Kiakia:That is exactly my thinking, premeditated. Most easterners wanted this to be resolved peacefully when the governors and leaders started meetings with him. Since his case was in court and the AGF has prepared the case for the cancellation of the bail granted to him. Why will Buhari who believes and swore to the rule of law send the military after him. That is jumping the court processes. This is to affirm what the guy said that the military want to kill him. How then will the government hold the sureties accountable. Nigeria is really a theatre of absurdities. Our government is good in creating confusion. |
If Kanu goes underground today it's no different from what the likes of Tinubu, Dele momodu and others did during the clamp down on pro democracy struggle. Today Abiola is death but Tinubu is still relevant in the affairs of things in Nigeria. Were they cowards? You can judge. Its just unfortunate that Nigeria as a people have refused to learn from the past to know that the only way to remain one peaceful people is to engage ourselves either as individuals or a group on dialogue. If our peaceful coexistence is not tested today, it will certainly be tested in the future, if our constitution is not put to test today it will certainly be put to test in the future if things continue the way they are today. To borrow from Reno omokri, that when you have a hammer every problems looks like a nail. I expected a better leadership from Buhari and his bunch of legislators and governors. What is the worth of life of a Nigerian. It's basically worthless. People are been killed any how and the government that we all surrender all to also turned against the people. IPod issue is no issue, all it required is the government to show stronger argument and not force, how come biafran issue has not died since the war. It is better to see and know what the IPOD group is doing for they to go under ground like the radio kudirat because then the hate speech will increase and we might have multiple groups. |
There cannot be peace without equity. It is not whether you support NK or Buhari, it is about being fair in our decision, speech and action. Biafran agitation is something of the mind, which also required a stronger argument to overcome. The government is not presenting this to the average youth in the SE but prefer to intimidate using federal might which is very unfortunate. When election campaign start you'll see this set of political grabbers including the presidency leaving their high horses to meet the common man on the street. Now that we all need inspiring leadership, what do we have? A set of people lacking the ability for conflict resolution. When are we going to leave sentiment and face issues objectively. When are we going to resolve the issues that continue to set us apart? |
That is their problem. Humans have the ability to discern what is good or bad. You can't blame churches for the evil on earth. Man 's heart is full of evil. Man will always look for something to blame and not self. Now they blaming churches. Just as we blame everything and everybody on nairaland. How come is getting worst on daily basis, greed and covetousness. Does the holy book, the bible, encourage this actions? The answer is No. |
Abagworo:Please be civil and mind you language. We may disagree on some issues but should not warrant abusive tendencies. For me I don't care which party he belongs to, my concern is leadership. Inspiring and people oriented leadership. Period. |
moninuola65:Because he has failed on his campaign promises. He came in with a huge propaganda, disparaged the last governor and failed to complete all the projects he embarked on. Would you expect his people to clap for him? He promised job through industry, industry and industry. Most projects he executed were half measured. This is not to say that he did not have some little successes. |
GoroTango:What is the essence of federal character system in Nigeria? Is not to encourage unity in the country through equity and fair play. Does is it say any where that if a president did not get overwhelming vote from a region he or she is at liberty to exclude them from key government positions?Deprive them of key infrastructures? We need to wake up in this country and do the right thing. Listen to the people you lead no matter how unreasonable there opinion may be to you. That is democracy. I do not support NK in totality but any one who will peacefully challenge our present system of doing things which have not helped to move this country forward, I will support. Unfortunately there is no single person today except NK. The only way to erase sectional agitation is to instill justice, equity and fair play, by sound leadership with the ability bring the people together by words and action and not threats. The Ipod people have shown that they can die for their believe can you die for Nigeria? can most people here die for Nigeria? |
linearity:No matter how you evaluate the future economic earning of the project, how does this improve the real estate and infrastructural development in Akwa Ibom. It is gross stupidity to ever think of the project let alone awarding the contract. This clearly shows that the governor is not in tune with the desires of the good people of Akwa Ibom. Well this is our Nigeria where anything can happen. |
Now that the sheriff is back, can we move forward please. |
ofwest47:We all crave for a better society, but no one will give you a better society if you don't fight for right. No one will give you your right, if you don't stand up for it. Over the years Nigerians have been quiet and that is why we are where we are today, no body is coming out to ask questions on the fundamental issues of our nationhood. Since the death of Gani, and to some extent, Fela has any one stood up to fight for any issue concerning you and I, devoid of political and ethnic coloration? The Obvious answer is NO. In your own estimation, everybody should keep shut and complain in our private home. In a true democratic setting everybody is entitled to a voice whether in support of popular line or against. People need to understand this especially in the North. I don't want to go further into the issue of the popularity of Charly's protest, that is another issue. |
