tonywonder: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has picked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as the president’s Chief Of Staff, after several hours of meetings and consultations.
THE Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has adjourned hearing of the petition against President Bola Tinubu’s election, following a request by Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi’s legal team.
The five-man panel, led by Haruna Simon Tsammani, granted the adjournment during the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, May 31.
During the hearing, Awa Kalu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the counsel for the petitioner, informed the court that the original plan of Obi’s legal team was to present documents to the tribunal today.
However, according to him, the legal team experienced an unexpected setback due to the sudden illness of two key staff members at their secretariat.
As a result, Kalu stated, “We are constrained to pray for an adjournment till tomorrow (Thursday, June 1).
The legal representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, and the All Progressive Congress (APC), namely Abubakar Mahmoud, Wole Olanikpekun, and Lateef Fagbemi, who are all SANs, did not contest the request for a postponement.
They acknowledged that the time wasted would be added to the petitioner’s allotted time since the request originated from the petitioner’s side.
Tsammani, in response to the plea, granted the prayer for an adjournment and scheduled the continuation of the hearing for Thursday, June 1.
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday pledged to challenge a long-standing interpretation of the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to end birthright citizenship for children of unauthorized immigrants if he defeats President Biden in the 2024 election.
If he secures a second presidential term, Trump said he would issue an executive order during his first day back at the White House in January 2025 instructing the federal government to deny citizenship to children with parents who are not American citizens or legal permanent residents.
Under a decades-long interpretation of the Constitution, children born on U.S. soil are automatically bestowed American citizenship, even if their parents are not themselves citizens or legally present in the country. Some immigration hardliners have long criticized the policy, saying it encourages parents to come to the U.S. illegally. While he was in the White House, Trump repeatedly floated the idea of challenging the interpretation, but never took action.

franchasofficia: Meanwhile, Nigerian politicians and leaders should understand that European, US, Canadian, Asian, etc countries do subsidize some things for their citizens.
PMS subsidy is consumption based and offers no real value to the Nigerian economy. The spotlight will now shift to "subsidised" production in the way of tax waivers to potential investors in the downstream sector.
By the way, the Federal Government of Nigeria DOES provide subsidies for its citizens.
Gppgn: No1..Remi tinubu is not a pastor in rccg.. she's just a deconess...

I’m currently hunting for a Nigerian used Peugeot 406 to replace my ‘01 C180. I want the 406 with the EW10 engine paired to an automatic transmission. I want something in a good condition that the electrical system hasn’t been tampered with and was well maintained.
My budget is 1M. I know it’s not the most generous, but it shouldn’t be impossible. I’ll prefer if the vehicle is in Abuja as I’m in Abuja, but if I find one in Lagos, I don’t mind as I have someone over there that could help me inspect and strike the deal.
PS: Please I really need this ASAP.
Thank you honorable people. I’ll be waiting.
I suggest you knock off Lagos and consider Kaduna. However, you are likely to get the manual transmission which is far better.
You can type "406" into the Nairaland search bar and filter Auto section results only or visit Jiji.
sonature1: Peter Obi promised to slash PMS subsidy by 50%. No serious leader should automatically remove petrol subsidy the day he was sworn in.
Hmm
The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to phasing out fuel subsidy completely if elected during next month’s election.
He said removing fuel subsidy had been on his priority list, and he would end the menace, which he described as “organised crime”, immediately after he assumes office.
The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning declared yesterday that there has been “no change in the overall policy direction regarding the petrol subsidy envisaged by June 2023.”
What happened, according to the Special Adviser Media and Communications to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, was that the subsidy removal committee needed to be expanded to include teams from the incoming administration and the state governors.
“By the principles and letters of the 2023 Appropriation Act and the PIA laws, there is no provision for subsidy after June 2023,” Abdullahi said.
