tensor777: He was just being disengenuous if that is the case. Anyway the Gowon-Ojukwu imbroglio of 1967-70 was all about oil despite appearances to the contrary that it was about a tribal conflict.
One of Ojukwu's first hostile acts before secession was to seize the Federal Oil Revenues. Gowon then responded by creating states in the oil producing parts of the Eastern Region and sending the Navy to enforce a blockade. He then sent Adekunle's 3MCD to secure the oilfields and capture Port Harcourt which he was able to do by May 1968. That really ended the war as a strategic contest despite the desperate efforts of Ojukwu to disrupt oil supplies by using Colonel Achuzia's feared S division.
Gowon financed that conflict with Ojukwu with oil without borrowing a penny from anybody right up to Ojukwu's flight to Abidjan in January 1970.

Okay let me ask you what percentage does cocoa form of Nigeria's non-oil exports today? A very minuscle percentage.
Anyone thinking that Nigeria can in any way shape or form revert to the 1960s style of plantation economy is highly deluded. The world has gone beyond that stage.
Nowadays it is human ideas and scientific and technical innovations that drive modern economies not cocoa and groundnuts

crimestud: Sequel to a series of meetings between him and the defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the November election in Anambra State, Chris Ngige, Tony Nwoye is on the verge of dumping his party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for APC where he is slated to contest for the federal house election in 2015.

According to investigations which were confirmed by a close source from the Nwoye camp, Nwoye’s looming move to APC is a result of overtures by D. Chris Ngige to him to join APC ahead of the 2015 presidential poll which APC plans to use to stop President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition.

Ngige, according to sources, had been able to convince Nwoye that he was not wanted in PDP by citing events before, during and after the November election. Ngige was reported to have reminded Nwoye how the president refused to raise Nwoye’s hand at the rally shortly before the election and also how the PDP national had maintained a different position from Nwoye’s on the outcome of the November 16 Anambra election.

It will be recalled that while Nwoye along with Ngige and Ifeanyi Ubah are complaining against the conduct of the election which they all lost, the PDP National Executive through its Publicity Secretary, Barr. Olisa Metuh, hails the same election, commended INEC and accused APC of being a bad loser.

Now Ngige is reported to have convinced Nwoye to leave PDP while the ovation was high before he drew the wrath of the party by maintaining a different position from that of the party.

APC’s recruitment of Nwoye is believed to be part of the grand plot by APC to take over the south-east in order to weaken Jonathan’s base ahead of the 2015 presidential poll.
