Don't mind Asiwaju, even though I believe he did well in Lagos, he is a typical Nigerian, always seeing the faults of other people without acknowledging his/her own.

Comparing the two trips Atiku's case is a national embarassment.

@BigB1,

To be honest with you, you have a problem, you assume your position is the right one and others are missing the point.

From the responses on this thread it is very obvious that your support for such nonsense call by the US is in the minority and infact an insult to Nigeria and Nigerians.

I wonder how you believe that Nigeria is blessed with retarded leaders yet you have the guts to ask for IBB to be given another chance after plunging this country into the most dangerous form of corruption by institutionalizing it.

Re: Free domain names

People should not accept any offers for free domain names because they are usually tied to a package which you must be paying for otherwise you lose the domain names.

It is better to pay N1.00 for a domain name than to get a free one. With N1.00 there is a monetary commitment so the provider cannot withdraw or seize the domain name should you decide to move away from the provider for whatever reasons.

Many people have run into problems with this type of free offers and many more will still experience the same problem if they fail to think well before accepting them.

Highlights of the occasion included the introduction of Chief Emeka Okafor as the governorship candidate of PPA in Anambra State as well as the singing of solidarity songs for Kalu who was later renamed "Bush of Africa" by his esteemed supporters.
Meanwhile, Kalu, on Wednesday, warned that any attempt by anybody or political party to rig the 2007 general election would be an invitation to anarchy and disintegration of the country.
Bush of Africa indeed. That may be correct sha given the fact that Bush has been a monumental failure as the president of the US. I hope his supporters are not indirectly mocking him without his knowing.

You know what our Army boys are like. Remember all those stories about them burning police stations?
You guys should focus on issues you are clear about.

No soldiers were killed in Odi. About 6 policemen were kidnapped and later killed by some miscreants in Odi.

The incident concerning soldiers was in Benue State where about 30 soldiers were killed by the townsmen of the former amry chief Gen. Victor Malu who had his hoiuse burnt down and uncle killed when soldiers retaliated in his village. Funny enough he justified the Odi attack but wondered why his uncle had to be killed by the same Nigerian army he was the chief of army staff for before retirement.
PoliticsRe: Buhari May Not Contest April Election by Afam(m): 5:24pm On Mar 14, 2007
Atiku was indicted and a white paper released, ordinarily he stands disqualified but I guess he is only taking advantage of the many loopholes in our constitution to kill time and enjoy the immunity the office carries otherwise by now he may have been sent to jail.

Our senators missed a huge chance to remedy a lot of mistakes in our constitution when they discarded every single amendment all in the name of 3rd term.

I hope we will not spend another 4 or 8 years to draw up another list of constitutional amendments.

Its a shame that Utomi is not campaigning as much as he should do. Maybe financial or logistic reasons you know.
However that being said, the North/South power shift agreement though very necessary for stability is not backed by any law. Practically it is natural that power will shift to the North but you can't say Pat Utomi is not in the race because if not for anything he is recognised by INEC.
We also have to have a contest and most of the northern opposition to Yaradua represesent everything we don't want as a nation in 2007.

While the election is almost a formality, for the records we have to pretend their is a contest between Yaradua and Utomi who happens to be the only Presidential candidate we can look up to from the south. The likes of Orji Kalu are simply a waste of space.
I guess I agree with your response in its entirety. It sure would give a sense of a real contest.

I simply don't think it is right for people that surround him that give him hope that he could win the next election.

I gave candid advice to a friend that was once aspiring for the presidency but couldn't get a ticket so he now settled for the senate for Lagos West under one of the new parties.

People should be able to draw a line between wishes and reality.

Buhari's case will not be concluded before April 14, besides that it is the problem of ANPP to worry about and not Nigeria. No one should loose sleep over his candidature because the race in my view is between yaradua and utomi.
Utomi? Where? Niger Delta, Lagos or Nigeria?

Has he started any meaningful campaign? Has he visited the North, South East etc to campaig and tell them why he should be voted for?

Personally, any southerner that is vying for the presidency at this time in Nigeria is only wasting time. I guess people just make money from feeding some of these politicians what they want to hear and not what they should hear.

On Buhari, having led a coup in Nigeria before it is an insult on Nigerians to allow him take part in the very institution he forced out using the barrel of a gun, an action that brought about the likes of IBB, Abacha and their attendant problems.

