Workch:Neither the US nor China should speak for Taiwan. They should respect the wish of Taiwanese. China can try to convince Taiwan to be a part of the country but doing that forcefully is not just intimidation but modern day slavery. |
JohnnyPalmer:And gaining admission into Oxford University is not worth announcing on one's social media account? |
Ppogbae:This is 2021, they should have the right to decide if they want to be part of China or not. That's only fair. It's not by language or physique. |

chris4gold:It could be a paid service. |
OP seems to have just targeted those he doesn't like or those he feels he's better than. What he has failed to realize is that there are millions of people using the social media but these people he mentioned are the few ones that have succeeded in making something out of it, that's hard work. Besides, we all have something we depend on to survive directly or indirectly. If you remove computers, I wouldn't be a programmer anymore. If you remove cars, mechanics wouldn't have anything to repair. So why isolate those who depend on social media and make it look as if they are less talented? If they could make it via social media, what makes you think they'd not be able to adapt in the absence of it? I was even thinking he'd mention the fact that the rate of unemployment will generally go up, but he targeted individuals instead. And that number 11 suggests that Nairaland is not a social media platform. Lol. |
Sad. Reminds me of LUPIN. |
chatinent:Many other countries have moved on. Nigeria, on the other hand, is afraid of making amendments even when it's obvious the present constitution has a lot of issues. I believe this is primarily because of the fact that the country sacrifices logic on the alter of emotions and since emotions are individualistic, there are multiple interests to consider. |
As bad as this is, we should try to report accurately. They also did this to other Africans and not just Nigerians. While this was mentioned en passant in the body of the text, it's as if the title was delibrately written to ignite some kind of emotions in the readers. Meanwhile, what reason did the government give? Do the immigrants have all the required paperworks? I know xenophobia is a thing, but governments hardly get directly involved in it. I hope these guys get the help they need. Things are hard enough already. |
Fahdiga:Hope you realise that Africa does not start and end in Nigeria. mrmachine:Yes, spousal or marital rape is not known to Nigerian Criminal Justice System probably cause the country is still using what was drafted in the 1960's. But it is in many other countries including some African countries. I wonder the kind of family a man who forcefully has sex with his wife would be expecting to have though. |
Your boss is paranoid (maybe cause of the things he's heard or experienced before). He does not trust you. And he is not a tech savvy. Now, that's not a good combination at all. I'm also led to believe you guys never had a good relationship even prior to this issue. You both seem so distant from each other. Otherwise, this would have been a case of you going into his office to resolve the issue preferably on his PC while showing him every step. However, since that's not happening, I suggest you ask him to either get a techy person that he trusts to help him or simply block the card. Heck, it only takes a call to the bank to block a card and send him another one in matter of days. You have not done anything that warrants an undertaken especially when there are other alternatives. |
jchioma:I don't get it, why are these kinda comments always seen when something like this is shared? Is it that people in Africa don't like knowledge? They didn't say you should panic. They merely shared what they learned. At least, we can now update our Geography lesson notes. That's how our know of the universe and its behavior grows, right? |
OP, if you're fighting with someone to the point that you guys aren't talking, it's only logical that the person wouldn't want to make love to you. I mean, how exactly do you expect the person to just open her legs for you, look the other way while you have fun? She is not a prostitute, making love to her involves body contact and also emotions, and I don't see how someone who's pissed at you can possibly enjoy it. I think it's only logical to discuss the issue before doing it if it's that serious. I know we normally use the expression "she's denying me sex" but that doesn't apply here. If you guys are in good terms and she wouldn't let you touch her, then she's denying you sex. But if you're fighting, you're simply fighting. That means you're not talking or doing other things you used to do together. Don't isolate sex and make a deal of it as if she was meant to keep doing that even when you guys aren't talking. If you're fighting with your spouse and she's not talking to you but the thing that matters to you is that she's not opening her legs, then there's a bigger issue in the marriage. I know you're likely to be the breadwinner of the family but you're not commercializing affection. I am just saying you should address the main issue first and everything will follow. Just an opinion. Best of luck! |
Fahdiga:Oh... but there is. |
FarmTech:Well, she appears well dressed to me. But I get it, what's modest to one might be immodest to another. To each, their own. I just don't think I'd critize anyone for putting on what makes them confident on the grounds that it may make another person misbehave especially if it's not all that revealing. People still get sexually attracted to women covered like the Muslims do. Besides, like I said, I've never seen anyone call out a man for putting on body hugs. |
