I think it will be unfair to say his excellency isn't working. But the question is, is the work he is doing commensurate with the IGR of lagos? For me he failed with the way he handled the toll gate issue, the doctors and the okada ban. The only reason why any literate person would rate a gov. high for infrastructural development (which is a constitutional obligation of gov. and right of the people) is because other govs. were not doing same. Now others like imo and akwa ibom are doing same bringing to the fore the need for a more definitive assessment of the claimed achievement. I pray God gives all our leaders health and courage to do their work without fear or favour (partisan or otherwise).

thelastPope: You even shamelessly posted the picture of one building and its interiors as Fashola's achivement in six years! Pathetic!

What is the name of the new hospital he has built and where is it located?

Can you send your kid to a Lagos public school? Except you are among the $2 a day class?

What is the present traffic situation in Lagos? It now takes like 1 to 2 hours to go from Oshodi to Ikeja depending on the time of the day! A journey of like 5 to 7 minutes!

Can you open your tap at home and get portable water?

What is the name of the new major road he has constructed and where is it located?

Isn't it now they are talking about Ikorodu road after six years? A major town in Lagos? Infact, make that after 13 years! The Idimu-LASU road is still nothing to write home about! What has he done differently from past governments apart from the planting of flowers and painting of white and yellow lines?

Akwa Ibom has finished their IPP and they will soon start to generate power. What has Lagos done? Still planning and projecting eh?

Fixing roads in Ikoyi is not fixing Lagos. Lagos is not Ikoyi. You need to cater for the masses not please some elites in Ikoyi or Banana island.

Idimu - LASU has been done for like 2 - 3 years now. It's all tared with side walk cef. Passed there today.

As a concerned Lagos tax paying citizen, when I hear Fashola is working I asked how and where and why am I not feeling the impact. Why do I have to run on generator regularly, why do I have to change tyres regularly as a result of bad road, why do I have to spend hours in traffic cause by illiterate drivers, why do I have to go to a private hospital for health care, why do I have to send my kids to private schools rather than public schools.

I am not a fan of Jonathan or PDP or ACN or any political holder. However, I want those singing and dancing to the Fashola propaganda to truly ask themselves if they have truly benefitted from Fashola's government. Has the employment rate increase in Lagos? Ngozi Okonji-Iweala declared a reduction in personal income tax for all Nigerian citizens. However, Lagos State inland revenue refuses to comply to the tax reduction. I do not support Okada as a means of transportation, but what are the alternatives in place. Many projects displayed are mainly private driven. Road construction and repairs are local government task, it is a shame for a governor to be receiving accolades for road repairs (whether fashola or any state governor). There is no working pipe borne water system in Lagos. There is no efficient transportation system in Lagos. At this stage, Lagos should be boasting of its on Integrated Power Plant which should actually providing 24hours power supply.

Fashola has concentrated more on the cities (Ikeja, VI, Ikoyi, Lekki and surulere) and has abandoned the suburbs. Well what has he even done to those places, repairs of street lights and roads. The Lagos of 1970 is better than the Lagos of today. There is no strategic planning. We have markets springing up in every corner, dirts littering around, miscreants bullying people and lawlessness pooking you on the face. Lagos has everything, a lot was spent on the city when it was the capital city, all the city needs is restructuring and repairs and not construction.

The tenancy bill was signed into law and this has resulted to a 100% increase in tenancy rate. Fashola implemented a law without alternatives. He builds housing schemes people cannot afford. It is a shame that I pay my taxes and do not owe the State Government, yet the government cannot cater basic infrastructures that I can utilize.

Ogbuefi_Negro: anytime any of our leaders in west take step in the wrong direction we jump on their case and demand correction. fashola is a bright star, he is not the first and wont be the last. Herbert Macaulay, Awolowo, Ajasin, Fawehinmi, Jakande, Obasanjo .....and many in past, yet many to come. We love them but we also scrutinized them. It shall remain so.

anytime a leader in North fvk up, Hausas cover him up and treat him with patriotism.

when Igbo leaders go looney and do opposite what people want, yanmiri start venting anger meant for this leader on Lagos and its governors instead.
for example, Obi said ndigbos are too difficult to govern.

if that was their governor yoruba would have attacked obi for his statement. hausa will use it in friday sermon and preach to people to respect leaders.
what would igbo do? they are upset but would not say anything about obi, instead they will start complaining about lekki toll gate, about motor park fees at mile 2, about tinubu mansion at ikoyi.

....fvkd up baboons! angry
you're a fool o, what concerns igbo people with what the OP wrote here ? Mr man better face the topic and give relevant arguments or gwan sleep peacefully.

