I have been to Elele in Ikwere LGT many times. Elele people proudly embrace their Igbo identity so Im not surprised that Uche Okwukwu ran for Secretary General of Ohaneze. I think that the Ikwerre/Igbo identity is more in places like Isiokpo and Emohua. There are many Ikwerres who believe they are Igbos and there are many who dont regard themselves Igbo, to each their own.

Y the tribal war among Nigeria youth. dont 4get that our fathers bled to keep this country as one. anyone bold enough to disintegrate this great nation should be ready to face the full wrath of the law, be it yorubas, hausas or igbos. This is the time to stay together as brothers and sisters to uplift our great nation. Finally dont 4get that war is not beans that u eat or child's toy, the wise nations avoid conflict nt becos they are cowards but they realise that embracing peace is the way forward. Let us stand as one to fight the corrupt leader rather than fighting ourself.
What are you talking about? Nigeria is the country created by Lord Lugard. Who are you to claim the country another man created as your own? Did you seek Lugards permission before doing so?

Ol' boy, I suggest you go and read up on Ironsi's decree 34 and then come back here and tell us what you think it meant.
I dont need to read it to know that the four Regions still existed after it was promulgated. They didnt exist after Gowon promulgated his own decree. You dont have to Einstein to figure out who killed the Regions between Ironsi and Gowon.

If you represent a voice of IPOB, then am afraid the organisation is a nuisance and deserves to be disbanded. Why must you impose your will on others? Who gave you the right to forcefully join uninterested minority groups into your map? Some of these groups - like the Itshekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw - have told you times without number that they weren't interested, yet you claim dumb, kept drowning their voices, calling them afonjas at the slightest chance and painting them as saboteurs.
Keep deluding yourselves until it stares you right at the face. The Igbo nation just as spoken by Ugomba is a large one, and comprising the states in the SE as well as Igboid groups in the SS. We are big enough to stay on our own, rely solely on our God giving human capabilities and don't need a forceful alliance with some minorities to attain our heights? We dont. You guys should stop making it look as if there is an ulterior agenda behind your agitation. However, if IPOB continues on it's path of self-ignorance and foolishness, then it may become obvious that an IPOB led Igbo republic is a mission on disaster, and that staying put for now under an indivisible Nigeria is our best bet until a charismatic group with a well cut out plan emerges.
You can as well gather your boys and call me an Afonja if you like! I won't bulge.
You have everything twisted on its head. Do you know what the rising sun on the Biafra signifies? The Sun has 11 Rays signifying the 11 Regions of Biafra and just one of those Regions is Igbo, what do you think the other 10 are? Biafra has never been just about Igbos. Quite right that the great Igbo nation, Igboids and Igbo speaking people are large enough to go it alone but thats a completely different thing. At the end of the day, Biafra remains a proposition and a proposition is not a forceful thing. Referendum remains one of the most democratic instruments in the world, how can referendum be regarded as something forceful when it allows people to choose their destiny? A priviledge no Nigerian has ever enjoyed. You said the minorities are not interested? How did you reach this conclusion? I listend to Radio Biafra last night, part of the broadcast was in Urohbo language. Urohbos were calling in, speaking their language and pledging allegiance to Biafra. This is not about some Yoruba guy creating a false monika and coming here to shout 'our Oil', Im talking about what I heard last night. It was even last night that I learnt that blood means the same in Urohbo and Igbo. Im not even talking about the Akwa-Cross callers. There are more than 40 tribes in the South of Nigeria, anyone who tells you he speaks for all of them is a lier. So thats why they should be given the chance, via referendum, to speak their mind. If you call that 'by force' then you had better rethink. As anyone plans for a new life of independence, they should put into consideration who their neigbours will be because that might determin if you will know peace.

