@glessor,

I can understand how painful it is for you to have taken time to go there even when you were asked to come for the unit.

You have a right to be angry just as anyone else who goes through the same process.

Just let him be since you have made clear what your experience was, just let the matter die.

Honesty, transparency and professionalism is key in today's world where the customer is more empowered when compared to what used to be in the past.

Take care and welcome to the world of alternative energy.

@Afam,

I hope you didnt take that personal? Well, whatever. Its not really that important.

One thing you need to realise is that OBJ's corruption fight had only succeeded in making "heroes" out of "traitors", such that the likes of Orji Kalu and Atiku now appear to be great democrats and nationalists fighting for the masses. Yet, some of us are not distracted from the fact that these men soiled their hands.
There is basically nothing personal in your post, I only provided another view so that you will understand that you may be guilty of what you accuse others of.

noblezone:
Yet let me ask you, do you have proof of those corruption tract records you mentioned? Just like you said that there chances that OBJ doesn't own Bell, there are chances that these other guys are "clean".
I do not have any proof just as I am sure you don't have either but ofcourse you are more likely to believe any accusation against OBJ no matter how ridiculous and that is what I disagree with.

Unfortunately, a lot of Nigerians are decieved into seeing the likes of Atiku, Ogbeh, Kalu etc as heroes just because they fell out with OBJ.

mo wapa:
Why do we assume that Yar'dua is the saving grace Nigeria needs, its so pitiful how some commentators are defending 500m as if that is easily attainable for majority of the population. A heartless and stone head has fostered on us his choice and we are here debating his worth, for most people here that is a goal that might be unachievable( i know my father served this country as a police officer and never came close to being a millionaire before he died).

Nigerian need to be told how he came about such net worth, I know in this stock market generation its doable, but not in the 60s-80 without seeping or soiling your hand in questionable deals.
If this is not a pull him down kind of arguement then I wonder what it is.

Here is a man that none has been able to accuse of corruption being labeled all kinds of things just because he refused to be like the rest.

You may need to research about his family because you assume that anyone that makes money is into corruption.

From your position I am sure you will say the same thing if OBJ prefered Jesus Christ to become the next president and you will justify your position by stating that OBJ supported him, what manner of thinking is that?

PoliticsRe: 'President Obasanjo Does Not Own The Bell Schools" - Ribadu by Afam(m): 2:38pm On Mar 27, 2007
@noblezone,

To me corruption is when you declare all political enemies of OBJ as innocent ones regardless of their track records in corruption.

Ribadu has disappointed many including those of us that still prefer the selective anti corruption fight to no-fight at all.

Anyone that says that OBJ is not corrupt will be wasting time as no one can choose to become both the president and oil minister for more than 7 years without any corrupt practices.

Before now I have always quarrelled with Ribadu anytime he tries to state that the EFCC is not selective because it is but we prefer the selectivity when compared with what the status quo used to be.

What is the big deal in Yar'adua worthing 500Million naira?? we should even count ourselves lucky that there is still a Governor in Nigeria whose assets worth is still in Naira and not Billions of dollars like others. Opposition should look for issue based propaganda and not this type I think it is too cheap a plot.
I agree with you 101%. It is really comforting to know that not a single negative comment or allegation has been made against this man. Sometimes I wonder if this is happening in Nigeria, a presidential flag bearer without a dent, salvation is near in my opinion because if the head is not corrupt it will be easy for others to follow suit.

Thank God for democracy, otherwise who would have given a clean man like this an opportunity to lead this great nation.

Afam,

You have stated your opinion about the world bank and I can respect that. But what you stated is at variance with what Lewa is asserting, Lewa is claiming that the power generation contracts were inflated and that is what I have asked him to prove.

I really don't know why you were addressing your post to me, it really had nothing to do with what Lewa and I were talking about.
Unlike your earlier mistake which you corrected without even stating you made a mistake I am addressing you because you believe it is beneficial for Nigeria and that is what many are trying to prove to be a faulty position.

Are you asking Lewa to provide proof that contracts were inflated? Do you want him to make available documents to support what we know is common practice?

@Tonim,

The woman should be fired immediately so that the world bank will not use her to wreck Nigeria, simple.

The world bank is a failed institution and it is glaring with its main aim to keep under developed countries under developed. Thanks to the likes of Venezuela, Haiti and co that recognized the trap even though they did so too late.

