Bro, in as much as I appreciate ur good intentions and what ur trying to imply in ur statement above. That one dey!!!

But since it's a well established fact that a majority of the North & South can't stand each other & can't coexist as a ppl under one nation. And as it stands now it's already too late to try flushing the bad blood which has now become a norm without inflaming some powerful elements from either side.

Don't u think we'd be better off as separate nations that can share common interests in trading via imports & exports since both regions need some of the resources from both sides as u implied? Just asking sha....
You have a very valid point bro, if we can't live together it will be better for every ethnic nationality interested in having their own separate nation to go their separate ways

Lets pretend the agitation is sound during Jonathan regime but why the insult now. Do you what? There are many people who dont like Buhari in the north but the more Igbos insult him the more the northern anti Buhari become Buharist. Because they realize it is not about Buhari but a northerner occupying the chair.

Some Igbos want presidency: Who will support them? The illiterate awuasa or Yoruba bastard ?

Some want war ? Can they fight Nigeria?

Some want referendum ? Can you force it on Buhari by insulting him?
I live in the north and I know Buhari has a very large supporter and also very large crowd of people that are not too comfortable with the way the nation is going.

You have a very good point on how people view some of the insult directed towards the person of Buhari. A section of the country took Jonathan loosing a free and fair election too serious and start making stupid comments that draw hatred from other section of the country.

But we the youth should not play into the hands of these trouble maker that want to set our nation on fire. I respect your opinion btw

We all need one another in this great country, the problem is we hate one another yet depend on the crude oil from the delta. The only thing keeping Nigeria as one nation is the crude oil money that the elite love so much.

Northerners are peace loving people like the majority of the southerners but in every society we have unscrupulous elements that want to have division create problem and make comments that will see the nation on fire.

Our problem is the rich against the poor not Hausa vs Yoruba or igbo vs Hausa etc. But we are been divided based on ethnicity and religious differences to never be united to fight our common enemy which is the political elite

Mynd44 lalasticlala the bold above is an insult which means barao means thief and banza means bastard. You should shut your mouth if you cannot express your views without insult.

In my earlier post I said Kano specifically: The Dangote paste company in Kano is owned by his brother and not him. You are yet to mention any of his investment in Kano thats one. Secondly all those negligible investments are not of two 30% when compared to that of the south. He should thank Dangote not we. He is nothing but moral liability.

mynd44 @bolded above
You insulted me first in your earlier post. Dangote don't have any obligation to invest in Kano state, he is a business man and invest based on market forces and availability of raw materials. One of the largest dangote cement factory is in kogi state ( or kogi is not north enough?) and the second one is in Ogun state ( state with abundant limestone deposit, closer to the large market lagos) and his refinery is in Lagos ( a state where majority of refined petrol is been consumed daily.

I know so many norther that are gainfully employed at dangote factories in kogi state, three of my class mate FUT Minna are currently in India undergoing training in preparation for taking off of dangote refinery. He has done well to empower the youth without stealing a kobo taxpayer money.

I am not in support of ipob but the ultimatum issued by the arewa forum is uncalled for at this time in our national life

I believe is it time the northern youths take full control of their future and the future of northern Nigeria. Looking for to see how the northern youths will make a clear statement in 2019
Most of these northern youth are still part of the elite, they are the children of criminal politicians or prominent personality and emir from the north, they are not like most of us that are children of farmers, road side carpenters, petty traders and hardworking women and women in the civil servants. They represent the same elite we are all talking about and their view is more myopic and repulsive than that of the elders.

I am sorry for sounding a bit harsh, you have a valid point about the monopoly enjoyed by Mr dangote, I know that you will agree with me that in a capitalist society like ours every entrepreneur wants to enjoy some level of monopoly, so it it is the responsibility of government and the competitor for bringing a level playing ground.

Another problem is the short sightedness nature of some of our elite, most of them prefer to invest their money oversee or building stupid filling stations, ghost city in Abuja than invest in real sectors like manufacturing, solid minerals and agriculture, these are the people responsible for most of vacuum enjoyed by dangote

Thought as much. So you'd expect me to wield a magic wand and expect that development happens out of the blue?

The transformation and growth of a state largely depends on the number of foreign investors attracted to the state and not in commissioning bridges and flyovers! What is wrong with you people? What measures are on ground to assure investors that there would be a short term ROIs?

I hear this Africa leaders, science and technology bullshit from you guys yet we struggle as a country to produce pencils! Pencils!!! Our toothpicks are still being imported and last I checked, there is no single toothpick producing company in the South East and you are day dreaming science and technology and harnessing the power of the cosmos.

The entire South East contribution is only 6%, beating the NE by just 2%. Where would the bulk of the state's government come from in a state as Enugu where civil servants constitute almost 85%? How then do you transform Ebonyi in eight years without accruing debts while maintaining the balance?

