I couldn't help but to reply to this post... It is laughable to suggest Tony V is better than Beckham. Beckham was a certified world class winger, you can't say the same about Tony V. I'm not trying to take anything away from Tony V but he is just not just on Beckham 's level, not for now at least.

World Player of the Year

1999

1. RIVALDO Vitor Borba Ferreira (Brazil)
2. David BECKHAM (England)
3. Gabriel BATISTUTA (Argentina)
4. Zinedine ZIDANE (France)
5. Christian VIERI (Italy)
6. Luis FIGO (Portugal)
7. Andrei SHEVCHENKO (Ukraine)

2000

1. Zinedine ZIDANE (France)
2. Luis FIGO (Portugal)
3. RIVALDO Vitor Borba Ferreira (Brazil)
4. Gabriel BATISTUTA (Argentina)
5. Andrei SHEVCHENKO (Ukraine)
6. David BECKHAM (England)

2001

1. Luis FIGO (Portugal)
2. David BECKHAM (England)
3. RAÚL González Blanco (Spain)
4. Zinedine ZIDANE (France)
5. RIVALDO Vitor Borba Ferreira (Brazil)
6. Juan Sebastián VERÓN (Argentina)

Ballon d’Or Winners

1999

1st Rivaldo (Brazilian, Barcelona)
2nd David Beckham (English, Manchester United)
3rd Andriy Shevchenko (Ukrainian, AC Milan)

Beckham wasn't the second best player in the world for nothing.
Bros thank you for that post. Its shocking to see people here compare david beckham who was a fixture on the world footballer of the year list for some years to antonio valencia who has not been near that list any time in his life.
and someone also counted beckham's dependence on his right foot against him when valencia's left foot is even more useless.

beckham had a lot of unwarranted media hype about him but please lets not compare him to a patently mediocre player like antonio valencia.
maybe memories of the post-Aldo Duscher Beckham have played a major factor in how guys view him now

he was in top 10 in the FIFA player of the year lists for about 5 straight years,he must have had some quality

RuuDie: Becks vs. Tony V!?

Tony V. for sure... you'd need to have watched Becks at his worst to appreciate why one would rather pitch tent with Valencia. And to think that at some point in his career some managers thought he could do well in a CM role because of his "passing ability" --- well, what else are we to expect, he is afterall, the "English Golden Boy"!
the original debate and question was Beckham of 1999(not Beckham at his worst) or Antonio Valencia.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 12:32pm On Oct 09, 2013
coogar: 1999 silver ball on the back of 6 league goals in the entire season - many of which were freekicks outside the box? if beckham was from japan, would he have won the silver ball based on that awful statistics?
are free kicks not meant to be from outside the box?
and with those kicks and crosses he contributed immensely to a treble season and as at that time was the highest ever englishman in the FIFA player of the year awards,so he didnt get that award because of his nationality BUT in spite of it.
he was ahead of Shevchenko,Batistuta,Veron,Figo,Zidane,Raul,Marcelo Salas that year.

So i ask again, you would take one leg Valencia ahead of Beckham of 1999?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 11:13pm On Oct 08, 2013
coogar: then you must be a fool.....

rafael is better than rafinha.
rio + vidic + jones + smalling + evans are better than any centre-halves bayern have paraded in the last 10 years. evra is even better than lahm.

kompany & nastasic were not groomed in england. they received their football education elsewhere & clichy is a poor student in the school of defending. not one of the defenders you mentioned above have won the league twice in england so you are either a social reprobate or a rank simpleton!

they would bench beckham & giggs in 1999. they would also bench ronaldo of 2003-2006.

One leg Valencia would bench Beckham 1999 Silver Ball winner of FIFA player of the year? Also 2nd in the European player of the year

elampiro: I don't know. Tell me na.

Had Pogba been so relevant, he's should have sent Scholes and Giggs away since, just as Rafael sent Neville and Brown away since.
Ok thanks for explaining, that is all i needed. I wanted to know how well you understood (or misunderstood) the situation.

elampiro: Was Pogba not part of the reasons Scholes returned?

After Anderson and Cleverly, SAF tried a lot of things and we were sinking until Scholes returned to pair Carrick in January.
Pray tell how was Pogba one of the reasons Scholes came back?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m):
nice post by Purist.

