How do I solve this problem and what are the disadvantages of using regular fuel in a premium fuel recommended car? Thank you! Gazzuzz There is no petrol station dispensing premium fuel anywhere in Nigeria. Keep your rpms low and the knocking will be kept at bay. Modified |

Family › Re: My Uncle Wife Is Insensitive by 9icetoo(m): 6:21am On Jun 02, 2022 |
ReneJay: Good day nairalanders. I want to seek your advice on behalf of my uncle.
Pardon me for any typographical errors. My uncle has been married to this lady for almost 16 years. They have two kids. According to his narration, the first five years of marriage was wonderful.
But things took a sudden twist later on. The wife has changed in both attitude and manners. The man is a civil servant and earns 70k monthly and his wife is a teacher. She earns 35k monthly.
The twist is, the wife has stopped supporting the man financially. In fact, anything she buys for the family or for the children, she asks for the money, even as little as spice cubes. My uncle had to report the matter to my father, his brother, after several years of enduring her strange attitude. My father called her to table the matter. She admitted the accusations. In her defence, she said it is the responsibility of the man (husband) to provide for the family. what broke my uncle's heart was the day the rent of their house was due, he hadnt pieced together the rent and was going about to seek loans from friends and family. He asked her if she knew who to loan from and she said she didn't know who to loan from. To his dismay, he got wind from a friend that his wife was looking for a piece of land to buy with God knows how and where she got the money from. She even told him she doesn't have a dime to add to whatever he's able to raise. He does everything in the house from A to Z.
He needs advice on what to do. Should he file for divorce and hope things would get Rosy enough to start afresh with someone else? Or should he call for a meeting with her family and our family to try to mediate and make her see reasons why she should be supportive?
Matured advice please. I laugh in Latin. |

Itsrm: Any car can do 1m miles if you have enough money to spend on it.
What we are talking about is the cost of ownership. You bought your vehicle at 173k miles and is now at 201k miles. How much have you spent to keep it on the road compared to someone who bought his at 73k miles and is now at 101k miles. That is the point you're missing.
Granted you would have gotten yours cheaper than he got his but how about the cost of downtime while the vehicle is sitting at the mechanic workshop for repairs.
It's even funny how people who know better forced you to buy a car with 173k miles and you're here still arguing the obvious.
There are several well maintained 18 year old cars on auction still below 150k miles with decent prices. Why are we not advising the OP to get them? He must not use a highlander if he can't afford the cost of getting one with reasonable mileage. 1 Kickstarter (12k) 2. 1 brake disc (24k) 3. One coil (6k) 4. Oil change (as needed) 5. Transmission oil change (as per maintenance schedule) 6. Axle oil and differential oil (as per maintenance schedule) 7. Front and rear brake pads (expected after 30k miles of use 8. 2 tyres 9. Set of shocks and linkage (I travel a lot and haul heavy stuff so was expected. Our roads are also wonderful). I have not broken the bank to maintain it. Rest. He will buy what he can afford. There is no guarantee that a car below 150k miles won't require all of the above and even more to be replaced during use here. Once again, rest oga. Mileage is not the litmus test for buying a car. Allow the OP enjoy his car. |

Some people sha.
Same people making noise about never buying high mileage vehicles will walk into a car stand and tell a dealer that his low mileage accident free 08 ES350 is too expensive at N5.5m because his neighbour has a similar car on sale for N4.5m.
Same people will eventually buy an accidented or privately sold problematic (usually transmission or engine) vehicle and be visiting one mechanic or the other after a few months or get stuck at ore on the cars first trip out of Lagos.
Maintenance is key!!!
My car is 201xxx and was bought with 173xxx. It's still going strong.
Don't expect low mileage on an old car. In this case the OPs car is below average mileage expected.
These cars can easily do 300k+ if maintained properly.
The average Nigerian barely covers 5000 miles in a year.
At that rate it will take the OP about ten years to get to 300k miles.
He would have got his money's worth from the car.
Car has been bought already OP, so enjoy your ride.
Don't allow negative people dampen your joy.
Cheers. |

