The easterners in the north should begin to withdraw their investment and move southward or better still to the east. This is exactly what let to the war. While the northern leaders were making political statements, their soldiers and civilians continued to kill the people of eastern extraction in the early day of the pogrom. This is history repeating itself. Even if the governors are able to calm them this time, it is only a postponement of the attack, as any upheaval in the north will be used as an avenue to accomplishment this threat. It's unfortunate that all the time in our nationhood, instead pursuing development of minds and physical infrastructure, we are still struggling to live as one nation. There is no doubt, that most Nigerians know what the solution is but due to ethno-political/religious sentiment which have beclouded our minds, make it practically impossible to make constructive and objective contributions to nation building. Our conscience is dead. GBN |
It is very unfortunate that people and groups persons could go about throwing people's names about and giving baseless allegations which could attract litigation. If there is something they know which the rest of us don't, shouldn't they present it with evidences. Has this group also exposed the wrong doings of the political class in the SE now and in the past? Shouldn't the group proffer solutions to the problem in the SE and indeed Nigeria. If Nigeria and Nigerians fail to acknowledge our history and make the needed amendments, we will continue to move one step forward and two steps backward. Higher thinking is not for everybody, that is why majority will not see the fundamental issues the agitation in the SE is asking. First is how did we arrive in our constitution "We the people of Nigeria" and two how did we arrived on how to be governed and live together. These and many more questions require visionary leadership that has the wisdom to handle such peaceful agitations as the Ipods and the ND militants. Using threat and force has never been the best to attain Nationhood status. We have the responsibility to protect our tomorrow by the actions we take today. Kanu might have been very insulting to everyone, including persons of his Igbo tribe, but Nigeria and Nigerian don't take notice until something absurd is done. Let us make amendment and move forward. GBN |
Daddybright1986:Nigerians now know that this movement is not a fluke. It is good to see that this traders can close their business for something."If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything.” |
Biafra is an idiology, something in the subconsciousness of the Igbos and will be difficult to eradicate especially now. Only quality and visionary leadership can to an extend reduce the movement. The event today shows how much the eastern people appreciate all the lives lost in the quest to keep Nigeria one in coercion. I wonder why the Nigerian set up continue to leave in denial of her history. I wonder why this country can easily forget the millions of people lost in the pogroms and also expect those directly affected to do the same. This reveals how trivial the life of Nigerians are. |
ralphelo:It is people like you that stroke up wars. I don' think the easterners are interested in your war but rather they a seeking for a more peaceful means of referendum. Countries are geographical area bounded by agreement of the people within, therefore, are man made and can be dissolved. I don't need to give you examples. Igbos have invested so much in this country in blood, finance and cross tribal relationships to want to contemplate war. All what those not in support of this movement of breakup should do is to convince the Igbos that One Nigeria is better by supporting the implementation of an egalitarian society where equity and justice prevail simple. I do respect the VP but he need to be careful the way he speaks on some of this contentious issues and not play to the gallery. It's important that you also know that a lot of passionate igbos have read virtually all write ups on the war. The said corrupt politicians are in all tribes and that is why Nigeria since independence cannot moved forward collectively. I hope you will understand my comment and keep away from making comment that could put more fuel to the raging fire. GBN |
Of what use or benefit is holding Uba in detention without charges to the Nigeria people and the rule of law? The beauty of democracy and the rule of law is that people are given the opportunity to be heard. I thought this government was to moved leadership to another level. Keeping him in detention and feeding Nigerians with sensational news is counter productive because not everyone is gullible. He has not denied that he sold the said petroleum product to Nigerians and neither has NNPC denied owing him fees. How many people on this platform has seen the agreement between capital oil and NNPC? Nigerians are tired of all this circus of detentions, court injunctions and counter court injunctions. This is a vivid picture of how some Nigerians are languishing in prisons across the country due to impunity of powers that be. Why are we such a confused set of people, who will not do things rightly. What will DSS get from him in the next 14 days which they couldn't get in the past 20 days or more. This is a business transaction gone bad. |
