Selling/Marketing on Facebook - Part 1 Another smart idea of doing business by selling online is the use of a facebook page. A facebook page is just like your regular facebook account except this time it's customized for businesses and organisations rather than for individuals. It's different from a facebook group which is more or less a forum for people to come and discuss or participate in a particular topic of interest. On a facebook page you have likes which shows you how many people have shown an interest in whatever you're offering and hence want to connect with you through your posts. An example of a facebook page is www.facebook.com/abujafood where in this case people interested in City guide, food and lifestyle information about Abuja can connect to get reliable information. Another fun thing about many facebook pages is that they tend to incorporate an entertaining element to keep engagement on! Abujafood.com uses this strategy by organising a thrice weekly contest (Free Lunch Contest on Monday, Free Credit Wednesday and Free Cash Friday) where people who like the page can participate and be rewarded for their loyalty! |
Selling on Twitter One thing many small businesses in Nigeria don't realise is that Twitter is a very effective marketing tool. I'm talking from experience because 2 of our listed business members on www.Abujafood.com have received direct sales through tweets we handled for them. One of our clients a first rate Nail Spa in Abuja received a lead who happens to be one of our followers on @Abujafood (won't mention names for obvious reasons) after reading a tweet from us in which we stated first hand the name of the business and the quality service they render. That very follower retweeted and followed up with a visit to the Spa and the rest they say is history. One client making a sale through us via twitter. Another client, an educational consulting firm who also happen to be agents to 10 recognised universities in the US, UK, Canada and Australia got a direct client who is just a few weeks from starting her Degree program in England. She like many of our followers found an interesting tweet which she favorited and followed up with a phone call leading to an appointment and eventually a counselling session from which she landed a course of study and university of choice. The zesty and aromatic Ginger root is known around the world as a "wonder spice". It has a strong reputation for preventing and curing many ailments as well as being an excellent addition to many different recipes. Originating from South China, the history of the Ginger root dates back to the writings of Confucious, a famous Chinese philosopher in 500BC. Below we look at 6 great reasons to add Ginger to your diet. Boosts the Immune System One way the body’s immune system works is by detoxification. The body naturally detoxifies by sweating which frees it of waste materials thereby strengthening the immune system. Ginger promotes an increase in blood circulation due to its hot aroma that increases the body temperature and induces sweating. This leads to the formation of a vital biochemical – dermcidin - which fights germs in the body. Reduces Inflammation Ginger contains a very strong anti-inflammatory substance called gingerol which is used in medication that treats osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Ginger helps kill free radicals that cause stiffness in muscles and tissues in the body. Again a teaspoon of ginger juice between meals and before going to bed is recommended for fighting inflammations. Great for Digestion Ginger is great for tackling digestive problems. Gingergols sooth the stomach and help produce bile which aids in breaking down and digesting food. When you’re having stomach upsets like indigestion or even flatulence you can look to the Ginger root to help out. Not even stomach acidity is spared with ginger juice. Lowers blood sugar level For diabetics, a teaspoon of ginger in a glass of water or with tea every morning can help regulate blood sugar levels. Helps fight Cold The effectiveness of ginger as a cold remedy is unproven, however it is widely used to alleviate the worst cold and flu symptoms by decongesting your nasal passages, aiding breathing and stimulating blood circulation. Drinking Ginger as a tea or juice makes the perfect cold fighting agent. Helps with Nausea Motion sickness and even sea sickness is alleviated by adding a teaspoon of 100% pure ginger fruit juice to a glass of water. It is great for reversing symptoms of nausea, by helping to reduce the uncomfortable feeling and instantly soothe your stomach. http://www.abujafood.com/lifestyle/health-a-fitness/1031-the-health-benefits-of-ginger-root-.html |