What a country. We so easily get into such euphoria. There is a saying that if we see a masquerade dancing his way into a market centre there is a drummer behind the scene druming some beats to his dance steps. We are too carried away with paint jobs. We have very hard working and committed Nigerians who are willing to serve selflessly, we only pray that God in his infinte mercy will give them chance to serve Nigeria to the greater good of all. Doing what ought to be done is praiseworthy but it is not rocket science. Let eschew this backslapping that can turn a lucky fairly good worker in Government to a mental and actual despot. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Not all that glitters is gold. Up close and personal with shock people.

Fashola should be building more bridges from Island to Mainland to reduce the traffic congestion on 3rd mainland (which is even artificial). He should stop categorizing roads as Federal road. Oshodi-Apapa road is in shambles yet no work has been done because they say it is a federal road.

You need to get off this miserable and pathetic lifestyle of pulling people down.

You said Lagos should be generating its own Power by now? Where were you when Obj hijacked the 250 megawatt plant constructed with Lagos state money and fed it to the national grid. My friend, hope you knew Electricity is on the exclusive list, so direct your anger to the appropriate quarters.

The only IPP project I know was the one constructed along CMS road and was to provide power for street lights around CMS and VI metropolis. I am not frustrated. I pay my taxes never owe a kobo and I demand quality service. Afterall it is my civic right just like it is my civic responsibility to pay my taxes. This is the same government that still receive federal allocation. I want to ask you directly what have you gained from Fashola government? I was at the 2011 Town's Hall Security Forum Meeting where Fashola promised us that Okada will be a thing of the past and that more vehicles would be provided to cater for the public. In 2012 he restricted okada from plying certain roads, no alternatives means of transport was provided. I made a pledge of N10million and deposited to the Security Trust Fund. This 2012 I was invited again and I turned it down because I did not see any improvement nor fulfilment of promises. Fashola is just like every other Nigerian Politicians (NEVER DO WELL POLITICIANS). It hurts when the media blow his trumpet beyond practical words. I know what Private organisations are doing for this State. The little piece of security you are enjoying today is being funded by private organisations. To me Fashola is not working and he better sits up and DO HIS JOB

my brother that's is the modus oprendi of the AC.N paid apologist on nairaland instead of engaging people in meaningful or constructive agruement. They resort in bigotry, abuse and name calling then end it by beating around the bush!! Some of them are soo dumb that they think the FG is responsible for the dilapidated local government roads in the south west.is it not shame that after 14years of AC.N rule in lagos state there is no single public hospital in the whole eti-osa local government.

Personal income tax for all Nigerian citizens? You are speaking absolute rubbish!

Apart from workers in the FCT, the armed forces and a few others, the Feds have no jurisdiction over personal income tax, so keep your lies to yourself.

Besides you impose a tax on gasoline in the name of "subsidy removal" does that change anything.

The alternative is to send Jona and Ngozi's brothers back to Otueke and Ogwashi. The place is too crowded and it has very limited resources to cope with the surge in population.

Let leaders in other places be responsible, that is the solution. If they are responsible, no one will seek to come to Lagos for NYSC! No one will seek to import cars from only Lagos.

Why should we not talk of Jonathan and the brigands in PDP when they created the mess we have in Lagos? If the PDP was more responsible in at least 50% of the states they control, Lagos will thrive. The pressure on social infrastructure and resources will reduce.

I believe this thread should not be a means to trade insults but to open our eyes. I deserve to know why the pipe borne water system in Lagos isn't working. I deserve to know why there are more private buses than public buses in Lagos state. I deserve to know why the traffic lights in Surulere, Ikeja, Vi and Lekki are working and other metropolis ain't working. I deserve to know how much Lagos State Internal Revenue generates on an annually basis and how is the fund distributed. I deserve to know why the quality of education in private schools better than that of public schools. I deserve to know why low cost houses are not been provided. I deserve to know why certain areas in Lagos were decorated and some were not looked upon during this festive period. I deserve to know why are the state doctors striking and not performing their duties.

I deserve to know all these because I was promised and I pay my taxes. These are questions that requires answers and not road repairs which should be done by Local Government Chairmen.

Pipe Borne water works but it is limited. Why? Because resources are not just enough to cater for the crowd. Public schools are over-crowded, why? Because everybody has left otueke for Lagos. Hospitals cannot take care of the growing number of patients, why? Because Ogwashi Ukwu has rejected its own people.

And then you also say you "pay too much tax".

And they do not even get any help from the nuisance in Aso Rock. Apapa Oshodi Expressway has been "on-going" since 2007, yet they never complete am till today.

If the NNPC depots and pipelines were working properly, most of the tankers that kill people in Lagos will be no more. FACT! They park on bridges, they park on highways.