Even though I dislike Lewa for his style of abusing people that disagree with him on this issue I am 100% in support of his position and unless we are okay playing to the gallery the appointment is good for her, her career and the world bank but certainly bad for Nigeria if she is given any chance to influence anything in the country.

So, some members of this forum are dogs according to you? It is a shame that an idiot like you will come to a public forum to label other members of the forum dogs because they do not agree with you positions which are usually filled with inconsistences, wrong premises and judgements.

chidichris:
Mr. Afam, Obj is not corrupt, what about Adedibu whom obj has confirmed as been overaged to be reformed which means bigger than the country. what about chris uba? is he corrupt or not? tell me about the must be and selected/annointed anambra governor to be Andy Uba? is he corrupt or not? tell me about Tony Annenih and Bode George, are they corrupt or not? what happened to Okonjo Iweala, was she corrupt or not?
Please stop writing my name when engaging in your useless analysis. Has anyone told you on this forum that OBJ is not corrupt?

If you have a problem understanding basic english ask any of your friends to help you explain what is being written here.

Your constant style of not understanding issues and yet using your lack of understanding to abuse others is embarassing and you should do yourself a whole lot of good to remedy the problem.

There is no sincerity of purpose on the part of the government otherwise they should have been looking at ways to subsidize renewable energy costs as other countries are doing.

Maybe its because we have oil but why not gurantee steady electricity with cheap or almost free alternative/renewable energy sources?

Well, for me, I hope that in the next 6 months I would have totally disconnected anything that has to do with Nepa in my house and/or office.

Are you surprised that he is quoted as not having so much money like the other governors who easily loot and squander public funds?

Here is a man that no one has been able to accuse of corruption, a man that recorded over N6.5B budget surplus when other governors are squandering and even borrowing more.

What do we really want in Nigeria? He could have effortlessly diverted the money he saved. I believe some people are simply not rouges like the average politician and we should commend such people that are upright.

Your components are imported, so it's the same thing. Who says generator components can't be imported too?
There's nothing evil about generators or the people importing them. Without them, things will be much worse. If we privatize PHCN properly tommorrow, the generator importer that will "sabotage" it has not been born. wink
Components like transistors, transformers, mosfets, diodes etc are used for a whole lot of things so banning them will certainly not make sense nor will it ever happen.

It is just like banning water because you want to stop people producing alcoholic drinks.

Why is the government not utilising wind energy and solar to augument the hydro and gas turbines currently being used to generate electricity?

To begin with who are these generator dealers? You may be surprised to hear names you never imagined had anything to do with generators.

@Tonim,

You been dream of me last night? How you come quote Lewa come dey agree and disagree with me based on what Lewa stated?

On my part, she can never protect the interest of Nigeria as far as the world bank position is concerned because loyalty or allegiance cannot be shared.

Both Nigeria and the world bank do not share common goals and as such one must give way. If you asked me I will advice she is relieved of her position as a minister in Nigeria with immediate effect otherwise she will become the next conduit for the world bank to deal with Nigeria unfairly.

Actually, I think inverter dealers are the problem. They are doing all they can to inhibit PHCN!! grin grin
Seun, you are not serious at all. Let the FG deal with inverter dealers if they want to because it won't affect us since we build them locally with components you see everyday in the market. It is just like focusing on PC dealers when I can go into computer village and buy pc casing, power pack, hard disk, floppy, CD/DVD, RAM, motherboard and cpu then go home and put them together with a philips screw driver. I still have a functional computer at the end of the day and that is what is important.
Technology MarketRe: do you know what an inverter is? i have lots from the US for sale at good price by Afam(m): 8:52am On Mar 25, 2007
@fntekim,

You may email afam@justwebservices.com or see justalternativepower.com for more information.

However, I must remind you that you must be crystal clear and honest with your list of appliances and expected backup time because this area is usually the main cause of disappointments since people generally tell you they want to power just TV, fan and some bulbs when in the real sense they will hook up up to 3 times the stated loads and when they start to experience lesser backup times they start to complain.

Any calculation on paper truly replicates real life scenario as regards backup so given a list of loads and expected autonomy one can tell you exactly the number of batteries you need and exactly how long all the loads connected to the battery bank will last.

