How many Yorubas are in the east? What's the need representing a group that does not make up any significant portion of the population.

ODUA_NEGRO: why would you not deny it.....it is an embarassment on SE generally, not just Enugu.
. . .and Yoruba media ignored the news too. You don't have any case except lies.
PoliticsRe: Enough Of This Oppression And Injustice Against Igbo Traders In Lagos State! by ACM10: 7:41am On Feb 28, 2013
If Yorubas cares so much about environmental degredation, then why is Ibadan so filthy? This is a sheer hypocrisy! Fashola is simply a tribalist. He had demonstrated such in the past by deporting Nigerians. Sadly, many Yorubas did not deem it necessary to condemn his action.
PoliticsRe: Enough Of This Oppression And Injustice Against Igbo Traders In Lagos State! by ACM10: 7:36am On Feb 28, 2013
ODUA_NEGRO: Yoruba settlers in Enugu state were given land by a former governor to build a social cultural center or market (something like that), well after that governor left the Yorubas were dispossed of the land and no other land has been given as replacement.

Let everyone go back to his fatherland before this damn country turn 100
This comment has no atom of truth in it. It is simply a figment of your imagination.

Btw, what part exactly did Banjo played in the jan. 66 coup?
Do you really expect me to answer this question? Your question should be "was he involved in the coup"?
PoliticsRe: Nzeogwu; How We Killed Sardauna (video) by ACM10: 1:32am On Feb 28, 2013
T9ksy: And what does Major Ademoyega knows exactly about the coup, itself.

Considering the clime then, Ademoyega was unbelievable stu.pid at best( or just too plain niave) to swallow the story fed him

by Major Nzeogwu to the effect that a bunch of ibo boys were willing to risk their lives executing a coup just so they can

install awolowo, a yoruba man- a man their leaders helped jailed on thrumped-up charges- as the new PM.

Ademoyega was infact the last recruit into the "inner circle".

Biafra rep used to be my choice. But later changed mind after his demonstration of utter ignorance with regards to the role played by Fajuyi during the final days of Gen. Ironsi. I wouldn't want to be represented by someone who will embarrass me with his little knowledge of history. NAY!

After dumping my first choice candidate, Alex101 seems to be my next choice. I'm attracted to his militaristic approach to debates here. But. . .he's an absentee candidate. More like Odumchi in the waiting. NAY!

Reluctantly, I'm voting for ONLYTRUTH. His pacifism do piss me off at times. But his indepth knowledge of Igbo history and culture is excellent. YEAH!

Ojiofor: You are very correct my brother,Fajuyi was a marked man just like Ironsi,BTW,which Yorubaman will die for his son talkless of giving his life for an Igboman.Ironsi ADC Captain Nwankwo narrated how they were both arrested and killed and how he managed to escape there was no resistance from Fajuyi neither did he shoot one bulet in defense of his guest.
Exactly!
Lt. Walbe who was part of the hit squad that assassinated Ironsi clearly said that both Fajuyi and Ironsi were targeted. He went further to refer to the storyline from the revisionists who are bent on elevating Fajuyi to hero status as "lie".
PoliticsRe: Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland By-Election 2013: Nominations by ACM10: 12:41am On Feb 27, 2013
Andre Uweh: There is nothing to suggest that Fajuyi betrayed Ironsi. I wonder where that comes from. Ironsi's ADC was interviewed sometime ago and he didn't say that Fajuyi betrayed Ironsi.
Fajuyi had no reason to die. The coupist were after Irinsi and Igbo military officers, yet a neutral Yoruba was killed. He could have been killed because he did not consent to the arrest of Ironsi in Yorubaland.
Check out:
https://www.nairaland.com/1076677/real-story-how-lt.col-fajuyi
Fajuyi had a reason to die. There was a seminar organised in Ibadan prior to the coup. Almost all the participants in that coup attended the seminar. The coupist therefore concluded that the coup was planned in that seminar. So they marked every attendees for elimination. Fajuyi was part of that seminar. I would have loved to talk more on this topic, but I travelled to Ibadan. Could not go with my laptop. I have to post with my phone. But the fact remains that Fajuyi did not die for Ironsi.

babapupa: Should we celebrate and vote for people who are not doing their job and make them the president of Nigeria like you people saddled us with the miserableness and incompetent clown in Aso Rock?

Why don't you people keep quiet for a change?
If streetlight is one of the criteria for becoming our president, then Goodluck rightly deserves to be at Aso rock. Seriously, Govs. Chime, Amaechi, Akpabio, and even Peter Obi, Martin Elechi, Orji had erected streetlights without it hitting the frontpage of NL.

You must be confined to only Lagos if you think that it is only Fashola that is working. Some other governors are outperforming Fashola with little or no funfare. Chime erected streetlights for all the major roads in Enugu without commissioning them. Why must Fashola continue to flaunt his meagre achievement?

