jamela: Could anyone pls inform me on the best way to transport my tv to the uk? Is it best to use a courier or just tag along with it to the airport and book extra luggage? If I use the second option, do I have to worry abt duty fees at the airport and I hope tv license ppl would not try tracking me to my house as I'm yet to get accomodation and don't want to be asked to provide one at POE.

bring TV into the UK?
unless your TV is worth more than £5k, don't even bother. sell it in naija & use the proceeds to get another one here.

Please, ur palm oil might be seized at the airport. Except u have other clandestine ways of packing it eg. Freezing it, then you may end up buying palm oil for those customs guys.

There are somethings you should not bother bringing along bcuz they have better ones that are not expensive here e.g detergent, salt, soap(local black soap no dey here oh grin),spaghetti, groundnut oil, sardine and polish. its just an advise to save you from extra lugage

Basically, all small liquid contents (perfume etc.) should be packed in your checking bags
polish
perfume
indomie
shoe
spaghetti
rice
beans
garri

You can get these quite cheap here, but all your choice
gesha
sardine
soap
detergent
salt

You won't find good/tasty maggi here. Atleast, i haven't
maggi

You'll pass through with these ones if you're lucky.......Like me
But people advice you freeze them. I personally, just wrapped my honey with thick nylons and packed in the checking bag.

palm oil
groundnut oil

The main people that will give you problems would be Nigerian immigration. Most people don't get searched in the UK POE

Also, you forgot crayfish and smoked fish grin
Send us the address of your restaurant when you get here o grin

If he's unlucky and goes thru the "nothing to declare" and they actually call him for a search, that may be a problem when they see frozen palm oil

You made a mistake o. You should have paid it with your Nigerian card.
Well, if he must take it in pounds, you have to exchange your naira and send it to him through bank.

You can also use the services of individual money transfer and exchangers as they're a bit cheaper.
I know of one here on nairaland, bebe2, i think.

Pls, note that i have never used her services, therefore i am not endorsing her, neither is this a guarantee.

But she has been on nairaland for long and was a regular on this section.

Greetings to the great people here. I have been following this thread for sometime now. Great job oga justwise, spikesC, etc. I came into the UK on monday via Lufthansa after a brief stop at Frankfurt. Lufthansa is cool, will recommendhere. It anytime any day. Brought in some foodstuffs and luckily my bag wasn't searched, both in Naija and at the POE. Brighton is a quiet and lovely city, gradually settling down. Lectures and seminars have been great. Trust God to make the best out of my stay here.