The Arewa quit notice call is a blessing in disguise if and only the investing Igboman will understand. This should show them how fragile this country can be. I really feel sorry for some of them when they boast of properties in a country, whose unity is based not on equity and justice but rather on properties invested outside one's region. I have seen lots of them buy up swamps in Lagos and turn them to firm lands. I have seen them buy and develop lands in the less developed areas and wait for good roads and electricity to come forth while lands are begging for development in the eastern cities. A word is a enough for the wise. |
Timi go ahead and help your son discover his hidden talent. Provide the child with platform to find his destiny. There are graduate footballers out there even in the EPL e.g nedum onuoha. Some of us could not exploit our hidden talent because our parent were like book, book and book. Lots of discouragement and today some are not truly satisfied with where they end up because it could have been more fulfilled achieving it in sport. The problem is that there no good or enough academies in Nigeria because of our bad system, no sponsorships, no encouragement from the govt, or society. So the few kids, mostly from poor homes end up starting from the street and this has it's limits to what a child can learn. Look for a good academy and register your boy if he shows some skills, the earlier the better. I know my own son will continue from where I stopped. Tomorrow will tell. Good luck |
TundeHashim:Agreed, Good governance and Fed capital status helped to make Lagos what it is today. Truly it will be difficult to convince the people of the SE/SE that there are no deliberate policy to kill development in that region and especially with the port. While it was a deliberate policy to make Lagos a Fed Capital and also Abuja, why is it difficult to deliberately pursue development in the ND area which could help open up that area to the world. The non conducive business environment is as a result of long term neglect, and can be corrected by deliberate actions by the FG in conjunction with the states. Beyond rhetoric, does those "powers" have the will to do that? |
TundeHashim:Policy can be implied, those national asset were built for a reason and managed by federal government, how come those in south south are mismanaged and the only one in Lagos is well managed. No rail system at least, from Lagos to the SS/SE to move industrial materials and machinery. Goods are moved about on bad roads. From our elementary economics, industries will always be sited at a place where low cost can be achieved in terms of raw material, man power, population, distribution channel etc. Have you wondered why every fresh graduate want to come to Lagos and swell the population in Lagos? why not sokoto, Ebonyi or bayelsa. Have you notice how Lagos is rubbing on Ogun state. As for Biafran issue, as Prof Wole Soyinka correctly pointed out, it's an Ideology thing in the mind of every true Igbo person. Kanu, good or bad as he comes took advantage of that, fueled by inequality and injustices in the system. As for Jerry Igbokwe, let him tell us what investment he has brought to Igbo land, what contributions he has made towards improving his town in the east with all his connections. Nobody needs his long story of how he struggled to become successful, because struggle to success is the life of any average Nigerian but only a very small size are fortunate to have that kind of connection that made him. He should keep quiet and stop insulting his tribe. |
Nigeria's First Lady, Her Excellency Aisha Mohammadu Buhari, said on Thursday 3rd August said the unity of the country was not negotiable....... Then advice your husband do the right thing. There is need for equity and justice for all. |
wawappl:They should at least provide for evidence sake, the monthly remittance schedule for Lagos and a receipt to back the totals. Mostly likely, they don't get audited by LIRS(not in the tax net) or settle their way out. |
Lagos state government should develop a better system to bring more people in the informal sector to tax. While the formal sectors remains the highest contributor to tax (PAYE, WHT, etc) in Lagos, the government should be careful on putting so much declaration activities on them. Annual projection was submitted during the annual filing for 2016, why request for another half year projection for 2017. May been I am missing something. |
ikorodureporta:But Nigerians, just like Obasanjo will not accept him. He is too futuristic and intelligent that many will not understand him. |
0b100100111:Nothing like him in terms of what? common, the man is a politician and there is no permanent enemy but permanent interest in politics. If he is that good in terms of leadership in the mind of Nigerians, then Imo state should have been the fasting growing state in Nigeria. During his campaign he promised heaven and earth. Through his power of oratory described how he will turn Imo state around. And today what has he done? nothing long lasting. If Okorocha cannot better the life of Imo people, how will he do that nationally. Think about it. |
OLUJOSHINS:I understand your position, but it can't continue that way for ever. Something need to done by the people and the various party reps in the state. The people are not doing enough to vote and protect their votes. These politicians use youths within community and the communities know them. |
This should be the kind of movement the people require to change the political and leadership landscape in the east. This should be backed by active participation by the people in choosing their representatives, vote and protect your vote. No true election has happened in Abia since 1999, it's all been compromised by rigging and the strongest rigger takes power. |
erinalex:How does the news of stoning Orji relates to Igbo being a confused people. For once why not acknowledge the fact that some people has shown displeasure on a thief as examples that the Abia don't accept corrupt people. |