Lol.... I don't know about Brazil and it's ratings but those are fine pics I'm seeing. However, I'm also sure each country has some of those kinda pics including Nigeria. Another angle entirely: I'm just wondering why we blame the western world for virtually everything. Yes, they present their country like the best but isn't that expected? It is not really their duty to promote your country. Now we're blaming them for Brazil's public image. They don't owe Brazil any PR job. Heck, they don't even do it for each other. Each country promote herself. Hollywood and CNN have made the US seem like heaven. Today, Canada has succeeded in making everyone believe it's best place after heaven. UAE publicized herself to the point that everyone wants to be in Dubai. These guys will only remember other countries if there's anything newsworthy happening over there. For example, the last time Brazil made the headlines here, it was because of the covid outbreak. Before then, it was something about politics. And prior to then, it was thier beautiful festival. So I don't know if we expect the western media to take it upon themselves to go and start looking for good places in Brazil to snap and share with the world. No, there will only do it for themselves and that is normal (except it's a paid publicity). Only the Brazilian media can do it for Brazil. |
JESHAL:Oh.. that part wasn't you. You jumped halfway into my conversation with someone else. My apologies. I hope the other guy I was chatting with had the time to read through our chat. Regardless, my stance on the subject remains the same. |
JESHAL:Please, stop grasping at straws, sir. Nobody ever demonized anybody. I called on us men to hold each account the way we police the ladies on this platform. I don't know why that spooked you in the first place to call me a bitter woman. But I'm not worried, I've been called worse. I take each conversation as an opportunity to shed light on issues that are rather under-discussed. |
JESHAL:Dude, it was very ridiculous of to use the statics of the US to argue about the situation of things in Nigeria. I live in North America, we can have that discussion if you want. But hinging your argument on the statistics of the FBI about a country in which you live is a desperate attempt to undermine reality. I know Nigeria. I follow up on abuse cases cause they specifically interest me. The number of rape cases in Nigeria has been on the rise in recent times. Lagos state reported about 40% increase last year from 2013. UNICEF states that 1/4 Nigerian women have been abused at some point. There are numerous other reports on the subjects with respect to Nigeria. You jumped all of them cause, according to you, they are false. The only one that appeals to you is the one that has nothing to do with Nigeria? Lol... How convenient. Sadly, women who accuse men of rape have faced a lot of backlash on this platform and many other public forums. Oh... why is she reporting now that he's rich. Why did she go to his house in the first place? Are you sure this one is less than 18? Why was she dressed that way in that area? Why did she accept his gift? Etc. These are some of the comments you see by people here who are supposed to be protecting thier daughters and sisters. And when someone speaks up and say we should hold each other accountable the way we police the female gender, you took it upon yourself to attack the person? Honestly, this your youthful energy would have been more useful is had been used it to campaign against rape. The fact that you are even working so hard to water down the seriousness of rape in Nigeria speaks volume. If you read my first comment you quoted, I specifically mentioned the things people type here against the female gender. I cannot speak for Nigerian men but I believe nairaland is a good sample to start with. If you're not OK with the fact that I am calling on Nairaland men to use the same energy we use to trashtalk women to condemn this ugly act, I'm sorry but that's your issue to worry about. I'll keep calling on people to join me in this campaign cause I have sisters at home. |
JESHAL:Wow... FBI monitors the rape cases in Nigeria too? It takes another level of heartlessness to ignore the glaring reality in Nigeria using the statistics from the United States of America as a backup. It's amazing how much one is willing to ignore when he is not on the receiving end. I never for once stereotyped the entire male gender as rapists. Show me where I did that or stop grasping at straws. I am a man, believe it or not. I said there's no campaign against rape like there is against the female gender on this forum. That has always been my point. You can twist that as much as you want but the forum is here for all to see. I can spool out threads created by men just to bash women. I'd be surprised if you can get a couple of threads addressing the rape issue. And yet we read about this everyday. And when someone speaks out, you quickly mention FBI statistics in the United States of America. So what does the statistics say about Nigerian girls being useless? How many of those people that go around saying "fear than gender", "Nigerian girls are useless", etc. have you ever bothered to call out with statistics? But here you are dragging yourself cause one person call on the males here to be more vocal against rape. Like I said, the rape culture is bad. From your write-up, I'm certain you don't have a clue what expression means. Nonetheless, it is bad and should get as much attention as possible. |
Social networks work with an algorithm. Your activities on there determine what you see. |
