Politics › Re: The Cost Of Transportation After Subsidy Removal by 2mch(m): 12:53am On Jan 02, 2012
for the removal of subsidy, minimum wage must be increased to N36k. Chikena. Or else, no amount of security vote or mossad can protect the government. 1 month is even too much to suffer the effects. The government with all the corruption is simply incapable to making this work. I am happy because this is the catalyst for a new Nigeria. The looters and theives have finally outdone themselves this time. Instead of cutting their salaries they will rather dip their hands into the pockets of the already struggling and dying Nigerian. cry tongue

i cannot imagine people buying pms at 140 per litre and burning the same in the mad traffic gridlock along lekki express, Agege, Ikotun, Ipaja all around lagos. How will you feel when you buy 20 liter of pms, burn in in traffic gridlock, and when you get home, you don't even have up to 5 litres left in your tank.

In advanced countries where pms is sold as high as between 150 to 200 per litre, they have very good roads network that in less than 20 mins drive you are in your home or anywhere you want to go within the city.

There are good rail (in fact luxury rail transportation for that matter) which can et you to your destination within minutes, what do we have herehuhhuhhuh?

Noffin bro, just silly roads which are even claiming peoples life on a daily basis.

Com'on lets face the fact, is our govt handling things the way it should handled.

At least if people cannot afford to fuel your car all week, you have alternative means of getting around their businesses or to your offices.

What are we talking abouthuhhuhhuh this govt should be shut down until they learn how to do things the right way.
Funny how you are trying to convince a GEJ agent who gets free petrol and have had their incomes padded to prevent this event. Stop arguing. Enough of the talk, it is time to show them that Nigerians elected them and the populace owns Nigeria and will decide its direction.
Politics › Re: Keeping Them Honest: List Of Gej Campaign Promise(no Fuel Subsidy) by 2mch(m): 12:27am On Jan 02, 2012
And people expect this move to generate some kind of miracle. Please someone remind me what promise he has kept or fulfilled. It is time for him to step down. I think he has come to teach Nigerians a lesson not to vote on sentiment but content of what the leader can bring to the table. A leader that acts in the best interest of his people and rises above greed, corruption and party politics. He has shown that he doesnt know the meaning of all this. Government has been grossly incapable of doing anything sucessfully. Lets take a look at the failure that is NNPC and then we can see where we are heading to. It is time for Nigerians to put an end to the lawmakers overbloated salaries, and the sheer disregard for law and Nigerians by GEJ
Politics › Re: Fuel Subsidy Removed - Full Transcript Of Press Release From The Pppra by 2mch(m): 12:17am On Jan 02, 2012
hahahaha, fresh mess is soon going to be replaced with the real fresh air. No matter what you agents of GEJ are saying, people are already feeling the pains and they are angry. This act of cowardice by a government not even listening to the people or imforming them of its plans is alarming. Nigerians must stand up against this rubbish once and for all. All the Nigerian government knows how to do is steal. They are not even smart enough to cut the over bloated salaries. So while they have adjusted their own salaries for this change, Nigerians will suffer while they still get petrol and other basic services for free at the expense of every Nigerian. This is ridiculous.

hahahaha, Beaf aka dmainboss aka werepeleri

This guy is just lying up and down this thread. This spin doctor is at work again in full force. Nigerians listen well and listen good, PDP does not care about you. This subsidy money is probably to revive the depleted excess reserves. Nothing like a working refinery will happen now or in the nearest future. Just take a look at the bridge joining the east to the west which has taken so many lives. The contracts that have been allocated to that small project over the years. Take a look at the Ogun- Ore road, nothing has been done and so many lives lost. Do you think PDP is capable of handling a big responsibility, when they cannot resolve something as small as roads or bridges. You people should keep deceiving yourselves. You are all in for it, except you fight for your right. The government should only remove subsidy when it has an alternative. This money will be stolen and looted. Just like the billions recovered from Abacha. You better rise up and join the protest. wink

Where did you get that from? The following African countries all have extended credit facilities: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Niger, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Togo, etc which are all at zero rates of interest if they pay before maturity while Greece, Iceland, Ireland, and a host of other European countries are servicing Standby Arrangements (SBA) that all carry slightly higher interest rates than what can be obtained in money markets. I am sure you have seen all the protests and riots in Greece, Ireland, Portugal because of IMF conditions for the loans to those countries.
In an economic crisis, countries often need financing to help them overcome their balance of payments problems. Since its creation in June 1952, the IMF’s Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) has been used time and again by member countries, it is the IMF’s workhorse lending instrument for emerging market countries. Rates are non-concessional, although they are almost always lower than what countries would pay to raise financing from private markets. The SBA was upgraded in 2009 to be more flexible and responsive to member countries’ needs. Borrowing limits were doubled with more funds available up front, and conditions were streamlined and simplified. The new framework also enables broader high-access borrowing on a precautionary basis.

The Extended Credit Facility (ECF) provides financial assistance to countries with protracted balance of payments problems. The ECF succeeds the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) as the Fund’s main tool for providing medium-term support LICs, with higher levels of access, more concessional financing terms, more flexible program design features, as well as streamlined and more focused conditionality
http://www.imf.org/external/about/lending.htm
Streamlined and focused conditionality. I am sure they never expose their lending conditions and terms with each country. If they do, i would like access to this information to compare those given to so called emerging markets vs poor countries which Africa mostly falls under.

