Politics › Re: Why The Igbos Will Never Produce A President by zendy:
I said this same thing in another thread that it will be a very difficult thing for my fellow Igbo man to ever be president but not because of Igbo unity or lack of. The real reason why an Igbo man can never be president is because the the average northerner and Yoruba man will rather recieve a thousand lashes of 'koboko' than vote an Igbo man to be president even if this Igbo man was the Pope. The fear of what an Igbo man might do if he gets into power disturbs these people. The only reason a south-South man ever became president was the unfortunate death of a northern president. But not to worry, the office of the president of Nigeria has become a 'poisoned chalice' which the Igbos can do without. What the Igbos need isn't the office of the president. What we need is political unity. A president of Igbo extraction will not do Igbos any special favours but a United Igbo nation can become a force to be reckoned with in Africa

Op, would you rather have ojukwu- the cross dressing, chest- beating orangutan's face on our 20 naira note, instead.?
Mutala or Murutala (I've heard him referred to as either) being on the 20 Naira note has nothing to do with Ojukwu,in fact,if you read the Biography of Ojukwu called "Emeka" you would come across a section where Ojukwu actually saved Mutala from being dismissed from the army. This thread is meant to ask why a man like Mutala should have a place of honour on the 20 Naira note even though everybody knows he was a mass murderer. I think it is a national disgrace that a man who committed all the atrocities he did should be commended in death. I guess that's Nigeria for you.

MY heart bleeds when I see comment's like this,..where is our patroit spirit?..where is the love for nigerie?...if couldn't stand together,..how then are we to survive separately?..if can't eradicate corruption together?,can we do to that alone?,..NIGERIA will remain one,,,the entity holding nigeria is strong,..we can't break.
Don't talk nonsense. We were all surviving separately before the White man came and forced us together. The White man has long gone back home and it is time for us to revert back to our individual selves and keep surviving. Call it tribalism but my loyalty and patriotism is first to the Igbo nation before Nigeria.
Politics › Re: America Is Now Waiting For Nigeria To Collapse! by zendy: 9:15am On Dec 03, 2014
I'm kind of sympathetic to Nigerians who are optimistic that Nigeria will not break-up. I'm sympathetic because having false hope is not always a bad thing. The truth is that Nigeria is sham. A 55 year old scam created not by Africans but by the White man who wanted to enrich himself. In Igbo, there a saying that goes " akaekpuchi Onwa" which means that the hand can never cover up the moon. Nobody can perpetually cover up a lie and Nigeria is one big fat lie that has been allowed to fester too long. How can anyone really expect the 3 main ethnic groups to live together under one roof? And why should we? Nigeria is a forced marriage,a prison and a nation held together by the barrel of the Gun. How does anybody in their right minds think this situation will survive? I as an Igbo man who wants my sovereignty to decide for myself if I want to be part of Nigeria or not. It is my right. Is it by force to be a Nigerian? Nigeria should break! Or in the very least, the Igbos should be let go to go and pursue their destiny. The rest of you that love Nigeria can carry on without us.

Stop wasting ur time on irrelevant things
There's no comparison between Ojukwu and Murutala. Ojukwu was never involved in any coup,Ojukwu never encouraged wholesale murder,Ojukwu fought a war to defend his people and not genocide. Ojukwu may have declared Biafra but he followed the wishes of his and their right to choose if they want be Nigerian or not. Ojukwu is a saint compared to the murderous Murutala.

Attention: Your spelling of the late former Head of State's name was wrong (Murutala), you may wish to take a critical look at 20 naira note for correction.
And for your question, you can't be more wise and intelligent than notable Nigerians that immortalized him. However, the ultimate is for you to make an indelible print on the sand of time.
I may not be as wise as some Nigerians who chose to immortalise him but that doesnt mean I can't ask why a certified mass murderer and renowned coup plotter has a place of honour on the 20 Naira note. Has the standard of Nigerians fallen so low to celebrate a killer?

