Though I understand the rationale behind OP's idea..however,I think that such a law would be quite too extreme. There are bound to be a number of people out there who graduated with a 3rd class or pass, but possess sharp intellect in specific areas. The university system itself is frankly not helping matters; some people cannot just do "la cram,la pour",but the way some courses are taught in Nigeria requires a student to be able to cram as much as he/she can. In Universities like Unilorin, you can stay on the queue for 5-7 hours under the scorching sun just to write your CBT exam!,under such conditions, you get too tired to even care about the exam questions when you finally get into the hall, you just want to do your exam and get out as fast as possible to get rest. There are even cases of missing results and disproportionate awarding of marks. By and large, these arent excuses to justify failure, but it cant be omitted. What Nigeria needs is a working system, only then will the unserious ones be weeded out. 4 Likes |

Doriana2:one thing you seem to forget is that a BSc is not a prerequisite to becoming a senator, president or governor. There is a reason for this. Go figure out. The last time I checked, Bsc or its equivalent is not also a prerequisite to becoming a registrar in a federal University. 1 Like 1 Share |

TonyeBarcanista:Many of the examples you stated were average leaders at best e.g Zuma, Amaechi. You keep comparing average with poor and making it sound good. There is a direct correlation with good governance and excellent performance in school (with a few exceptions). It would be immoral to obfuscate that fact with a few examples of some average leaders. 6 Likes |

gaddafe:My point is that IT SHOULD BE A PREREQUISITE! Along with educational achievements we should also look at life achievements. As citizens we deserve the best. It's puzzling why we seem comfortable with school cert holders as presidents and senators. 3 Likes |

TonyeBarcanista:A few exceptions does not make it right. What do you have against selecting leaders who have performed excellent academically? With how bad things have become in this country, we should from this moment on totally scrutinize the achievements of those who want to lead. 1 Like |

@OP I don't envy you at all. Citing your submissions, it's obvious that you know what education is, but unfortunately you don't understand what the same education means. Well, for your information, some people are so unorthodox in nature that they lack the perseverance and obedience it takes to acquire formal tertiary education or come out with good grades when they have the slightest of patience to enrol into one. Therefore, it's a taboo to quantify someone's level of intelligence based on her formal academic possessions. Some of the best/resourceful brains I have been fortunate to associate with in the cause of my journey in life are mostly informally educated folks. Take for instance, someone like Dino, without holding brief for him, I stand bold to say that he's one among the five most resourceful members in the current senate. This is despite his class of degree. Formal tertiary education at best can help one that acquired it "thoroughly" to be brilliant. And by extension, it helps to gloss people's ignorance. Intelligence is mostly self-developed through self and continuous education. . . And the education here is always informal. Intelligence is superior to brilliance. . . All intelligent people are brilliant but not all brilliant people are intelligent. In the same vein, understanding is superior to knowing (knowingness). Just as knowledge is superior to information. 15 Likes |
