PoliticsRe: Presidential Election: South-West At Crossroads Over Tinubu, Obi by AlphaTaikun: 9:18pm On Oct 05, 2022
Faiththatworks:
always start by making my bias very clear,I will vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in February 2023 and yes I have my Voters card ready.
Back to the matter,I hope Asiwaju's aides come to Nairaland to read comments,I think it's time for Us Asiwaju Die hard supporters to be realistic with what will happen Next year.
It's time to start making projections for Next year Elections.
The Task to elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be a battle, and it's time to start fighting Dirty.
The projections are very simple, whoever will become president of Nigeria needs to win only 17 states,I repeat only 17 states.
Asiwaju must be realistic about his projections, the North will betray him so he should stop the very crazy and futile effort of trying to please them.
My own Suggestions is for Asiwaju to concentrate on the 6 South-west states, and humble himself to make a deal with Gov Obaseki,Edo state is the only state that looks winnable outside the areas where ApC has Governors.
He should throw his resources into Cross Rivers and Ebonyi state.
Asiwaju will only be president if he can win at least 9 states in the South.
He should focus on these 4 States in the North Central, kogi,Kwara, Nassarawa and Niger.
For the North West and North East, only a Zombie will think H.E Atiku and Sen Kwankwanso will lose their states to Asiwaju.
He should only focus on winning four states in the North West and East.
Borno,Yobe,Kebbi and Gombe.
Only those 4 States look winnable.
I think Asiwaju supporters should start helping H.E Obi campaign, Peter Obi must scatter Atiku Vote in all the Eastern States and some South-south States.
Obi must win at least 3 states while Kwankwanso must win at least Kano and Jigawa.
This is the only route I see through which Asiwaju can ever become the President of Nigeria.
God bless Nigeria.

HealthRe: 15 Easy Ways To Lower Blood Sugar Levels Naturally by AlphaTaikun: 5:21pm On Oct 05, 2022
kolafolabi:
High blood sugar occurs when your body can't effectively transport sugar from blood into cells.

When left unchecked, this can lead to diabetes.

One study from 2012 reported that 12–14% of US adults had type 2 diabetes, while 37–38% were classified as pre-diabetic (1).

This means that 50% of all US adults have diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Here are 15 easy ways to lower blood sugar levels naturally:

1. Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise can help you lose weight and increase insulin sensitivity.

Increased insulin sensitivity means your cells are better able to use the available sugar in your bloodstream.

Exercise also helps your muscles use blood sugar for energy and muscle contraction.

If you have problems with blood sugar control, you should routinely check your levels. This will help you learn how you respond to different activities and keep your blood sugar levels from getting either too high or too low.

Good forms of exercise include weight lifting, brisk walking, running, biking, dancing, hiking, swimming and more.

2. Control Your Carb Intake

Your body breaks carbs down into sugars (mostly glucose), and then insulin moves the sugars into cells.

When you eat too many carbs or have problems with insulin function, this process fails and blood glucose levels rise.

However, there are several things you can do about this.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends controlling carb intake by counting carbs or using a food exchange system.

Some studies find that these methods can also help you plan your meals appropriately, which may further improve blood sugar control.

Many studies also show that a low-carb diet helps reduce blood sugar levels and prevent blood sugar spikes

What's more, a low-carb diet can help control blood sugar levels in the long run

3. Increase Your Fiber Intake

Fiber slows carb digestion and sugar absorption. For these reasons, it promotes a more gradual rise in blood sugar levels.

Furthermore, the type of fiber you eat may play a role.

There are two kinds of fiber: insoluble and soluble. While both are important, soluble fiber specifically has been shown to lower blood sugar levels.

Additionally, a high-fiber diet can help manage type 1 diabetes by improving blood sugar control and reducing blood sugar lows.

Foods that are high in fiber include vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains.

The recommended daily intake of fiber is about 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men. That's about 14 grams for every 1,000 calories.

4. Drink Water and Stay Hydrated

Drinking enough water may help you keep your blood sugar levels within healthy limits.

In addition to preventing dehydration, it helps your kidneys flush out the excess blood sugar through urine.

One observational study showed that those who drank more water had a lower risk of developing high blood sugar levels.

Drinking water regularly re-hydrates the blood, lowers blood sugar levels and reduces diabetes risk.

Keep in mind that water and other non-caloric beverages are best. Sugar-sweetened drinks raise blood glucose, drive weight gain and increase diabetes risk.

5. Implement Portion Control

Portion control helps regulate calorie intake and can lead to weight loss.

Consequently, controlling your weight promotes healthy blood sugar levels and has been shown to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Monitoring your serving sizes also helps reduce calorie intake and subsequent blood sugar spikes.

Here are some helpful tips for controlling portions:

Measure and weigh portions.
Use smaller plates.
Avoid all-you-can-eat restaurants.
Read food labels and check the serving sizes.
Keep a food journal.
Eat slowly.

6. Choose Foods With a Low Glycemic Index

The glycemic index was developed to assess the body's blood sugar response to foods that contain carbs.

Both the amount and type of carbs determine how a food affects blood sugar levels.

Eating low-glycemic-index foods has been shown to reduce long-term blood sugar levels in type 1 and type 2 diabetics.

Although the glycemic index of foods is important, the amount of carbs consumed also matters.

Foods with a low glycemic index include seafood, meat, eggs, oats, barley, beans, lentils, legumes, sweet potatoes, corn, yams, most fruits and non-starchy vegetables.