PoliticsRe: Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland By-Election 2013: Nominations by ACM10: 12:08am On Feb 27, 2013
Syncan: It all depends on who you decide to believe. A lot of water has passed under the bridge.
We had a debate on the issue of Fajuyi sacrificing himself for Ironsi to live. In that debate, I quoted a Northern author who interviewed an active participant in the murder of Gen. Ironsi(I can't remember the name of the officer now). Besides, I can't dig my post history since I'm posting with my phone.
My quote was culled from the book "GOWON" written by a political science professor of University of Jos. The author is also from Plateau state.

On the other hand, another officer who took part in the coup operation in Ibadan revealed that Fajuyi actually betrayed Ironsi.

I'd rather believe the account of the actual participant than that of a hack journalist.

Biafra rep: Nice question fr0m you Mazi Andre Uweh, honestly it keeps baffling me why such a selfless, 'detribalised' and principled man like Fajuyi, who died for a cause he believed in (talk about one being a martyr!) would not be immortalized, again this brings to the fore, the tragedy of the Nigerian state and our values. The federal government both past and present, as well as the Yorubas, more or less consider Fajuyi as one who was stupid for not to handing over Aguiyi Ironsi and so got what was coming to him! Igbos on our own see him as a Yoruba man who should be honoured by his own people. I believe we should honour him.
I shudder at the level of ignorance of the folks I respect when it comes to Fajuyi's debacle. Pls read some books written by the northern authors. What really transpired in the final days of Ironsi were clearly narrated by the actors in the unfortunate event.
PoliticsRe: Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland By-Election 2013: Nominations by ACM10: 11:35pm On Feb 26, 2013
mafifle: As far as i know, Igbos have ever remained greatful to Fajuyi for defending Aguyi Ironsi. He has always been an Igbo champion. Every Igbo man will always have good words for Fajuyi even though there has not been any physical display of such honour.

My personal comments.

Over to our would be Ezes.
This is becoming embarrassing!
Get your facts right. Fajuyi was marked for execution. He was later killed in the coup. End of the story.
PoliticsRe: Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland By-Election 2013: Nominations by ACM10: 11:31pm On Feb 26, 2013
Andre Uweh: To the 3 contestants: Onlytruth, Alex and Biafra rep.
Do you think it's proper for Ndigbo to honour a Yorubaman-Fajuyi who died defending Aguiyi Ironsi an Igbo head of state?
With all due respect, Fajuyi did not die in defence of Ironsi. This is a lie being peddled by the western media. Many actors in the coup had denounced the western storyline as an outright lie.

PoliticsRe: Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland By-Election 2013: Nominations by ACM10: 7:57pm On Feb 23, 2013
I nominate Biafra-rep! He is one of the few articulate, polished, strong and committed Igbo defenders on this forum. He is equally pragmatic. I must confess that I admire him.

Other nominees like Manny4life, Alex101, Onlytruth, etc deserves to be there. Manny4life is my second choice. He escaped being my first choice by whiskers. His decorum on this forum is worthy of emulation. He does not lose his cool in the face of provocation. His unique evidence-based approach to debates is what I expect of Igbo posters here. However, he is a candidate for the future. I would want him to be the next Eze after this tenure.

Fastforward to Biafra-rep. There is something about him that makes him the most suitable candidate for this post we should consider him seriously. Once again, I nominate Biafra-rep.
PoliticsRe: Prof Achebe's "There Was A Country" Is Meticulously Torn Apart & Shredded by ACM10:
Your post is filled with sarcasm and downright condescending comments designed to make mockery of me. I will give u a pass. Why not dwell on the topic instead of asking rhetorical questions that does not add value to the topic at hand. I've been down this road with Katsumoto, Ekt-bear and Aribisalao and my experience tells me that people who are quick to throw insults and jibes do not handle it well when thrown back at them. Take this as my warning shot. No need to condescend or employ bullying tactics and insults to make your comments.

You can make a valuable comment without being grammatically correct. All you need to do is to communicate. So far, you've been speaking grammar without bothering to attend to the topic at hand. You've been trying to tear down my post without providing your rebuttal. Can we now attend to the topic at hand?

texazzpete: As someone said earlier, you don't find it suspicious or even curious that only the portion of the coup against the South East leadership was 'badly executed'?
Either way, it matters not what happened in the execution. Bottom line was the SE leaders escaped murder while prominent and revered leaders from other regions were slaughtered...and that had a profound influence on the behavior of many Northerners. Surely even you can see this.
I've attended to this question. Zik was not in the country at the time of the coup. MI Okpara escaped the coup by chance. By the way, the coup led to the death of 12 politicians and officers, 2 coupists and 1 unfortunate woman(Mrs Ademelegun). Only Ahmadu Bello can be described as prominent and revered, others were more or less pretenders.

