A mysterious church with bizarre mode of worship is gaining popularity in Onitsha, Anambra state as many single ladies are flocking to it at night especially on Fridays for weekly prayers to hook-up young men. According to investigations, the church known as Canaan Land Deliverance Church a.k.a Land of Miracles is located at Oraukwu hall, Fegge Onitsha & operates @ night mostly on weekend, especially on Fridays when they usually perform deliverance night. It was gathered that the owner of the “church” Pastor Ekenechukwu Chukwunyerem is an ex-drug addict, a convicted man. Investigations show that the church forces single girls seeking marriage to strip unclothed in an open church what they termed “breaking of marriage curses”. These single ladies who are mostly aged forties & above, before being allowed to participate in d deliverance session are compelled to pay a consultation fee of N50,000:00 & after, miracles fees of N200,000:00 and above, depending on the caliber of husband that the lady is looking for. Those seeking wealthy & international businessmen are charged N200, 000 which will be paid on four installments depending on an individual’s financial capacity. For those seeking for an average wealthy man, you pay 120,000. Those paying on installment are forced to take oath with the pastor using their menstrual blood which the pastor will collect & keep. If the individual refuses to pay, she will be visited with barrenness or instant death. Further investigation showed that the hallmark of these deliverance sessions is the pastor’s anointing of foreheads & private parts of these ladies proclaiming that any man who comes in contact with them that the Olive oil will glue them together, making them inseparable. The church also is said to have a fantastic prices for other spiritual services they render. According to a prominent worshipper (a popular Onitsha transporter) who has left the church that people looking for the fruit of the womb are charged fees ranging from N250, 000 & above. While the church charged those looking for house spiritual cleansing is N100, 000 & above which must be preceded by a generous thanksgiving. He also said that those seeking for job are charged N50,000 & above depending  on the nature of job. Those for prosperity in business is N100,000& above depending on the business but these are strictly on the condition under an oath that whatever proceeds from such is the property of the church
Crime / Militants In Ondo Surrender Arms by abasifo(m): 10:56am On Apr 16, 2011
The director of the State Security Service [SSS] in Ondo state, Mr. Ayodele Adeleke has asked the state government to ensure that development reaches the Ese-Odo local government.

Mr. Adeleke said this at an arms surrender ceremony where four ex-militants tendered about 60 single barrel guns, 60 machetes, 21 spears among other items.

The ex militants, Francis Ikuenogbon, Thomson Kereotiu, Justice Odogbo and Arerepade Ake, explained that the need for peace and development in the Niger-Delta region of Ondo state spurred them to submit their illegal arms and ammunition to security agents.

Mr. Ayodele Adeleke who assured of safety of lives and property of the people, noted that the militants had taken a right step to peace and development of their community in Ese Odo local government area of the state.

He therefore urged others who had not surrendered their weapons to do so, as they would be adequately protected.

Politics / Re: Bomb Explosion In Inec Office At Suleja.niger State by abasifo(m): 10:20pm On Apr 08, 2011
SAN FRANCISCO, April 08, (THEWILL) - A dirty bomb which exploded inside the Suleja, Niger State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has killed 25 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and severely wounded about 48 others, according to multiple sources in Suleja.

THEWILL gathered that the explosion occurred at about 5.47. pm at the Kwamba area office of the commission just when corpers hired as adhoc staff by INEC for Saturday’s election were checking the notice board to know where they have been posted to.

Multiple sources told THEWILL correspondent in Niger State that the impact of the blast was so severe that it left many victims dismembered.

“The bomb must have been planted very close to the corpers because body parts were scattered all over the premises. The place was packed full when suddenly there was a loud bang,” one of our sources said.

THEWILL gathered that the remains of the dead and those wounded have been taken to the Suleja General Hospital.

The Niger State Police Commissioner Bala Hassan has relocated to Suleja while investigation into the incident has commenced, according to police spokesman for Niger State, Mr. Richard Oguche, who confirmed the blast.

