Most people who open threads like this are known trouble makers. Only if they'll change their ways, there will be no need fro them to be banned.
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Afam4eva(m): 4:43pm On Oct 22, 2013
Pukkah: The whole essence is to improve the forum and restore confidence.

The idea of not showing the moderator who banned a user is also plausible.

By the way, if paying mods is an issue, new mods could be appointed by having the present mods adopt new/neutral names. With this, they can continue to post with their existing monikers and moderate with the new ones. In life, confidence is more of perception.

Lastly, I don't think paying mods is impractical. Nairaland has its overheads, abi? In any case, the paid mods don't have to be the existing ones.
Only people who are directly affected by the forum should moderate the forum. It's a global practice. I was once a moderator in one of the largest forums in the world and that's how it's done. You don't leave your forum to outsiders. Moderators must come from already existing and active members from a particular section. Even getting moderators from another section to mod a section they're not familiar with is not even recommended even though Nairaland has done that to try to eliminate the perceived bias that you're talking about and it still won't stop people from accusing moderators and saying that they were unjustly banned because they're not from the moderator's tribe. These things will always be there as long as Nairaland remains a general forum.

Imo, paying mods can kill a forum because someone who works for passion is better than one who works for some bucks.

PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Afam4eva(m): 4:24pm On Oct 22, 2013
Pukkah: With the torrents of complaints and tons of allegations of unfair moderation, the Site Administrator needs to commence some far-reaching reforms, especially on the Politics Section. From the look of things, many of the most active posters on the section have lost confidence in the moderators/moderation of the section and have become deeply divided across tribal/sectional lines.

Sometimes even when the moderators are trying their best, the perception by the affected people is that of unfairness and arbitrariness. In order for the Politics section, and Nairaland, to continue growing, something should urgently be done about the loss of confidence.

As a start, I don't think Moderators should have Posting rights. They should not be actors and regulators at the same time. It robs them of the much-needed independence.

Also, I suggest that:

1. All the present Moderators should be relieved of their duties.
2. New Moderators, preferably paid ones, should be recruited for the section. The moderators should know that they cannot use their powers arbitrarily and could also be subjected to sanctions when found wanting. They must only side with truth and fairness; and not try to become tribal champions or unconscious bigots. The Sanction Grid or the basis for decision making as it pertains to erring members should be open and publicized.
3. The tribe or nationality of the new mods should not be known to posters.
Your advice is in good faith but it's not practical. There are very few forums in the world where moderators are paid and it's mostly in newly setup forums. Moderatorship is not supposed to be a paid job, that's why it's volunteers that sacrifice their time and resources to help keep the forum afloat. What you should be clamoring for, is for the moderators to remain but that the bans should not be personalized such that when i ban someone, the person will not see "Banned by Afam4eva". The users shouldn't know who banned them and i think that will go a long way in helping to reduce the bad blood against moderators.

SportsRe: Rabiu Ibrahim May Quit Football by Afam4eva(m): 4:09pm On Oct 22, 2013
Tolexander: Get well bro!

If quitting football is the only guarantee to live, you better quit now.

Remember those that died like marc-vivien foe and samuel okparaji, what has become of them now? what has been used to reward them?

Remember Fabrice Muamba that cheated death, see how he is being rewarded by bolton.

There are more to life than football and there are many more routes to success and prosperity other than football.

I understand you have the talent but have to relent not like being somnolent by an indolent without benevolent during the lent.
The number one motto in Nigeria is "Get Rich or Die Trying". Even if he wants to quit, his family may advise him not to. But for his sake, he should quit and go into coaching or something within the football circle.

CrimeRe: Enugu, Crime Capital Of Nigeria – Survey by Afam4eva(m): 12:36pm On Oct 22, 2013
Orlando Owoh: The IG said Enugu State was the most peaceful yet a colleague of his, the Commissioner of Police of Kwara State, was killed in Enugu. What do you make of this? I dey laugh.
Is there any state where people don't get killed. Are you saying Enugu deserves the spot as the most crime ridden state because of the fact that the commissioner was killed there? Like seriously?
CrimeRe: Enugu, Crime Capital Of Nigeria – Survey by Afam4eva(m): 12:35pm On Oct 22, 2013
This report is preposterous. If people want to lie, they should lie with caution. Enugu state is the wrongest state to call the most unsafe, so i don't know how these people arrived at this conclusion. I've noticed some bad reportage of Enugu since international flights started landing and taking of from Enugu and i'm forced to believe that some people are out to tarnish the image of Enugu whichever way they can. First it was Enugu being dirty despite the fact that Enugu is one of the cleanest states in Nigeria and now this. This is the reason why i keep telling more South-Easterners to open more media houses else Igbos will be annihilated with media propaganda.

speedyboi: Dude....we are not talking Nigeria here. Stop twisting what I said....Last I checked Wizkid was spraying 100,000 to crowd in Lagos.....Who doesn't know Nigerians prefer mediocrity before?