How did you expect the Biafran Soldiers who were heading for Lagos to get there except through the East-West Road that went through Benin city? You wanted them to fly? Besides, it was the Nigerian/Biafran war was it not? Was what is now called Edo state not part of Nigeria? So whats the problem? Biafra had the right to invade anywhere in Nigeria including Edo same as Gowon had the right to invade anywhere in Biafra. All tis a petty talk. Edo state is not part of Biafra and nobody has ever included it as part of except the Igbo speaking Igbanke community.

Ugomba:
my name is ugomba, an indigene of Ogwashi ukwu,Aniocha. am a proud Delta Igbo.
I want to talk about Biafra, many of our anioma fathers fought in the war, but the focus now is on the METHODOLOGY OF NNAMDI KANU.
1) why must the ijaws, ogoni, urhobo ,itsekirietc be included in biafra map when its obvious that they are not interested?they will betray Igbos again if war breaks out.
Let me remind you something. Biafra has never been an Igbo only thing like many have been led to believe. The last president of Biafra was not an Igbo man. The man Ojukwu handed over to was not an Igbo man. The two most poweful people in Biafra after Ojukwu were not Igbos. The present king of your village, Igwe Okonjo was a Brigadier general in the Biafran armed forces. My own father is an ex Biafran Soldier who fought along side many minorities in Biafra. Theres nothing to betray any more because even the minorities now know who the real enemies are.

2) during regionalism, urhobos, isoko, itsekiri were under midwest and not eastern nigeria, so when did their land become biafra territory?
But if you actually remember, the mid-west did not complain when Ojukwu invaded and declared them Republic of the mid west.
3) why do you insist on refrendum on the land of people who never asked for one. eg ijaws, ogoni etc?
Go and ask these people, they want referendum even more than Igbos. Im yet to see anyone from the Southern minorities who said they are perfectly happy with Nigeria and the way it is. Infact, Im yet to hear anyone in the Southern minorities reject referendum and shout 'one Nigeria'. Infact, referendum gives those who dont want Biafra to the opportunity to continue with Nigeria, so why would they be against what helps them?
[/4) Midwest was formerly under western Nigrmeria YET I dont see yorubas including urhobos, isokoetc in anything oduduwa..
How will Yourubas care about Urohbos when Yorubas dont care about Oduduwa Republic? If you dont know, know it now. Yorubas are staunch supporters of 'one Nigeria,
5) why are the Ipobs making the igbos look like a desperate tribe? can't we agitate without including South south minority tribes?
As I said before, Biafra has never been an Igbo only thing. Do you think Igbos have the strenght to start fighting that we must be with some people? Igbos dont do that. What Igbos can do is propose a referendum, those who dont like it can vote to stay in Nigeria or not participate at all. And if they take a referendum as a sign of desperation they are silly. Its not like if Igbos leave Nigeria, these Minorities will not be even more minor.
6) why do you ipobs insult anyone with a contraditing view to your agitation?
Its a general problem amongst the ethnic groups. Were you not here 2 years ago when APC were campaigning. If you had dared to question why Buhari should be elected, the Northerners and their Yoruba friends would have come for your head. Now that Buhari has been elected, there is no one saying 'Sai Baba' any more.
7) even if Nigeria breaks today, why not a nation for the Igbos only.kh
True. But what kind of people would Igbos be if they left the minorities they have interacted for thousands years with without asking them, are you happy with the situation or are you moving with me? Remember, these are our neighours. Personally, I know that an Igbo only Biafra will do well, but if we left without asking these people, it will be bad for the future because they will hate us much from inside Nigeria. Let posterity then judge all that we gave them an upportunity which they either choose to accept or reject. One thing is certain, theres is no Igbo man that is going to fight a war to include any minority in Biafra.

cool that Asari dokubo is supporting biafra does not mean that the ijaws want Biafra. stop living in delusion.

I can go on and on. Nnamdi kanu methods has many flaws in it.
We are not a desperate tribe,IPOBS Leave the South South minorities alone!
thanks
Theres no desperation here. Desperation is when you leave your area, like Gowon did, to go and fight in the East in other to be with a people instead of conducting a referendum and letting everyone choose their destiny

You're the one speaking out of ignorance. Ironsi decree established a unified civil service which effectively nullified regionalism.