Put differently, it all depends on you.
PoliticsRe: Yaradua's Assets - N500 Million: Could It Be True? by Afam(m): 8:46am On Mar 25, 2007
N500M? If you can sell a product or a service with just N50.00 profit to 100,000 people in Nigeria on a daily basis you will be making N5,000,000.00.

So one can make N500M in less than 4 months with the basic example above, so we should stop thinking it is impossible for one to make such money genuinely.

The money actually is located where people are not looking, from pure water, to maggi, to coke these people make profits in tens of millions a day even with profit margins of less than N5.00.

Yet, someone that have been in business for over 30 years is being seen as not being able to make or save N500M.
Technology MarketRe: I Need Advice On Buying A Generator by Afam(m): 8:35am On Mar 25, 2007
Inverters are not new anyway.

Many have used them before and quite a lot have had bad experiences which may have been caused by either of the following; end user abuse, low quality inverter, bad chargers that may have over charged or under charged the battery bank, unnecessarily high expectations based on service providers misinformation/lies.

An inverter basically converts the DC in a battery to usable AC. It means that the battery must be charged so most inverters come with an inbuilt charger that takes the regular AC from a wall outlet and charges the battery or battery bank (a battery bank is a number of batteries connected together in either series or parallel to deliver more power for any given backup scenario).

So, you can get an inverter that can power anything depending on your pocket. But how long the backup will last does not depend on the inverter but on the battery bank so it means you can design a backup system to last you for up to 6hrs, 24hrs or even 72hrs.

Hope the information above helps.

PoliticsRe: Eight Years Later: Power Generation Worsens by Afam(m): 8:24am On Mar 25, 2007
It is still the duty of the FG to checkmate the activities of the generator dealers who can only make money when power supply is very bad and we cannot dismiss the real threat posed by these powerful people.

On power supply, no excuse by the government can justify the current level of power supply.
PoliticsRe: Eight Years Later: Power Generation Worsens by Afam(m): 6:59pm On Mar 24, 2007
And there is no excuse in the world to justify the state of power supply in Nigeria. This is one area the PDP led government failed completely.

Yes it is not easy to make such money here in Nigeria. But what we are saying here is, Where his he getting money for all the campaigns?
The campaign is not funded by Yar'adua but by the party and PDP is basically the most organised political party in Nigeria today regardless of how we see the party.

The party as a well structured one can easily foot the bill whereas the other candidates may be looking for personal funds to use in the political campaigns.
Technology MarketRe: I Need Advice On Buying A Generator by Afam(m): 5:17pm On Mar 24, 2007
1HP = 750W

1.5HP = 1050W = about 1250VA (taking into consideration power factor)

2HP = 1500W = about 1800VA (taking into consideration power factor)

So, 2 nos 2HP A/Cs will be 3600VA (or 3.6kva)

Freezer shouldn't be more than 300W.

Total 3900VA

Making room for the starting power which is usually higher than the regular operating power we must size the generator to accomodate this short surges.

7.5kva generator can and will power 2 nos 2HP A/Cs plus 1 freezer without wahala.

For inverter systems, it would be safe to use 10kva inverter because the tolerance level is very low as alternative energy is really unforgiving for things like these.

While the cost of generators may appear small the real issue is with the fuel or diesel not to talk about the servicing and convenience.

I bought a generator for less than N15,000.00 and in one year I spent nothing less than N100,000.00 because I must use electricity in my office and yet during the day power is usually off only for them to make power available during the evenings and nights.

I sought for and investigated inverters, built one and for over 2 years I have never used a generator in my office yet I have never run out of power supply. Total cost then was less than N60,000.00 (inverter plus 1 no battery) even though after 18months I turned the battery bank into a 2 nos battery system.

If planned properly, an inverter and an appropriate battery bank would be a very good alternative to generators and unpredictable cost of fuel, diesel or servicing.
PoliticsRe: Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili Appointed World Bank Vice President by Afam(m): 3:09pm On Mar 24, 2007
Who benefits from this development, the world bank, Nigeria or the woman?

Some of these positions are carefully filled by people that will become links for the world bank as regards their maain business - giving loans that are usually too difficult to repay.

Do not see why they would happily appoint a serving minister as a world bank VP to over see a whole region if they have nothing to really gain.
