Nigeria should focus on the basic. Provide Security first. Once you have finished Boko Haram, Kidnapping, Cattle rustlers, Islamic fighters - then you can start to talk about dealing with South East secessionist.

Countries that have sorted such basic - like Kenya or Ghana - can focus on
Good roads
Electricity
Good railways
Running water
You do realize that providing the basics like electricity, housing education etc. Will end the terrorism we've been experiencing the problem in the north east is the lack of jobs and the lack of good education solve those two problems and the insurgency would end very quickly meanwhile for the secessionist the same solution they just want development they believe they're marginzalized hive them basic infrastructure and development as the rest of Nigeria and we have no problem and why does Kenya need to focus on electricity and running water if they already have it as you constantly claim.

Height is attractive, yes, but not more attractive than wealth and brilliance.

By the way, 5'7 to 5'11 is unbelievably terrific.
For some they want both being wealthy and brilliant isn't enough wiithout some height with it

I feel like that growth is my maximum and being 5'11 and not 6'0 feels like an insult

What about the Congolese?
Nairobi wants to be Kinshasa so bad.
I think Congo-Kinshasa will be the most powerful black nation on earth eventually.
Or is this thread a competition of Anglophone africa only?
You're honestly not wrong they have the resources and the population to do it without problem but until foreign medlers and bad leaders are gotten rid of the DRC cannot progress but in my opinion I still believe Nigeria will become the strongest and most prosperous black nation in the world with the population we have, the ingenuity, the innovation, the knowledge we can go so far with just the knowledge of our citizens all the government needs to do is provide an enabling system

Good roads
Electricity
Good railways
Running water

With just those the citizens would be able to solve all of Nigeria's problems whether it be manufacturing or housing they'll find a solution if the government gives them a base even with all the bad leadership we've been able to put our country in an amazing position so if and when we get a mediocre or hopefully a good leader then the kind of growth you'd see would be unseen in the history of economic growth

There is no Ghanian company even worth 6B dollars...unless we include Ashanti Gold. Safaricom just invested 1B dollars in Ethiopia...in license fee alone...that is Ethiopia single largest FDI in history...and now real investment in building the network, staff and such is just started.

Safaricom was awarded a license to operate in Ethiopia for USD 850 million spectrum fees and it disclosed that it will have a total of USD 8.5 billion investment in the coming ten years.

That is just one company - in every sector - there hundrends of kenya companies - investing money in East and Central Africa - since 1990s.

Only South Africa are better than Kenya.
All this hyping up yet Safaricom just got kicked out of DRC? And Kenya regionally in Africa isn't ahead of Nigeria. Nigeria has companies open in Tanzania, Gabon, Togo, Mozambique etc. And they have a decently large market share we recently built a massive cement plant in Tanzania, Kenya doesn't compare to Nigeria in size of economy, number of businesses and presence of it's businesses across Africa

Ewww not Moghalu. That man is a certified ass licker. sad
He said he was imperfect did he not? If you were a true Nigerian you'd understand the system of respect for your elders to a certain degree he never said he was a good leader simply wished him happy birthday and moved on and if you even bothered to read his manifesto you'd see why he's a good potential candidate for Nigeria
Reducing recurrent expenditure by 50 % ( Currently eats up 98% of revenue)
Restructure the nation into a federalism
Draft a new constitution
Create a fund to make PPP projects more accesible
And that's just the start there's nothing wrong with Moghalu and Nigeria needs change NOW, this party MOP that I introduced you to cannot win an election come 2023 we need a new progressive leader who will give us the constitutional and economic reforms that Nigeria is begging for and if that doesn't take place soon then Nigeria will cease to exist

Oga, Awo is synonymous to Western Nigeria, MI Okpara is synonymous to East, Awo was only leader of opposition for a while before he got into prison for an alleged coup.

