As for Kalu, please wrong political choice. If Kalu had turned Abia into a functional state, people will not think twice before voting for hin
You see, this is what people expect from Igbo candidates which i find funny considering that the presidents we've had since this 4th republic did not do any wonders of note. From Obasanjo to Yaradua to Jonathan to Buhari. Did they turn any state to dubai before they became Nigeria's president. How then do we expect those things from an Igbo candidate. There was even a time some people were playing with the idea that an Igbo candidate must be able to speak the 3 major languages to be considered and it's laughable to say the least.

The way Nigeria is structured, no Igbo man or a southern for that matter can become Nigeria's president without either luck or goodwill from Northerners. The political structured is skewed in such a way that it just doesn't favour some people unless we restructure the country.

There is a reason these so called godfatherism wont work and it is because of not wanting to grant concessions. How many none indigenes are commissioners in the SE? Is it even possible for an Abian to be a commissioner in Anambra or Owerri, he/she proves himself then goes back to Abia to contest for a senatorial seat?
You can't compare any state to Lagos. I understand that you referring to Rauf Aregbesola going from being commissioner of works in Lagos to Governor of Osun state. This is actually a rarity and there aren't so many people like Aregbesola and it can almost only happen in Lagos because of the cosmopolitan nature of the state.

It also seems you still don't understand the behavioral patterns of the Igbo. It's a culture over there for one person not to dictate to another except the person's livelihood directly depends on that person. In Enugu for example, we have a quasi god father in the person of Jim Nwobodo who after contributing in making Chimaroake Nnamani Governor, was sidelined and rendered almost useless by the same man he helped. The same Chimaroake made it possible for Sullivan Chime and was also sidelined. No Sullivan Chime mad eit possible for the current governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and has since left PDP for APC. These things just don't work in the SE. Even as respected as Ojukwu was, there were people in the region who worked against his interest.

This is not the worst time for Igbos, it is actually the best time for Igbo piliticians but it takes some dynamic thinking to realize this. Say what you want about Tinubu but he understood this early and he played the game well, "you cannot go and play in the big leagues if you do not have big players who turn up and show up".

What does that mean? Look at the present crop of Political leaders in the SW and immediate environs (from the 6 states to Kogi and Edo) and you can actually pick enough people called "Tinubu boys" who have political clout and weight. These are peoole who have been tested and have the strenght and dynamism. Even those who are deemed estranged like Fayemi and Fasola. And guess what, they also show up meaning they hold down their own house and can turn up political numbers anyday. Do a number of Tinubu Boys in Lagos alone and be shocked, from Hamzat to Leke Pitan. Not trying to praise Tinubu but this type of alliance is needed. I have not seen one single politician in the SE that commands such respect accross the board in the SE. How can you position yourself for National politics if you have not conqured regional politics?

How can you hold your own when you can't show up to a party meeting with atleast 15 boys who are willing to work for you from all the states? Almost every SE politician is just popular in each of his/her state. This is the problem governors who perform like Obaino and talkers (even though he does too much) like Peter Obi has. They need people to fight for them and hold down other states for them.

You call it godfatherism, I say it is alliances. Imagine if Okorocha can boast of having a huge support base from not just Imo but also Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers and Enugu. That is 5 states. He is already in a good position for any political negotiation and he is more likely to get what he asks for if he wants to form an alliance with anyone.

Saraki did not become this influential by locking himself in Kwara did he? No, he played his politics in his region. Same as El Rufai. You guys have no idea the politics that happened on the morning of the primaries between Fashola, El Rufai and Tinubu. That could have cost President Buhari the ticket if not for alliances.

This is also the problem Akpabio has, his support basically stops in Akwa Ibom (which the governor is doing his best to uproot) outside the state, none. Atleast Amaechi even though he is as dramatic as a woman(no disrespect to women) but he is bringing his boys out and giving them posts who will in turn spread his own political clout. This is not national politics, this is regional oooo.

People wonder why the Tinubu group can be so confident about Lagos? Cos they have done the work of 100 years. They have almost every traditional leader, every market leader, every motor park, and almost every structure on the informal side and the formal side, they allow the social media boys do the dirt fight. If you dont know, you cant beat the Tinubu boys on twitter and Facebook. They are too crazy to fight.

This is time for SE politicians to forge intra-regional alliances. Have one or two politicians in the SE and parts of the SS who can boast of atleast 30% of voters in each state in terms of senators, HoRs, state assemblies etc and then launch for the National scale.

Oh, this victim thingy and expecting things to fall into your arms has to stop. Pick yourself up and stop claiming marginalization; everybody in Nigeria has been marginalized but not everyone choose to wear it on their sleeves. Stop attacking other tribes because you feel they have it better or they made better calculations, if you lose, take that L with your chest, go home and work on it, come back to another fight smoking and looking new (political fights are not every 4 years, they are every re-run election, every party ward primary, every local government poll) put your players in position that will help spread your influence so when they call your name in one place, the response is heard from 7 places. That is political influence.

