Kpolli, it just ain't easy my brother. I will give anything to be on status oo, I remember when I first arrived and was stranded chaiii, i didnt have anyone in texas and I wan cry Chaii but now I am adapting. Once your school don't reinstate you or sevis say NO , omo it's deportation list. Its hard to survive but I dey look up to baba God every morning, na hin bring me come America o, God has been good o. How's life ? You in louisana right ?
kpolli:
To whom it may concern,

I am not going to go back pages to read the Genesis to Revelation of this story but I will just give my small advise and experience.... I will not advise you to go out of status because your school reports such to SEVIS and that means you're to leave the country for that period... If you don't, that goes into your record.... To fall back into status, SEVIS has to give you the go ahead and from a friend who was out of status for less than a month.... That period is scary as hell because any small issue, you can be deported...

About finding a job after school, from my experience... I got one, lots of friends got... So there is hope as long as there is God... So don't say now your in the USA, you forget God.... Hold on to Him tight and put your fate in God not with one girl you don't know.... Especially NY babes, I have heard their gist and they can be frustrating when they know it's about the paper....

I always say if you can't afford this journey, do not embark on it.... But it's your cross to bear... Sha if you dey marry, make I know... I have not still attended a wedding in this country, still looking for my first...

Francis, i dont really have strenght to type much, you twisting this whole thing, regardless of whatever don't even give running out of status as an option, you have never been there. Walahi, go test people that are out of status Bp, it's gonna be freaking high, this people live in fear until the day they get their papers. You said international student are not sure of getting companies to file for them, why are you still in school , you shouldNt be wasting your money na. USA gave you visa with the believe that you will go back to your home country, that uncle is unfair I will still say it, until you answer the question why this uncle is sending a young guy to the cold of NY to hustle. nY of all places, people have been their for 15 years, no papers. This uncle probably came with a Visiting visa and doesn't know what it takes to run out of a student status. I prefer to suffer in school than roam about the street.

One shrt story, my roomie who graduated in december came for masters and life was so hard on her thinking she will get GA and all sort from UH, well she was unlucky. After one semester, her aunt( who never asked of how she came to USA offer her to come to dallas) she ran out of status amd went Dallas, things weren't rosy, this aunt even said she must pay some of the bills and always give her attitude. Getting a man to file for her prove abortive, she couldn't sleep again, she has lost her status and no papers. She had to look for way to reinstatement, it's a shitty process and if doesn't get through , mehn it's big shit. just pass a questionnaire to people that are out of status, regardless of how much they make from whatever jobs they do, they are not happy with their situation, I have met few. They want to be back in school. Trust me. This arrangie or real marriage thing is a wahala proces on it's own. A lot of people are strucked just the 2 years green card just because they found out their Mariage was not genuine. Finally , just because it works for jack doesn't mean it will work for bull.
bigfrancis21:
Zeezah, don't get me wrong. I was not supporting his uncle neither was I advising him to fall out of status. I detailed in entirety life in America and what it entails. A lot of people here were already quick to judge his uncle as 'bad belle' and wanting his downfall, many of whom don't know the least about life in America.

First of all, are you even aware that there are international students who came here to study and after graduation couldn't get a company to hire them? These students finally settled for finding someone they like after 'roaming the same streets for months' and getting married to someone - the very same permanent residency process his uncle told him about? Are you trying to tell me that every international student who graduates from school in the US gets a job on graduation? I don't mean to be pessimistic but let us be realistic here. Company filing is a competitive process and not everyboy who graduates gets a company to file for them. In fact, most international students get their papers through marriage.

A classmate of mine graduated this last fall semester with no job, after intensely job hunting and having a couple of interviews and calls. Guess what? He's currently looking to date someone so he can legalize his stay in the US. Don't make it sound like getting married to someone you like is a bad idea when more than 60% of the time, international students take that route. It's all left to you as an international student. You either choose to go to school now and fight for your papers later or get your papers now and go to school later. The only difference being that one route is easier for some people than the other.

@exxy and profojah: This is the issue with Nigerians back home who think that the US is all bed and roses. Do you know how his uncle is managing to survive? Do you know how many jobs he works just to be able to come up with his rent + feeding + bills + loan paybacks every month? Do you know that millions of Americans live on paycheck to paycheck with very little to even save in the bank? You should not be quick to judge the uncle as 'wicked and an enemy of progress' when you have not the slightest idea of how he is managing to survive in the US. Until you walk a mile in his uncle's shoes, save your judgment for another day.
Bigfrancis, I can't quote all your posts so I won't take all the space, so all what you are saying is that it's not a crime for his uncle to advise him to go to new York alone and struggle, this uncle doesn't even live in NY. I am not judging the uncle, that's all he can offer. He tried. People advise you to run outof status but do not help you with any kind of help to survival.