So tell Jona to start working. They should be looking up to him as the number 1 man but as you can see they are already moving because they know he is a joke. He is a blind man crossing Ikorodu Road unaided.
Re: The Truth About Fashola's Success by kolexy(m): 10:47pm On Dec 25, 2012
thelastPope: Big question for these ACN trolls on NL

If Fashola is such a big success in Lagos like their media want us to believe, why did ACN loose several LGAs in the last LGA election to PDP and ACN had to rig it?

SMH at the level of propaganda from these peeps!

If you want to be sincere, then you have to talk in specifics, not this generalised successes you lot talk about.

What has he achieved in:

Education: Lagos schools are worse of today than they were 10 years ago. Dilapidated structures everywhere with not enough teachers and it isnt even free because the students still pay all sorts of fees. In Lagos, it is only the very poor who cant afford private schools that send their children to government schools. In Benin city, which is ironically another ACN state and in which the governor has done less time than Fashola, It is the other way around. People are widthdrawing their children from private schools and sending them to public schools because the public schools are great. Fashola is the only governor in Nigeria and in the history of Nigeria as far as I can recall, that has increased schools fees by over 1000%. He increased LASU school fees from 25k to 250k and as much as 300k for some courses. This is not even imaginable. It is as diabolical it gets. Then when the students protests, he sends in bruttal policemen to chase them away. Many have had to drop out from school because they cant afford it. This is the same guy who said the FG was too high handed by sending the army to Ojota

Do you live in Lagos? Lagos public Schools, especially the Secondary schools are some of the best in Nigeria. The Schools are free, and students get free text books.

Health Care: This one is just humorous. Fashola and ACN in 13 years havent built one new hospital for Lagos. Still the old LUTH and general hospital. No change. Instead, they are praising him for renovating small 30 by 30 maternity centers. centers that where even renovated by MTN foundation, with their sign post conspiciously displayed. His only achievement here was to sack 788 doctors in one day. That is one of the worst administrative blunders in the history of Nigeria. I laughed when I read a previous post that he is a great administrator! Great administrator? Someone whose solution to doctors strike was to sack the whole doctors in the state? Ha! Is that how he will rule Nigeria? The presidential guard will pursue him back to Lagos! lol! If he cannot manage such crisis in one state of Nigeria, how will he manage Nigeria? Those who call GEJ clueless forget that he has continued to manage crisis after crisis and continues to pull everyone along. Love him or hate him, he has continued to hold everything together from North to south.

Have you ever been to Lagos state owned General hospitals at Ikeja, Gbagada, and the others?

Roads: Its about six years now and Fashola cannot point to one major new road built in Lagos. I am still wondering where Lagos allocations go. It is funny that every time some credit is giving to Lagos in terms of facility and infrastructure, some of these ACN peeps quickly shout "Fashola is working" as if the facilities are built by Fashola. Lagos has become a business city powered fully by the private sector. All the infrastructures we enjoy in Lagos are built by the private sector, not Fashola. From the cinemas to shoprite to the various entertainment centers et al. I dont understand how that is Fashola working. Propaganda of course. After adding extra lanes to Lekki, he introduced toll gates to a residential area. I mean, that is a first again in Nigeria. Toll gates in a residential area? Some people go from Lekki area to main VI like 5 times daily and back and they have to pay toll fees each time they pass the road. And when the residents protest peacefully, the response, just like the LASU one, is a bruttal assault by his thugs in alliance with the police. He attacked hapless old men on a peaceful protest, yet some pumpkin heads here want us to believe he is a sane and civil guy. If it was GEJ that bruttalized people like that, these same political and tribal jingoist would not let us hear word on NL! Ridiculous to say the least!

Maybe you are talking about Port Harcourt roads

Water ways: This is just a funny one. Promises and more promises right from Tinubu's time. Nothing has even left the ground. Total failure here. Nothing to talk about

What exactly do you want. You can send a note to the Governor, because you haven't said anything.

Transportation: This to me should have been his biggest achievement, but the ban of Okada has rubbushed it. How? The ban of okada has shown that the BRT project is a failure. Totally inadequate. Doesnt even come close to solving half the problem of Lagos transportation. Now, people are trekking like real villagers that Fashola has turned them into and they are swearing for him while they trek. Lagos is now total chaos. The traffic has escalated like times 4. What Okada ban was supposed to achieve, has turn into a total disaster. 3 to 5 hours now to go from Ikeja to VI or back, gauranteed! The traffic is alraming now! No transport on the road. People wait at the busstop for 2,3 hours trying to get a bus or keke. That is the legacy of a failed administrator who knows nothing of how to manage a metropolitan city. He thinks you can just wave a magic wand and scare everyone into submission. And some propaganda crew here wants us to believe he can manage Nigeria. He tops it up with the enactment of the Lagos traffic law 2012. A draconian law that looks like it was written by arrogant baby lawyers. I have read and re-read the law and it makes for a fine comic relief. many of the laws there will not stand a challenge in court. They are as draconian as it gets and many parts of that law contradicts the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. The late Gani would have made a piece meal of it!