SirJeffry:The old man has seen it all and is in the position to lend his voice. Most politicians and their followership are much inclined to corrupt thinking influenced by tribal & religious sentiments. Nigerians and indeed the youth need to provide the needed platform to change this country for better. We can't continue to say ONE NIGERIA without looking at the grumbling voices within. It is not by applying the full might of the country that will stop such voices. Every part part of this country has one grievances or the other which need recognized and necessary amendment or remedy actioned. We can not continue to live in denial of the presence of these issues. GBN |
GameGod:You talk like a baby, with people of your intelligence, Nigeria will continue to be in confusion. If you have nothing constructive to say why not just read only. |
I don't know we could all agree on an issue. Well I don't want to follow the crowd, CBN can go on, until we begin to get logical and objective in our opinions and channel our so call intelligence toward making a country with equity and justice. A country of great minds. |
Nigeriadondie:Let assume the legislators don't obey the law, don't you think the executive should lead by example? On what moral ground will the executive state stand in the fight against corruption if they don't act by the law. If what Melaye said is true, then the President should be called to order. I can't believe that someone at this point in time will advocate for a military coup. May be you don't appreciate the freedom to air your opinion as you have on nairaland among many others. |
AtlanticBreeze:It is a pity that some people believe that anyone who have has been in government is absolutely corrupt or a thief and as such should get media persecution. Every governor in Nigeria have been investigated by and have their records with the EFCC. If this man is making bold statements and walking freely around, is it not an indication that he has nothing to hide? Until he is founding wanting please keep your allegations personal. Don't pronounce a man guilty until found guilty. We cannot have a country where everybody is a prosecutor and Judge at same time. |
Yyeske:No permanent friend, no permanent foe. It is unfortunate that he said those thing. Many of us have said worst thing against other tribes in Nigeria. Have we as a people learnt anything from the past. The answer is No, agitations left and right because of Lack of justice and equity. Let do the right thing as country and as individuals. |
Good move but I will have preferred the plant sited in one of northern states. How do we expect other state to open up if every investment is in Lagos. That is why civil service is the major employer of labour in most States. Federal Government policy should encourage such huge investment across the country. While I don't have anything against Lagos state which have been a home for all Nigerians but concentrating industries in Lagos is inimical to accelerated development of other parts of Nigeria. There's is need for a flourishing Port in any of the SS state to serve the area and SE, a cargo railways system to link the north, since that is the one of the strong reason for citing industries in Lagos. |
Ijaya123:Jerry Igbokwe is a nobody in his native home town. A man who has not contributed anything to the development of his home town is not one to be taken serious. If he has issues with Kanu, which many Igbos have too, must he use every opportunity available to him to insult Kanu and the sensibility of his kindred and tribe. I have not heard from him of ways of bringing development to Igbo land neither has he tried to mentor the teeming youths in his state on any sphere of life. He just sit in Lagos and cast aspersions on his hard working tribe. |
egbabiekperemo1:But it is the duty of the state government to development the state, using any legal means of doing that. It is not about Igbo or any other people in Lagos. It is just coincidental that Igbos being business men, merchant traders and entrepreneurs are often affected when new development plan are made. Market are used to open up new possibilities and development of an area. Recently some Hausa/Fulani were cleared off the railways lines in Lagos, they could also complain. Although I agree that, all people in Lagos should also look towards contributing to the development of their individual state. |
Why is EFCC always in a haste to go public without proper investigation. |
The Nigerian state is brutal, vicious and uncaring. This is what we are as a people . Government is just a reflection of the people. Nigerians especially those down south have what it takes to make government accountable to the citizens but tribal and political sentiments have beclouded their senses. Government in the south should take the lead and put down strict laws on grazing and monitoring institution for compliance. It does not matter if the Aso Rock agrees or not and see how the other state in the MB will replicate such laws in their domain. The various state government should seek to protect their domain using every provisions within their constitutional power to flush out these evil persons who have no regard for human life. If Amaechi could disagree with jonathern and tinubu with obasanjo, then I don't see any wrong with the states disagreeing with the FG on method of putting this senseless killings to stop. |