He added that those who carried out the bombing would be apprehended.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Recall that last month, multiple blasts during a PDP campaign rally killed about 9 persons in the area

Politics / Re: Breaking News: Entire NASS Election Postponed Till Monday April 4 - Jega by abasifo(m): 2:55pm On Apr 02, 2011
The general elections for the National Assembly have been sensationally postponed across all the states in the Federation until Monday 4th April.

In a statement by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) chairman, Attahiru Jega, an "unprecedented late arrival of result sheets" was the reason for the postponement.

Mr. Jega was quick to apologise to the millions of voters who had turned out as early as 6am and said he "deeply regrets" the shift in date.

He blamed unspecified vendors for the late arrival of the material which only reached Abuja at 9am on Saturday. According to Mr. Jega, the vendors equally blamed the situation in Japan for compelling them to divert the supply of result sheets.

The INEC chairman said that the lack of ballot papers was not really the issue but that it was the complete absence of results sheets in the 36 states that forced the postponement.

He could not comment on whether Monday 4th April would now be a public holiday but said that he expected the authorities would make an announcement imminently.

Mr. Jega expressed his confidence that there would be no further delays to the process because all electoral material had now arrived in the country.

Poor start

The elections had not started well as thousands of polling booths reported the late arrival of electoral material and INEC officials.

In Plateau, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Habu Hinna Zarma, revealed that almost 2 and a half million ballot papers failed to arrive in the state.

In Gombe, an administrative error saw gubernatorial electoral material sent to the state instead of National Assembly ballot papers.

Many polling booths in Abuja only received ballot papers for the House of Assemble and not for the Senate.

Some people hate, some people like me, that is life everybody cannot like you. While I am at that check this out. This girl was just about to take the vows at the church when she was called by NNPC for a job test. She followed her instinct and abandons the wedding to go take the NNPC job test.

Ok, some people are critizing the chic that she showed disrespect to her husband (well to be) and the husbands family for that singular act.

I think the girl needs a good job, and a job in NNPC is no ordinary job, she took the best decision

What do you guys think? RIGHT OR WRONG??

Part 2 Top Reasons Marriages Fail

According to an AOL poll, one third of all married women say if they had to do it all over again they would not marry the person they are with. Here are the top reasons according to divorce attorneys polled, for failing marriages.

10. Age at Marriage. Most attorneys suggest waiting until at least 30 to marry. Not one single attorney polled suggested getting married at a young age.

9. Being Opposites. The saying goes opposites attract but divorce attorneys advice couples to be more alike than different in order to last.

8. Sex. A sexless marriage of more than days or weeks at a time will not last.

7. The Grass is Greener. After spending many years in the field, attorneys advice the grass is never greener.

6. The In-Law Factor. Parents who won't stay out of their kids lives are a major reason for divorce.

5. Infidelity. Lawyers say this is rarely the only problem the relationship is having. There are usually big problems around infidelity.

4. Second Marriages. Most second marriages fail and there are two basic reasons- 1.) The new spouse is too much like the old spouse and 2.) The raising of step children and dealing with former spouses is too much pressure.

3. The Marriage Fix. Thinking that marriage, a priest or a minister will change essential attributes of the bride or groom never works.

2. Drug and Alcohol Addiction. One third of all marriages end because the addiction is going untreated.

1. Disillusionment. Whirlwind romances and brief courtships make people vulnerable to disillusionment. It's just too easy to paint a rosy picture of the relationship.

DDC machines reject Obasanjo's fingerprints

Francis Falola and Oluwole Josiah

A mild drama occurred in Abeokuta on Sunday as former President Olusegun Obasanjo had a dose of the frustration many Nigerians face in getting registered for the April general elections.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, at the Ita-Eko voter registration centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday.

He had arrived his Ward 11 Ita-Eko, Abeokuta at 11.53am, but ended not registering at the ward as his fingerprints were rejected several times by the Direct Data Capturing machine in use.

Before his arrival in company with his wife, Bola, people had patiently waited to be registered.

