Were you seriously expecting an answer to the question? I thought it was a joke.

Btw, right from the onset it was stated the doctor was female, but Nigerians still have the mindset that expects doctors to be men.

Ghana cholera outbreak at 'staggering' level
http://news.yahoo.com/ghana-cholera-outbreak-staggering-level-110910744.html

Accra (AFP) - A cholera outbreak in Ghana's capital has reached "staggering" levels, an official said Friday, blaming poor sanitation and overcrowded health facilities for the rapid spread of the disease.
Cholera has killed more than 40 people in Accra since June and infected 3,100 others, according to the Ghana Health Service.

Once a model for Africa, Ghana's economy loses its
shine | Reuters
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN0EO0KD20140613?irpc=932

Excerpts...
It [Ghana] is now, however, paying a steep price for not coming through with a new tranche of fiscal reforms. Political consensus is stymied, the public is dismayed by rising costs and the dream of new wealth is on hold.
"The situation is becoming quite critical. There has been a chronic underestimation of the seriousness of the problem by the authorities," said Angus Downie, head of economic research at Ecobank.
In the meantime, ordinary people are feeling the
pinch, particularly with inflation running at 14.8
percent.
Carmen Altenkirch, director of Africa ratings at Fitch, said money printing to fund the deficit would only raise pressure on inflation and a currency that has fallen 28 percent this year.

quesra: So lets assume you are a doctor and another doctor flies in from guinea and is sick, you would have no suspitions right?
When should someone seek medical care?
If a person has been in an area known to have
Ebola virus disease or in contact with a person
known or suspected to have Ebola and they begin
to have symptoms, they should seek medical care
immediately.
www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/faq-ebola/en/

The symptoms alone are not enough to indicate Ebola, a lot of tropical diseases have similar symptoms. There has to be reason to believe the person has been in contact with an Ebola patient.

The doctor was suspicious that was why they detained Sawyer and raised an alert despite the fact that he denied coming in contact with any Ebola cases and in spite of the pressure being put on them to discharge him.

If there was a failure it was with Immigration and the Ministry of Health who did not institute screenings at all our borders. But I don't think before Sawyer came to Nigeria any country was doing that. There was also no travel restrictions on the affected countries because the WHO had recommended against that.
SportsRe: Nigeria Withdraws Team From Youth Olympics Over Ebola Discrimination by XKZ(m): 11:06pm On Aug 14, 2014
quesra: the more i reason it the more disappointed i am at the "DOCTOR" that treated Sawyerr, was he really that ill-informed of a disease that has been raging on for months?kai!
It was not raging in Nigeria, besides Sawyer refused to give his true medical history. Until lab results came back there was no way to be sure that Sawyer had ebola. Ebola symptoms are similar to a lot of other diseases.

quesra: GEJ is about to set up a committee to investigate the number of people they will keep quarantining until whenever cos the govt is obviously completely at a loss on any solution
The WHO recommends isolation and supportive treatment for ebola patients. There is no known cure.
You can make an argument for the trial drugs, but in a few months time if dangerous side effects show up who would want to bear the blame?

bushdoc9919: Both of you are correct....my initial post was in anger.

Sometimes,in preventive health....overcautious behaviour is good.
In preventive health fear can be dangerous.
They only need to take reasonable precautions but from the gist they've actually gone over board.

If not for the high mortality rate a disease outbreak that has been raging for over 8 months (since December 2013) but has affected less than 2,500 people would hardly warrant a mention.

If a person has been in an area known to have Ebola virus disease or in contact with a person known or suspected to have Ebola and they begin to have symptoms, they should seek medical care immediately.
Any cases of persons who are suspected to have the disease should be reported to the nearest health unit without delay.

To help control further spread of the virus, people that are suspected or confirmed to have the disease should be isolated from other patients and treated by health workers using strict infection control precautions.

I just remembered that movie they used to show back then about apartheid-era South Africa, particularly the scene on the Sharpeville Massacre. The part where a child is crying beside the parent who had just been gunned down was particularly haunting.

They show it a lot back then. I wonder if most young people nowadays even know about apartheid.

PoliticsRe: Indian Doctors Forced To Treat Ebola Victims By FG by XKZ(m): 5:24pm On Aug 12, 2014
Jakumo: Wow if this report is true, kidnapping foreign doctors and forcing them into contact with suspected Ebola victims, WITHOUT adequate protective garments and equipment, is indeed a new low for Nigeria.
Did you read the entire report?

Firstly It's the Nigerian branch of an Indian hospital. Also the person defending the actions of the hospital is an Indian from the head office. (This shows It's an Indian run hospital)

Secondly, no Ebola cases (confirmed or suspected) have be reported in Abuja. So the Indian doctors (who are based in Abuja) have not been forced to treat any Ebola patient they are just making a pre-emptive move.

Thirdly, the article says a relative of the doctors claims some of the patients from Lagos are being treated in Abuja. We all know this to be untrue, all suspected and confirmed cases are quarantined in Lagos.

The bottom line is that this has nothing to do with Nigerians, it is a trade dispute between Indian doctors and their Indian employers.