And politicians have to stop looking like tribal bigots (even if you are, you are a politician, polish yourself). See how commissioners in Lagos, went to be senators, ministers and governors. Dont restrict your planning to one tribe. Ambode did a lot of the financing of Edo politics on Tinubu's behalf now, they have a governor they can plan with. Governors in the SE have to capture grounds outside their state, make none indigenes commissioners and advisers and send them to be senators and what have you in their states.
You made a good submission but it just seems you don't understand the idiosyncrasies of the south east as compared to the north and the south west. You can never have that one person that yields a lot of influence in the SE. The only person that comes that close was Ojukwu and even when he contested, he struggled win tin the SE. The south east is egalitarian by nature so the magic that Tinubu performed in the SW cannot be replicated in SE or atleast will be very difficult to do. Orji Uzor Kalu tried it and he failed and that's why you see him shouting everywhere that Igbos are not united. Even Rochas tried it and he failed mainly because they felt he was leading people to the wrong party.

The God fatherism thingy won't work in the SE and that's the honest truth. We don't believe in a centralized leadership. The only thing that could work is key and notable politicians coming together to form an alliance. That;s what APGA was supposed to achieve but...

Et tu Afam4eva?

Afam4eva i am disappointed in your write up. You started your write up very well, but ended it wrongly.

Like you said, the problem of the East is the East and they should work on themselves, both on the areas of strategy and making themselves relevant by banding together as one voice.

For you to somehow now start throwing jabs at the South-South,is an approach in the teachings of a defeatist mentality.

Why cant you guys be "A MAN" for once and accept your short comings?if you guys are not blaming the North, you are busy blaming the West, and now you have added a new dimension to it by blaming the minority South-South.

Afam when will you guys blame yourselves for your failures?
I understand that you're from the south south but what has to be said has tonne said. These people have added nothing to us despite making them our Kimber one allies . All we get is people accusing us of langrabbing and everything under the sun. What I spoke is the gospel truth even though it does n out sit well with you. It's high time we started realigning ourselves with blocks that really matter.
PoliticsIgbos Need To Stop Acting Like Minorities And Play Nigerian Politics by Afam4eva(op): 12:18am On May 13, 2017
You know, this is actually one of the worst times to be an Igbo man as far as being part of the Nigerian entity is concerned. We know that since the end of the civil war the hate for the Igbo man has been engraved in the minds of the average Nigerian, from the west to the North and even to the South-south. Though the Igbos did a pretty good job despite the adversities by pulling themselves out of the rubble and from 1999, we started to enjoy some level of prosperity politically, even though i feel it wasn't enough considering the fact that we're part of the tripod upon which this nation was built. Atleast it was a good start.

However, a little more than a decade later, the Igbo nation is looking more like a conquered territory. Some people blame it on wrong political calculations and alliances while others blame it on the hate that the Nigerian state has had against people of Igbo extraction. I would blame it on the unwillingness of Igbos to play politics the Nigerian way.

It has come a time that we need to forego the emotions of the civil war and solidarity with any group and play politics the way the Northerners play or atleast, go the route of the Yorubas. These people have mastered the idiosyncrasies that is Nigeria and have seized the moment to put themselves at a stage that will benefit them. It seems the Igbos are the only majority group that have failed and looking like a minority group by the day. Instead of deceiving ourselves by concocting spiritual alliances with a region known as the south-south or Niger Delta or whatever they want to call themselves these days, our alliances should face westwards and to the north. The people from the south-south are the most ungrateful humans ever to walk this part of the world. How can one explain that a group as big as the Igbo race put all their eggs in one basket for a man known as Goodluck Jonathan who wasn't even an Igbo man and as soon as he lost, his people started throwing abuses at us.

The first mistake you don't make in politics is to bring yourself down to align with minorities except it's for your own interest. It's high time we stopped being emotional and moved with the tide and align with satan if need be because contrary to what a lot of Igbos may think, we're no saints and nobody is looking for a saint in Nigeria. As long as you're crooked but appear friendly, people will respect you.

So, what exactly did i say?

This is a great feat for Davido. I remember when 2face released a song claiming he did it with R Kelly. Few weeks later, it was discovered that he just took RKelly's voice from another song and infused it into his. That was the biggest lie of the year. What 2face couldn't achieve is what Davido got cheaply.

lalasticlala Seun
Musicians like Davido, Wizkid, Tekno, Patoranking etc will do better than the likes of 2face and Dbanj internationally not necessarily because they're more talented but because Nigerian music has already been exposed to the world by the likes of 2face, DBanj, Psquare and co. So, new artistes kinda have it easier and will break into the foreign markets easily.

Tell us the company that you're hosting with and their methods of payment...

While you're at it, one thing you can do is to get a domicillary account and request for a debit card. That should work.

Since you're in a hurry, you could either have someone pay for you while you repay them in naira or move your website to a Nigerian host for now until you resolve the payment issue.

Btw, may I use this opportunity to briefly talk about the 'NEW' NAIRALAND!

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time, so I think I can make an informed opinion (though unsolicited) about the current state of the forum...

Methinks @Seun and @lalasticlala are doing an incredible job in keeping the forum alive-especially in light of other competing forces! I really like the fact that the front page is regularly updated & breaking news are readily pushed to the front page!

