What are you talking about? Have you ever heard of a permanent military rule. Military rule always gives way to civilian rule in the end. It may take years but every country eventually returns to civilian rule because military rule is simply not sustainable.

Ironsi was killed 6 months into his adminiteration, he left 4 Regions. What Gowon should have done on assuming power was to preserve the 4 Regions he met and and beging planning for a phased return to civilian rule in 3 or 4 years. That way, civilians will still return to the 4 Regions that were on the ground and life goes on.

But because Gowon and his Northern goons knew that having a 4 Regional structure prevented them from dominating Nigeria, they abolished the 4 Regions, created 12 'weak' states, entrenched unitary rule and took away resource control.

The reason why we dont lobby for it is the colonial argument. How can you be lobbying for your freedom when you never agreed to part of Nigeria in the first place? Does that make sense to you? A British man called Lugard came to west Africa and forced several ethnic groups together at gun point. He then declared all the ethnic groups he forced together as 'Nigerians' in 1914.

The whole argument here is that Lugard has long gone back home, so why still hold the people at gun point? The government should recognise that Lugard commited a great evil by forcing people together and therefore, a referendum should be held to give the people the right carry on with the Nigeria Lugard invented or to return as they were before Lugard came.

Nigeria was fraudulently created and it cannot be fraudulently sustained.

Referendum is the only answer or there will never be peace.

Go back and read the contents of the Unification Decree 34 enacted by Aguiyi-Ironsi. After that decree came into force, the regions then continued to exist in name only. Their powers had been usurped and concentrated in the hands of the federal govt.

I have read it. The decree essentially centralised government.

There two important things to note.
The first is that military rule is always a temporary thing. Whatever decrees issued during military times are always removed as soon civilians return. Decrees are never carried forward into civilian rule. In essence, decree 34 like all other decrees were just temporal

The second thing to note is that Ironsi met 4 Regions and he left 4 Regions. You may say in name only but there were 4 Regions with 4 well defined boundries with 4 Regional Military Governors and all 4 Regions practiced resource control and fiscal federalism.

Had Gowon left the 4 Regional structure the way he met them, decree 34 would have been removed on the return of civilian rule, we would still have 4 Regions and still be practicing true federalism.

But by replacing the 4 Regions with 12 states, Gowon destroyed the entire structural arrangement of Nigeria and made it impossible to ever grow as nation.

You dont seem.to understand what is on the ground here. Nigeria is a hostage situation. Nigeria is holding people hostage against their will. Lugard came to west Africa and forced us all together at gun point in other to create Nigeria.

What these people are now saying is that since Lugard and the British have now returned home, why continue the hostage situation? Why hold people against their will? There are some people who wish to return at thry were before Lugard came, why hold them?

Erm... point of correction. The 4 regions disappeared technically, when Aguiyi-Ironsi created Decree 34 - the Unitary decree. Check the archives.

Well you will have to explain this techicality because because all 4 regions were still existing the day the day Ironsi died. They had their defined boundaries, they had their flags, the 4 Regions even had resource control. So how did the 4 Region disappear under Ironsi?

On Friday, 20th of January 2017, Biafran sympathisers from all works of life gathered in Portharcourt ( Igweocha) to felicitate with the incoming president of America, Donald J Trump. During the peaceful assembly, members of the Nigerian Security agencies who were there to forestall break down of law and order opened fire on unarmed, defenceless Biafran sympathisers.

It is a cardinal sin for an armed forces member to open fire on an unarmed person, no matter what the unarmed person is doing or saying as long as he poses no threath. Under the rules of engagement, a military personnel is not allowed to open fire on a civilian in a non combat situation unless a clear and present danger exists.

It should also be noted that Chapter 4 of the Nigerian constitution allows everyone certain "freedoms". Freedom of movement, expression and conscience.

So it doesn't matter If IPOB were celebrating the swearing in of Donald Trump or the Birthday of Mahatma Ghandi, it is their right to do so. The law also allows them "freedom of conscience" which means that they are allowed to believe in Biafra if they so wish. So when IPOB exercise the freedoms accorded to them by the Nigerian constitution and the security agents who should be upholding the law turn around to desecrate the constitution by shooting unarmed people, we should all rise and condemn it because it could any of us tomorrow. It could be any of us tomorrow out on the streets protesting, maybe not over the issue of Biafra but protesting none the less. Why should exercising our constitutional rights attract shootings from the very people who are paid to protect the populace?

The last link is a young man wearing a blue shirt who was shot and the Biafran family writers tried to help him. IPOB has reported that not less than 15 people were killed, over 80 hospitalised for various degrees of injury and nearly 200 so far unaccounted for. Anyone with an ounce of dignity in them should feel ashamed that the giant of Africa is still a country where life means nothing.

Well, it might interest you to know that Gowon and his Northern goons , aided by you Yorubas, won the war and imposed their rule over Nigeria anyway. The 4 Regions diappeared and was replaced by 12 states, resource control vanished as did fiscal responsibility and full blown unitary rule.

What is there not to understand? That the old Eastern Region and Igbos under Ojukwu decided in 1967 that British colonial creation known as Nigeria was not for them and they left as Biafra.

That the Government of Gowon then declared war on Biafra then proceeded to invade Biafra starting with the Biafran border town of Gakem in Ogoja and later, Obolo Afor in Nsukka.

That Ojukwu responded by invading places in Nigeria such as the Mid West and Ore?

I dont know which ethnic groups signed treaties with the British but that agreement was with the British and not with Nigerians. The British have long gone back home.

So you dont know that until October 1st 1960, Nigeria was still a British state? Nigeria officially began in 1960 and what the British should have done was to conduct a referendum to let all the ethnic groups they forced together in other to create Nigeria to decide their fate.

But lets just assume for the sake of argument that Igbos gave up their sovereignty to be part of Nigeria. The same Igbos or any ethnic group can decide to seek divorce any time. There is no such thing as 'Together Forever'. It remains the inalinable right of the Igbo nation to decide if they want to remain part of Nigeria or not.