nextprince:First let me say the write up is either fake or economical with the facts. Before you contend with another's opinion, it is good to look at the whole and not the part, which is why sometimes our opinion portrays myopics. Let even assume he is from the east having traveled that far, questions you should ask: 1. Has he no friends 2. Has he no relatives 3. Is he not a member of his towns union or any kins and kin association 4. Is he not a member of a church Burial responsibility is with one's family, the unions if the person is a member will only assist to ensure that the person get his or her right according to the constitution of the union. Even Nigerian in diaspora join associations. It very important that every Igbo person identify with his town union and or be a member of a society in the church. Life is unpredictable, and we not like the white people, who take up different insurances and burial insurance scheme. We are Africans, who lay emphasis on family and association. There is nothing to condend with in this issue. If the late man was truely an Igbo man, he must have failed all the 4 questions I raised above. So it is no persons blame that not buried in his home town. Let the dead bury the dead. |
femolii:And this reasoning of yours is why the Igbos will continue to seek to pull out of Nigeria. There is no certainty that a group of persons will stay together forever check the history of great nations that have disintegrated and the causes for the separation. Even in America some states are still evaluating the benefit of sticking to the union of America. But one thing I know for sure is that, a country will stick together if one common goal of justice and equity is pursued. When Oha na eze, will imbibe the in there heart the love of afeni fere. I hope you understand my last sentence. |
alfsalami:This is one of National heritage that tells our story as a nation. It depends on how we individually want to see it the picture. I remember how excited I was as a kid in 1982 or there about to see Murtala Mohammed's official vehicle at Onikan Museum. I still could visualize it in my mind today. |
Nigerian youth with misplaced priority. The Nigerian - Biafrian civil war should have been a platform to make Nigeria better like America did. Instead it has drawn us apart because of misrepresentation of fact and failure to accept and correct those issues that gave rise to the war in the first place. To make it worst, the country has decided to eliminate it from her history which is very unfortunate. Lot of people on this platform were not born then neither have they taken time to study the issue surrounding the the war from both local and international perspective. Those issues are still there to date and no body is doing anything to correct them. Several mistakes were done then and are still been done today. The leaders then were faced with a situation that the people never experienced and had to do what was seen to be right to them then including Ojukwu. Bear in mind that Nigeria was an entity contrived by the Britain for trading purpose. The war could have been avoided if there were concerted effort to implement the Aburi agreement or any other acceptable agreement to both party and rather than to centralized government which Ironsi started and Gowon tenaciously held to and is still been practiced today. Nigerians are still calling for the same restructure today. If we don't correct the fundamental issues, our past as a nation will continue to hunt our future. The war was not about Ojukwu nor was it about Gowon. It was about the unabated genocide and resolve of a people to protect themselves, so nobody should twist the history. God Bless the people of Nigeria. |
First, we are dealing with politicians and their supporters, It is important to stay to the issue at hand and not comparing any body or state. It will be sincere and objective if those contesting those achievement by Obiano can prove their argument without insult and deviations. Secondly, when I read the Vernon that comes off some of my eastern brothers on both state and national issues, I just feel pity for them. Wisdom and knowledge is not by the magnitude of insult that can comes out from you. Insulting a whole group of people who could have been in one state with you if not for the politics of state creation is not healthy. I hope we get it right and stay focus to developing Ala Igbo. |
If some respected Igbo leaders have prevail on him, why is he still requesting for a public apology which he knows he will never get one. Is it not better for him to keep silent and continue with his leadership in Imo state and let the public and posterity be the judge. Imo and Anambra are brothers, their squabbles will never create enmity between the two states. They should better close ranks and settle their differences peacefully without media publications. And on the issue of the governors decamping to APC, I think Okorocha should bridle his tongue and let thing play out naturally knowing fully the way most people in the east perceives him. They say charity begins from home. How has he tried to rally up other eastern governors on collective development other politics of party. We all know the issues with the Eastern governor forum. It should be known that Okorocha is only interested in being the president of Nigeria and that is his right but he should avoid getting into unnecessary squabbles with his people. He will need them. |
It will be difficult for Nigerians to support this loan moves by the present administration. Although it would have helped to stimulate the process of getting out of recession by injecting funds into the economy but we can't trust these same group of persons to properly manage the funds, if in less than two years we have become poorer like this . Moreover rail construction is a long term project, considering our way of doing things, the rail lines might just be commissioned uncompleted, just for some one to take the glory of building it and the fund embezzled. Take a trip across the country and see the number of substandard and uncompleted project abandoned everywhere. Until this government start and finish a major project, I don't think any reasonable person will support this loan move. But come to think of it, the loan approval is not delayed by the legislators for the love they have for the masses, it must be somethings else. Where have they really stood with the masses? |
