ifechez: I love ebonyi state and it's people. I have alot of them as friends both here in Portharcourt and Onitsha. I may even marry from there. But one thing I love most is the fact that I have not seen an Igbo criminal who is from Ebonyi.

What if the woman broke the law? isn't their a punishment for breaking the law? How many people are against whatever punishment she's given? What we're against is simply the utterance of the Governor. make no mistake about it. And why must a Governor be personally present. Are we in a military dictatorship?

Political Office holders are human beings quite alright but they become somewhat more responsible publicly than other people when they signed up to serve the people. That's the difference. The fact that people are stealing, doesn't mean a political office holder should also steal. A lot of people look up to them as role models and they have the responsibility to live up to the billing.

I have forgiven him and i'm pretty sure the widow has forgiven him too. I have nothing against him but i will continue to cite that assertion of his for future purposes.

I vehemently condemned his choice of words on the woman when the news broke....but now he has done what a real man do: sincere apology...

I make mistakes almost everyday but i don't hold any political office. Political office holders are saddled with the responsibility of being civil with their countenance and choice of words. The onyl reason you're having a soft spot for Osho is because of his party affiliation. Had it been Jonathan that told someone to go and die, we won't hear the last of it. Let's learn to speak the truth irrespective of what political divide we align with.

This is a kind gesture but even if he emptied the yearly budget of Edo state government for the widow, it doesn't change the fact that he told the woman to go and die and that will be on record and will serve as a deterrent to other caustic tongues in government.

On a lighter note, i don't mind a governor telling me to go and die as long as i'll be given a token just as this. There's a saying that goes "If you don't get insulted in life, you won't get blessed". Btw, i formed this saying

Pharoh: Ukwuani and Ika are igboid and there is nothing anybody is going to do about that but the only thing they can tamper with is the ethnic nationality. You really have to understand the joshua project that you always want to refer to, that project is a classification of ethnic groups and taking them up to ethnic nationality. The reason why we are all called igbos is that you normally use the name of the largest ethnic group within the nationality to name the whole group.

Now assuming Ika was the largest in population, we will all be called Ikas today and same thing is applicable for the other ethnic groups within the nationality. They colonialist have already chosen that name but it is not compulsory as we can forge a new ethnic national identity for ourselves, heck we can all be refereed to as aniomas or biafrans if everyone is cool with that. There are ethnic nationalities that spreads across different countries and they go about with their ethnic group identity.

See the truth is that i cannot call an Ika man Ukwuani and it is in that same way that he also cannot call me Ika, this is the logic that is applicable to every ethnic group within the nationality. The name Igbo was chosen as our ethnic nationality because the largest ethnic group within it are the igbo people. In delta state there are three igboid groups and they are IKA, Ukwuani-Aboh and Igbos otherwise known as Enuani. So if the national identity is the problem then the logical thing to do is to fix that instead of imposing the name of one of the groups if the others are not accepting that. We can all be called anioma ethnic nationality made up of Igbos, Ikas, Ukwuani, Ikwerre and the others, so this solves our identity issue and those ikas or abohs who call themselves igbos are not exposed to this fact.

Next time ask them if they are referring to themselves as an ethnic group or ethnic nationality to see what they really mean. Each ethnic group can go their own separate ways if they so wish but it doesn't remove the fact that they belong to the same nationality. The only issue here is the name of the nationality as instead of Igbo it can be anything like anioma, biafra, Nri, Ikenge or whatever. When i tell you that i am not igbo, i am saying igbo is not my ethnic group and people don't even need to yap about the nationality as that can be changed easily to anything as we have switched to Anioma.

Just to correct an impression though. The term "Igbo" is not used to refer to Ika or Ukwuani people because that's the name of the largest ethnic group as the name was an invention and just as you have Ikas and Ukwuanis, you have Ngwas, Nkanus, Abriba etc. I don't think it's fair to compare Ika or Ukwuani to Igbo as Igbo is just an association of Igboid groups. It was when the Europeans arrived that we were centralized with the Igbo term. Compare Ukwuani or Ika to Ngwa et al and not Igbo.

Most of Ebonyi's IGR is gotten from agriculture and Ebonyi is the foodbasket of the SE. The reason why other states in that region seem to be lagging behind is because if they were to increase their IGR, it will be mainly from taxation and the taxation culture in the SE is apalling. Like someone said, Anambra and Abia's IGR alone should ordinariliy be ten times that of Ebonyi but Ebonyi seems to be holding the ace at the moment and they have to be commended for that.

I'm not saying he should resign. I'm just saying what's obtained in an ideal setting. And pls, when we mention that a governor is performing, we shouldn't be myopic to think that being a performing governor involves fixing the roads, hospitals, schools etc. A very important component is the morality and social responsibility of these governors. A governor who goes around sprouting such comments definitely has a minus.

Out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks. There's no gain saying that Oshiomole's utterance was a reflection of a side of him that a lot of people don't know about. When angry, he can go overboard. Even his countenance towards the widow was appalling and distasteful. He has apologized quite alright but his action should not be allowed to fade away. In other climes, people resign for making such unguarded statements.
