Please fellow NLanders, Please my people, what's happening with the appointment date? Has any one booked any appointment lately? Why is everything so difficult nowadays, i think i prefer the old website. Was trying to book an appointment for my cousin and its just saying ERROR:ERROR, please help, don't know if anyone is facing the same problem. He's going for fall and all his docs are ready since End of May and yet haven't gotten a date for him, please help about this. Anywhere will be appreciated, Lagos or Abuja,

@ HOUSE: I need advice and help from all. I am using my dad's company statement (company sponsorship). He works in the company as the general manager. I cannot use his bank statement because the money there is not enough at all. I have the company's statements and they are good, original. But presenting company's statement is a red flag, as I have read on this thread. What can I do? I really need help,

@ Debbie @Adedayo: CONGRATS. We'll join you soon.

if ur dad owns the company, then ure good as long as u can show that the company is ur dad's and there is enuf money in d acc, But if ur dad is just an employee of the company, i wouldnt advise u to go wit company acc then cos the v.o would definitely ask you '' what does the company have to gain by paying millions of naira to sponsor the son of an employee'',
My advise to u is that you should try and get another bank statement(including confirm sponsors letter) and say that the owner is ur uncle or u shld pray hard that they wont ask you for financial records,
Nothing is impossible for God,

@dizifrenzy: Thank you for the advice. The problem now is getting another bank statement. Do you know of anything convincing I can say to the v.o? Please post your email add so I can send u an email. I need to be guided. Also, does it matter if I change the bank statement from the one I submitted to the school for I-20?

Guys help, after I was told by my graduate coordinator that I have been recommended for admission into the department, I have not yet hear from the international student office. I called the prof who says it maybe that they are still working on it and that he will mail them. Still not hear from them. All these happen since last week. What can I do to this? Still wait so that I don't disturb them too much?

USBound,
You certainly should not use a company's financial documents simply because your father works as a manager in the company. If you do, you will have to defend questions related to what the company stands to gain from sponsoring you or why would the company sponsor you. One of the grounds on which I think you may present the company's documents is if you are able to defend that you are on scholarship. It is no news that companies offer scholarships to children of members of staff. You mentioned you do not have any other bank documents to use. Since you are able to get the company's financial documents, I suggest you explore getting further documents from the same company to strongly defend your case.

As for the I-20 thing, it depends on what information is on the I-20 that your school gives to students. If you have the name of your sponsor written on your I-20, you may want to use same sponsor's financial documents. In my case, I had my sponsor's name on it.

@ Waryz you need not worry about the the money being, personally i see as a good one for you. If i were you and was asked by the VO, i could simply say the fund was specifically invested for my education.

Contact the international Office and/or the admissions office of your school directly. The grad coord would have concluded his part in the admissions process.

good people of nl. I wanna ask a que, directed especially to those who r in d u.s
while at the port of entry, do they check the contents of peoples laptops?.
Am asking this becos i read it somewhere that they could check the contents of laptops and if they find porn or pirated software, it could be trouble. But lets face it, my laptop has no licensed software cos the windows 7 ultimate i installed was bought for N200, my microsoft office was bought for N150 and so on, Can anyone advise me or is there anyth to worry about??
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by anfanio: 1:29am On Jun 30, 2011
It all depends on the circumstances at the point of entry, but the chances are slim. I can however assure you that those softwares will stop functioning sooner than later.

Bros, those guys do not have any business with your laptop. In the process of checking you, they may find your laptop. But I don't think they will ask you to switch it on, UNLESS they are suspecting you for something else. International Airports are always busy, and many people always travel with laptops or other devices. You think they will ask everyone to switch all those devices on? If they try that, they will not be able to clear everyone on time. So, never mind.

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by masepat: 3:05am On Jun 30, 2011
dizyfrenz,
What officers at the POE check is mainly if you have legal right to come into the country. Possibly, they may want to check if you have anything illegal with you by asking if you have food items. You don't need anybody to tell you what your answer should be wink. Asking you to turn on your pc would be way too far!

to everyone that answered my que abt the laptop thing, Thanks very much, God bless you
@cleverdude
if u are asked how many universities you applied to, say three. You ll be asked to list them and they ll ask how many admits. You should tell him the truth. From what i saw at d embassy on my own day, it doesnt matter how many admits u got. They just wanna know if youre serious about studying in d u.s by applying to several schools but
where d v.o might wanna raise an eyebrow would be if you choose a college over a university. Then you ll have to do some convincing there.

@dizyfrenzy, I did some google research about d difference btween a uni n college,n i got 2 know dat in US there's no difference infact dey r synonymous: At times,colleges r better than unis over there. I think i'll try to put it that way if i'm being asked, BUT I PRAY I'M NOT GONNA BE ASKED ABOUT IT.

my dear college or uni, it does not really matter but some VO might asked you why u did not apply to a uni, were there is a problem is id you apply to a 2yr college thats were you will have a problem. but all i have to tell you is this be prayerful cos their is noting God can not do. To tell you i was asked that question by the VO after that they asked me how many school i applied. with God all things are possible. Good luck to you all

@cleverdude
when they ask you how many schools you applied to, tell them three and be ready to show prove that you did really applied to the schools you mentioned to them. if u exchange mails with the school concerning your admission status then print them even if they did not offer you admission but it will play as prove that you really applied to the school. they might also ask you why you applied to those school. just do all you have to do and leave others to oluwa.

It has to do with post generally. People's post sometimes could be annoying particularly in the romance section. That was why I wrote it in my comment.