I used to think I suck at Economics but the bulk of you on here are just crass dull.
The development of a state or a community depend heavily on how well she can feed her citizenry, how well she can generate the much needed revenue through tax and the amount of mineral resources available that can be mined for hard currency or as raw materials for local industries.

People are missing the importance of small scale industry like a small fabrication outfit employing three to ten people on an average or small furniture workshop playing thesame amount of people, the multiplier effect result in large number of these small scale industries producing basic goods and adding values to basic agriculture product both for local consumption and export.

Nigeria energy crises is one of the major reasons why we import basically all our consumer goods into the nation, it is cheaper to import most of these sub standard goods from China than to produce them locally, couple with the make quick money syndrome that has become and habits in this part of the world, people readily import things to can produce locally thereby weakening the local economy.

Most the state in Nigeria will do better in the long run without oil money, they will have to take tax seriously, lol inward more into agriculture, solid mineral extraction and support indigenous industries to grow.

people just come here to talk about generating more revenue and I ask how? do you tax people that are downtrodden? states like Lagos and Ogun are increasing their IGR because they could. how do you tax people in Ebonyin, Ekiti and the likes? I have been in govt and I know all these things are not easy. its easier from the outside. when you take a look at party politics, who to appoint, the structure of the cabinet and all, it takes a large chunk of your revenue and you are left with nothing else to take care of infrastructure and investment.

Then others talk about technology. The truth is we are not a technically oriented people and we should stop comparing ourselves with japan and China. its not just going to change with Biafra. you dont become japan immediately you get biafra or O'dua republic. you still remain nigerians with different nationality this time around. your corruption, crime and orientation still remains the same. secession is good, but do not expect much from it.

The problem of Nigeria is inbred in our culture and nothing can save us, not restructuring or secession.
We developed these culture of laziness, greediness, looking for easy money due to easy crude oil money over the years and they are not inbuilt, we can be changed when we are forced to look for other alternatives

I fear to say that Nigeria was much better under the British. The useless military leaders we've had since then have only taken the country backwards.

Age does matter, because there is a peak and a person who has passed that peak has nothing to offer. Technology is the way to go and an 80-year old person cannot process that.

@bolded
The day we get that right, is the beginning of greater things for Nigeria. Unfortunately, that is not the case right now.
I just hate this slave mentality of most of us, Nigeria was never better under the British. At independence in 1960, how many megawatts of electricity was been generated for a population of over 55m? how many motorable road do we have? how many universities do we have? what was Nigeria per capital income in 1960? At independent Nigerians inherit a deeply divided nation built on divide and rule system with no strong institutions.

9jakohai:
Me , I am not in support of restructuring....but not because it is a bad idea...or a wrong idea. (I also don't like secession, but one of the reasons why I gave up on the 2014 conference was because they said secession is off the agenda. )

Infact, the governor of Ebonyi state has given good reasons why Nigeria cannot restructure.....overdependence on Abuja and by extension Niger Delta Oil for their daily needs...plus a poor IGR base.

(Mind you...that shows that Ebonyi governors are not doing well at all for their state. If Fashola could increase Lagos' IGR massively in his time in office as Lagos state governor...why can't Ebonyi...or Osun for that matter. Governors are Nigeria's problem).

But the main reason why I don't back this restructuring thing is

1.People who talk of restructuring promptly start talking of returning to regions.....the idea being that the region would benefit from the resources it produces. That is going to lead to Niger Delta being used to benefit the old Eastern region....and that runs counter to the current resource control agitation.(You see why many Minorites are avoiding Biafra...even though it might techincally benefit them better than Nigeria...because no Biafran agitaitonist has clearly explained how they will handle the resource control issue in Biafra. You can abuse me now...but it is the truth. No Biafra...until Kanu and IPOB address that question).

2.You think that if we return to regions....every region will suddenly develop its resources like that? It took decades for the North to become a groundnut and cotton producing region. By the time of Independence...the SOuth West and South East thad taken 80 years to become the major producers of cocoa and palm oil they were. What I am saying is...restructuring basically amounts to one part of the country telling others to go and starve for the next several decades...while they enjoy oil money (I am from the SOuth South by the way). That is the real reason why the Hausas are not backing restructuring...because they know that it would leave them seriously broke.....and that in turn could create crisis that would affect the rest of the country.

That is why you cannot have restructuring without sorting out the resources quesiton...the way new states back in the day used to sort out the dividing up of assets. To not do that is sucidal and unrealistic.

3.And anyway....Nigeria's economic system is seriously faulty.

You know...the reason, why we do not have light and water 24/7, is because it does not impact seriously on our ability to make money for the treasury. Developed countries have light and water in abundance because if they don't .....their ability to make money for their treasury would be impacted.

