drzik: got to embassy at 6am for a 6:30am appointment. Had the necessary security checks with Biometrics and then my number came up.
v.o: Why do you want to go to America (sounded like Amefrica )
me: I'm going for my master Public health at the University of Minnesota
v.o. why Minnesota?
me. apart from the school being one of the top public research institutions in the U.S, it's a top ten school of Public health that has over the years been at the forefront of stellar innovations and research works of great impact to the U.S and the world
V.o:What Will this degree do for you?
me: it will give me a top-notch edge in my chosen career path. Equip me adequately for health systems administration and policy formulation that Will allow me contribute significantly to bridging rural-urban divide in access to healthcare, improve health indices in Sub-saharan Africa and West Africa specifically.
V.o What courses Will you take in your first year
me:listed about five (only thing i looked up as I was being driven to the embassy)
vshocked What degree do u have?
me: I have Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery
v.o:What's that?
me: I'm a Medical doctor
v.o:Did you write any exam
me:Yes, GRE (passed the report )
v.o:can I see your transcript?
me: I only have my WES evaluation here
v.o:What's that?
me: it's the report of the agency most schools prefer for evaluation of the transcript of foreign graduates. It is this report the schools work with (she motioned for it and i passed it).*v.o nodding all the while*
V.o:ok,ok, who is sponsoring you?
Me:My Aunt
V.o:what does she do?
Me: She owns and runs an Oil and Gas retail business.
Vshocked (spent quite some time typing before facing me again) i'll still like to see your school transcript (writing on a white) .so,come any Monday or Wed with it
Me: I have it in my car around here
V.o: can you bring it before 1pm?
Me:yes
She made correction and passed me the white paper
So,I left and rushed back to Oshodi for the Transcript. The traffic on the other side of 3rd MB was discouraging but I made it back to the embassy before 12

I went through the routine checks again. This time my V.O was this amiable young white guy with infectious smile but I wasnt smiling as I was hungry and I've had to take medication to paralyse my gut when I started feeling funny after the first interview. I'd noticed the guy before my first interview and was hoping for him as it seemed he was catching fun issuing visas and it was glaring people he denied were not prepared or genuine.

V.o :Ok,do you have your transcript now?
me:Yes (passed him the papers)
v.o: You went to Ibadan?
me:yes
V.o:What happened your second exam?
me:I fell ill and was admitted few days to exam and I could not revise adequately for the exam so I passed on resiting the exam.
v.o:and your third exam?
me:I got little overwhelmed with school politics and some rural medical outreach involvements leaving me with little time to prepare adequately for the exam.
v.o: yea, these things happen
(my transcript actually shows good academic standings outside those blips n my reasons were actually the truth)
v.o: welcome to America,I'm going to approve your visa. You can pick it up in two days. Please keep your I-20 very well as you'll need it at the point of entry.
(v.o looking at my face all the while for that smile I think he likes extracting from faces,I was too hungry to smile )
I packed my stuff and rushed to work for my afternoon shift.

I saw quite a lot while waiting for my interview and all I can say is people should heed advice on this thread,be calm and prepared, choose the right school(s),write exams -gre, gmat, don't be nervous,be honest,go with necessary documents,be polite - two guys were arguing loudly with their v.os! and count on God.
I don't comment on posts on the thread but I read through all and got answers to the few I asked. A lot of you guys were really helpful I can say you prepared me for the interview. God knows you and he'll bless you.
Gravies!
One Question Please : Is there any Point of Entry precaution i need to take?I intend spending 3-4 days in Houston before flying to Minnesota.
Congrats Doctor, welcome to america. Yes, you can come to houston to spend few days before going to minnesota but I will advice you to come in through JFK (new york) because houston POE officers are strict. Book a flight to houston before leaving naija, they will give you a CBP form inside the plane or you can get at the aiport when you land, fill the name of your school on the form, give him eye contact. Same thing happen to me, I filled troy university and I was going to houston. Answer only what they ask you, once you are on the queue, bring out your i20 and your acceptance letter that's all. Goodluck