nurey: That's almost 400,000km though I am not worried about the car itself I bought one at 500,000km and used it for 8years still factory engine and factory gear.
But the 4cylinder highlander has the 2azfe engine known for extreme oil burn, I would prefer you find one with the V6 engine Not all 2azfe engines burn oil. There was a bad batch. I drove one for a few years and travelled extensively with it. Drove it like I stole it sometimes and I never had to top oil due to oil burn. If the rate of oil burn is 1l per 1000miles or 1600km though, I think anyone can live with that. |
Car Talk › Re: Does Catalytic Converter Actually Reduces Fuel Consumption? by 9icetoo(m): 9:47am On May 30, 2022 |
drlateef: There’s a top speed at which fuel consumption is optimum even on highway. It’s around 70-80miles/hour. Below that it’s high and above that it’s higher consumption. A combination of factors are responsible for that. At lower speed, I have forgotten that phenomenon in Physics which makes the speed of movement of tyres to give a negative feedback for less consumption and maintaining the speed. But this happens at optimum speed I mentioned. At higher speed above 80miles, the effect of wind comes in to increase the consumption. Wind effect is less at that optimum speed. Other factors are engine size, the body size, shape, fuel efficiency of the car, and weight of the car, a full petrol tank contributes to the weight and causes a drag thereby causing more fuel consumption. It's actually 80km/hr or 50 miles per hour. At 80mph, your mpg is taking a serious hit. |

She had been writing aptitude tests since and failing but something remarkable is happening this year. She has been passing all the graduate trainee tests and interviews this year. She is at the final stage of Cerdar group, Stanbic, Meristem and Oilserv graduate trainee program. Just waiting for offer letters. She got an offer into Wema bank graduate trainee but rejected it because of 2 years bond. She is currently in Gt Bank graduate training school.
The issue is that KPMG just invited her for their test which is physical on Saturday. The Gt bank program runs from Monday-Saturday. I have been trying so hard to convince her to take take permission from the tutors at Gtb and go to write the KPMG test. She refused that she does not like Accounting as she read Statistics but she was open to it before this year and had been writing tests of different audit firms. I prefer KPMG to Stanbic and GT and want her to give it a shot.
She is 26 and this is her last chance at any graduate trainee program. Please what do you guys think? She is confused too.
KPMG ( yet to write the test) GTB ( in training school already) Meristem ( Waiting for offer letter) Stanbic ( Waiting for offer letter)
Which among the above listed is the better choice for a graduate of statistics and is the KPMG test worth taking the risk. Please I need opinions from Nairalanders as I told her to allow me take my time to think about it.
Mods, please push to front page for more experienced professionals to help us. Thanks First of all, tell her to forget about oilserve. It's a service company in the oil and gas sector. Mainly into construction unless she wants to explore the engineering and technical side of things. She should explore the KPMG opportunity. They offer an array of services to firms besides accounting. They do a whole lot in the finance world. However, in doing this, she should not jeopardize her chances in gt bank. If she can't get them to give her the day off to go write the test, she should forget about it. A bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush. |

biosilicon: I) bought a brand new Radiator not toks. 2) I have no idea what mechanic did or did not do, i was not looking over his shoulder when he was working, What he did is flush out the bad fluids and replace radiator. And car was driving fine until i took it to radautoworks. 3. That is what was recommended in the car manual. Okay. You did right by 1. On number 2, I understand if you couldn't supervise mech while he was working. I will advise you do so going forward unless workshop policy does not permit. It's usually the difference between a quality job and a rubbish job. There is a vent on the transmission, ensure it is installed properly when the new transmission is being put in. On number 3, use ATF DW1 going forward. Fakes abound in the market. Fakes go for as cheap as 3k. Original will cost you upwards of 6k per liter. It is unfortunate you suffered this. Hope you get a quality service and a good trans this time around. Cheers. |