chatinent:I agree with this. I don't think there's a rule here. Couples should do what makes them happy. If eating together is a special thing for them, they can wait for each other when possible. And when they can't, it shouldn't be a problem. All these rules make marriage rigid and prone to issues. I don't even know why OP specifically mentioned "wife". Oh... maybe because it's a general belief in Africa that the wife must always be home before the man. Lol |
CondemnBattery:She made her choice, so why do you want to deny the man's wife the chance of making her own choice? You're protecting the family, when the man was also busy enjoying, did he think of family? Why do you think a man should do DNA test knowing it could destroy the family? See, you're shying away from real logical argument. It's about protecting the man's interest for you. She made her choice. The man also made his choice. Both of them will have to leave with the consequences. Heaping it all on one party alone is illogical. There's no reasonable argument to support that. If you believe a husband has the right to know about the paternity of his kids via DNA, then you must accept that this man's wife has the right to know if her man has kids elsewhere. Whatever she does afterwards is her choice. |
JESHAL:Rape culture is a myth? That's where I stopped reading. If you could type that, there's no point wasting my time here. Enjoy your day. |
CondemnBattery:A man will always ask a lady out regardless of the his martial status cause it's natural, right? You people are funny on that continent. So the whole marital confinement in Africa is simply for women, yeah? And then you'd turn around to ask why there's moral decadence in the country. Just read the kind of logic you're pulling just to undermine immorality on the man's side. You're just treating men as brainless dogs. Did it even occur to you that the single lady was not under any vow to commit to anyone while the man was the one under a marriage vow? What's the point in trying to give men the laissez-faire to do just about anything only to turn around and blame only the women for the consequences of those actions? You think that will help the society in any way? Well, even getting pregnant is also a natural thing and the lady is now pregnant. The man's wife deserves to know the truth. Whether she wants to go or stay should be her decision to take. The man has a brain in his skull. He is not an object. If he decides to take in the side chic, that's his decision and he should be responsible for that. So just stop typing as if there are only two people in the picture. The man is in the middle and has the bulk of the responsibility. He is the one that married the first lady. He is the one that approached and impregnated the second lady. But somehow you want to remove him from the picture when it has gone sour. You can go ahead and support promiscuity, don't just make it look as if you're protecting the wife. |
koyyes:Hhmm... An interesting take. |
baralatie:You missed the message. I'm not referring to the DNA test of her pregnancy. I'm saying, just like we advocate for men to do the DNA test to know the truth regardless of how it would affect the family, women also reserve the right to know if thier husbands have kids elsewhere. You can't suddenly be thinking about family when it's the man being promiscuous. |
baralatie:The same purpose a DNA test achieves: the truth. |
CSTRR:I don't know what Boma is. But I believe his wife has every right to know the truth. |
CondemnBattery:Are you really protecting the family or just the man? Do you think of family when you advocate for DNA test? You want the man to go back to his beautiful family so that the girl will carry the lifetime burden? The married man that slept with and impregnated another lady needs to be exposed. His wife has every right to know the truth. I find it surprising that you guys are clamoring for DNA tests just so that men can know the truth about thier wives' faithfulness or otherwise but want to hide the man's infidelity from his wife. What kind of judgment is that? Please, it's only fair that a woman knows if her husband has a child out of wedlock just like a man deserves to know if his wife did same. Let's drop the gender bias. |
En passant, when a married man sleeps with another lady, the lady is cursed to death for attempting to break another person's home. When a married lady sleeps with another man, the lady is cursed to death for attempting to bring in a "bastard". Whichever way, the man gets no attention. Now, to the topic; Madam, you know you shouldn't be sleeping with a married man, you still went ahead to do it. Now, you both are hooked and you're running to NL for help. I wonder the kind of help you need. You know the right thing to do for yourself and the baby. Do it. |
Raph82:There are already issuing visa to people with skills in demand (including truck drivers). Of course, you don't expect them to open thier borders with a signboard "truck drivers, come in". Lol. They still need to sieve out the fake ones and potential trouble makers. The issue is that some Africans don't know the importance of certification or paper works in general. Some truck drivers with years of experience don't have anything to show as a proof of work history. Some didn't go through any recognized training school and therefore have no certificate. Some don't belong to the association. Some don't have any properly dated employment letter. Some don't have pay stubs. Some were even paid in cash. Some can't even speak basic English. These things constitute a clog in the wheel of thier progress cause such paper works are required to prepare a "strong application". I wish them well. |