Like i said i would never blame Sir Alex for the Morrison issue.SAF is a manager not a magician and if he along with senior team mates, magistrates and experienced professionals like psychologists, youth counselors etc failed to rid the boy of his demons who are we to castigate them.
The best thing that could have been done to save him as a human being never mind a footballer was to separate him from those local influences that had dominated his decision making since childhood.

Pogba is another issue, i don't think there is any justification for losing the boy.
Elampiro is it the midfield that was so dire that Fergie had to recall Scholes from retirement that you say looked like dominating Europe?
You must have been looking through rose tinted glasses cheesy

Luckily it seems they have learnt their lesson, heard they are offering Januzaj a very good deal now.Hope the boy stays grounded

StarBoard: My point exactly.
There's no excuse in my book for letting the thug go.
I believe what happened was he refused to sign a contract for between 12k and 15k pounds and was demanding 30K for a ROOKIE contract.
adding this to all his on and off field issues fergie decided to cut him loose and now the boy is at west ham getting paid about 12k.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 1:47pm On Oct 07, 2013
A-40:
Fergie was awfully wrong about Pogba maybe if he was kept yall would not have needed to throw 27milla into the konga for Fellaini

Same law does not apply to Morrison cause here's the thing Man U is a sporting club not a youth outreach program. There are a lot of other young players out there that could have also used some mentorship and I'm pretty sure at some point a hand was extended to Morrison to clean up his act. Everyone deserves a second chance but with Morrison probably used up his quota

The Patriots would never have signed a felon BTW hence the reason they cut him immediately he got indicted but Hernandez also started from somewhere who is to guarantee Morrison could not end up with jailtime with the way he was going
on point.
morrison had used up his 1st,2nd and 3rd chances.
i am a real ravel morrison fan but one cant blame fergie for what he did
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 1:45pm On Oct 07, 2013
Morrison was training with the first team
Also he did not single handedly win anything. That same team had a certain PAUL POGBA and Tunnicliffe,Larnel Cole and Will Keane were really good too.

Pogba we can blame Sir Alex for but Morrison was so bad even when he went on loan to Birmingam from West Ham the Birmingham coach almost terminated his loan deal because of his behavioural issues.Like Montelik said SAF is no magician the players, back room staff, the courts and psychologists all tried to help him but he only got worse AND the boy then was said to be demanding 30 thousand pounds per week for his rookie contract.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 3:53am On Oct 07, 2013
Morrison was Manchester born and obviously integrated into the local gangs.
The best thing that was done for him was sending him to London, the distance from all the bad influences helps.not saying it stops all bad behaviour but when those criminal elements in your network are bit more remote you stand a better chance to make the right decisions.

Aaron Hernandez situation should be a cautionary tale, the prospects of making millions of dollars does not stop these sportsmen from stupid criminal acts if their upbringing has scarred their personality and character.

P.S the pogba case was just an absolute cockup by fergie. the only reason pogba was not dominating the youth players in england even more than he did was that he was BORED.

StarBoard: Dude is a natural born thug.
No further comments.
That midfield won the youth FA Cup a while back, didn't they?
yes they destroyed a good chelsea team en route to the final and i believe also beat a very good liverpool side with sterling, suso, connor coady etc in the league.
larnell cole and lingard on the flanks.really had hopes for them

SailorXY: I hope we have some buy-back clause inserted in the contract somewhere. Who knows, he may still fancy Old Trafford in future should we require his services again
i hope so.heard rumors we had a buy-back clause in mats daehli's sale to Molde. we should be doing it for some of these boys like madrid and barca do JUST IN CASE.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 6:56pm On Oct 06, 2013
It took the real threat of his football life wasting away and stepping away from the limelight of Old Trafford for him to improve his ways.
He is not there yet however i am happy he seems to be on the right path, really good talent.
the midfield of tunnicliffe, morrison nd pogba was devastating in the youth team
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 6:53pm On Oct 06, 2013
StarBoard: I think Fergie decided not to give Morrison a chance based on his life outside the pitch.
For some reason Feegie was biased towards sending this youngster out. A little bit of mentoring and he woulda been ours, but Ferhie already had his mind made up.
Unfortunate that a raw talent like that was let go. The boy is a baller, and his goal and overall performance today just confirms that.
michael owen was just talking about the problems morrison presented for fergie.
morrison is english and is from the manchester area to boot and has loads of talent,he was always going to be given opportunity like wes brown, welbeck, scholes d nevilles and other local boys with moderate to great talent.