Mr OP you are the most stewpid and clueless dude in the whole of Nairaland.
Do you know this man ruled with Obasanjo and it was one of the best military rule in Nigeria?
He fought corruption you don't know that?
He and Obasanjo after his death handed over power successfully in his time you don't know that?
You said he promoted himself. Do you expect a DPO to be the head where an Inspector General is?

You are too poor in history you don't know where you are from . . .
Strange that you say that I'm poor in history but you don't even know that Murutala was dead 3 years before Obasunjo handed over to Shagari. Murutala didn't hand over to anyone. So you like this man because he fought corruption for 6 months even though he killed thousands of people before then? So if I kill your father and go and fight corruption you will forgive me? The mentality of some people is truly astonishing

^^^^^ You must be very young not to realised that Murtala Mohammed was actually loved by many when he was Head Of State and when he died, there was riots all over the country.

The problem is that we have been unable to put out our history for younger generations.
The people loved him out of ignorance or what? So when a man masterminds the deaths of so many people, that man should be loved if he 'shoots' his way to power and brings about popular reforms? Hitler did something similar in Germany but Germans never put him on the deautch mark. Hmmmm....... What stops Shakau being on the 100 Naira note one day?
Politics › Why Is Murutala's Face Still On The 20 Naira Note? by zendy(op):
A nations currency of exchange usually depicts its culture, people, history as well men and women who have contributed immensely to national development. That is why it beats my imagination that a man like Murutala Ramat Mohammed still has,not just a place of honour on the 20 Naira note, but also has an International Airport and many other landmarks named after him. How is this possible? Or is it that no one cares about history any more? How can such a controversial character still be accorded such recognition?
The sins of Murutala:

1] Led the counter coup and superviced the killing of over 300 fellow officers. Murutala led other northern elements to commit this murderous act in retaliation for what they tagged an "Igbo coup". For me,a coup plotter, wether Nzeogwu or Murutala has any place in history. It should also be noted that everyone who participated in the first coup were punished at the end of the war while Murutala and co who committed far worse atrocities got off scot-free.

2]Troops under Murutala's command committed genocide in Asaba when they entered the city at the start of the civil war. Over 700 defenceless civilians who came to welcome the federal troops were gunned down in cold blood. Wether this happend on Murutala's orders or not is immaterial. His troops killed people and he should bear responsibility for the conduct of his men.

3]Murutala,in direct contravention of orders and sound advice led thousands of Nigerian soldiers to their deaths trying to cross the river Niger (in 3 separate attempts) into Onitsha all in his vain attempt to increase his popularity. His troops would later be destroyed at Abagana and he was recalled from the war and sent to London while many of his men lay dead under the River Niger.

4]Murutala came to represent the face of northern domination. He kicked out Gowon, seized power, retired everyone who was above him in rank and in one of the worst acts of military indecipline,he triple promoted himself from a one star Brigadier to a full 4 star General. Murutala was the first military officer to conduct a coup in other to take political power. Even Nzeogwu and co had no intention to take power for themselves.

Murutala Mohammed was a failed soldier,a sociopath, mass murderer and accomplished coup plotter. Because of him, many people needlessly died. My question is this. What is the face of such a despicable man doing on the 20 Naira note?

Rochas must be a confused man right now. He knows that unless a miracle happens,APC will not jump over Buhari and Atiku to make him presidential flagbearer and the chances of any of these men giving him the vice presidential slot are next to zero. Rochas will have to run for Governor of Imo again but this time he will also be campaigning for Atiku or Buhari to be president. Rochas is finished in politics. I find it very difficult to believe that Imo peole will allow that Hausa/Yoruba party into Igboland just because of Rochas. APGA must return to Government house in 2015!! Amen

Ruggedman is a joker. People like Idris Abdulkareem,Black Revrendz and Ruff Rugged/Raw were smashing up the air waves when Ruggedman was still in primary school. Why won't Gilbert Nnaji have a house like this? The man has held every political position under the sun since my secondary school days. State house of rep,Local Government chairman, national house of rep and now senator. So how will he not have a 'Castle' like this? Also remember that his father was the 'Igwe' of Nike and virtually controlled the politics of Enugu North. Nigerian politicians are all rogues,in fact, they don't bother hiding theft any more. Like they say, 'everyday is for the thief but just one day is for the owner'. A day of reckoning will come when men like Gilbert will have to tell the people where they got the money to build houses like this.