Having said that, I think @Seun & the MODs must not forget that NL is a forum and not a blog! Thus, unlike lindaikejiblog that is currently struggling to survive because of strong competition from the likes of instablognaija & other Instagram blogs, NL is unique because it primarily relies on posts by Nairalanders.

Therefore, NL needs to ensure that only quality 'amebo' news make it to the front page. Front page Priority should be given to enriching threads. This will encourage more members to create threads. I am saying this because I just stumbled on so many wonderful threads that ought to have been moved to the front page.

Cheers to all Nairalanders!

Open a thread about it, let's have a discussion.

Romance9 Tips For Creating The Perfect Wedding Gifts Registry - Palmfront.com by Afam4eva(op): 12:30pm On May 11, 2017
In Nigeria, creating a wedding gift registry is gradually becoming accepted, as couples now look to get gift items they really need.

Wedding gift giving is a way for friends and family to celebrate your wedding with you and also help create a lasting memory. Why would they not get you something you really need and would treasure? Here’s everything to keep in mind when making your wedding registry.

1. Create Gift Registry Early

What are you waiting for? Registering for wedding gifts should be one of the first tasks you tackle when you get engaged. Our Wedding Catalogue makes it super easy to get started you can select all your favorite items, all while keeping your friends and family in the know. Take the guesswork out of gift buying by create a top notch wedding catalogue that function like your wedding website but as your wedding gift registry in it and sharing the link with your guests. Don’t worry about completing your list at once, but at least have a few items for guests to browse when they visit your wedding catalogue.

2. Do It Together

Adding potential gift items together is essential. After all, the gifts are for both of you. To decide what you need, take inventory of the things you already have and see where the gaps are. Talk about the style of home you’d both like, and split up the final say to make it fair. You could alternate items—maybe one of you gets to make final decisions on electronics, while the other chooses the kitchen stuff.

3. Register for Whatever You Want

Don’t feel like you just can only register for household things. These days it’s not about the stuff you might need but about getting what you really want. We have made it easier for couples to celebrate their new life together in other ways—think: honeymoon adventures, camping equipment and fancy date night dinners. It’s also easier for friends & family to contribute and buy expensive items, be it the flight tickets to your honeymoon or a new appliance for your home. Building your registry through our website add no additional charge to you or your guests on gifts purchase and delivery.

4. Think About How You Live

Try to avoid filling your list with things you’re never going to use. If you two aren’t the formal party types, then you probably won’t need a crystal wine bowl, as compelling as it may seem when you look by with that registry scanner (gift room). Also, be extra sure before you register for anything that’s monogrammed. Once your name is on it, you probably won’t be able to return it.

5. Hit All Price Points

As much as you may be aiming for that gorgeous flat screen TV set that costs N300,000 , be sure to register for items in a wide range of price points under N10,000. That way, all of your guests can choose gifts they can afford. You don’t want your college, friend or family feeling overwhelmed by the fact that he can’t find a single gift in their budget range and you don’t want your parents’ closest friends to have to buy you a multitude of smaller items to make up one generous gift.

6. Be Considerate of Your Guests

The best registry to have is an online registry. Guests should also be able to place their orders in person or over the phone. We live in a hectic world and you want to let guests be able to order you a gift—even if it’s 2 a.m.

7. Update Often

When a guest buys a gift for you, your registry would automatically update, allowing others to see what is left to be purchased. Revisit your registry often (trust us, you’ll be visiting several times a day once the wedding day nears), and update it with additional items as products are purchased, so guests always have a variety of things to choose from. Aim to have at least twice as many items on your list as the guests you are expecting at your wedding.

8. Think Gift Cards and Cash Cards

Nothing will ever replace the traditional registry. There’s just something special about your guests helping you stock up on must-haves for your life together. But a few of your guests might prefer giving cash and that’s okay. Your guests will appreciate a cash gift as an option, and we have an easy tool for requesting just that. You can also incorporate your honeymoon into your gift registry by allowing your guests to contribute to your honeymoon fund.

9. Say Thanks

Most importantly be gracious and let your guests know their gifts have been delivered promptly. Thank-you notes for gifts received after the wedding day should be sent within a month of your return from the honeymoon. In all notes, be sure to mention the gift by name.

I am keenly observing that Yorubas in the persons of FFK and Fayose are carefully and systematically milking on the frail emotions and the gullibility of the Igbos.

How a major tribe like the Igbos allowed themselves to be so relegated in the scheme of Nigerias affairs is a story for another day.

FFK and Fayose's new found solidarity for Igbos (Nnamdi Kanu and now Ifeanyi Ubah) apprehended/investigated by the FG is very suspicious and shows that they consider the Igbos gullible enough.

My two kobos.

Cc. Pazienza. Abagworo. Afam4Eva
It's not an issue of being gullible, it's just aout seizing the moment. To the Biafran proponents, any publicity is good publicity because what IPOB wants is that publicity even if it comes from satan. That's why they would go on a march for a Donald Trump who is loathed in this part of the world. Lie they said, in police there no permanent friends but interests.
