folake4u: Hmmmmm.
In Abuja, no Bolt driver had ever asked me to book offline. I don't think I've experienced that.
But coming to Lagos, my first trip, a driver asked me to book offline, I was suspicious but he then explained that the fare is not commensurate to the distance he'd cover. I just obliged him.
I've been doing offline for a while now. Didn't think it was that risky. Not everyone has evil intentions though, but you may never know. These things are not easily discernible. We have read reports of how some drivers molested their riders on Twitter, and so on. People believed their stories because the victim (rider) came with receipt and all. For someone who cancelled a ride, he/she will struggle convincing anyone. For many of these drivers, it is just greed and nothing else. Going offline is as good as canceling your ride/order and choosing to enter a 'one chance' scenario. You can easily compensate a driver who chooses to stick to the rules. You could see how concerned this guy has been about his safety and financial gains, so it is every man for himself, dear. Stick to the rules and compensate later if and when you feel like it. |

Ceeman2o: You're still replying on something you're not clear about. Listen again. As a platform driver there's no single security for me, non whatsoever so to say I would be bypassing 30% commission to the detriment of my safety is non existent. A driver has no single shield or security driving taxi in any platform. Even if I was hacked to death in any corner of the state. Nothing can be done to find my killers and that's just the truth, I wasn't expecting any security agencies to find them cos they won't find them. So as a driver going offline can not be against my security because both the online and offline is useless to my security. The riders only requirement to kill or rob me is just a prepared dubious phone number and a nickname. So who will find them?. Nobody.
If I kidnap you on my ride. I will still edit destination to wher I Ended the trip and still use your phone to request other drivers
Being on my car doesn't mean you can't change ur destination or end or go to anywhere you like, nothing concern me. So I would have no business with your whereabouts. Even if you want to jump into lagoon. No problem, after you jumped I'll still end the trip there and move on. So sharing a ride with me has nothing to do with your security In Lagos. No be bolt drivers carry you come Lagos. Even if I drop you where people you went to visit kills you, it will never consign me. Bring your case come up. Nothing will happen
Is laughable how a total stranger who's untraceable and can get away with anything with enter your car , sit dangerously at the back with bag that could contain weapons only to start suspecting a driver who has all his ID and details all in the app.
In the name of what exactly? @emboldened, In the name of going against the company's policy, Why are you so particular about this offline trip, by the way? There was a time when I was using Bolt nearly every day, and less than 5% of the people (whom I reported, by the way) asked to go offline. Why are you among the 5% and not the 95%? Do you think you are smarter than the 95%? |
Travel › Re: My Second Week As Bolt Driver by Acidosis(m): 4:53pm On Feb 14, 2024 |
Ceeman2o: What safety are you talking about. Bolt has any police on the road? abi bolt is the man on the steering or its online bolt that will stop you from having accident?. Can you highlight any usefulness of online bolt if not to eat their commission?. Thing is what you don't know you won't understand it .
Ordering a trip online doesn't stop you to screenshot the drivers plate number. That's all the security that is needed. Going online doesn't secure you. . If I drive you nd Purge you off at the lagoon, we're all gone. No be online dey drive you. Your utmost safety is from the drivers ability to take you to destination without involving in accident.
Going offline doesn't stop you from reporting any bad experience with bolt or reporting to security agencies. There's always details of trips both cancelled or successful. So don't assume offline means no trace.
Only security you have is to snap or share driver info on ur app before he goes offline. And more over, can you highlight or tell the online community how many reported or broadcasted theft from bolt drivers and at the same time show us uncountable number of car hijacked and death of drivers which police has successfully convicted or caught.
Between you and a bolt driver, he should be the one scared . But every driver knows there's no single security for them. They don't ask for more, it's taxi business and so..
It takes a drivers full ID and particulars to drive on those platforms while it takes a passenger just a fake phone number to order ride in other to kill, thief or kidnap a driver. So who should be afraid of offline again?
If I meet you and ask you to pay me what ever that's on your screen for offline and you refuse. I'll just evict you, you can look for who would be running slave and rat race on bolt with your insecurities
All the deaths and car theft of bolt drivers in Lagos, have you render any voice for bolt to atleast profile there passengers to reduce evil attacks on the innocent drivers.
Whatever thing that could go bad with you on bolt, there's nothing bolt can do for you if not to ask you to tell police to write or meet them for them to release the drivers ID on there disposable. That's all, police can use it to do whatever they can.online Bolt will not stop you from the evil waiting for you.
Even if a driver cancels your ride, you can still see the ride history on ur app nd contact bolt from there. So going online has no meaning and isn't your security.
If I have bad intentions against you, I will still do it online. I'll kill you or kidnap you and still end the trip, use your phone to make series of request just to exonerate myself as the last person who carried you. So nobody is your security Mr man The funny thing about this write-up is that you seem to know all the risks involved with driving a taxi in Nigeria, yet you ignore your own safety just to evade paying a 30% commission. Why should I fight for you and other riders when you clearly don't value your own life because of 30%? Nothing I say here will change your mind, I guess, but I hope you don't learn the hard way. Simple words like "digital footprint" exist for a reason. If I am embarking on a trip from Berger to Ajah and you tell me to go offline before leaving my location, how will such save me as a rider? How will such dubious "one chance" attitude help the security agencies if things go wrong with you? You're literally going offline without traces (probably the same as shutting off your phone) so no one can trace your movement. Is that what you compare with a digital device with live location? You want me to go offline in Berger so if I get kidnapped in Ikeja, Bolt can assume I arrived at my destination safely or never embarked on the trip at all? Make it make sense. Since that map you signed up for has no value to you, I have advised and will advise again to go join conventional taxi drivers. They clearly don't need it, but you know what? That levy you don't want to pay, you will pay double to NURTW and the park Chairman. |