The next president of Nigeria can only come from APC or PDP. If Rochas doesn't get the APC ticket,is it PDP he will get? For Rochas to get the APC ticket,he will have to pray that Buhari and Atiku are out of the way and even then,he has the North and people like Kwankwaso to contend with. Anything is possible but the chances of Rochas emerging the APC flag bearer,to talk of president, are next to zero.

I remember reading an edition of the defunct 'prime people' magazine in the late 80's that was titled "The youngest millionaires in Nigeria". There were 3 guys on that list (none of them were even up to 30 years old then) who are now Billionaires and are now on this present list. Those guys were Aliko Dangote who can into commodities especially sugar, Mike Adenuga who was into merchant banking ( I think he was chairman of Devcom merchant Bank) and Orji Uzor Kalu who was into shipping and oil. These 3 guys had already made so much money still in their 20's that it was unbelievable. I don't know if Orji Uzor Kalu stole when he was Governor, that's for the Law court to decide, but I know he was already a Billionaire long before he moved into government house.

Politics › Re: Which Will Be More Bearable/Tolerable: Buhari's Defeat or Jonathan's Defeat? by zendy:
I also want to add this note of warning to APC supporters. I echo what Dokubo said in an interview "the south-South pays for everybody in Nigeria and he who pays the pied-piper dictates the tune". The south-South contributes over 70% of Nigerias GDP,just for that alone,no Nigerian should question Jonathans return to Aso Rock.Im from the south east, I don't say this out of ethnic sentiments. What moral right have the Yorubas and their northern cohorts to deny Jonathan a second term? Even if he is the worst president to come out of Nigeria, the fact remains that the oil and gas resources of his people is what is paying Nigerias way. Can the Yorubas or Northerners tell me anything they contributing to the South-South? The south-South people have the sea-port and oil, they do not need the rest of Nigeria for anything. Yet every month, they will all queue and collect Government subventions largely paid for by the wealth of the South/South then turn around to find reason why GEJ should not return. I completely support Dokubo when he said that minimum requirement for Oil to keep flowing is the return of GEJ in 2015. If the Yorubas and their northern cohorts think that GEJ should go,they had better start thinking about how to return to return all the money they have been collecting from the south-South since the end of the war to pay for 'Nigeria'.
Politics › Re: Which Will Be More Bearable/Tolerable: Buhari's Defeat or Jonathan's Defeat? by zendy:
The aftermath is that Buhari will have to think hard how to pay back the 27 million he borrowed from for the normination form. I think that there will be chaos and bloodshed regardless of who wins. If GEJ wins,Boko haram will intensify attacks as the North will never accept it. If Buhari wins, the Niger-Delta militants will go back to war. There's no way out of it,a lot heads will 'roll' before, during and after the 2015 elections. Wether Nigeria will survive the carnage is what we will all have to wait and see. It's the price for carrying on with a failed state where people are forced against their will to live with people they have nothing in common with.

Let me advise you for free, stop reading from drop outs like you.
If you were looking for a book that itemizes the Niger delta involvement and you left "sunrise in Biafra" for Odogwu's fiction, I wonder what is left of your sanity,

Not all books are worthy of public consumption, It takes intelligence to draw the lines, that is what you lack.

Please stop quoting me if you cant provide answers to my questions, you think p0rn magazines equate to history books, Fvcktard!!
You want answers and proof yet you do not want to read any of the books I have listed. You can't even read "Emeka" written by Frederick Forsight who is one the most respected writers in British history and was even present throughout the Entire Biafran debacle. I read most of these books including Elechi Amadi's Sunset in Biafra before I left secondary secondary school. I have read books on both sides of the argument to reach an informed decision. If you cannot read any of the books I have listed except that of the disgruntled Elechi Amadi, then don't come here for name calling and showcasing your ignorance. Go and read the books I listed then come back and make informed comment about Ojukwu and if you feel you know more about Ojukwu and Biafra than the great historical writer called Frederick foresight (who was a BBC reporter inside Biafra) then your ignorance is getting dangerously close to stupidity.

