Travel › Re: Nigerians To Be Deported From UK For Earning Less Than £35K by Zelex9(m): 2:50pm On Mar 14, 2016 |
The fact of the matter is that currently in Britain there is a strong immigration concern among the people. Pressure is on infrastructure such as healthcare, education and housing has led to serious debate hence the EU referendum coming up in June. This has nothing to do with targeting Nigerians specifically and while personally I do agree with the idea behind the policy. I am not a supporter behind the deportation (the policy should take effect on those seeking to migrate to the UK) as at least these people have the right to work and live in the UK. Energy should be spent on rounding up illegal immigrants. |

erico2k2: From where did you get or perceive that sense of steriotyping? ?? From all around, first hand experience of peoples conversations to the way some TV (specifically nollywood) programs portray society. I maintain, it is nothing to get emotional about like I've read with responses within this thread. The OP did it to attract attention hence comments to the thread. |

I don't see why anyone should feel offended by the OP's post. It is an obvious and intentional exaggeration of today's stereotypical Nigerian man (I personally find assuming). |
Politics › Re: Emir Sanusi Wants Nigeria Restructured by Zelex9(m): 12:54pm On Mar 11, 2016 |
A long time coming.....Nigeria's government structure is far too costly. Imagine what could be saved if for example we adopted the British parliamentary model (which was done previously), where the legislative and executive are one, with just one National house of assembly. No state house of assembly or governors as power is delegated to local council authorities (that enables the tailoring of policies according to each communities needs). I do however understand the reasoning behind the current structure (due to the heterogeneous nature of Nigeria) and indeed there have been some positives e.g. Lagos but in my opinion, the current structure has overall failed miserably and Nigeria would benefit with some kind of restructuring. |

cao: I've no idea if they've started filming season 2, I know it got renewed in November & it received an extended season order of 23 episodes. I won't be surprised if they've just wrapped up the production of season 1. Usually, during the first production cycle, they do the first order of episodes, usually 13 episodes (sometimes 10 episodes), then during the period, while the first production of episodes is being aired, they're waiting for the order for the "back 9" episodes to get the full season order - 22 total episodes (sometimes 18 episodes). They don't film all the episodes in one go, that's why we have the hiatus, that's when they're usually filming the second half. I see! That was helpful. Thanks for taking the time to explain. |

Thanks, I thought I understand how it works but I guess not...although I genuinely thought the season was over(remember reading that they had started filming season 2 some time back, unless I'm mixing things up?) |

2ndOhio: Help a friend with some info needed for his final year project. Details below;
"I am working on something related to Nigeria's Railway System for my final year project. I am focusing majorly on the railway crossings (where the railway crosses the motor roads) I know that the barricades at the crossings are usually lowered when a train is about to cross the intersection. I want to know how it is communicated to the NRC official (or whoever lowers the barricade) at the intersection that there is an oncoming train. Does this official know by the noisy sound the train makes or by when the official sights the train from afar or maybe there is a way the train pilot alerts the NRC oficial at the intersection. Thanks." I believe communication is done via telephone. |
Romance › Re: Relationships Are NOT Meant For Students by Zelex9(m): 11:15am On Mar 07, 2016 |
Jadekitana: I know some people would come out and say Jade has smoked her morning weed but like it or not a serious relationship isn't meant for students.
Imagine an average student who still depends on his parents for pocket money to buy handout talking about love, what do you understand by love? This generation has birthed people who now prefer actions to shakespare tales.
Your folks send you 5k to buy handouts, that money also includes pocket money to buy beans and t-fair, now tell me where does expenses for your so called babe come in? Oh u didn't think she would ask for recharge card right? She's always looking pretty and yours is to compliment not knowing those weekends she sneaks out is to go see her real boyfriend while you claiming love. After deceiving you, you rush here to create threads "the b.itch asked for recharge card,am I her father"
You think the scholars don't know what they are doing by not having relationships until after landing that chevron job? Girls are not smiling these days, its the hard truth. She would stick to you when she isn't yet exposed but once that exposure comes due to friends or peer pressure forget it! Love is a game don't be deceived, the highest bidder gets it all, while you are cursing and swearing she's having fun.
Cut your coat according to your size! Your wives are still in secondary school not the babes you are parading presently. If u ain't from affluent homes, not a yahoo boy, not into any business while schooling, you have no business having a serious relationship! You can have friends with benefits or flings as far as you play your game well.
80percent of relationships don't work after graduation, your so called bae may see a better bae and flee because time isn't on her side, stop wasting your emotions on fruitless relationships that would end at the gate. Read very well, f.uck that bff and come out with excellent grades, thank me later! I'm tired of seeing heartbroken childish threads from broke guys complaining about cheating girlfriends when you ain't worthy of having one the first place.
PS: the smart ones would see some truth here, the dumb ones would come here defending their naivety. Although a generalisation (which I guess needs to be made when an overall point) this is unfortunately the truth of today's society. I believe that energy would be better spent on finding ways to build and further ones career. Everything else will fall into place. I would like to say that all this is part of the learning experience of life. I don't fault those that decide to get into relationships while schooling etc. |