Our correspondent reported that when the DDC machine rejected Obasanjo's fingerprints, the Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr, Martins Okunfolami, and other INEC officials present made arrangement for another machine to be used.

When the second failed, the INEC officials, out of desperation, accompanied Obasanjo to another registration point in the ward. But at the point, the DDC machine malfunctioned.

When all hopes appeared dashed, the former President got up and tried to leave, saying he would come back on his return from the overseas trip.

But apparently sensing the implication of Obasanjo's failure to register, the INEC officials made telephone calls repeatedly while pleading with the former President to give them more time for an expert to come to the registration point.

The expert eventually arrived around 12.45pm and had Obasanjo registered 20 minutes after.

Speaking after, Obasanjo, who did not show any sign of annoyance, described the incident as the "hiccup of a new process."

He, therefore, cautioned Nigerians against castigating INEC over the shaky start of the exercise, saying it was normal for people to experience difficulty in handling a new programme such as the technology- driven voter registration.

He said, "Whenever you are starting a new programme like this, it's likely to have hitches until everybody masters it. Today (Sunday) is the second day. I believe that by the middle of this week, both the people who are carrying out the registration, the technicians and INEC at the highest level will be able to make this work smoothly.

"So, I don't believe that we should now start to castigate and to condemn. If, of course, by the middle of the week it's not working as it should be, we will all see and then those who designed it would have to advise us how we go about it.

"But for now, let's regard this as the hiccup of a new process."

Reacting to journalists' question on the possibility of extending the voter registration, the former President maintained that it was too early for anybody to start thinking of such.

Obasanjo said, "No, it is too early; that's why I said by the middle of this week, whereby three or four days would have gone, then those who are there would know that anything that you do for 14 days, and four days have gone you and haven't done one-quarter, then it requires some form of rethinking.

"Let us not prejudge them, let's give them time to think and rethink if rethinking is necessary."

Obasanjo's experience, however, appears better than that of the President of the Senate, David Mark, who was not able to register after spending more than two hours at ward I Otukpo, Benue State.

Mark had gone to a registration centre in the ward at 10 am on Sunday with his wife, Helen, but was advised by INEC officials, who said they were having problems with the DDC machine attached to them, to go home and return later.

When he returned to the cente at 4pm, he made efforts to be registered but the machine still did not work.

Disappointed by the development, Mark advised INEC to put its house in order to make the voter registration a success.

He said, "I have made spirited efforts to register to no avail. I went to the registration centre about 10am. I waited for more than two hours and nobody could be registered. I returned at about 4pm yet nothing could be done.

"INEC must put its house in order, otherwise this whole exercise would be in jeopardy. We cannot afford anything that would threaten the conduct of the forthcoming elections. INEC must sit up and save us this embarrassment."

The President of the Senate added that reports reaching him indicated that the DDC machines were not functioning.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Benue, Alh. Nasiru Ailara, later visited Mark in his residence to appeal to him for his understanding.

"We have identified the problem, and provided a solution with a new software that would address the problem. Please accept our apology for the inconveniences," Ailara said.

Jokes Etc / How To Write A Good Resume/career by abasifo(m): 7:46pm On Jan 15, 2011
Here's a type of resume/career direction you may want to
avoid,

My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I
got canned. I couldn't concentrate.

Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just
couldn't hack it, so they gave me the axe.

After that, I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited
for it - mainly because it was a sew-sew job.

Next, I tried working in a muffler factory, but that was too
exhausting.

Then, I tried to be a chef - figured it would add a little
spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.

I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I
couldn't cut the mustard.

My best job was being a musician, but eventually I found I
wasn't noteworthy.

I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have
any patience.

Next, was a job in a shoe factory. I tried but I just didn't
fit in.

I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I
couldn't live on my net income.

I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance
company, but the work was just too draining.

So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I
wasn't fit for the job.

After many years of trying to find steady work, I finally
got a job as a historian - until I realized there was no
future in it.