Mr m0r0n, in case you forgot, Odogwu is not a credible source for Niger delta involvement in the Biafra war, how about reading the "sunset in Biafra" by Elechi Amadi a true Niger delta son?

you continue lying about this eastern consultative assembly who approved Ojukwu's declaration of Biafra, how the Niger deltans were represented by two individuals, please what are their names? abi they are ghosts?

According to Elechi Amadi he emphatically used the sentence "occupation of Niger delta by Biafran forces" It is on history that it was still a Niger deltan who reclaimed portharcourt and some other areas for Nigeria.

You claimed Emeka Ojukwu took loan from the Ivorians to start a transport company please tell us the name?? because as far back as the 50's Loius Ojukwu has founded OTL, Ojukwu transport limited so which one was Emeka managing in exile?

To believe that a political fugitive will benefit from a state loan in a foreign country is the height of your buffoonery and epitomised imbecility.

Louis not talking to Ojukwu did not stop Emeka from enjoying his wealth in death, are you aware that Emeka has an older brother who is a doctor? Bianca ensured he was relegated to oblivion for the spoils to continue.

Gen Ogundipe renounced his position as head of state, Why was ojukwu insisting he must come and claim it when it was clear the man wanted peace?
was Ojukwu not crying more than the bereaved?

Dont quote my post again if you cannot provide proof of your lies.
I take not kindly when crickets like you mutilate my posts.
Go and read the books I listed (They can be found in any reputable library) instead of coming here to showcase your ignorance.

Heard many tales about how Awolowo promised the Igbo he would lead the Yorubas out of Nigeria in the event of the Igbos leaving, but none have been able to tell me how Awolowo was going to be able to that as a civilian who not only does not control a troop but then, was just released from an incarceration which no doubt would have decimated even his political stronghold.

Besides the legendary hatred for Awolowo by some quarters which, is usually spurious and baseless, its also difficult to see why in the 21st century Nigeria, we cannot discuss issues without spewing hatred and derogatory remarks about other tribes. What on earth would have warranted remarks such as ''Just like a typical Yoruba man who cannot be trusted''.....Some cannot help but remain slaves to the debauchery of their depraved minds...
Oh please,Awolowo was parading himself as the leader of the Yoruba people and probably rightfully was. The only thing standing in his way of pulling the west out of Nigeria where a few thousand illiterate soldiers in Ikeja Barrak led by Gowon and Murutala who were more or less surrounded by the majority Yorubas. I will never know why a man like Awolowo who knew how northern soldiers and civilians alike were murdering easterners in such gruesome ways as decapitations and disembowelment could turn around and think "people capable of such depravity are just exactly the right people for the Yorubas to be in the same nation" Was this man thinking straight at the time? He could have gone underground and made a declaration urging the Yoruba people to seize Lagos ,arrest Gowon and Murutala and declare the Oduduwa nation. Instead,he did what all the other leaders of the time except Ojukwu did. He accepted Northern domination. As for my saying that the typical Yoruba man cannot be trusted,we Igbos and Yorubas share the same sentiments about each other,it's nothing new.

