The International Food Photography Day is taking place on Wednesday 14 November 2012. The aim of the global competition is to celebrate the art of food photography in all its forms.

Abujafood.com in collaboration with @NJClicks is celebrating the International Food Photography Day here in Abuja through a food photography competition which will run from the 10th to the 28th of November 2012.

The competition is online and open to anyone who loves food and/or photography to capture very appetizing photos of food with either the use of their mobile phones, digital cameras or any other portable device that can capture pictures accurately. The key is to enable us to taste and feel the essence of your food through your photo.

Anyone interested in participating can do so by posting his/her entries in one of two ways;

Via our Facebook page
Or send an email to info@abujafood.com containing either an attachment photo or a link to an online photo with title of the email being “Food Photo Contest”
Via Twitter using the hash tag #AbujaFoodPhoto2012 and mentioning @Abujafood with link to your photo e.g #AbujaFoodPhoto2012 ---- @Abujafood your link to your photo (This option is suitable if you have online photos already on pinterest, facebook or instagram etc)

shadrach77: my two cents - when a lady says "let's just be friends" it's one of three things; (a) she is not interested and doesn't want to hurt you by saying 'no' so she is trying to let you off by being diplomatic (b) she needs you around her to act as a shield to ward off other guys (c)she needs you around her to act as a bait in attracting another suitor which she is eyeing - now in the last two scenarios, she is indirectly using you. Whenever i find myself in such situation, i'll just ignore her "friendship" and seek greener pasture elsewhere

I agree that most times she just wants to use you. Why give a guy the green light then shove him aside politely under the guise of "let's just be friends". I had a similar experience before, when I realised I was being used I simply cut-off and moved on. She tried her tricks again, this time, no response from me.

I was expecting it to be the other way round!

If you are intending on staying in Abuja for short stay and need a hotel if you can’t afford these hotels, it pays to take note of them - for navigational purposes at least.

Transcorp Hilton Hotel

This is Abuja’s most prestigious Hotel in fact it’s safe to say the most prestigious hotel in Nigeria. Located in Maitama District, it’s a beehive of activities come rain or shine even on Sundays and public holidays as the hotel never seems to run short of guests or events. You’ll easily recognize it from Aguiyi Ironsi way opposite the NCC headquarters or PHCN headquarters. It has everything you can think of in a 5 Star hotel but the rates per night are very expensive.

Sheraton Hotel and Towers

This hotel in zone 4 area of Wuse is Abuja’s second largest hotel. It too is a 5 star hotel offering world class services with everything you expect a 5 star hotel to have. It’s very popular for hosting major events including book launches, fund raising events and award nights and is patronized mostly by business folk, diplomats, politicians and high society.

Chelsea Hotel

In the Central Area district of Abuja one hotel stands tall above others and it’s the upscale Chelsea hotel which may not be as prestigious as Sheraton or Transcorp but is the heartbeat of hospitality in Central Area of Abuja. It boasts of first class facilities and services and is a major delight for many guests hungry for top class hospitality service but want to avoid the more expensive hotels of note in Abuja.

Agura Hotel

While this hotel in Area 10 of Garki District might not be your idea of a 5 star hotel, it remains a ‘veteran’ among big hotels in Abuja. It was one of the major hotels in Abuja the 1990’s before the massive explosion in the hospitality industry in Abuja. Agura hotel still stands tall among the over 120 hotels operating in Abuja.

Nicon Luxury Hotels

The Nicon group of companies that’s threatening to buy up everything in any industry they set their eyes on identified one essential need by hospitality seekers in Abuja – luxury. They decided to become champions of that niche in Abuja although the Area 11 in Garki based Hotel still has some catching up to do if it hopes to displace Transcorp Hilton or Sheraton Hotel and towers which it has some striking semblance with.

Some days ago, I narrowly escaped a very serious car accident between the Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Millennium park at around 7.30pm as one very silly driver in a bid to pick up passengers from the road side suddenly stopped in the middle lane, there were two taxis on the right lane already picking passengers. I was driving at 80km/hr and the distance between his car and mine was roughly 20 to 30 meters. I almost hit him and when I confronted him, the fool just said "didn't you see my break light?"

Another one I remember in August was how one driver almost collided with me while trying to overtake me by my left. I was already on the far left lane, this guy just drives straight between a narrow patch of earth and part of my lane from behind at full speed. I had to move to the middle lane to avoid an accident and the fool just drove on as if nothing happened.

These are my two worst driving experiences so far, what about you?

@topic, to some extent, the advent of the internet contributed to the demise of "reading". Before, one could just pick an old newspaper from the dads room and read, try out the crosswords for fun till it gradually becomes a habit but today how many people still buy daillies when you can read directly online?
You have e-books and what have you now so people can download and read online and fbk, tweet, nld at same time. Lol

Exactly Ify If solbil had read the Original Post he would have seen the part where it was mentioned that many Nigerians only see reading as an academic thing and not something you do for fun!

I prefer Tee-A on Laff 1/2 hour every Monday! His Time out with Tee A is a huge disappointment meanwhile I think Teju Baby Face Show makes more sense! If I was a sponsor, I'll go for Teju Baby Face!

solbil: if you dont know nigerians read, then its becos you dont read yourself. I read alot and you find me always in the lib. As a result of this, i know somany guys who read. If you are always in the lib, then the only people you will know are the ones who go to the lib. Not like every body abroad is always seen with a book! Infact there are reports of trends of addiction to the internet and video games in other parts of the world a trend you dont find here!

I have never been abroad before and never met a jew before but i wonder if those people are always carrying a book where ever they go. I have heard so much about those people's genius.

Really you mean to say compared to years gone by people read more proportionally (if you understand what I mean) than in times past?

Ask your lecturers for their opinion on this topic, because you and a few others read often doesn't mean most people do the same. By the way why do you read? For fun or for an exam?

The Idea of a modern day, university graduate farmer who applies modern farming practice to produce food is alien to Nigeria considering that farming is seen to be an illiterate elderly person’s occupation. That thought might soon become a thing of the past as a revolution is set to sweep the Nation’s landscape come December 2012 at the Eagle square when the Maiden Edition of 'the Food Expo' will hold from the 7th till the 9th of December.

According to the organizers led by Ms Derby Mangut, “the Food Expo is a dream come true” it’s an idea inspired by her cousin’s journeying into farming and proving it to be a profitable venture within a year even with little investment.

A film maker by training, Ms Mangut has chosen to start a career in the food industry but even more importantly she and her team members are working in partnership with an impressive list of sponsors namely; the Far East Mercantile Company, Grand Cereals ltd and Nestle’s Maggi who have shown interest in supporting the vision behind the food expo.

The Event itself is divided into 6 segments among which are the Young Entrepreneurs Challenge, kids Zone, Celebrity Cook-out and the Farmers forum to name a few.

In conjunction with the Governors Forum, the Food Expo is expected to provide a platform that will discover 12 enterprising Nigerians who would receive mentorship and training from the Pan African University, in addition to being an advocacy platform and a means of networking for local farmers among others.