Have you ever led a group before, not to talk of managing a state of 16 million residents in the smallest state in Nigeria.

Public Amenities: Another big zero! Lagos, after 13 years of ACN rule, still doesnt have public water. I mean in 2012, you cannot open your tap and get clean portable water. You cannot even get unclean water, with all the water in Lagos. A city where you dig only 5 feet in some places and hit water, you cannot get pipe borne water in your house. Yet the state government collects all sorts of taxes like there is no tomorrow. I dont know how a government that cannot even provide something as basic as public water is considered fit to rule Nigeria. Only sychophants would endorse that!

After 13 years of ACN rule, Lagos still reminds me of the movie, slum dog millionaire! That movie should have been shot in Lagos. Would really fit! Fahosla is like a doctor who rubs skin lotion on a sore and closes his eye lid tightly, believing that when he opens his eyes, the sore would have been completely gone. That is what he did in places like Oshodi. He brought in bulldozers and task force agberos and chased everyone away and celebrated the clearing and cleaning of Oshodi. But he forgot that the dirt in Oshodi were created by a depraved and down trodden masses. So by clearing the dirt and not alleviating the plight of the depraved masses, he only rubbed body lotion over a bad sore. Now Oshodi is fast becoming like it was before. And several more Oshodis are springing up. Like Egbeda, Ketu, Ikorodu, Ojodu Berger and many more are becoming the new Oshodi because the problem was never solved. It just got replicated! Please if you want to talk about Fashola's achievements, talk specifics and we would take you serious. as for specifics, they are not impressive. They are all wash! Propaganda at its best. The strategy is simple. Do a project with 1 million naira and promote it with 100 million naira. Fashola will be a very good music artist manager in Nigeria!

I don't know what you want, but it is evident this is about 2015. Why are you spreading falsehood? We keep promoting mediocrity, yet we expect our country to move forward. Ok GEJ is best President in the world, and Amaechi/Uduaghan, Theodor Oji, and Peter Obi are the best governors.

I don laugh sotire laugh tire me grin grin... The HYPOCRISY of the resident ACN Goons demanding PERFECTION from GEJ for the mess he inherited UNDER 2 YEARS while making EXCUSES for Fash who has ruled for 6yrs (who I like personally), has been very thoroughly EXPOSED.

I am actually commenting on this thread so that I can have it on my Post History. Great thread from @lastpope..

This is the kind of trash that you lot spread around! Doesnt more population translate into more money? Why does Lagos state have to much IGR and other states have meagers resources? because of the same population you are talkign about dumbo!

Population is an advantage, not a disadvantage and Lagos state is certainly enjoying the advantage by milking everyone from the common street traders to the billionaires. So dont tell us crap that hospitals and schools aint enough because of population. That is just nonsense! if these people all move out of Lagos state, how will you generate 30 billion naira IGR? From the Lagoon? if all the non-indegenes move out of Lagos state, Lagos will have less than the population of Ekiti state. The business and status of Lagos is a function of its population. Go back to school my friend! Funny dud!

thelastPope: Big question for these ACN trolls on NL

Water ways: This is just a funny one. Promises and more promises right from Tinubu's time. Nothing has even left the ground. Total failure here. Nothing to talk about

@ op am sure ur father is an okada rider cus a normal lagosian has no problem with fashola up lagos up ACN eko oni baje ooo

First and Foremost, are you a tribalist? If you are that is truly sick. There would be migration to cities because people are seeking better quality of lives and that does not stop the government from providing services. Many cities in the world are faced with these issues and it does not stop them from providing basic social infrastructure because they plan, they do their VALUE FOR MONEY ANALYSIS. You have answered the questions, a government who does not carry out proper planning, especially Lagos, will fail. We should not blame this on the Military, we have had democracy for 14 years and all I see is mediocrity. We have mediocres at the helm of affairs.

On a serious note (@ballabriggs), please act like an intelligent person and if you ain't, then act like a matured person. A tribalist is also a racist and a racist is also .......... (you can complete it)

BOOO!!! More population translates to more money if they pay their taxes accordingly and not for people who do not even have a meaningful job. It will be an advantage if it is at an optimal stage, however, what Lagos has today is a crowd milking the social infrastructure and resources dry. It is at a sub-optimal stage!!!

I am not from Lagos and I am not a yoruba man so please stick that your tribalism yarn away abeg. What I want is to reduce the pressure on Lagos.

The more Lagos does, the more problem it gets. Why? Because as it improves social infrastructure, more and more people flood into the state in search of that which is not available elsewhere.

Roads in the SS and SE are nothing to write home about. Why? Because Jona and Ngozi dey chop N5 trillion.
