster's argument would be self destructive. Sir, I know you meant no harm, but I almost feel slighted being tagged to such level of emptiness. I mean, what exactly do you want me to counter? Some non existent logic? To be honest with you, I saw the post long before you tagged me but totally ignored it cause I believe the poster was just trolling. To engage people, you'd have to see some logic in what they're saying, one that you'd be inclined to counter cause it's capable of swaying public opinion. I just didn't see any in the post you quoted, so I passed. I'm not drumming any support for Tiwa not because she had sex (that would be ridiculous cause I never imagined she was a nun) but primarily cause I'm not a fan of recording one's intimate moments. Having said that, I sincerely hope she pulls through. |
A business man saw an opportunity and went for it. |
Roma10:You realize you saw the movie 6 years after many people had already seen it? |
Coolabbie:I totally agree with your submission. A white friend of mine said to me, "this is not to undermine whatever challenges black people are facing, but I don't really see this racism. I have some black people as colleagues and many of my friends are blacks". For such a white guy in North America whose parents immigrated from France, it's not like racism wasn't glaring enough, but in his view, the present status was normal cause that's the norm he was born into. It took a long conversation to educate him. And that was possible cause we were both willing to have that conversation with an open mind. In my opinion, that open mindedness is what is missing here. On a lighter note, your French is not bad for someone learning with an app. Trust me, some people have lived in Montréal for many years and still can't speak the language. Merci ! |
fredoooooo:I don't really see how the news relates with gender equality. Maybe you meant to call out misandrists. |
Coolabbie:I read this post along with a friend, and he called me "social media influencer!" Haha... ![]() Actually, it's a heart warming feedback cause sometimes, it feels like no one really wants to understand that we can't achieve the society we dream of if we keep thinking certain people don't deserve the privileges we enjoy. Oh... and thanks for attempting to write me in French. I'm not even going to tell you how you destroyed the language. ![]() Thanks, really. |
May the God that has decided you must be a teacher reveal to you what to teach. |
Starzo:You too. |
Starzo:I've said over and over again that both parties are wrong and should not held accountable instead focusing on one person. I don't know the condemnation you're still expecting. One sided criticism is wrong. It does not help anyone cause the party left off the hook will simply keep doing whatever the offense was. |
naturefellow:True or not, we both know there's no basis for this conclusion. Like I said, while you might be thinking about it as two sets of people, that's not likely the case. People watch BBN for fun. If GUS is fun, the same people would gladly watch it. Even if BBN is truly dirtier than the music videos Nigerians enjoy, there's no apparent connection between immorality and IQ. I don't watch BBN but I don't necessarily feel superior to those that do. Whatever rocks your boat, man. |
Starzo:I wasn't interested who's sleeping with who. When it happens, we should hold the two parties accountable. People are already focusing on one gender. I only intended in letting people know the outcome of always calling out that one gender. That's not calling out men. That's calling out the society cause even some women are conditioned to think that way. So if you're getting defensive, then it's probably cause you know what I'm saying is true and you feel personally attacked as a man. Well, I am a man too and I will always say what I know is fair/right regardless of the situation. The society is gender bias. Everyone knows this. It's pointless attacking those that dare to point it out. |
yungrylex00:It's fine. You're welcome. |
yungrylex00:This doesn't look like a Python in any way. Anyway, I love fishing! The past tense of "set" is "set", bro. |
babyfaceafrica:It's bad; very bad. You know what else is bad? One sided criticism. Both genders should be held accountable. It became a gender issue when people criticise only one gender whether that's the married one or the single one in the case. Last week, it was a case of a married man sleeping with and impregnating a nairalander, and I spent the whole day telling people the married man should also be as accountable as the lady they were bashing given that he broke his marriage vows. And the response was "it's natural for men". Today, it's about a married lady and suddenly, they remember marriage sanctity. It's obvious the idea is just to criticise one gender and let the other off the hook. That's not good for the society. |
Peace081:Not necessary. I mean, why must one pit people or things against each other. It's not a match. Fans mustn't have to chose. The same people that watch BBN can still enjoy GUS. |
Starzo:I never excused the lady. I said attacking one gender when two people sleep together is pointless. How you came to your conclusion is a mystery. Even when a married man sleeps with a lady, people still call the lady all sorts of names for sleeping with a married man. So let's not pretend as if it's the sanctity of marriage that drives the criticism when we both know it's the gender. |
FanOfMyself:That's awesome. Javascript is not my stronghold but I use Typescript for POS and React for UI when I have to. Working for a company in the US while you're in Nigeria gives you the economic advantage. Actually, that makes you much better than most of us here who earn and spend in dollars. Best of luck! Regarding your question, I don't subscribe to labels cause definitions are subjective and they come with baggage. But I am an apologetic advocate of fairness/equality in all its kinds, and I really don't see why everyone shouldn't be. |
general111:You realize that this also implies the men are carriers too, right? |