Abuja’s monthly book feast continues its non-stop literary entertainment this month when it features debut author Samuel Kolawole author of The Book of M , alongside bestselling author of Switch Deji Fisho whose new book Decoded was recently published. Joining the duo is debut playwright, Dili Nwankwo, author of The Verdict of the Oracle. The trio will feature in the November BookJam at the Silverbird Entertainment Centre Abuja on Friday 30th November. November’s Book Jam authors are a diverse and talented trio that will surely thrill Abuja’s literati. Ibadan-based, Samuel Kolawole is a fresh voice in fiction writing whose debut book is a must read for thriller and suspense lovers. Deji Fisho, banker and business developer, has already established a reputation for innovative thinking and leadership. A Trustee of the Abuja Literary Society, Fisho’s self-made entrepreneurial success is evidence of the focused can-do spirit from which he authored the bestselling selling "Switch" in 2010. His new book "Decoded" continues the trend of transformative motivational writing for Nigerian youths. Abuja-based Nwankwo is a Law professional whose deep interest in creative writing has been sustained for several years with forays into poetry and books for children. Samuel Kolawole’s prose fiction, The Book of M, has received numerous positive reviews from literary acclaimed magazines such as Pulp Fiction magazine and StoryTime of South Africa, Nigeria’s Next newspaper and Eastown Fiction, of Michigan, USA. Described as a dark, gritty and frightening tale in several reviews, Kolawole’s The Book of M touches upon the themes of sex, superstition, lust and greed. It combines “imaginative and detailed writing,” says Jenna Cato Bass, Co-Editor, Pulp Fiction Magazine. Deji Fisho is the founder of "Switch development initiative" an NGO with the drive to rewrite and redefine the values of Nigerians. He is an entrepreneur, International motivation speaker and a force to reckon with in the financial and consultancy circles. His first book titled "Switch", explores the dynamics of leadership and transformation. His recent book, "Decoded", is a handbook of a kind to prospective entrepreneurs. It is a motivational read with practical and challenging passages that gives the reader focus and direction on whatever ideas they intend to develop. Dili Nwankwo is a graduate of Law, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). His first book The Ambitious Village Boy was published in 2003. An author of several children’s book such as Ogadi, The Golden Girl and Jay-Jay Weeps from Sleep, he writes poetry for which he has received awards. Verdict of the Oracle is his first step into playwriting. The drama centers on the phasing out of traditional practices following the arrival of Christianity in a community it shows the idiosyncrasies of the earlier and traditionalist beliefs and the need to draw a line between greed and personal aggrandizement. http://www.abujafood.com/lifestyle/books-a-art/1030-abuja-literary-society-book-jam-features-a-famous-trio.html |

@An0nimus *bookmarked to be printed out later*You're procrastinating here my friend how about now or at a more specific time later? Lol But I'm only too glad to share! |
https://assets.lifehack.org/wp-content/files/2012/03/beat_procrastination.jpg Procrastination is a deliberate act of delaying tasks or assignments that could be done right away to no foreseeable time in future. Simply put, procrastination in the worst case scenario can be a dream killer. It is a conscious way of deferring urgent tasks for a time in the future which is not certain. Don’t mistake it for rescheduling, Procrastination is dangerous and has left many a victim with resentments and regrets. You can think of procrastination as a way to say what is this burden I’ve been handed? how can I avoid it? That is the mindset of someone who is procrastinating. He or she looks for an excuse not to do something because of an irrational fear of the task at hand, a destructive perfectionism that keeps them from attempting the task or they just have something they deem more important to do. This is how procrastination works. You have been asked by your mum to do the dishes and tidy the kitchen before she returns home from the market and you say Okay mummy, I’ll do it, I promise. But before washing the dishes you grumble to yourself, look at this kitchen how untidy it looks with so many unwashed plates this is going to be hard for me to do. You pause for a minute then remember your favorite TV show is going to start in another 10 minutes and it usually lasts 30 minutes or so. You now say “I tidy the kitchen after my TV program” after all more won’t be back soon. Funny enough after your program a friend you haven’t seen in a while just stops by on a visit and has hot gist for you. Of course you have to hear so that small chat eventually becomes a lengthy discussion that takes your mind off the unfinished task at hand till may be late in the afternoon when mum returns home from the market and finds the kitchen untidy. If you are Nigerian, you know a nasty painful end awaits you. The tricky thing about procrastination is that many people underestimate its destructive power. It's slippery slope that can really take you spiralling down to a worse situation than you began with. There are many reasons why people procrastinate knowing fully well it’s not good for them but there seems to be a relationship between the unpleasantness of