He is just like Tinubu, you really can't compare Tinubu to Goodluck Jonathan that's how your comparison looks, no one is talking about western Nigeria, we are talking about Nigeria wait until there is thread for western Nigeria. Awo was a regional champ and leader of opposition he never smelled the center.
I don't care about what you think it is in our own opinions Awo's social democracy drive has influenced me, Okpara's industrialization and agriculture drive influenced me, Odutola's has influenced me due to his industrial projects in weaving, gold, plastics, tyres etc. There's no basis for a argument we're talking about who influenced OURSELVES the most not who influenced Nigeria the most stop crying

Another ignorant and dumb post. It IS compulsory in many foreign 'educational systems' as I just showed you where some American parent is moaning that their kid HAS to read the book! Plus it is NOT ''only a few schools'', and it is not ''to make themselves seem exotic or different from the rest''. Not sure why you feel so damn inferior.

''Things Fall Apart is usually studied in the Australian curriculum under Area of Study 1 - Text Response.''

https://www.vcestudyguides.com/blog/things-fall-apart

Does THAT sound to you like ''only a few schools who want to show they are different and exotic'', or whatever rubbish you typed?

US report from 2008:

''50 years later, ‘Things Fall Apart’ is still required reading''

https://dailyillini.com/features/2008/02/14/50-years-later-things-fall-apart-is-still-required-reading/
It isn't compulsory across the board in the west as you claimed and based off of basic google searches it isn't required in ALL American schools but many do have it as required reading but the ultimate point is you were wrong it's not compulsory in England, America, Australia or anywhere else in the west.

If at all you put MI Okpara it was an after thought, it is just like putting Ahmedu Bello among the most influential Nigerians, if not for the coup who could have known Bello outside the North, Okpara and Awo could have been closer on the ranking but Awo went ahead to be a minority leader but Awo was not in the same page with Zik, for Zik was a head of state.

So when you talk influential Nigeria, Zik first then, the Nzeogwu, Awo then Tafawa, Ojukwu and Gowon was in a class of their own, Ojukwu's influence is more about the East generally so if you want to be sincere there is no way you will put all three westerners when you understood they were not quite that influential apart from Fella.

The other two is pure tribalism from you, Awo doesn't rate in top 5 most influential Nigerians of all times, unless most influential westerners, he would still be dragging with Tinubu, Obj and Akintola.

Even MKO was more influential than Awo at least June 12 was in his honour so I don't know why your lots always celebrate Tribalist like yourself.
It is in my opinion not in yours i'm not tribalist either the inclusion of Odutola is because he's related to me so he has influenced me to want to start business in Nigeria, Awolowo influenced me with his social democracy projects for development in Nigeria like free education, free healthcare and organized agricultural systems and Okpara influenced me with his massive industrialization projects as well as his mass agro processing projects so stop talking as if i'm you this is about our own personal opinions not others

Don't speak from your limited experience. It is still up to schools to make a book mandatory for Literature students, and it has happened a lot with Things fall Apart.

Excerpts;

''i read this along with my 10th grader, who was assigned this ....WHY? In a day where we are, in my opinion, struggling to keep children engaged and gaining knowledge, is this relevant?!?? as an adult, it could have been worse, but I am beyond confused as to why 15/16 year old children are required to read this

See All 2 Answers

Karen Yes, it is relevant, because the global south is still, in this day, now, struggling with the legacy of colonization/occupation.

I read it at my 10th-grader's recommendation.''

How is it my limited experience? It isn;t compulsory in any educational system as you claimed only a few schools choose to add it into their own curriculum and they're mainly trying to make themselves seem exotic or different from the rest or are trying to gain mor African students it isn't a general thing

I put Awo even on my own list but I noticed this whole tribal Bulshit, as usual and you proven many times not to be beyond tribalism, coining the name naira is what you use as defence and being the minister of finance and coming second in an election, someone that was ousted out and was leader of opposition so the guy who designed the Nigeria flag would be what, yeye dey smell, no wonder naira falls like what I don't know.

Awo never held any central executive position for a start the OP too was a Tribalist no one puts Ojukwu without putting Gowon and still makes sense to me, Zik was the first Head of State for instance, Awo was a regional champion at best, he never held any central executive position, wonder if he ever came into Nigeria, his biggest central position was leader of opposition and a mere appointee
How am I tribalist for saying Awolowo is an influential Nigerian? Did I not also mention Michael Okpara or you didn't read that

He literally coined the term for the currency Naira and made the foundations of its institutions and creation? Like why're you lying Awolowo was popular outside of the west if he wasn't that popular outside of the west why was he the second most voted for candidtae in 79 as in he had more votes then Zik and Kano combined.