I want to reproduce a post I made recently with regards to the IMF. Any nation leaning towards the IMF/WB is already in trouble and it is simply naive to blame the woes of such nations on the IMF. Having said that, there have been nations such as the UK that have repaid their loans. And not all loans carry heavy interest rates; it all depends on the duration of the loans. There are facilities such as extended credit facility, standby credit facility, etc that carry zero rates if loans are repaid within 10 and 8 years respectively. The problem usually is that, most countries are so indebted that they will require loan facilities for longer periods, thereby triggering the IMFs SAP.

Now I am not about to absolve the IMF or world bank of any wrongdoing.

The IMF and World Bank are lenders of last resort. When a sovereign nation goes to the IMF, it is because it doesn't have a choice. The IMF and WB will come in and ask the nation to implement a series of programs that is supposed to make the nation leaner and meaner. Afterall, if there was good management in the first place, you wouldn't approach the IMF or WB. The perception of the IMF or WB in most countries where the IMF mandated these programs is usually bad because the citizenry will usually face austere measures. Unfortunately most of the countries that have faced these austere measures are third world countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. But there are rich world examples as well.

You don't have to go far for rich world examples. Greece, Portugal and Ireland are all implementing IMF mandated Austere measures. The UK, one of the founders, of those institutions had to implement Austere measures in the 1970s. The top rate of tax in the UK was 83% because the Labour governments of Harold Wilson and James Callaghan were profligate. The IMF demanded cuts to public spending and a tax rise because the UK applied for a loan of $4 Billion. Even when Thatcher reduced the top rate to 60% in 1979, she introduced stealth taxes to plug the reduced revenue.

The citizens will feel the effect of IMF policies regardless of whether the policies are implemented correctly or not. The IMF or WB is similar to a loan shark. If you owe money to a loan shark, you can't be sending your kids to the choicest schools and buying fur coats for the wife. The loan shark will demand that you only keep enough to feed your family and put a roof over their heads. If you drive a BMW, he will demand that you sell it and buy a skoda.

Having said all these, I am not ruling out IMF complicity in political intrigues.
Okay, all you did is define the IMF and World Bank. Now can you comment on the topic? Do you want to tell us that the G7, including the Euro Zone will not get favorable lending terms than some african country? The duration of the loan is simply not the only factor on the rate of the loan given. Othe rmeasures are taken into consideration. These measures already make African countries vulnerable to being taken advantage of and being given loans with a high rate of defult which enslaves these countries. IMF and World Bank, no matter the "good" their intentions, their policies simply will never favor african countries. We are where we are because of their "concern", and numerous policies. So i call Bullsh*it on them this time.

Congratulations to you and happy new year. cheesy

@OP

It is a fact that whatever you profess with your mouth, especially when you continuously do so it begins to manifest itself in your life. The mind interprets what ever we believe and it becomes part of our life. The mind is a very powerful force. That is why we must speak positivity into our lives every day. When we do so, we have faith and belief and can move mountains. The tongue is a very dangerous organ. This is why i avoid negative people, it is infectious. I have heard somewhere that when you say negative things or profess negative things on yourself or your life some demons are somewhere saying "Amen". kiss

Politics › Re: Reuters Report : The Fuel Subsidy Removal Is Imf Policy For Africa ! by 2mch(m): 10:25pm On Dec 31, 2011
Every developed country has subsidies. Subsidies are not a bad thing when done right and in a transparent manner. If the price of the good is going to be too expensive for the citizens then the government subsidizes the good. With Most Nigerians living on less than 1 dollar a day, subsidy is justified. Until we get the refineries working and improve the standard of living to where people can afford this good, fuel subsidy is going no where. The government has failed at its job and it must either work to correct it or pay for it. IMF can go and shoot themselves right between the eyes.  angry

This is a good move, but let them start recruiting educated people and give equal opportunity to each zone. All new recruits should also be prepared for management and senior official positions. They must also take exams which they must pass befor ebecoming officers. This is apart from the physical training of course. There are a lot of unemployed youths, so the job package should be humane and attractive to the new recruits. smiley

Well this is a good opportunity for the state government to secure the area with high voltage fences. People are not supposed to be living under any structure or infrastructure. What about in the event of a collapse or a car that flies over the bridge? More casualties than a fire. Fashola shoul really start implementing policies to stop people trooping into lagos like this. This is so inhumane. All that free, free stuff he is throwing about will attract more of this. Lagos is simply too small for this.

See Buzugee with agege market gossip. Na wa, you just sit down all day and formulate this theory.  huh. Let me get it to you simply and decipher this whole thing for you. Hausa and Fulani are and have always been foreign stooges, to maintain power. This BH is political, for people who have a certain agenda. Some elements have predicted 2015, and they are working towards it. A united Nigeria is a threat to the world. If we get stronger we can actually stop african countries from being pilfered and violated. We are the largest and potentially strongest black nation in the world. That is a threat. Divided we fall, united we stand. Boko Haram are following some political aspirations of certain elements, it may be the arab world, it may be others. No be me talk am, but you get the whole jist. It is up to Nigerian's to stand and fight, and get our seat and respect on the world stage. Not inviting this same elements trying to tear us apart to succeed.  undecided