Francis, frankly speaking,I didn't expect this kind of response from you, supporting someone to run out of status, a lot of people ran out of status and till date they haven't even found a way out. The have been working under the table. What works for A might not work for B. The guy still has good means to pay his tuition at least its cheap. It's better to suffer through school and have a certificate than roam about the street looking for who to marry. The marriage of a thing is even a risk and it takes a lot. We all ain't rich but we are struggling, you personally, did you run out of status when you broke? Dont tell me you dont have bad times when you were broke but you Never ran out of staus, Don't give advise that you didn't pass through. I have met people that are out of status, regardless of whatever, they do not have peace of mind. All they think about is how to get reinstated or how to be a residence. Do you have them as friends ? Try ask them. They don't sleep peacefully.

Come to think of it, he runs out of status and working under the table for 4 years without getting anyone to marry and he has somekinda issues with the law( God forbid) , he is gonna be sent back home. No certificate but no matter how hard it is to get a company to file for you after 4 years, at least you have a certificate to show for it. This guy came to study, no everyone want to roam about the street looking for papers. Your advise should go to people that only came to USA to struggle regardless of whatever visa. Even when things ain't going fine for some people in this thread, let's give them wonderful advise to keep moving, strong spirit and have endurance. We shouldn't be advising anyone to take the option of running out of status when we ourselves are still in school. it ain't rosy for me as well

House i need advice ooo, my uncle in the state called me yesterday and told me to leave school(fall out of status) so that i can go work in newyork. before now, this same uncle didn't support my coming to the state, financially and otherwise. but now he wants me to leave school to a state where his not even in. He was saying who is going to pay my tuition, who will do this, who will do that, i said sir, i have gotting 2 jobs on campus, my department has schorship, and more over i have paid half of my tuition(1500) my tuition is about $3k, i dont stay on campus, and my feeding is garanted, accomdation is ok, feeding is ok, but my uncle said i should forget that one, and see to what his telling me. House i need ur advice oo, my uncle wan kill me.

Zeezahbee, imperiouxx, bigfrancis21, walspring, MsNas and others make una look into the matter oo
Who's that uncle of yours? He needs to be wiped. Thats why I don't involve my extended family in my life. This same uncle could not help you come to the states, am sure he couldn't even help pay app fee or sevis fee. Just shut that uncle down. Do you know how hard it is to run out of status, mehn it's a trauma. It means you are undocumented immigrant. Don't even involve him in your life. New York is even the last place I will advice anyone to go and hustle, some people sleep on the basement in NY. It's all man for himself. If you have any problem in NY,this same uncle won't show up.

My advice struggle through school, try get good grades, on campus job, after one 2 semester you can't foot the bills, apply for economic hardship( you will get a work authorization that you can use to work off campus but only if youncan convince uscis that you truly need it, I know few people using that) . All in all, be careful of family. Good luck

Hello all! I noticed that people don't really talk much about getting apartment on Craiglist. I was going through the site some days ago and saw some cheap apartments that can be shared between two/ three people thereby saving a lot of money.

Pleases is there any disadvantage of going through this route instead of the usuall intown suites et al.
Haaa craiglist ke, you are at the risk of losing your money because most of the list posted there are not real and sharing a room with a serial killer. Who goes to craiglist this days . Be careful. No one in America will ever advise you to get an apartment on craiglist. The only problem you have getting apartment is because you are not a residence. You don't have a ssn and credit history, therefore they are scared to lease an apartment to you, the only option is when they take 3 times the money. Life doesn't have a duplicate, Craiglist is dangerous.

There's nothing we won't hear in this world. Firstly, the guy is probably broke, only a broke guy will write that shit. Secondly, he has other options, it means the girl is not the only he's spending on, once you start writing out expenses, it means you are trying to compare or you have decided how much you wish to spend.

OP back to your question, I will run away from such guy because when we get married, he will probably be following me to market or write a list of what we need with prices.

Some people accused Nigerians staying abroad of painting a bad image of Nigeria to foreigners? I think the opposite is the case. I defend Nigeria almost on a daily basis here, if you check the foreign media as what they paint Nigeria as, you will be sad. They paint a poverty ravaged nation, plagued with diseases and terrorism. Are the Nigerians abroad the cause of this? Anytime I got to the hospital for regular check up, the first question is " have you left the US within the last month" well you know why they ask....ebola!....Are Nigerians abroad the cause of this also? Not all Nigerians or Africans are enjoying life abroad, but many are very comfortable here but the sudden hatred is what I still try to envisage.
Same thing happened last week at cook county hospital in Chicago, I was feeling feverish and as my first time in that hospital, during registration , the lady in charge said whats my country of birth and I said Nigeria, she said have you been out of USA in 21days and I said no. Even after I met the doctor, still same question. I finally asked the last doctor I met and he said it was because of Ebola lipsrsealed. Mtcheeew.i had to lecture him