The fact remains that if Ironsi did not abolish the previous structure through the unification decree, nobody would be angling to return to it today.

The bottom line is that nobody is restructuring nothing to fit the selfish desires of some sections of the country.
Your just being mischevious .you are concerned that Ironsi unified the federal civil service but you dont care that Ironsi left resources control and fiscal responsibility which is even far important. Why arent you calling out Gowon who created states? We are talking about eho burnt the house down, you tslking about who rearranged the furniture. You are not seriouse.

Liar.

The unification decree was by Aguiyi Ironsi an Ibo man. If he had left things intact, we would still have regionalism today and that's a fact.

Enjoy your federal structure, nobody is restructuring again to satisfy your selfish desires.
Google Ironsi's unification decree if you dont know about it. Ironsi met 4 Region and he left 4 Regions when he died. Gowon met 4 Regions, by the time Gowon was leaving, the Regions were gone, we had 12 states and he was in the process of increasing it to 19. Dont speak out of ignorance. We are talking about Gowon who burnt the house down, you are busy talking about Ironsi who only rearranged the furniture.

It is only childish because you dont know how the law operates. Nobody can be jailed in a democracy for what they say, be it in real life or on video. Let me use Nnamdi Kanu as an example. Nnamdi Kanu is on video asking for weapons to fight Nigeria. Because chapter 4 of the Nigerian constitution allows Nnamdi Kanu freedom of speech, the video cannot be used because Kanu is simply exercising his right to free speech in the video. The only way that video can be used against Kanu is if Kanu actually recieved money and went on to get weapons to fight Nigeria and the prosecution will have to prove this. But if it is just the video, there is no case.

The problem is not Gowon's problem. What did Aguiyi Ironsi see that is wrong with Nigeria before passing the UNIFICATION code that is to establish a Unitary system of government ?

Every argument you make on this post should be deduced from here hencefort or you claim remain baseless and illogical because you simply can not persecute and executioner while you go silent on the originator of the evil called Unitary govt.

We all understand government is continuum, the interpretation Gowon gave to Ironsi evil Unitary system of govt does not absolve the evil Ironsi wished or brought upon the regions.

THE FACT WILL ALWAYS BE IRONSI TRUNCATED THE REGIONALISM EVERY LIVING SOUL IN NIGERIA KNOW IS THE BEST FORM OF GOVT FOR THE COUNTRY ONLY FOR HIS SELFISH DUBIOUS AND DEVILISH PLAN.
The like of Gowon only tried making the best of the pathetic situation Aguiyi Ironsi plunged Nigeria.
Your problem is that you dont Nigerian history well. What you have to understand is that Military rule is supposed to be a temporary thing. How can Ironsi have truncated Regionalism when the 4 Regions were still existing the day Ironsi died? Had Gowon not went on to divide the 4 Regions into 12 states, the same decree 34 Ironsi promulgated would have been removed whenever Civialian Rule returned ( Civilians never carry military decrees foward into a democracy) and we would still be practicing Regionalism. How can Gowon be making the best of the situation when he was the one that abolished the Regions, created states and took away resource control and fiscal responsibility? That is making things much worse cause not even Ironsi went that far.

Adminisher:
What is nonsense?
Can't you think?

Regionalism led to a coup or maybe regionalism did not solve an inherent or hidden problem and the Nzeogwu coup happened.

The question is why did regionalism fail?
Why was there operation wetie in the West that caused anarchy and spoilt everything.
Why did Joseph Tarka form his party that was almost aligning with AG

You have to think about issues instead of being dogmatic or following the crowd who are shouting regionalism as if it was not something that had its failings.

Regionalism is now the very old thing that is suddenly looking attractive because of the lack of discipline and endurance to manage ourselves.

Nigeria has had three Constitutions after Gowon and non even considered GOING BACK to regionalism. So we must conclude that the thousands of people who were involved in those Constitutions were foolish or dishonest

The truth is that even within the regions, there were distinct nationalities. Please get an education , Nigeria is not just Ibo , Yoruba, Hausa and Kanuri.

