The matter is complicated. You will know that regulatory bodies exist in Nigeria and actually work if you are not into bribery. The place I work with is always full of them on routine checks because the company implements anti bribery and corruption to the fullest. But most of these companies pay them bribes and do any nonsense they wish.

please don't take it that way. He is right but may be did not put it in a pleasant manner. The company cannot be shut forever. They are suppose to pay adequate compensation to the family and other fines to local authority for non compliance on safety. They will be required to close all the gaps and the factory will open again. The time depends on how soon they meet up with the above. If factories will be closed based on accident leading to fatality, then we may have no factories again. Such accidents also happen once in a while in even the best safety compliant factory anywhere. Since humans are involved and not robots the hazards are always there.

There was a press release by the communities affected and the thread was here on nairaland. No issue of land compensation was mentioned in that statement. The issues were about minor contracts like sand supply and locals employment. This statement by FG is not just not about SE but everywhere and is not just about land compensation but other "undue demands" whatever that means.

Exactly the point I was making on the first thread on the trains. Many Nigerians just talk about what they know nothing about out of ignorance or non patriotic attitude towards their Country. If they see these trains operating in China, Europe or America, they will be jumping up and down applauding. This is good development no matter how little it is. It is left for continuous improvement to be ensured.

The writer of this is not even sure it is the pastor. From the news I cannot see conclusively where it is said the pastor was the one. therefore this news is inconclusive

I think we have not attained the level for using such, both in terms of technology, affordability, etc. I believe such a train will cost us more in buying, maintenance and what have you, and you cannot charge high fares needed for operating this. We love good things but believe me, they don't come cheap. The standard of living in countries you see these is well higher than a poverty stricken country like ours. We just have to accept that, some things are not feasible for us for now. We have too much unnecessary current expenditures leading to limited resources for capital expenditures. Base on the current situation of things, this is just the best, in anticipation of improvement.

For some of us that a familiar with the north, we know it is practically impossible for any northern person or Nigerian at large to beat Buhari in any fair election. If he writes an assignment for a lecturer, and the person is overlooking his mistakes to get the meaning, thats because the lecturer is looking for particular key-points which are more urgent in that context. And even at that, at a point, with writing as shoddy as this, he will have to remove some marks for poor communication

There is something like "fluent in spoken and written English" in the job market as well. The point is that, no serious organization will employ someone that writes poorly in this way. It is not all about understanding the communication. On the basis of his written English, one can vouch that, he does not have the IQ to pass the course. No one is looking for a perfect write up, but this is below minimum for an undergraduate and even for some of us that are not English masters.