It would have made sense but that would still amount to government interference and the government I believe wanted a free and fair licencing process for the GSM licences available.

If the same type of openness is employed in everything the government does then Nigeria would have been a lot better.

On more investemnt vs more to pay theory, it is flat wrong and defies all logic. Competition results in lower prices and better quality of services.
Technology MarketRe: How Much Is Ups Inverter Somebody Help Me Please by Afam(m): 1:33pm On Mar 14, 2007
You do not need a 3kva inverter, even a 500W inverter can do but the lowest configuration we build is 1.5KVA which is more than enough.

As regards pricing, in reality whether you pay too much or too little for an inverter system is immaterial, what is important is the reliability of the inverter and the warranty that comes with it. We offer 1 year full warranty and we repair or replace completely at no cost as long as it is not due to end user abuse.

We have installed a 5kva inverter from Mega Plaza that cost N150,000.00 that packed up under 4 days and we were asked to repair and separate the charging portion since the inverter was utilizing a single transformer for both the inverter section and the charger which is not ideal even for an automatic switching type.

As for battery bank sizing, see the reproduced content below

++++++++++++++++++++++
Battery bank calculation

How do you know the number of batteries that will provide the backup you need?

To begin with, it is assumed that you have calculated the total load you want to provide backup for.

For this example let us say you need backup for 1 TV, 1 laptop, 2 fans and 4 bulbs.

Estimates

1 TV - 140W
1 Laptop - 100W
2 fans - 200W
4 (15W bulbs) - 60W

Total - 500W

So your load is 500W

Reminder: If you have a 500W load and you need to size your inverter make sure that you will accomodate for surges (starting power which may be 2, 3 or more times the rated power) that means for a typical 500W load you may use any inverter from 1000VA up.

Let us assume we want our backup to last for 24 hours non stop assuming that all the loads will be running concurrently here is what you do.

500W x 24 = 12000W or roughly 14000VA

Divide this by the acceptable depth of Discharge of most batteries (80%)

14000/0.8 = 17500

This represents your total power need, so you must provide a battery bank that can handle this.

Again, let us assume that you want to use the 12v 200Ah battery with total power of 12x200=2400

So, you get the number of batteries by dividing your total energy needs by the rated power of any battery you may choose to use, in this example we will be needing

17500/2400 = 7.29 = 8 batteries

So, if your backup plan changes to just 12hrs instead of 24hrs, you can safely use the same inverter but with 4 batteries instead of eight batteries. You can double the battery bank to 16 if you choose to design for 2 days or 48hrs.

Just remember that you can design for any lenght of backup time as long as you have the money to pay for batteries.

Battery prices (we do not manufacture them, use as a guide)

12v 200Ah (regular wet cell type)- N26,000.00 per unit

12v 200Ah (gel type) - N44,000.00 per unit

12v 200Ah (dry cell type) - N55,000.00 per unit
Reasons why inverters are better than generators

1. Inverters run silently
2. Inverters do not cause pollution
3. Inverters do not need fuel or diesel to run
4. Inverters are easy to operate

Come to think of it, we do not have a generator at our office and still we never run out of power supply, need we say more?

also GSM call costs are high because OBJ greedily auctioned the licenses and caused these companies to pay an unecessaryily high price, plus there is no regulation to guide the way they operate. they are allowed to get away with murder! forget NCC they are just sleeping dogs.
There is no issue of greed as regards the GSM licence.

The Dutch auction style was adopted to promote transparency because any company that failed to get a licence would have claimed that the government gave the licences to their fronts or friends.

The process was a huge success and should be commended.

We must learn to apportion blame appropriately.

Though a lot of of would support anything that would bring the looters to justice it is equally important that things are done right.

If 6 members of the state house of Assembly can constitute a majority in a house of over 20 members then we will be in a real mess.

Dariye has not been cleared of any looting charges, just the process of impeaching him and it is important we differentiate the two.

Dariye has a case to answer no doubt but the issue here is the method used in his removal which was very strange and unfortunate. Only six members of the state house of assembly represented the majority, imagine.

After May 29, we shall know how far with those that immunity clauses are currently protecting while they loot Nigeria dry.