Almost everybody canvassing for regionalism in Nigeria now is an out and out TRIBALIST.

Only they forget that Nigeria is more complex than just three regions dominated by three major tribes.

Operation Wetie for instance was partially about tendencies coming from the Yoruba Kiriji wars.

The Oyo's on Akintola's side were tending towards the north . Ijebus, Ifes, Ijeshas and Akure/ Ondo were for Awo. It was hidden under all the politicking.

So we come to the truth that there is no real Yoruba tribe.

To just think on the surface and open your mouth and say Nigeria should be just three regions for three major tribes and everybody lives happy ever after is very STUPID and childish.

Look at Southern Kaduna, is that an Islamic Hausa-Fulani nation ?

Please get serious.

Nigeria's restructuring should be centered on individual liberties. Get your mind off the politicians you love and want to see return to power when you are thinking of restructuring.
Think of happiness, fulfilment for yourself and your children.
The reason why regionalism failed is because Nigeria does not work as nation. Our colonial masters Britain have been practicing regionalism for over 200 years and it is working well for them.

The reason why it worked is that the Scotts, Welsh, English and Irish have had the squabbles and go well together.

In Nigeria, the major ethnic groups such as Igbo, Hausa and Igbo do not see eye to eye.

Yes there were coups when Nigeria practiced Regionalism but there were even more coups when Nigeria was no longer practicing Regionalism and far more corruption.

I never said anything about Nigeria having just 3 Regions representing 3 ethnic groups. The way Nigeria is right now, there is no reason we cant have as much as 6 Regions with a very weak center. Every Regions keeps the majority of resources accruing in their Region and pays a smaller percentage to the federal Govt. This way, nobody feels cheated.

This unitary system we are practicing in which 36 states, most of which can no longer pay salaries and are not viable is nonsense. It is also quite embarrasing that in a country like Nigeria with over 250 ethnic groups and 180 million people, one man will be president, head of Government and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces. This is very bad. We shoud have primeminister who is head of Government, a ceremonial president who is head of parliament and commander in chief. We have concentrated so much powers in Abuja.

Unitary system has been bad for Nigeria abd it is time to go back to Regionalism

The only way a person can be jailed just on spoken words alone is if the person breached the official secrets acts by revealing state secrets to an unauthorised person. Kanu does not fall within that area.

That video cannot be used in court to achieve anything. There are many there are many things Kanu can say in his defence. He could even say that he was speaking metaphorically and the guns in and bullets he talked about in the video was just political talk. The judge in a case is only after provable facts. Even I could upload a video where Im asking for weapons to go to war with Nigeria, but if the case got to court, I could say that it was all a prank and the prosecution will have to prove to the judge that I really meant it. How are they going to do that? Are they inside my head? In court, its all about what you can prove.

All Kanu needs to say is that he was soliciting for guns to go hunting in his village and prosecution is finished. They will have to prove that Kanu was looking for Guns to fight Nigeria and how will they prove that? The court is not interested in sentiments but provable facts.

The regions were broken on May 24, 1966 through the Unification Decree by Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi’s administration and not Gowon.

Edited:

Ironsi introduced and passed the unification decree. it didn't work as he wanted. he suspended it and asked that the decree be modified.

Gowon reverted Nigeria back to the federation system. Later changed his mind because of the unrest in the old eastern region abolished the regional system. He played a fast one on all of us.

Ironsi and Gowon take the blame.

Ironsi - for conceiving the idea
Gowon - for enforcing it
Well Ironsi did pass the unification decree, but he never divided the 4 Regions. Had Gowon kept the 4 Regions as Ironsi did, we might still be practicing Regionalism today. Gowon embarked on a state creation exercise that eventually landed Nigeria with 36 states, most of which are not viable. I still think that had Gowon kept the the 4 Regions, whatever unification decree Ironsi passed would have eventually been removed whenever civil rule returned.