iukpe:Any government that cannot stand it ground on the issue of development or any other positive issue is not fit to be there. Sometimes government need to force the people to move for new residential and commercial areas to start up. But we have seen most times that no adequate alternative is made, and when made, they are sometimes too expensive for the average trader. If the government in Rivers and other SS state are sensible they should put pressure on the FG with regards to utilization and expansion of the sea and air ports in the area to boost economic activities. Secondly is to provide the enabling environment for business to strive. Put down laws and empower law enforcement to deal seriously with all those cults and tout disturbing the creation and sustainability of businesses. Avoid double taxation and extortion by village heads using the youths. |
chibuzorAbia:That is the question many have failed to answer. Even though Lagos was once capital of Nigeria and has developed by the contributions of all ethnic group especially the easterners, it still belong to westerners and nobody can change that. Since you claim to develop Lagos what stops you from developing the towns and cities in the east. Many business men here in Lagos have many properties in Lagos but can't boast of any other ones in the east except at their villages. My only problems with the demolition, is timing and under compensation of shop owners. |
Majority of the youths on Nairaland and indeed Nigeria lack objective reasoning and that is why Nigeria is the way it is today. No matter how we blame the leadership, we fail to understand , it's the product of our believes, actions or inaction . That was a crusade organised by some business men in which some individual must have willingly submitted their worship items for destruction. It is sensational for any one mention shrine and worship places. No matter how you dislike the other persons religion, atleast be objective in commenting on what relates to the religion. |
Frank Edward is on point. It is important for their sake and of the society, that they balance their songs. Music is a powerful tool that could positively or negatively impact on individuals. This is not about religion but morals. |
The LIRS should stop threatening tax payers. The problem with our tax system is that government over burdens those already under the tax net who are in the organised or formal sector of the economy, while the informal sector is not well managed. Most companies under fashola government began to comply to tax laws because Fowler used intimidation to achieve the then government fiscal budget. Most companies are now better aware of the tax laws and look at every possible way to legally avoid tax burdens through the help of tax consultants as result, less tax for the government. From experience the LIRS should seek to manage tax audit professionally and close up open audit. Any illegal move by the LIRS will amount to so many litigation which might outlive ambode's administration. LIRS should first seek to close all outstanding audit before use of intimidation. For me I have defeated them once in TAT and the court and I await them on the open audits. |
Izu Joseph is a typical example of what Nigeria is today. Police and military extra-judiciary killings nationwide. If not that the late footballer have achieved some level of popularity as a player and the social media, He would have been framed a militant by the authorities. I thought the military always have rules of engagement but not so in Nigeria. I am sure that with all this noise about the killing, the government of Nigeria did not send anybody to the family. |
Dasuks:I don't think it is right to take Federal might on the people of Niger Delta, because it will only continue to create animosity of the people against Nigeria. Every region already have it on grievance against the state. The region has suffered enough neglect and I believe that if government show enough effort and not the one on paper, in developing that region, even the people there will rise against the militants. As it is presently, Nigeria has only Lagos and Abuja with real Federal presence and development, other state are just struggling. Those people there see the region as being exploited to the benefit of Nigeria. Forget OMPADEC/NDDC, and the 13% Derivation, these are mediums to pacify the people. It easy for us to stay in Lagos or other part of Nigeria and justify our position, without recourse to the real experience in the ND. Let Buhari find away to convince this people to believe in him. Find away to keep the boys busy even though we know the mentality of an average youth there. There is need to change they way we do things since military incursion into leadership. |
This style of repeated, arrest and release shows how clueless and childish Efcc and to large extent this government is. Of what benefit is this to the Nigerian people? If the agencies are not fully prepared to face this man in court and get judgement then let him be to his conscience. What most antagonist (public conscience) fail to take into account is the supremacy of the law. The government and the public cannot be the prosecutor and Judge at same time. |