This is not about money.

Do you know that Chinua Achebe is required reading in US and UK secondary schools?

An average American or Canadian kid can relate the entire story of Things Fall Apart, plus explain the cultural impact and ramifications of the novel.

Things Fall Apart is required reading in Russian schools.
Bro that's a lie i'm a student in the UK and we haven't had to read things fall apart it was optional not compulsory same goes for those in the US why do you think their knowledge on African culture and life is so limited? It isn't compulsory anywhere it is just an optional book recommended to students what is compulsory is Shakespeare Tempest, Macbeth, The Merchant Of Venice and a few of his over plays, An Inspector Calls and Of Mice and Men those are compulsory readings as much of Nigeria as you will get is Adichie in her Ted talk of a single story

Kenya is considering using reserves from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to compensate for Chinese loans it repaid after the Treasury dropped an earlier request to defer debt payments.

The Treasury says it could use its additional allocation of IMF reserves in Special Drawing Rights (SDR) assets, which can be converted to government-backed money, as one of the options to plug the budget hole.

SDRs are the IMF’s unit of exchange based on sterling, dollars, euros, yen and yuan, and can be used to settle obligations like repayment of foreign public debt.

Director-general for public debt management office at the Treasury Haron Sirima said Kenya has an a raft of options including “use of additional SDR allocation by the IMF” to fill the cash hole left after Nairobi started to service loans from China in July.

Kenya had expected to extend a debt repayment moratorium from bilateral lenders, including China, which started in January 2021, by another six months to December 2021, saving it from making payments of nearly Sh50 billion to Beijing lenders.

Chinese lenders, especially Exim Bank, were uncomfortable with Kenya’s push for extension of the debt service suspension with rich nations, prompting delays in disbursements to projects funded by Chinese financiers.

This forced Nairobi to drop its push for the debt repayment holiday extension by China for fear of straining relations with Kenya’s biggest bilateral creditor.

Dr Sirima said the Treasury has other options, including seeking grants from development partners, changing the funding for “specific” capital projects to public–private partnership (PPP) and tapping the IMF reserves.

I mean you're only half right in terms of the refinery there is a lot on ground up to 67% completion rate and in terms of solar energy Nigeria doesn't have the money for it, Nigeria if we had 100% connectivity for electricity we would need 180 000MW of energy and to build enough solar plants to produce that much energy would cost up to 100-130 billion dollars ( Bevause we'd have to import all the equipment as well ) And added to that is the transmission infrastructure which would run the cost up to 200-300 billion dollars or more so for now we should depend on cheap energy solutions like gas or coal and hydroelectric

False.
The development of Europe was driven more by mercantile, competition, scientific progress, better instrument, machines, steam engine. In fact thermodynamics already was developed by 1712!

Property rights, work ethics, education, artistry also played major roles. You just have to recognize the fact that Europe's Great Enrichment was inevitable. Any country that can make things others wanted would make it big, like Britain. They could have just traded to get the raw materials and labour needed. Cost of goods would just have been higher. Just like China is doing today.

But because Africans and South American tribes were weak, they were low hanging fruits for the likes of Britain.

Colonialism contributed but without it, nothing could have stopped Britain's growth. You know why? They did away with conservatism.
Colonialism and slavery contributed less than Africans are made to believe to Britain, it was just a foolish unnecessary evil that wrecked Africa and benefited some greedy individuals in Britain. That's why Britain let it all go easily by 1960.
Read this with an open mind and see why it's silly to think Britain wouldn't have prospered without slavery and colonialism:

Can you speak english? I very clearly said they still would have progressed and developed but not at the same speed if you take away trillions of dollars from a nation will it still move at the same speed? Of course not I never said it would be undeveloped I just said it would have developed a lot slower and not reached the same milestones as quick as they did with slavery and colonialism