a task and procrastination. The more difficult and unpleasant a task is, the chances that you’ll procrastinate increases. Not all of us can have the gift of working under extreme pressure, so how can one avoid procrastination? Change the way you see tasks. Rather than see tasks as a nuisance, see them as necessary evils. Prioritize your needs over your wants. When it becomes necessary to work when you’d rather watch TV. you’re defining your work as – energy demanding and time consuming activities. Look at your work this way; the faster you complete your work the more time you'll have to watch TV. Set Small achievable tasks. This is a good way to break the bad habit of procrastination. Whenever a difficult or boring task comes our way, the natural thing is to resist it by putting it off till later. However goal oriented a person is, achieving your goal and overcoming procrastination becomes easier when you break it down to little achievable tasks you can complete quickly. You can overcome the urge to procrastinate by tricking yourself into completing smaller easier goals that get you on the road to completing your main goal. After all the most important lesson in beating procrastination is to begin. Compartmentalize; there’s a time and place for everything Train yourself not to mix work and play. Create a certain time and place for work that is different from leisure time. If you want to have fun, there’s time for that just as there's a time to be serious. When its time to be serious time commit to the task at hand, it should be easier to do with more practice. Punish and Reward: the Carrot and Stick Approach Another way to overcome procrastination is the carrot and stick approach; punish yourself whenever you don’t meet set targets and deadlines and reward yourself whenever you do. A good example of where this works is in the workplace where you’ve been given a target and tasks to perform, if you fail there are sanctions, when you succeed there’s a reward. In conclusion, time flies while you’re having fun, this means we tend to get easily distracted when we neglect important tasks for the fun things we love to do causing us to ignore more important things for what we want to do instead. That’s how procrastination steals our time by making us forget our priorities and in the long run causing us pain in the future. Do yourself a favor and stop procrastinating now. http://www.abujafood.com/people/be-inspired/1026-how-to-beat-procrastination.html |

^^^^ That's trouble making you know! But is she supposed to continue with a cheating spouse? |
I'll soon start a tutorial on online social media and how they can be used for marketing purposes in Nigeria! Stay tuned |
I'm starting this thread as a way of sensitizing Nigerian small businesses especially those based in Abuja about the power of using social media as a marketing tool in finding new leads, more customers and engaging existing customers. I'm sure we're all familiar with the term online social media e.g facebook, twitter, linkedin, blogs and so on. Basically social networks which carry the same power as conventional media (Newspaper, TV, Radio and so on). Social Media Marketing services are fast gaining ground in Nigeria with the advent of a few social media marketing firms and individuals who specialize in using various online social media platforms to share and distribute information and promote businesses indirectly. |

The recently held Abuja international trade fair was an eye opening event at least to some very important dignitaries such as the minister for Agriculture and his Trade and Industry counterpart who at various occasions had the rare experience of seeing ‘woodless’ furniture made of eco-friendly fiber in Nigeria by a Nigerian Entrepreneur Ms Elizabeth Asana CEO of Lizfol Corporate Ventures. As a result of their visit to the stand of Lizfol designs, the honourable minister of Agriculture commented “we have found an eco-friendly way to make furniture, save our forests and fight deforestation” obviously paying glowing tributes to Lizfol designs for making a strong case for preserving our forests and the environment while enjoying affordable and comfortable furniture. This singular discovering also caught the eye of the Director General and President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture who honoured her outstanding enterprise with an award as overall best SME Exhibitor of the year at the Fair. Shortly thereafter, Lizfol was specially picked to represent Abuccima at the third Pan African Conference Forum held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel to discuss business clusters in local economies and find new ways to boost African economies and promote exports. Obviously a small brand that started as an idea is gradually taking form as the Federal government finally through its honourable ministers of Environment, Agriculture and Trade & Industry finally acknowledge a local opportunity to boost our economy and protect our environment through Lizfol range of eco-friendly products including duves, cushions, throw pillows and many more.