I am talking what I know! And that is: Asa will pull more crowd in Abuja than Flavour. And most probably more than P-Square and 2face! And that's just what it is! Believe it or not....I don't give a rat's a/ss. seeing is believing!
If we're not talking of Nigeria then where's Abuja located? I don't get.
Music/RadioRe: Wizkid Performs For Nearly Empty Seats Last Night In Abuja by Afam4eva(m): 9:07pm On Oct 21, 2013
speedyboi: Asa will pull more crowd in abuja than Flavour! That's sure.

2face is overrated and people like him for whatever reason. So he will pull crowd as well.
People will come and watch P-square for the dance et al.

I shouldn't have included p-square together with dem iyanya sef....na rush typing cause am. P-square make music as well....if not for their latest nonsense like Alingo and Personally. 2face make music too....not noise.
Bros, you know this is not true. Even Timaya would pull more crowd than Asa and Nneka combined. The issue is not whether or not aboutwhether or not what the likes of psquare, 2face and Flavour are singing is crap. The point is that these crap music is what's selling in Nigeria at the moment. How many people even know Asa and Nneka not to talk of going for their shows. I've seen shows organized by Asa and it's just an average show full of just VI and Ikoyi people.

I don dey pity the guy. I think next time, he should make it a little bit cheaper. If you noticed there were more people at the back(regular) sit than the front. So, it's obvious it's because of the exorbitant price.

There are some crazy peeps in this world.

I'm sure after he threw his wife off, he must have also thrown his tv outside too, out of frustration of his team loosing, followed by himself.
I threw his wife off in the spur of the moment. Maybe if he had the time to calm down, he wouldn't but his love for football and the overbearing nature of his wife led him to commit the abominable.

The football one is the most true. I remember a husband who threw his wife off a 4 storey building because his wife stood in front of the TV preventing him to watch his favorite team play. Any man you cannot change before marriage, don't try to change after marriage or else, you'll have yourself to blame.

speedyboi: And just so you know asa, nneka etc are people's favourite over here and they come here often. And the fact is; most of the 'staying low' musicians whose songs make sense are usually richer than these noisemakers. Asa and nneka for instance attend reputable international events...France, Us etc to perform.

Asa's beautiful imperfection album reached number 3 on America's Billboard and topped charts in many countries.

And we are talking Asa, Nneka...you are saying flavour, 2face, psquare. You dey alright so?
Are you implying that Asa and Nneka will pull mre crowd than the likes of Flavour, 2face or Psquare? Are we talking popularity or quality of artiste?

safarigirl: no be 1 million people pay for Koko concert? Those who have 500k to pay for a concert don't want to see Wizkid and a bunch of unknowns. Wizkid isn't enough, if he had the likes of Flavor and Burna to assist, things would've been better. Just those two would've made a world of difference.
Of course people will pay for quality. Wizkid didn't realize that high school kids can't afford that amount. People who have that much money go out to see more mature artiste like Flavour, Psquare, D'Banj etc.

TravelRe: Ask Me Any Questions About America, straight Talk from a Nigerian in America by Afam4eva(m): 9:08am On Oct 21, 2013
nwanjilove: Good Morning folks, hope your weekend was good? I have some questions for babyo and other good guys and girls in the forum who have been doing a good work in answering our questions. I already asked a similar question in one of the pages and no one answered me so I hope that I will be able to get an answer here.

First, I studied Geology and will like to move to USA or Canada for better opportunity, I noticed that you insisted that the medical field is bright for new comers and since I don't mind studying again I will like you to clarify some things for me.
1. Can I enter USA with a visiting Visas and then when am in the country apply to a school and get an F1 visa which I believe is a student Visa.
2. you mentioned something earlier of starting from a college for a nursing cert or degree kindly explain more and please and how much do you think their fees will be in the college (just an estimation)
3. What is the duration of the programme also what is next after its completion and can I work while schooling.
4. This question may be funny but we are all still learning, I keep hearing folks saying that our standard here is very hard as in school wise that all exams written abroad are in objective and not theory, where you have to explain how you were born LOL so I will like to know how true this is.

Finally if I have say 2million Naira now how realistic is this?

I will really appreciate it if my questions are answered and please someone one should not say they have already been answered in the previous post LOL just help me out. God bless you all.
Yes, you can enter the US with any kind of visiting and then while you're there, you apply to a school, get admitted and your visa status can be changed before your visa elapse.

People go to community colleges simply because they're cheaper but their prices vary. But i've seen 2 year colleges with a tuition of N700k.

The duration of a community college is typically 2 years and yes, you can work and school but you need permission to do so. and it's also imperative to note that there's a specific amount of working hours that you're be given as a student and you must not surpass it.

Yes, American exams test your basic IQ. They're not interesting in knowing how many books you have read. They just want to know if you have common sense to do college work.