Ceeman2o: Who's this person. What did you know about bolt and it's driver partners. You people with your reasoning always jump on discussions you knew nothing of. Do you know any driver that ask you of offline is taking the risk of his life and car and at the same time doing you a serious favour, he has to agree on a fee which is likely underpaid compared to what the end fare could have been.
And who is your employer you used in this context. Who told you bolt employs a driver. They only had partnership which bolt had sworn to take a ridiculous 25% and amidst the economic issues, they're not backing down and decided to increase fares and reduce at will without carrying the partner driver along. What do you call such dubious and selfish partnership?
Do you have car and if you have do you really know what to means to buy fuel for 600# per litre, buy car worth millions, spend heavily to maintain it as the cars are private car and weren't made for public transportation. Spends so much on the law enforcement extortions and at the end, spend 25% of every trip embarked on.
And in terms of security. Who do you think is at risk? a known driver who has all his ID and car original particulars on the app or an unknown passenger who only provides a fake phone number and nickname.
And who made you a judge in a business you knew nothing of ?. All over the world before bolt began was there not a taxi on the road? Aside bolt is there still no taxi and all ur life how many times have you asked a taxi man on the road for his ID before he carries you. Or buses you jump in.
If you have a car ,go and use it on bolt. They are ready to welcome you a honest investor I have made my point; so always ensure you check people's profiles very well before asking them to go offline. Try that with me, and you'll be tagged a potential ritualist. We'll both have to stay online and monitor my destination together. If you want to ride offline, go and register your car with a state taxi council. You're not the only freelancer paying commission to a platform. You don't want to pay commission but wants the privileges of the platform? How does that make sense please? Go and ask freelancers and upwork workers and employers how much they pay per gig. The crazy examples you're citing aren't any different. Before Bolt, conventional taxi riders pay commission to their owners and levies. The bottlenecks, registrations, and the known faces make them relatively safe. With bolt, you can't risk my life because you want to cash out. You're not doing me any "huge favour" by choosing to drive offline. And please quit the cheap lies. I frequent the bolt rider thread on NL and I saw firsthand how you people were rejoicing for making huge money after Bolt increased passenger fares by over 50-100% before Christmas. Who wouldn't rejoice seeing how Bolt billed riders 15-18k within Lagos state?? Na only una sabi complain, yeah? If you think it is easy to cough out 8k from Ojodu Berber to Ikeja, go and dump your car and try to be a rider for once. Staying online is for your own safety too. |

Ceeman2o: Stop doing short trips. That's what's burning ur gas nd bolt commission. Aim for long trips above 5k. It would conserve fuel nd you have chances of picking another long trip to nd flo. In such cases you can easily negotiate offline. It's just easier to negotiate offline for 5k above trips than telling ur rider for offline on a trip of 2100#. It's nonsense nah. Wen you do short online trips. Ur fuel nd commission is burning but when you do long trip . You can bypass commission by offline See another terrible recommendation. Why are bolt drivers always finding new ways to defraud their riders and employers? Any rider that agrees to this offline deal should just keep some millions aside for ransom. You people are evil minded or probably just ignorant. How can any sane bolt driver propose offline in today's Nigeria? |

Nemesis0147: No be every trip you go Dey accept… And you can bargain with your passengers before coming to pick them up for a fair price if what is showing in the app is poor…if they don’t accept it….you cancel.
I use bolt a lot and when some drivers explain things to me and I have extra cash to spare….I add money to their fees and learn how to go offline too Just tell your passengers. If you try this nonsense with me, I won't only cancel the trip, I'll also make sure I report your profile for fraud. There are many taxi parks in Lagos, anyone can join if Bolt no longer pays you. |
Travel › Re: My Second Week As Bolt Driver by Acidosis(m): 11:04am On Feb 14, 2024 |
Ceeman2o: It doesn't work like that. Going to popular places or eatery will not pay him off . He's best bet is to calm down and wait for requests on residential areas nd rich neighborhoods. Once he picks passengers from there to long locations, he would wait also and pray another long distance trip back to base comes up.
Most eateries are patronized by close by residents. Which would burn his fuel and left him on lost if he constantly picks short trips. Imagine starting your car to be running pick up nd drop off for 1500,2300# nd such. Thereafter he will still pay commission. #1500 trips still exist on Bolt? Bolt wey dey charge me 5k for a 8-10 minute trip. OP is probably just wandering about, driving around town for fun. |