The problem you have is that you are ready to support anything that favours you regardless of how wrong that thing is.

The same senate would have been dismissed as carrying out the instructions of OBJ if they had decided otherwise just as you believe EFCC is simplying following orders from OBJ.

When you lack objectivity it makes it difficult for your positions to be taken seriously.

For you to canvass for IBB to rule Nigeria again goes to show how well you love Nigeria.

@adconline,

I must admit that your suggestion makes sense as regards looking for a way to resolve this power issue but until we do so the surest way to maintain a stable nation for now is to allow power to rotate between the North and the South.

If we push for the 6 geopolitical zones then it means that either the North or the South can hold on to power for a possible 24 years.

We must fashion out a way to solve our political problems, I guess we have been importing a lot of things including governance.

Big B1:
AFAM: could you please give us 2 sensible reasons why we shouldn't have Arabic on Nigerian currencies?
1. Arabic is not our official language neither is it even a local/native one.

2. Arabic is based on religious stand and Nigeria being a multi religious nation need not promote any thing perculiar to one religion or even dabble into any religious issue for that matter.

Hope the two reasons are ok with you.

As for North, South rotation, that might be the status quo, but what I believe is that the time for change is now. So Afam stop analyzing it the way you are. Reality also says that Nigerians are very hungry people right now and deserve a change. So forget all this reality bullshit and deal with the real issue on the ground, and that is how we can all come together for a change.

God help Nigeria
The problem is that you are only looking at this issue from one perspective, not the complete picture.

That the North allowed an all Southern presidencial race in 1999 was not a mistake, it was a calculated effort to ensure the stability of the nation which is far more important than all the grammar.

Unless we are talking about another country I fail to understand why you ignored one of the very controversial issue in Nigeria today which is ethnicity and the attendant suspicion that comes with it.

The time for change may be now but you must take a holistic view of what is happening to begin with.

Ok, let Utomi go the Northern states and tell them why they need to vote for him. You complain about visibility when he does his campaign on the pages of newspapers, TV and internet.

If he had honest advisers by now they should have told him that a Southern presidency for now is not feasible.

I am an Igbo man and would also want a Nigerian president from South East but with the reality on ground today rotational presidency still makes sense until such a time we all will decide how best to govern ourselves.

Those supporting and telling Utomi he can win are like those telling Atiku that come May 29, OBJ will hand over to him. Lack of sincerity.

@BigB1,

I do not know the percentage. Some say 60 - 40 others claim 50 -50, but for me it does not matter.

Let me reiterate, the federal government should not get involved in religious matters for the interest of peace.

If the arabic inscriptions were put there because the majority of the North were used to Islamic education I think it makes perfect sense to remove them now that the Hausa language can effectively represent the meaning of the naira denomination just as Igbo or Yoruba language even though the 3 major ethnic groups are just 3 out of so many ethnic groups in Nigeria.

Or, can you state why you think we need arabic inscription on our naira note in this age and time?
PoliticsRe: Why should any Nigerian want Arabic on Nigerian currencies? by Afam(m): 6:38pm On Mar 05, 2007
Exactly, Spanish people is not the same as Spanish religion (if there is anything like that) and it has nothing to do with their currency.

In our own case, do we have arabs in Nigeria or is the arabic language strictly based on the language of the Holy Quran?

Religion and State should not be mixed for the interest of all.

The same way I have not bothered to know anyone working in EFCC is the same way I have not bothered to know anyone working in ICPC.

Apart from the people heading the 2 organisations which is even public knowledge I do not believe trying to know the members is an excercise worth doing.

@topic:

To understand why, you've got to be open minded and think broadly.

Nigeria is a nation that comprises of 2 major religion groups. One of these groups happens to belief in Arabic and I do not think it is a crime if they want Arabic on Nigerian currencies; after all, Nigeria is also their country.

In other to move forward effectively both groups must learn or know how to compromise and respect on another.

It is simple, Unity should be our best friend if we want to live as one and live in peace.
Arabic is not our language whether local or borrowed. I fail to understand what religion has to do with inscriptions on the naira notes.

As a matter of fact it is not proper for any nation to dabble into any religious affairs to avoid problems.

I agree that we must learn to live together, tolerate one another but to allow arabic inscriptions on our national currency is neither beneficial nor necessary.