mobaking:Because they are now in a different country. Go down to these countries especially the African countries you will still find this desire, affinity and recognition to their tribe or race. |
Nobody here is asking the right questions rather people a busy talking ethnic trash when it is well known that crime has no ethnic colour. When you go the east, there are so many road blocks manned by police and military personnel yet crime is so high why? Okorocha talked about taking governance to the local people by means of community government and based on some of these theories the gullible ones voted him in, today what is happening? Can he Okorocha compare the rate of crime in the state to any of the other eastern states? Prevention is better than cure. What is he doing to ensure that the crime rate in the state is reduced to the minimum as the chief security officer of the state? |
ollybelleza:Don't mind the busy bodies. That ATM point has been there for years. Akilo road as it is do not having any banking facility, it made great sense to have that machine strategically placed there for people buying vehicle spare parts and for security purpose. Please moderator look else where for your news. |
Mille:Sign now when the price is low and loan him out and see how it works out. with players price sky rocketing, arsenal will have to payer more later to have him. For God sake this guy has proven he score goal and he can only get better with time. |
Nice words from Osibanjo, but it all ends there. As I have always asked, shouldn't our present situation make the present leadership seek to correct the anomalies inherent in our political and leadership system. Shouldn't we begin to look at the constitution and the issue of unity as it relates to agreement by concerned parties rather than coercive and ambiguous set up we have now. Self determination is one of the basic items of the UN charter but it must also be done on laid down rules, telling a group of people that they must stay in Nigeria is not legally or moral right, because that is how anarchy and social disturbance starts. There is great job to be done on the part of the government and the agitators. On government part, convince the agitators to leave their agitation and show goodwill in policy and governance, let it be seen that something is done and not just threat and political statements. The agitators are expected to follow the due process of peaceful agitation and also open to peaceful dialogue. It's well known that the Igbos have been active participant in developing communities across Nigeria by means of trade, and in the process attracted envy and scorn. If there is no desire or believe in Nigeria would they have developed other places to the detriment of their home land? Nigerians need to be careful and civil in their utterances. GBN |
Sagay212:Unfortunately you don't know who you are talking about, I will not generalize or insult people on tribal or religious or political issues. Democracy, we chose as a type government allows for freedom of speech, association but also hold individuals or groups accountable. You totally miss the point I am making. The Nigerian unity is a contentious issue and need to be resolved for us move forward. What you and I should be doing on this platform is to brainstorm on fundamental issues which have affected our daily lives, and may also affect the unborn if no proactive actions is taken now. The lack of Leadership skills will be the bane of Nigerian youths because pettiness seem to have taken a better part of them. Not everyone of the Igbo stock liked his comment, or approach. Kanu and his supporters verbally attacked everyone including some Igbos. |
vannessa7:Why so much hatred? What has an average Igbo person done to you or your environment. If I recall comment from various leaders across the country, they have acknowledged the positive and resilient nature of these people in any community where they are domicile. So what in particular have they done to warrant so much hatred. Calling for their own country? let be fair to one another, is Nigeria with all the natural and human resources where it should be? Do Nigerians really love one another? Should any Nigerian live and invest in any location and still be worried of what might happen to him or her? If Nigerians like you can't take advantage of the crisis we having now to redress the unity of this country then don't blame those calling for a pull out as an option. We either get out of it victorious as one big country or victorious as smaller countries. |
It obvious that the southerners and most especially the Igbo have severely borne the brunt of One Nigeria by always losing human and investments any time there is any disturbance in the core north even when not directly or indirectly caused by the southerners. It is better that the Igbo in the northern should begin to reconsider their stay in the north. Period. We are not yet that country where everyone's right is protected, allowing yourselves to be sacrificed on the alter of "One Nigeria" is a waste. If they don't attack you today, they will in the nearest future. GBN |
polygamist:Don't say what you don't know, The eastern governors are trying not to throw away the bath water and the baby. The most important thing is to get Nnamdi Kanu to a position where they can sit, discuss and reason together. Confrontation is not always this best way of resolving issues. Any attempt by the south east governor to use force or political statement will only escalate the issues with his supporters and make the east a trouble zone. Mind you insult is common to all especially on this platform, though it does not make sense. |
fatiaforreal:Nnandi Kanu said what he said to attract attention and supporters, but not every Igbo person support his insulting statement or methodology. He even insulted every Igbo person who did not share in his ideas. The truth is that Igbos collectively never really felt comfortable in Nigeria, even though individually they travel and settle far and wide. Far from your thought, Igbos are hospitable and open to reasoning. |
