personally ill prefer a German AWD over a Japanese AWD
the rav 4 is a rugged vehicle and most of them comes with i4 or 3.0 litre engines, (i may be wrong) unlike the Venza, it can withstand physically hard and harsh enviroments, plus parts are available, the venza is some kind of luxury wagon or should i say no
the CRV or RAV4 should be your best bet CUV
It's your opinion.
How German entered this discussion is beyond me.
To the original poster, if space, comfort and a bit of luxury is your priority, go for the venza.
If you want to get in and out of most rugged terrains without plenty wahalla, get the rav4. It's short wheel base and robust AWD will get you out of most sticky situations.
It has rear arms that can travel far from the body (farther than the venzas) which gives it a better off-road capability.
The engines in both cars are usually same 2.5L or 3.5L.
I got one way back in 1999. Got it as a puppy from a litter born by the school dog.
It turned out to be about 50% golden retriever.
Most intelligent dog I ever owned. 1. Eats only what you give it. Won't touch what you didn't give it even if you leave the kitchen open. 2. Loved good life. Watched tv and would always run into the sitting room as soon as the AC was turned on. 3. Got along well with visitors during the day but would bite their hands off at night when we lock the doors. 4. Knew when it was time to start night watch. Leaves the sitting room to commence guard duty as soon as the tv was turned off. 5. Loved kids and would tolerate their manhandling 6. Knew basic commands even though we didn't actually train him to do those 7. Hardly barked except when something out of the ordinary happens eg a stranger driving the family car 8. Was the unofficial bell. Low growls meant someone was at the gate. 9. Loved comfort. Would creep into your bed to sleep if you left him in the room while taking a nap. 10. Was the unofficial doctor too. Would follow you around if you were sick. First clue we always got that someone might be sick. Would stay by the bedside too. 11. Hated water and bath time but tolerated it. Always bolted out of the area when bath time was mentioned. 12. Would help gather clothes too from the lines if it saw you gathering them. Sometimes a bit too enthusiastically.
City driving but mixed most times as I’m on the highway till I reach central areas.
Best I ever got was when I did my last oil change, then I travelled next day. I got about 17MPG.
Accelerate gently. Harsh acceleration, speeds above 100km/hr and hard braking is the enemy of good mpg. Try to keep your revs below 2200 rpm and you will see a change in your mpg.
There is no sure way of knowing if an engine has overheated before if there is no damage to the engine or oil mixing with water or leaking head gasket.
Some have connected fans directly for reasons best known to them. Some have removed thermostats for reasons best known to them. Some have changed their radiators from single to double cell for reasons best known to them.
Probably half the cars on our roads are running without thermostats, double cell rads and fans connected directly.
I don't think they are all overheating or have overheated.
Piyke: Thanks for the compliment! On switching gas station, you know now, it takes some time to know if the fuel is better, plus I've been driving spirited lately, so not quite ideal to compare mpg. One thing I can say though, I have often noticed that if I get low quality fuel, my generator with remote start will take 2 cranks to start. There's a NIPCO station that I used to get fuel from. Once I buy fuel from there, the gen will always start on second attempt compared to when I get from this other station. That said, I've noticed that occasionally, even the so called "good" station can get bad stock.
There is no "reputable" fuel station.
Hear me out.
1. They all get PMS from the same source (NNPC or the few oligarchs who import low octane ethanol and methanol batched PMS) 2. They do not have filters installed between their tanks and their pumps (which should be a standard but in Nigeria the regulatory bodies don't give a ...) 3. They do not wash their tanks. Never. 4. None of these retail outlets bothers to conduct tests on the PMS supplied to them so they don't even know the quality of the product being sold to you.
Old stock will cause hard starts like you experienced.
PMS blended with high quantities of naphtha will also cause that. Na local refinery dey always supply this one.
For the stuppid unintelligent ignorant ones on this thread, before you dispute a subject you have zero knowledge on, go and learn from scratch, before you can measure up to me on Stick-Shift performance.