My last job was working in Starbucks, but I had to quit
because it was always the same old grind.

So, I retired and I found I am perfect for the job!

Jokes Etc / Which One U Dey by abasifo(m): 7:07pm On Jan 13, 2011
Top Reasons for Being a Tenor:

-Tenors get high without drugs.
-Name a musical where the bass got the girl.
-You can show the sopranos how it SHOULD be sung.
-Did you ever hear of anyone paying $1000 for a ticket to
see The Three Basses?
-Who needs brains when you've got resonance?
-Tenors never have to waste time looking through the self-
improvement section of the bookstore.
-When you get really good at falsetto, you can make tons of
money doing voice-overs for cartoon characters.
-Gregorian chant was practically invented for tenors. Nobody
invented a genre for basses.

Top Reasons for Being a Bass:

-You don't have to tighten your shorts to reach your note.
-You don't have to worry about a woman stealing your job.
-Or a pre adolescent boy.
-Action heroes are always basses. That is, if they ever
sang, they would sing bass.
-You get great memorable lyrics like bop, bop, bop, bop
(boong ching , boong chi-ching).
-If the singing job doesn't work out, there's always
broadcasting.
-You never need to learn to read the treble clef.
-It doesn't matter much if you get a cold.
-For fun, you can sing at the bottom of your range and fool
people into thinking there's an earthquake.
-If you burp while you're singing, the audience just thinks
it's part of the score.

Top Ten Reasons for Being a Soprano:

-The rest of the choir exists just to make you look good.
-Can you name an opera where an alto got the man?
-When sopranos sing in the shower, they know the tune.
-You are never going to sing the alto part by accident.
-Great costumes: like the hat with the horns on it.
-How many world famous altos can you name?
-When the fat lady sings, she's usually singing soprano.
-When you get tired of the tune, you can sing the descant.

Top Ten Reasons for Being an Alto:

-You get really good at singing E flat.
-You get to sing the same note for 12 consecutive measures.
(tang , tang , tang , )
-No warm up needed to sing 12 consecutive bars of E flat.
-If the choir really stinks, it's unlikely the altos will be
blamed.
-You have lots of time to chat during soprano solos.
-You get to pretend that you are better than the sopranos,
because everybody knows that women only sing soprano so
they don't have to learn to read music.
-You can sometimes find part time work singing tenor.
-Altos get all the great intervals.
-When the sopranos are holding some outrageously high note
at the end of an anthem, the altos always get the last words.
-When the altos miss a note, nobody gets hurt.

Education / Lasu Students Announce Own Resumption Date by abasifo(m): 5:20pm On Jan 04, 2011
Students of the Lagos State University (LASU) have fixed January 5, 2011 as their own resumption date.

Mr Agboola Seriki, Public Relations Officer of the institution’s Students Union, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, on Sunday.

NAN reported on Sunday that the students took the action even as the institution’s striking lecturers and the state government were yet to agree on terms to end the over three month strike embarked upon by the lecturers.

Seriki said the union had informed all students of the institution of the resumption date and had received assurances that they would converge on campus on the announced date.

``We have resorted to announcing our own resumption date owing to the failure of the state government and the striking lecturers to agree on terms to end the crisis.

``For over three months that the strike has endured, it is the students that have been at the receiving end.

``We cannot continue to remain at home and waste away; that is why we are resuming on our own even without any formal statement from the school authorities,’’ he said.

On what the students would be doing when they resume without the lecturers in class, Seriki said the students would rather keep that a secret.

``Well, we are the students and when we say we want to resume, I think the university is resuming too.”

Crime / Police Shoots Man For Laughing by abasifo(m): 7:55pm On Dec 28, 2010
THIS is getting out of hand, believe me.  Our men are becoming uncontrollably reckless with fire arms and this calls for great concern.  We have to tell ourselves the truth.  The other day,  it was a violent protest in Ajegunle over the killing of a defenseless young boy by a police Corporal who was on illegal duty.
Three days later, another trigger-happy police man attached to MOPOL 49, Lekki  who was on a special duty at a bank on Marina , unwarrantedly shot dead a bureau d’ change operator while he alleged attempted to defraud an old woman.