This one in Nigeria where we sell groundnut, oil, cocoa, cassava, palm oil, yams, etc...and share the money...when we should be using what we have to make manufactured goods that COULD potentially earn us MUCH MORE MONEY...and even be MUCH MORE BENEFICIAL to our politicians and elites. But most Nigerians are short sighted....they see money as something to be shared...not something to be made, and dobuled. And until we become self sufficent, and less resource dependent...restructuring, even peaceful secession...would be impossible. Yes...Czechoslovakia split peacefully.....because both parts were already dependent on manufacturing, and innovation.Nigeria were we are dependent on sharing money...what is going to happen to the North when it is cut off from Niger Delta oil? How about Igboland? South West too would suffer. North Central too as well.

My issue with Nigerians is....better focus on making the current structure better. Vote wisely, harass your leaders, deal with the corrupt, and make sure your people do what you voted them for. Restructuring , as it is now....won't save you.
I am in support of restructuring because the current system can never work. The current system breed laziness, it creates an opportunist elite that sits idle and makes politics a do or die affair.

States like Bayelsa will lose over 70% of their oil wealth to the federal government because most of this oil is offshore and any resources offshore will belong to the government and if whatever money the state government gets from the onshore oil is not used properly by the state government the citizen of the state will question them.

Oil only contribute 10% to Nigeria GDP but fund over 90% of government revenue because they government is too lazy to have a strong tax system in place. All these will change with a restructured system, state will be forced to look for alternatives source of income like tax, solid minerals extraction etc.

you guys have short sight..I am talking of the long term. After all this same Ebonyi generated 11billion naira in 2015 when things where better and what happened to them in 2016

so u don't know how much kwara will generate this year

you get my point??
Kwara state is much larger, with more arable land, bigger economy than Ebonyi state, it is not rocket science that kwara will continue to do better than Ebonyi state
PoliticsRe: We Don’t Want Restructuring - Governor Umahi by abdulwastecx(m): 8:28am On Jun 29, 2017
Enuguboy4nsk:
he is right.

Even Enugu state too will lose out because there us nothing being produced in Enugu here... coal is already obsolete and no good market or industries large enough to meet up with the state needs .

truth is that more than 30 Nigerian states will suffer.

Umahi is only being truthful and real...states like Ekiti;Osun;kwara will even be worse BC at least Ebonyi has Agriculture which the aforementioned states lacked.

Dont insult...just bring up a superior argument if u have one

modified**

for those quoting me wrongly..Nigeria looks uninterested in coal esp when there is abundant gas to generate electricity.Don't you guys also know that Ebonyi has the oldest and largest cement factory in west Africa including other mineral deposit yet IGR is low

take for instance Imo state iGR (2016) is 5billion
divide 5 billion by their population which is 3.9million and you will see that IGR doesn't reflect the true thing esp when considering the population there
In the short run majority of the state will find it difficult to pay salaries, and fund their jamboree government but with time these states will adjust or be merged with viable states.

Coal is not obsolete, the USA generates about 60% of power from coal, we are still a developing country and we use our coal to generate the much-needed electricity. Enugu state will have a huge market for her coal deposit and she will also put in place a very strong task system in place to generate the much-needed revenue to run her government.

Ekiti, Osun, and Kwara have more arable land, bigger population, closeness to a bigger Lagos market than Ebonyi and are currently doing better in term of internally generated revenue. Who told you they will do worse when we restructured?

Having a large gas reserves doesn't stop you from generating electricity from coal because we have a very huge energy demand, we are talking about a country of almost 200m people here.

Even though I know the capital may not be readily available, but I see a lot of heavy machinery like bulldozers, tracors, etc that are broken by the wayside. I feel they can be learnt and reparied and turned into money making ventures.

There's no reason why they can't make borehole drilling rigs that are cheap. Practically all houses needs a borehole in Nigeria. This rip off N5,500 per meter or whatever drilling fees will be sidelined when competition is stiff due to readily available locally manufactured drilling rigs.
I don't think it will have a positive impact on the environment if every houses drill a borehole due to the such effect on the stability of our earth crust. What we need is community development program aim at having a central borehole system or a mini water treatment facility for a small community where every member of the community can easily tap into the central system using a simple pipe network system. This will reduce the negative impact on the society, make repair, operation elf the facility easier and cheaper

Good idea
Was just thinking if solid blocks would be better than hollow blocks for bungalows....since most bungalow walls are load bearing walls.
My problem with solid block is the stress of laying them, it is not popular among masons or bricklayers in the south west or north, they always have difficulties in setting them due to their weight.

6'' hollow block will work just fine for your bungalow because the anticipated load that it will carry only comes from the light timber roof load. But in other to hide your conduit electrical pipes as stated above by ''Oga hajj'' you will need to use 9'' for your exterior walls.

6'' solid and 9'' blocks are very closed in price, using 6'' solid will not save much money