Car Talk › Re: I Want To Slap Somebody At Radautoworks by 9icetoo(m): 8:47am On May 26, 2022 |
biosilicon: Wow, i came to this car talk section to search for transmission for my 08 MDX. Never knew there were others that have had bad experiences at radautoworks. I also had a bad experience last week. I will start from the beginning. This is gonna be a long one.
I came back one day and noticed my fan was still running after i turned off the engine. I checked radiator coolant and it turned out that somehow ATF fluid has gotten mixed up with the coolant in the radiator, which was causing the car to overheat.
Because i didn't want to drive the car far with that condition i took it to one local mechanic workshop close by where the guy working on it told me my radiator was bad that was why coolant leaked into the ATF compartment and the fluids mixed up. All these while transmission was shifting fine, the guy drained the bad transmission fluid and i bought a new radiator and a carton of honda ATF z1 for flushing. He said i should drive it for sometime and bring it back for more flushing. I drove the car more than 95km after that without any single issue. Only thing i was worried about was the colour of the ATF which still hasn't completely returned to normal although was much better than before. And there was pent up pressure which releases when you pull out the ATF dipstick ( like sssshhh).
So I decided to take car to "Pros" for the second flush and use that opportunity to give car proper treatment, turned out that was a mistake. I went to radautoworks workshop(carquest) paid the fee and explained my issue. They said they were gonna take it for a test drive, me i was hungry so i went to mega chicken for breakfast, when i came back i asked how far, that was when i met mr Glenn, he said he was afraid to take it for a test drive because of the colour of the ATF, and he noticed pressure when he pulled ATF dipstick, i said i noticed it too. I explained everything to him again from the beginning, he asked if the transmission was shifting fine i said yes. he said if that's the case then all they have to do is flush and add some treatment to prevent slipping, i paid about 14k for the bottle of treatment plus other charges. Strange to hear that the 10k diagnosis fee is deducted from charges because clearly that was not my case. Nothing was deducted Everything i paid was around 40k including the 10k diagnosis fee.
Anyway, after everything i picked up the car the fluid was clear, and mr Glenn assured me he test drove the car and everything was perfect, for my mind this is money well spent, i proceeded to drive home, on getting to shoprite sangotedo transmission started acting funny, In traffic it struggles to engage to first gear, and it does not go above 4th gear plus "check transmission" light popped up for the first time ever since i bought that car. I was enraged , I immediately put out a call to radautoworks but no answer, i assumed they've closed for the day. I just managed to drive it home slowly like that.
By the next morning my anger has calmed. I proceeded to radautoworks workshop, surprisingly transmission was shifting perfectly fine on cold start, but along the way same issues started, turned out transmission is ok when engine isnt yet very hot but after driving for sometime the wahala will start. on getting there mr Glenn said all they did was flush, but that they will check, after every they said its the transmission temp sensor (or something like that) that it was dirty but they've cleaned it and it should be fine. On driving home still same issue. na wa ooo, which kain wahala did i use my money to buy like this car that was driving very fine upon all the driving until it got to that workshop
Well to cut the story short, they suggested i replace the gear and i pay half the workmanship, na him i say make i come here confirm price first, but lo and behold there are other people with similar experiences, What the heck is going on!!! Let me ask you a few questions. I am not poking holes oo, just trying to get some things clear. 1. Did you buy a new radiator or toks? 2. Did your mechanic tamper with the transmission vent hose? 3. Why did you use ATF Z1 instead of DW1? I'm hoping others learn from this. |

Politics › Re: Soludo Should Return Boys Oye And Bakasi Boys In Anambra. by 9icetoo(m): 1:23pm On May 18, 2022 |
Agwotulumbe: it's obvious Simon Ekpa have declared war on Anambra state under whoever payroll he is because I'm definitely sure the bastard is on payroll by some dubious bastards who their mission I'm yet to understand. it's time for Soludo to man up as the CSO of Anambra state and wipe out these bastards forever.
I hereby as a full Anambrarian suggest the following 3 Methods to Soludo.
1. Bounty methods: this has proven to work countless times. there's nothing too much to offer for peace. bounty method is the major method Wike is using to catch any criminal he wants all he needs to do is to place a huge amount of bounty on your head and that's all. country hard and everybody is looking for a way to cash out. trust me if 100 million Naira bounty is placed on Ekpa head, he'll be paranoid and will not even trust his wife (if any) it'll psychologically disorganize him because everybody will be suspect. just promise that on a successful capture of him the money will be paid to the bounty hunter in the most anonymous way. trust me a 100 million Naira bounty on Ekpa will only take few weeks to be achieved. that method will be only used on their top men who coordinates and organize the foot soldiers. this will make them go into hiding and disorganize their plots because there be no more trust among them.
2 The boys oye method (mobilizing brave youths) : The non indomie generation from SE Anambra precisely (onitsha and environs) should recall how arm robbers used to terrorize people in onitsha and environs in late 90s and early 2000s let me not go into details but those around 1997-1999 should recall how arm robbers where so bold that they'll inform you the day they'll come and trust me, they'll come that day and woe betide you if you try anything funny na straight death. during that time Onitsha used to be a ghost city at 6pm, people abandoned their homes to sleep in the church and so many terror. it came to a point where the governor then (Mbadinuju) in collaboration of traditional rulers formed a kind of mob of brave youths popularly called boys oye. what they do is to fish out those criminals and give them jungle justice immediately. that reduced the crime because the locals knows who is who. every youth in Anambra should rise up let's fight these bastards. let's fish them out. they're in our forests let's hunt them like wild animals.
3. Forming a special task force (a bakassi boys type)
When thing went out of hand, mbadinuju brought in bakasi boys and we all know the story well. Soludo should set up a special vigilantees across the state. let them mount in the forests and lay ambush against these criminals. this bastards are hiding under the biafra struggle to carry out their crimes. it's time to ruthlessly deal with them. Soludo should do a special budget for this, arm, fund them well. they should be deadly and ruthless. they'll only have one job and that's to hunt down Ekpa men.
Conclusion while using the bounty method on their leaders and top commanders, ruthless methods should be used on their foot soldiers.
negotiations are over time to get bloody.
I hope this reaches the government of Anambra ears.
ndị Anambra ekenekwaa m unu. You are mad and you have me to tell you. |