morrison was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend twice, assaulting his own mother. he was arrested for intimidating a robbery victim to try and stop the guy from testifying in court against the robbers (who apparently were friends of morrison). morrison went to the victim's house with a mob to threaten the guy and his family
he had several court ordered counseling programs and fergie tried to integrate him into the senior team, the senior players tried to talk to him but no matter what was tried he just rebelled more and more
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 6:12pm On Oct 06, 2013
coogar: ravel morrison - the best young english player by a country mile. maybe SAF was right he needed to get out of manchester to realise his potential but what a sublime goal he copped tonight against spurs....

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3777/10120481755_6d36775be0_o.gif

he ran half the length of the pitch & that finish was just world class....villas-boas must be wondering what hit him. imagine what morrison, cleverley, pogba & janujaz would have been like in our midfield now had SAF not brought back scholes in 11/12 season....
very good player,always was.
scholes and cleverley blocked pogba however MORRISON BLOCKED MORRISON.
we all know his myriad of problems with authority, from insubordination to bullying to gang affiliation to witness intimidation to assaulting his girlfriend, assaulting his own mother to alleged theft e.t.c

montelik: I still hold that sentiment. macheda had an even bigger impact when he came on and saved us during the 08 title run in. where is he now?

we need to not kill him with expectations.
very correct!
i was always of the opinion that the boy was ready to contribute to the 1st team this season HOWEVER he should not be placed under the pressure of the British hype machine.
the boy has great technique but he can still improve in his touch, dribbling and passing to exploit his God given ability to the max.
Also needs to bulk up and improve his decision making.Talent wise he has the POTENTIAL to be the best player we have had since Ronaldo

Rio is finished and Vidic's last days are not far away either. He has always had difficulty against pacy players especially when isolated in wide areas AND these days he appears less resolute in his defending.Having said that he is still our best CB at the moment.
What is required now is for Evans,Smalling and Jones to make good progress in their development.

chamotex: Januzaj's contract ends at the end of the season and they are yet to tie him up.
This boy can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January o.
If they let this one slip too...
they should better call Fergie back from America to come help seal the deal. Januzaj's agent is attributing the slow pace of negotiations to Moyes replacing Fergie, another bloodsucking agent set on hawking his client to d highest bidder

elampiro: Thank God for three points.

Thanks to De Gea and Janujaz for the victory.

Agreed Rooney was unimpressive today. I would have loved Kagawa to come in at half time.

No one has mentioned RVP miss on face me I face you with the goalkeeper (if na Rooney this thread for don close). RVP also played behind Rooney in most part of first half, what did he do from the hole?

Rooney helped us kept the ball (possession)at the tail end while saving an obvious direct shot from the box straight at the goal. Who knows what should have happened had Rooney not block it.

I can have a sweet two weeks now before next fixtures.
you are right RVP was poor today too.
that miss was poor especially the lackadaisical way he took the shot, thank God it didn't prove to b a costly one.

GustavoFring: With the likes of Hazard, De Bruyne, Chadli, Mirallas, and Mertens in the squad, I sincerely doubt that they will be found wanting for creativity... undecided
Against the big boys they might.what they play with now is practically 7 defensive players and 3 attacking players AND they use central defenders as their full backs(cos thats d one position they are lacking).
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc(m): 8:01pm On Oct 05, 2013
Both Rooney and RVP were very poor but while RVP was quietly stinking up the place Rooney was loudly and energetically crapping all over the pitch like a dysenteric dog cheesy

Vidic had a struggle combating Altidore's pace and power all day long Phil Jones had a better game.

Evra and Vidic had decent games........Carrick and Cleverley were really good with their touch, passing and movement.

Nani tried but Januzaj was the YBNL wink

Belgium will be the side to watch at the Worldcup
they stand a better chance if they push dembele back to central midfield to partner witsel permanently, drop fellaini to the bench and use a real no 10 on a regular basis. the witsel, dembele, fellaini axis is not creative enough and too defensive especially for a team that plays 4 CBs in defense.
