theoldpretender: People like Ibori, Nnamani, etc would disagree with you.
See Abia state. Obvious that the sitting governor has failed, Alex Otti was there as a viable alternative...and yet people voted for PDP again.(thanks to kerosene endorsement).
Then you should read Reuben Abati's expereince working for the campaign of a South West governorship candidate...and how people were 'asking for money'
There are governors like Gandollars all over the country. Gandollars mistake was that he got caught. How do I know you are not a smuggler or a political thug? I don't know and it will be stupid of me to assume you are. No person ever get convicted without being caught. Ibori was already out of the government house when he was "caught" and jailed in the UK. I repeat again, that no southern governor can remain popular if they get caught like Ganduje. All politician's spend money on elections and Abati is quite a fool to feign surprise when he also received millions as campaign money during the 2015 elections. But people in the south will likely vote for a politician who spends money and might be a thief than a Gandollar who spends money but is certainly a thief. Just because there are free criminals does not give the arrested ones immunity from consequences. |

We only got it wrong in 1999 and after that, we have been aligned with whoever becomes the president .
2023 let each southern region supports whoever they like. SW is rooting for presidency, only electorates could stop the dream.

olujastro: It should be easy to understand voting patterns across the country but it seems intelligence is a rare commodity, especially on Nairaland.
Firstly, no northerner alive can defeat Buhari in the north. That has always been a known fact (one not obvious to PDP because it's full of dumb people).
Secondly, majority of Nigerians are politically informed so they vote for the candidates, and not the party (except the politically blind people who prefer to reelect a failed PDP governor because APC is a "satanic" party to them).
In summary, the people of Sokoto, Kano, Bauchi, etc. chose Integrity over Kleptocracy in the presidential election; and voted differently according to the credibility and performance of their various state governors. Shikena Keep telling yourself lies to feel good. The people chose integrity, yet the elections ended inconclusively because half the population in those states don't want "integrity". This election has shown that the north doesn't care about integrity. Ganduje would have been massacred in the election if he was from any state in the South. |

Gmajor: Institutional racism used to exist in America, but that was in the past. When did this happen? How long will you keep dwelling in the past. As long as there are elements of injustice in the society, there is no such thing as "past". A lot of Black people have trained themselves to See racism everywhere and in everything. That is not really a bad thing. Trump is a racist! Trump is a racist, but yet, there has been a very drastic increase in job creation among black communities. Stop the hate Bro. This isn't about Trump. I understand your perspective, some Africans will willingly become a slave in exchange for a Murika visa. What they don't realise is that their decision and loyalty was informed by poverty. |

His foolishness cost Ondo state dangote's Refinery because he had teamed up with Jonathan rather than Tinubu but today, he's irrelevant in PDP. With all his good works and infrastructure in Ondo state, if he had capped it with dangote's Refinery, his name would have been set on pedal stone. What a shame. Dangote moved his refinery from Ondo because of the threat of militancy and local tax by traditional ruler and thugs. It has nothing to do with party. |

Politics › Re: Buhari Didn’t Need NJC To Appoint Me – Acting CJN by Xisnin(m): 11:30pm On Mar 18, 2019 |
MetaPhysical: When crime is commited against the country, the President has right to intervene as necessary and protect law and values.
The President has right to order arrest if he believes not doing so is dangerous for security and value system. Any constitutional provision to back up your point? What the president believes is immaterial. The CJN is not some terrorist threatening to nuke Nigeria and the constitution does not allow Buhari or the CCT chairman to unilaterally remove him. Even in the wake of 9/11 attacks in the US, the patriot act had to be enacted to give the executive the power to take extra-constitutional actions against perceive enemies. Im not sure you guys truly appreciate the power in a President's hand. You have been coded by foreign media to view your president from an angle of human rights. If your president tells you he will shut down internet gateway into the country, a prerogative granted to him by constitution, you call it human rights violation.
You all have no clue. Study your constitution from cover to cover and understand the powers spelt out in it. Imagine also the powers that are not spelt out but which the president can utilize simply because it is not a forbidden act by the constitution.
I should start a political class on this forum and coach the hidden powers of statutes. You have been conditioned to think of presidents as emperors who can do whatever they want. The function of the legislatures and judiciaries is to checkmate executive powers. Did you miss this aspect of the political class? If the country laws allow Buhari to do whatever he wants, then there is no point paying senators and judges for doing nothing. You talk about foreign media as if our system of government was a result of designs and debates by Nigerians. Every aspect of our current government is copied from the "foreigners" you probably think are clueless. If Buhari wants dictatorial powers, let him go to the Senate and ask for it. It doesn't matter if the constitution doesn't forbid an action, the judiciary can rule against such action or the lawmakers legislate against it. I notice that you are conflating constitutional violations with human rights when they are not the same. Of course, a constitutional violation can be a human right issue but not all human right issue is a constitutional violation. You probably think that Buhari's violation of the constitution is a sign that he has unlimited power. |