aanowai: Thanks for ur response and contribution. Agreed, i applied late but my package will not be dumped somewhere IJN, Amen.
Secondly, I've been made to understand that there are procedures in the review of applications for graduate study. I'm also made to understand that my application is not the only one the department is reviewing as there are lots of other documents from different pple, who has submitted b4 me.
The schl is resuming on the 25th of August and today is the 3rd wk, of the 4wks they are expected to get back to me. So I trust that all is well. Thanks once again for ur time.
Mr. Man, I was only advising ok, don't take it P, it's a normal thing admission office do, they have plenty package and you are not the only applicant and now its late, I don't even know you, so why will I cuss you. From your response, it shows you already spoke them, then why come and the question again when you know the school already promise you to review your stuffs this week. Anyways good luck

aanowai: Hello everyone in d house.
Gudafternoon to u all, congrats to all those who hv secured their F1 visas and best of luck to all the others on here, that are scheduled for their visa interviews and those awaiting the approval of their F1 visas.
This is my 1st time of writing in here but I hv been reading for the last 2months, the contributions and visas experiences of everyone here in anticipation of my own F1 visa.
On the 25th of June, after sending all my documents for graduate study, I received an email from the school I sent my applications to stating that:

1. They hv received all my documents and hv forwarded to the department for review.

2. The department will get back to me within 2 - 4 weeks.

Today is the 3rd week, of receiving that notice.

a. House I want to know from personal experience, how long it usually takes for the department concerned to keep one posted abt his/her application.

b. Those with personal experience, did you get feedback after 2 wks, 3 wks, 4wks or after 4 wk?

c. What is usually the response like, when the schl finally keeps one posted? I will like anyone with personal experience to copy and paste, the usual response from ur school when they finally give feedback, so that I know what to expect..

The schl, i applied to is resuming on 25th of August, so each passing day, i wake up anticipating a response from the schl.

I appreciate all the response from the house. Thanks.
Abeg no sit down dey look just like that, you applied late and by next week the school will start welcoming new students. When you apply, don't just wait for them to email you about the progress of your application, you are the one that need something not them, bomb them with emails and calls everyday, they might have even dumped your package somewhere because right now just few schools still accept students. If you are using MTN, load 1K card on your fone, send IBD 1000 to 131 and you get 2hours international call valid for 7days' keep calling them everyday to know your fate. Good luck

domex007: During your interview, were you asked anything about the missing page?
NOP, domex VO don't have time to check all ds-160 pages plus the missing page was the embassy's fault because I emailed them and they said they were the one that removed it from the ds-160 so if you don't see the page, don't be bothered, just explained everything you have to say on the specify and brief description

KClight: The School will resume on the 25th of August but in my I-20 they said we should be there before 8th of August. (Mandatory Orientation)
KClight, you can get the visa but CC is a red flag but people still get visa.
lemme outline something
1.your sister in houston as your sponsor and you are going to HCC » its obvious you want to go and met your sister RED FLAG, you need a naija sponsor maybe your dad and to spoil matter your mom is even a permanent resident chaiii» MOTHER and SON reunion

2. you didn't take any test, the test could have buffer you up and VO might just ask for that alone, worst part, you were studying english in nigeria , you didn't complete it, its not science related and now you going into nursing» GUY you have enough red flag already you con use this one spoil am, well you can decide not to say anything about your english studies on your ds-160 , ENGlish to nursing, no science related experience and you want to jump into nursing, you should have chose english and then when you get to your school you change back to nursing, some people filled a different course, got their visa and when they get to school, they change their course, so easy and simple. your age is fine and waec in 2011 is ok.

With what I listed your sucess rate is 20/80. The 20 is by prayer and God's grace. My advice chill till spring, get a university admission, get your visa with that and transfer to your college

when I filled the first form it didn't bring up the present work/education page, so I tried another one and It was same, so it was so obvious they have edited the website, so I only filled the page that came up and I make sure under the specify and brief description, I explained everytin that was meant to be on the missing page

KClight: I will be going for an interview in a week time. Got an admission in Houston College for a NURSING degree But what I don't really get is the question of what have you been doing since you left school. I am a student of imsu 200 level but my department is English and Literally studies. You see, if I say to the VO that I am studying English in imsu, Don't you think English as an academic discipline got nothing to do with Nursing? Please pals I am so confused really need your help. And besides imsu couldn't give me any transcript for now. ( really not an Organised institution)

ziga: Prescribing without a full patient assessment is wrong practice.