I think your problem is with comprehending written English. 'Common practice' does not neccessarily mean it must have happened in Nigeria. There had been many cases of coups in several other countries in the world...and in all armies the punishment for treason against the commander-in-chief of the Armed forces is always extremely severe and often death.
Spare me your BS! We are talking of Nigerian context.

A cursory look at your dictionary will tell you that 'conspiring to overthrow a Government' is an accepted meaning for the word 'sedition' that Damola used.
Your problem is worse than I imagined.

se·di·tion [si-dish-uhn]
noun
1.
incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.
2.
any action, especially in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion.

con·spire
/kənˈspī(ə)r/ Make secret plans jointly to commit an unlawful or harmful act.
(of events or circumstances) Seem to be working together to bring about a particular result, typically to someone's detriment.

There are differences between "incite" and "make". This is like telling me that Tunde Bakare whose speech is meant to incite the populace can be compared to the action of Oladipo Diya who conspired to overthrow Abacha.

No offense meant, but what school did you graduate from? Your mastery of English language is suspect.
This is unnecessary! Poor mastery of English language does not make me less intelligent. No doubt, you are more fluent in English language than me and you have more vocabulary in your armamentarium than an average NL. But that does not take anything away from my competence. A Chinese is not less intelligent because of his poor mastery of English language.

No suspicion or raised eyebrows from you that the random 'posting' to prisons favored only the fellow from the SE?
This is bullshyt! What does SE stand to gain by posting prisoners to the region?

So while you demand 'evidence' for the very plausible claim by the OP that Nzeogwu was training recruits for the Biafran army, you happily cling to unsubstantiated claims that Ojukwu had a hand in Nzeogwu's death.
More importantly, once again you display your shameful failings in comprehending written English. The OP was making a case that Nzeogwu who Achebe tries to dismiss as an 'Igbo in name only' was fully allied with Biafra. Whether Ojukwu had a role in his death or not, the FACT is that Kaduna Nzeogwu was killed in action fighting for Biafra. That was the point Damola was trying to make and your jibe about 'Yoruba Analysts' has nothing to do with anything.
No one comprehends English better than you grin

Damola's point is that the man fought and died for Biafra. Your rebuttal to that point is a resounding failure and a red herring.
If you have a little gray matter in your brain, you will know that I'm not contesting this point. Bros you are fighting your shadow. . . grin

The OP indicates the coup was led by officers from the South East. I don't think anyone has ever insinuated that everyone of the coup plotters were South Easterners.
Also worth noting that Victor Banjo's name should probably not be on that list as unlike the others, he always proclaimed his innocence. Either way, that scarcely matters.
Epic fail! Mr. Comprehension, the OP wrote "Igbo coup". Your defense is weak and it makes you look pathetic

In summary your 'rebuttal' showed nowhere near the level of wit and research that the OP displayed in his critique of Achebe's book. More worryingly, either from mischief or from plain challenges with English, you seem to have completely misconstrued many of Damola's words.
Yours is even laughable. By the way, what prevents you from making your comment based on your own research? Why should you mastur.bate on another person's work?
No doubt, I have challenges in English language; mind you that Igbo language is my mother tongue. So feel free to correct me. cool

Nowhere is this disappointing trait more evident in this your response to where the OP said

Five, during the Aburi negotiations, why was full reprieve for the coup plotters put on the table?

The term 'full reprieve for the coup plotters put on the table' does not mean that the coup plotters sat down at the table grin
Sorry to burst your bubble, Ojukwu went to Aburi with few aide. None of them were coup plotters tongue

dayokanu: The coupist who were so on point in every other region suddenly lost their marksmanship and bungled it when in their own region.

Im sure a 5yr old can call bullshiit on that statement
It happens!
Obasanjo was marked for liquidation in 1977 coup but escaped. . .
Babangida escaped Orkar coup with his life. . .
So, the case of Michael Okpara was not different from the above two instances.

Let me use this opportunity to attend to some of your lies that Igbos killed all the leaders of the other regions in January 1966 coup. Only fifteen people died in the coup. The civilians among them were well known to people of that era as corrupt politicians, hence the celebration in some parts of Nigeria. They are:

1. Alhaji Sir Tafawa Balewa
2. Chief Okotie-Eboh
3. Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello
4. Chief Akintola
5 Mrs Ademelegun(wife of brigadier Ademelegun)
6. Brigadier Ademelegun
7. Brigadier Maimalari
8. Colonel Mohammed
9. Colonel Sodeinde
10. Lt col. Unegbe
11. Lt col. Pam
12. Lt col. Largema
13. Major Adegoke
14. 2nd Lt Oduh
15. An unidentified soldier

I'm waiting for someone to provide an evidence that Igbo civilians killed their fellow Nigerians.

The coup was a surgical strike to forcibly remove the retrogressive elements of the Nigerian politics. The coupists did not hunt down the supporters of the kiled politicians. Which is a norm in other coups.