Ikenna351: This test was done with normal slow acceleration (gradually depressing throttle pedal) to redline, easily achieved via Stick-Shift (not immediate WOT or pedal to floor). The video wasn't made for 0-60 of the car (how quick the car can be), but specifically for the engine note on the 2 gears demonstrated on the video up to redline, as described on the video title. Borrow a knowledgeable/technical eye from one who has and watch the video, focusing on how rpm started the increase Vs one intended for 0-60 acceleration (WOT from 0km/h).
In the video, On gear 1, the throttle pedal was slowly depressed and stopped halfway before the floor before it hit redline. There was long gap or delay before I started gradually accelerating again after i upshifted to gear 2 from 1 (because i wasn't targeting seconds), which made the rpm to drastically dropped. The gear 2 took over at lower rpm for 0-60 purpose and the depress on the throttle pedal was much slower this time than earlier with gear 1 (watch both tachometer and speedometer on gear 1 & 2 and observe the pace of acceleration/rpm increase were different when I upshifted from 1 to 2, including the speedometer/vehicle speed). At no point did I depress the throttle pedal beyond halfway to the floor while on both gears during this test.
If you have zero skill, basic knowledge or basic skills on Stick-Shift (which is obvious on this thread from comments) and want to improve your skills, know that Stick-Shift doesn't require instant WOT or pedal to floor to hit redline (especially ones with powerful Engines), as long as the engine is sound. A small acceleration can take the revs up there, depending on right gear and right skill, unless you are racing where every second matters or doing 0-60. Immediate WOT is very unnecessary on Stick-Shifts for redline while in motion, unless on the automatic transmission that basically requires throttle pedal to be pushed and hold to the floor to achieve redline while car is in motion.
Any hardcore enthusiast should know this by now. If you want to become one like me, start paying attention or start listening to your car. Your car is always telling you something while behind the wheel. That's how you learn.
Lion-King Monk.
Ikenna, I no believe this one oo.
Redline without pedal to the metal?
Abeg oo. I have never seen a car do that Biko (unless you drop to a lower gear from high speed or going down a very steep slope in a low gear).
The rpm rose quickly, too quickly for that to be a gradual acceleration.
kingreign: Gear 1-2 transition time is slow in that car. Notice despite the redlining of that engine it took quite a number of time to get to speeds. That car is like an 8-9seconds 0-100km/h car.
It actually took 12 seconds to do zero to 100. What?
juniorrate: did u think there’s a leak in Radiator or just to remove the thermostat
Hian. Wetin concern exhaust leak with thermostat?
No go use your hand buy gbese oo.
Something is rubbing somewhere. Either your exhaust is rubbing somewhere or your heat shield is loose or sand protector is rubbing on your tire (it should have rubbed through by now though)
foryourmindlol: Ngige should mention the roads that have washed off. Open mouth waa like fool.
I expect the same fools mocking Ngige for ASUU strike will undoubtedly believe this beer palour talk because their arch nemesis Peter Obi's name is being mentioned.
Back to the topic: Peter Obi did a lot of things including federal roads (eg Onitsha to Nkpor stretch of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, etc, those are still standing), he built so many rural roads that Anambra till today is said to have the highest road network (you will not enter any community as remote as it is without at least one or two major roads linking it to the next one).
If I don't know any other thing, I know that the three flyovers in Awka constructed by Peter Obi are standing gidigba today.
My brother, the same Anambra that I come from and visit regularly. Ngige is a short idiot. No governor comes close to what peter obi achieved in Anambra. From ihiala to awka etiti, from onitsha to amawbia, from Igbo ukwu to obeledu, the roads are hundreds and they still stand till today cos I still drive thru them steady.
If your pcv checks out and there is not oil leak anywhere, go to a higher weight oil. Try Total Quartz 7000. It's been known to do the trick. Good luck.
buygala: Put Ofoma bread inside the exhaust pots..
Ofoma bread in particular else it won't work
If you are not in or close to Onitsha where you can get Ofoma bread, get 400 naira Agege bread from those "oni Buredi" hawkers in Lagos and stuff all of them in your exhaust port
Your car will bellow like a tiger suffocating from eating strong bread with without drinking water. I ashua you