Also, anybody can claim to be anything on Nairaland.

If you can do it, a quack can come out next week to claim he is a Professor of pharmacology and destroy the lives of poor Nairalanders/Nigerians.

There is no way to verify your qualifications.

Let us stand for what is right and not destroy the medical practice in Nigeria any further.

With all due respect, I think it is wrong to tell people to buy medications that are dangerous and would normally need a prescription.
Mr ziga, so the doctors on NL that give prescriptions, counsel and advice did they do any assessment, oooo sorry spiritual assessment, you did E-scan and E-test for them , tell me. Kindly go to their thread and read, all you guys come here and criticize. I choose to ignore you ok. Since the pharmacists can't do it right then the doctors should come and reply people questions here.

Certification course is under M1 visa, its not a red flag at the embassy and with you travel history, you will be fine. A guy on US student thread got M1 visa recently for an aviation course. Give it a try but if you can try masters it will be better.

Rijo02: Lol.......US visa fee is even fixed at 170. Slimmy I think you are very correct cos the customer service lady told me dat it fluctuates; yesterday's price being 158.8. And now I think I recall that same last week, bureau de change was at 166.xx.
What's the perfect recommendation considering cost and safety?
Lemme break down this dollar and naira iiish. When I was about travelling, I went to GTbank to ask for PTA thinking they will gimme, they said Nop, that they have activated all master cards and that I can use it in US for transactions but I told them that I can see them buying for 156 and selling for 158, they were like its for western union or people with dollar account, so I left. I tried other banks and it was same. They advice me to go to bureau de change , I mean those aboki. So I got $500 from the aboki at the rate of 167naira. When I got to new york and I used the atm to withdraw, I was charged $3, but when I swipe the card at USairways stand to pay for my box for $60, I wasn't charge, just the $60 was debited at the rate of 166.07naira. So far I have been using and swiping my card everywhere I go and no charges but if you use the atm, 420naira will deducted for every transactions. You can link your GTbank card to your paypal account, I paid someone on nairaland connecting flight from NY to missouri with the paypal account and it was fine but current the current rate is around 166-168naira either swiping, online or ATM. If you have more questions, lemme know.

bimbola85: Bro,I've been using gtb's master card for all my international transactions.

They charge more than the exchange rate and I can say that anywhere.

Just last week, they charged me #166.32 per $ for all the payments I made and this prompted me to email them over the weekend to ask about their exchange rate. They said #161.50 while they charged more than that.

See the attachment for confirmation.
yea, rijo is wrong, so far its been around 166 or somtimes 167 sef. If you swipe your card at walmart or use the card online, there's no $3 charge, but if you use the atm then you will be charge $3

sisiafrika: So hw is US? Men, ur in for a fat pay! Are u gonna write PLAB or do pharm.D bfre dey allow u practice?
Its a 3-way thing, you come in for masters and then you use that opportunity to write your licensing exam and adapt to the system or you transfer your B.pharm transcript and start pharm D, because in US you need to do pre-pharmacy or have a B.sc before you can start pharm D but with your B.pharm, you can start Pharm D straight, again it depends on the school, they have different rules here so you need to thorough search on the school of your choice, call and email their admission office and tender your case, some school told me point blank that they don't want international student etc so it differ but you will see get schools that will accept you. Most people I met here are doing pharm D afresh because they don't want to go through the stress of licensing exam and they want to adapt well so they won't flop because sincerely its a different ball game here. So different strokes for different people.

All pharmacists on NL need to stand up to this, anything we try to do here, they bring it down. Its unfair ,shameful and Pure Wickedness and once they see a pharmacist open a thread, they come from every corner and bring it down. They kept reporting me to the moderator and making me get a ban every now and then. This thread has come to stay and this will be the last pharmacy thread you guys will pull down.