Okorocha is a drowning man. This latest act of his is a deperate gamblers last throw of the dice. He knows that Imolites are waiting to kick him into political oblivion for his treachery to the Igbo nation. How is it that this man who left his own people to join a Yoruba/Hausa movement thinks he will be given the APC ticket? So he really thinks that APC will leave Buhari,Atiku,Kwankwaso and Fashola to give him the ticket? Has he forgotten so soon how How ANPP disgraced him and his other southern presidential aspirants years ago? How can he not see that APC are just using him and Amaechi to divide the southern vote to ensure that power returns to the north? A man generally regarded as a traitor in Igbo land is coming to say he will be president. He cant even capture the hearts and minds of his own people first. Oh well,2015 is just around the corner and we Igbos will teach Okorocha that we are not interested in sell-outs. Bringing money in trailer indeed!! What a cheeky Mofo!!
Politics › Re: Ken Saro Wiwa's Last Words Before His Execution On 10 Nov. 1995 by zendy: 8:48am On Nov 11, 2014
Dlionsheart:
SO WRONG MY FRIENDS.
Ojukwu got it all wrong. In the first place, what was Ojukwu's plan with the South South and South - West before going to war with Nigeria. What was his plan for the entire East - Igbo. I can tell you from all available facts that even some igbo elite were only conscripted into his Biafra war, were not taken to confidence, briefed for his tactical war plans or allowed to have a say on how to go about the war and win. All he needs to win the war was to create strong ties with the West (Awolowo) and at least captured Lagos. But no, he was so angry and in a hast that he can not wait for the Yorubas and the Niger Delta. Hence the failure and defeat. He never carried them along but wanted them to fight/defend for what they know nothing about. One person alone cannot plan, fight and win war without allies (especially a civil war as it were).

Ken Saro wiwa believed in the oneness of Nigeria, fought to defend its unity. Same with Awolowo. They were not a traitor or betrayers. Ojukwu disrespected elders advice from Awolowo and co. How then do you expect the same people to support himhuh??

Ken Saro Wiwa in his none violent quest to righting the wrongs of inequality, marginalization, ecological war, environmental degradation, pollution of air and waters, constant oil spillage, destruction of the eco system, etc, he sell the idea to the entire people of Ogoni to have a platform called MOSOP - Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People. He coordinated their efforts, sought for international support. But Gen. Abacha was bent on destroying anything that would interrupt his petro-dollar.

Ogoni oil have been locked up since 1993 till date. They might not have achieved much but they're perfect example of how we need to take our destiny into our hands. And achieve it none violently even in the face of increasing intimidation.

LIVE ON, KEN SARO WIWA

LONG LIVE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!!!
I think you've got this wrong on many levels . I have read a lot about the war, watched first hand interviews of the major participants and my father was a captain in the Biafran army and has told a lot about it. I still have letters my father wrote to my mother from the war front so I can authoritatively tell you I know a thing or two about the times. Ojukwu was a man of peace. Ojukwu actually wanted Nigeria to remain one but he was not about to sacrifice his people to Northern domination in other to keep Nigeria one. The Aburi agreement which Gowon and Ojukwu signed was meant to run Nigeria as a confederation where nobody could dominate another but the greedy northerners and their lust to control the economic and political life of Nigeria led to war. Ojukwu did not fire the first shot either. As for the people of the south-South such as Ken Saro-Wiwa who fought against Biafra, what happened later? All the oil wells in the south-South are now owned by northerners. The south-South people have been bled dry because they wanted Nigeria and Ojukwu has long been vindicated. The people of the South-south jumped from the frying pan of Biafra straight into the hellfire of Nigeria because of people like Saro-Wiwa. As for Awolowo, this man came to Enugu and told a large crowd of Igbos that should the eastern people pull out of Nigeria,Yorubas would follow suit. Just like a typical Yoruba man who cannot be trusted,he chickend out and took a plum job in Gowons cabinet from where he orchestrated the economic strangulation of the easterners. Maybe Ojukwu was stubborn and high handed but I have no doubt he meant well. War situations are not normal. Saro-Wiwa paid the price for not being wise enough to see that the war to keep Nigeria one was actually a war to take over the oil of Niger-Delta people by the northerners. He was more concerned about Igbo domination not realising that he was making the situation worse by adding northerners and their Yoruba cohorts to the list. Today, the Niger-Delta people are in an even bigger prison than they were in the eastern region, even with a south-South president. Saro-Wiwa paid with his life for not knowing who his real enemy was.