Should government be subsidising foreign education?
The true value of the dollar is not the pegged figure so why should government be subsidising the rich/upper middle class when they are less than 10% of the population Spot on! Let them use the black market exchange rate, If they can't afford it let them send their children to higher institutions in Nigeria. Is it compulsory to study abroad? |

Image123: Lol, good for him. He'd be impeached immediately if he attempted to just think of trying these in Nigeria. That's if he's not killed instead. Tanzania is a bigger country than Nigeria in landmass by the way, yet our population is about 4times their own. Our citizens are also more complex, variant, sophisticated, educated, powerful and rich. One man doesn't run things anyhow here. Our press and masses also have more freedom than theirs. We have greater economic problems than they do. And we have a different goal from them. Finally...someone who thinks logically!..I applaud the Tanzanian president for the active start he has made to his tenure however it is weak to benchmark his "performance" (if we can call it that?) with that of Nigeria, as an illustration of effective governance. |

Can we fault them though, knowing the current environment in Nigeria as you've listed? I find the responses in the thread quite intriguing in understanding the Nigerian "Psyche". Annalise: I have applied to corner store accounting firms. I have applied to account payable and credit officer roles. Graduate schemes and internship positions from big 4 to the UK Civil service. I have run out of ideas. Those positions are extremely competitive particularly in the UK, you shouldn't feel too bad. I'm not really sure what you should with regards to applications but I feel like I said earlier try sending speculative applications to smaller companies (firms with less than 50 employees etc.) |
Career › Re: Help by Zelex9(m): 5:43pm On Feb 29, 2016 |
Annalise: I had to leave because of time. I work part time in retail to support myself and also enrolled in full time education for ACCA. The 300 applications, about 10% were for jobs in Nigeria. Ok, I think I understand the situation better. Were these jobs mostly graduate schemes with regard to the UK applications? If so, have you tried speculative applications with a cover letter to SMEs, regarding junior staff roles? Finding a job in Nigeria is going to be tough regardless if you have the experience or not, considering the job market. Of course there is hope! however, you may need to temper expectations and start off with any kind of relevant role (which may be financially inconvenient?) to gather experience and add to your qualifications. |

cekhoe: given the amount pumped into our railways by past administrations,I see no other reason why.it shouldn't be working if nothing else but sabotage in the disguise of mismanagement, let's ask our selves,if our railways are working, who will be hit,the transport companies, if light becomes stable, who will be hit,the generator and spare parts importers, politics is just a tool for sabotage Valid points based on what you have seen from previous governments (I wouldn't disagree with you on that part), however with regards to rail, I would like to note that the Railways bill is currently going through 2nd reading at the senate which entails the privatization of the railways which will hopefully lead to limited government involvement which has its bane. That's why I like Buhari's persona, he may not be perfect but he has caused all these politicians to sit up and scrutinize each policy, contracts etc . Just this morning the senate ad-hoc committee discovered almost 40 railways contract were beached between 2010-2014. Why now have they discovered this now? I believe it all starts from a leader that has the intention to do right for the masses. The tasks at hand are monumental, and I, myself have been quite skeptical but I don't agree with you that the railways etc will not work. |

cekhoe: you should also ask me why I also think our power sector has been under sabotage by generator importers and the likes I still don't see in what way this would apply to the railway industry, would you care to enlighten me? |
Travel › Re: FG To Establish National Carrier by Zelex9(m): 11:13am On Feb 29, 2016 |
I'm indifferent from the issue, my initial thought is resources would be better spent on projects that require immediate attention but i understand that just because FG is looking into the idea of a national carrier doesn't stop them from working on other projects simultaneously. I also understand that aviation in Nigeria most likely has the greatest percentage of total transportation value, hence from an economic perspective it would be reasonable for the FG to be look into opportunities within the industry in diversifying the economy. cekhoe: misplaced priorities, but on the other hand those railways will never work because transport companies will sabotage it Sorry, but would you mind explaining why you think so? |

Jadekitana: Instead of insulting ladies, go and make money and buy a car regardless of your age and thank me later! My dad was employed in shell as a corper @age 22. Enough of these rants from lazy youths The question is "how common are opportunities available for the average Nigerian" in achieving such at a young age? Rather than laziness, maybe they don't know how to plan effectively in today's harsh employment market? Is that solely their fault? This is not the Nigeria of "yesteryears" where jobs/industries were aplenty. (My dad himself, working with Nigerian Airways, by 24 he was travelling to Italy, UK etc.) The one thing I agree with, is that time shouldn't be wasted on these girls but spent on trying to better oneself. |