The matter is still on as I speak with you,   Then just last Thursday,  another one opened fire on another young boy at Lekki Phase 1;  claiming that the victim was hysterically laughing at him.  Can you imagine that?  In those days, it used to be accidental discharge, but we are no longer confronting accidental discharge today.    It is now  willful shooting of innocent persons.” These were the words of a  senior police officer at ‘Area A’, Lion Building Lagos.

Perhaps, the above reaction of a senior police officer who craved anonymity aptly summed the unprofessional and reckless attitude of some of our policemen, especially the rank and file on the street today. Their latest victim is 27-year-old Udeme Akwa-Jackobson, an  Akwa-Ibom state born construction worker.

It is only a medical miracle that would prevent the promising young man from being amputated as he has since been moved out of the private hospital he was being treated for lack of funds.   He has resorted to traditional herbal treatment for now pending when police authorities or other kind-hearted Nigerians, might come to his aid.

How it all started.

Visibly writhing in pains at his Shell estate one-room apartment, in Lekki Phase1,  Udeme whose bandaged but swollen left leg is already emitting offensive stench as a result of the gunshot wounds;  was however,  able to muster the strength to speak with Crime Guard.  To him, the incident could not have been ordinary because, “I was not the only one there; so how come the police took on me?  I believe there is spiritual undertone.”   He said, “that day was on a

Thursday, April 15, 2010 and time was about 5.00pm. I was outside in front of my house chatting with some of my friends about sundry issues.  We were talking about a maid who desperately needed another job and we mentioned one lady in the area that might help her.  Just then, the lady we mentioned passed by and we all laughed at the coincidence”.

The shooting
Soon after, a bus painted in Lagos commercial colour popularly called Danfo pulled over and stopped beside us.  Inside the bus were two mobile policemen.  One of them alighted and came to me, held me by my shirt and asked why I was laughing at him.

I was confused and shocked altogether;  to say the least.  But he was serious about his allegation because he was violently pulling me towards the parked bus.  All entreaties from my friends that we were not laughing at him fell on deaf ears.

We were shocked the more, when another mobile police man who had long parked his motorbike by the gutter where we were, came up to corroborate the allegation.   As the argument raged, one of the mobile policemen that came with them tried to calm the situation by saying that we could not have been laughing at his colleague.

When the argument degenerated into slaps and blows, a Pastor who lives on my street came to the rescue and was able to free me from his grip.  But just then, he grabbed a pistol from the waist belt of his colleague and tried to hit me on the head and I dodged it and jumped over the gutter.  At that point, he pointed the gun at me and before I could turn to react to my friends shout of Udeme, Udeme, I heard a gun shot.

The police man had shot me on the leg and blood started gushing out.  At the hospital  after the shooting, the Mobile Policeman disappeared into thin air with his colleagues while my friends and neighbors rushed me to a nearby private hospital and later, Mainland General hospital.  But after five days in the hospital, things did not improve and, of course,  there was no money to procure some of the prescribed drugs.

So, my wife and some of my friends came and took me home where they contracted a traditional herbal healer for the purpose.   As you can see for yourself, it is not improving. Matter not reported and police not aware
Perhaps for fear of the unknown, the unprofessional conduct of the mobile police man was not reported in any police station; and therefore, the Lagos police command which jurisdiction the offence was committed is not aware of it.

“The matter was not reported because one, my friends are afraid that the police might turn the whole thing against them.  Two, we did not know the identity of the policeman who shot me, but the one who was begging him to leave me alone is a known person.

Though I do not know his name, he is attached to the Shell estate,” Udeme said.

But the Command’s spokes person, Mr. Frank Mba said he was yet to be informed about the shooting incident.  “I am not aware of it.  A policeman shot somebody just because he claimed that person was laughing at him?  I am not aware,” Mba maintained.