7. Control Stress Levels

Stress can affect your blood sugar levels.

Hormones such as glucagon and cortisol are secreted during stress. These hormones cause blood sugar levels to go up.

One study showed that exercise, relaxation and meditation significantly reduced stress and lowered blood sugar levels for students.

Exercises and relaxation methods like yoga and mindfulness-based stress reduction can also correct insulin secretion problems in chronic diabetes.

8. Monitor Your Blood Sugar Levels

"What gets measured gets managed."

Measuring and monitoring blood glucose levels can also help you control them.

For example, keeping track helps you determine whether you need to make adjustments in meals or medications.

It will also help you find out how your body reacts to certain foods.

Try measuring your levels every day, and keeping track of the numbers in a log.

9. Get Enough Quality Sleep

Getting enough sleep feels great and is necessary for good health (47).

Poor sleeping habits and a lack of rest also affect blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity. They can increase appetite and promote weight gain.

Sleep deprivation decreases the release of growth hormones and increases cortisol levels. Both of these play an important role in blood sugar control.

Furthermore, good sleep is about both quantity and quality. It is best to get a sufficient amount of high-quality sleep every night.

10. Eat Foods Rich in Chromium and Magnesium

High blood sugar levels and diabetes have also been linked to micronutrient deficiencies.

Examples include deficiencies in the minerals chromium and magnesium.

Chromium is involved in carb and fat metabolism. It also helps control blood sugar levels, and a lack of chromium may predispose you to carb intolerance.

However, the mechanisms behind this are not completely known. Studies also report mixed findings.

Two studies of diabetes patients showed that chromium had benefits for long-term blood sugar control. However, another study showed no benefits.

Chromium-rich foods include egg yolks, whole-grain products, high-bran cereals, coffee, nuts, green beans, broccoli and meat.

Magnesium has also been shown to benefit blood sugar levels, and magnesium deficiency has been linked to a higher risk of developing diabetes.

In one study, people with the highest magnesium intake had a 47% lower risk of becoming diabetic.

However, if you already eat plenty of magnesium-rich foods, then you probably will not benefit from supplements.

Magnesium-rich foods include dark leafy greens, whole grains, fish, dark chocolate, bananas, avocados and beans.

11. Try Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has many benefits for your health.

It promotes lower fasting blood sugar levels, possibly by decreasing its production by the liver or increasing its use by cells.

What's more, studies show that vinegar significantly influences your body's response to sugars and improves insulin sensitivity.

To incorporate apple cider vinegar into your diet, you can add it to salad dressings or mix 2 teaspoons in 8 ounces of water.

However, it's important to check with your doctor before taking apple cider vinegar if you are already taking medications that lower blood sugar.

12. Experiment With Cinnamon Extract

Cinnamon is known to have many health benefits.

For one, it has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity by decreasing insulin resistance at the cellular level.

Studies show cinnamon can also lower blood sugar levels by up to 29%.

It slows the breakdown of carbs in the digestive tract, which moderates the rise in blood sugar after a meal.

Cinnamon also acts in a similar way as insulin, although at a much slower rate.

An effective dose is 1–6 grams of cinnamon per day, or about 0.5–2 teaspoons.

However, definitely don't take more than that since too much cinnamon can be harmful.

13. Try Berberine

Berberine is the active component of a Chinese herb that's been used to treat diabetes for thousands of years.

Berberine has been shown to help lower blood sugar and enhance the breakdown of carbs for energy.

What's more, berberine may be as effective as some blood sugar lowering drugs. This makes it one of the most effective supplements for those with diabetes or pre-diabetes.

However, many of the mechanisms behind its effects are still unknown.

Additionally, it may have some side effects. Diarrhea, constipation, flatulence and abdominal pain have been reported.

A common dosage protocol is 1,500 mg per day, taken before meals as 3 doses of 500 mg.

14. Eat Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are a great source of soluble fiber, which can help control blood sugar levels.

Many studies have shown that fenugreek can effectively lower blood sugar in diabetics. It also helps reduce fasting glucose and improve glucose tolerance.

Although not that popular, fenugreek can easily be added to baked goods to help treat diabetes. You can also make fenugreek flour or brew it into tea.

Fenugreek seeds are also considered one of the safest herbs for diabetes.

The recommended dose of fenugreek seeds is 2–5 grams per day.

15. Lose Some Weight

It's a no-brainer that maintaining a healthy weight will improve your health and prevent future health problems.

Weight control also promotes healthy blood sugar levels and has been shown to reduce your risk of developing diabetes.

Even a 7% reduction in body weight can decrease your risk of developing diabetes by up to 58%, and it seems to work even better than medication.

What's more, these decreased risks can be sustained over the years.

You should also be conscious of your waistline, as it is perhaps the most important weight-related factor for estimating your diabetes risk.

A measurement of 35 inches (88.9 cm) or more for women and 40 inches (101.6 cm) or more for men is associated with an increased risk of developing insulin resistance, high blood sugar levels and type 2 diabetes.

Having a healthy waist measurement may be even more important than your overall weight.

THE WAMBUGU APPLE

For weather related reasons, Nigeria does not produce apples even though there has been a steady increase in its demand by middle class and large retail outlets.
Many still believe that apple cannot grow in Nigerian. But every year, Nigerians spend millions of dollars importing the fruit from South Africa and other European countries. The reason Nigeria spends so much to import apple is not far fetched. People often eat apple raw but it can also be found in many prepared foods and drinks. And there are many health benefits thought to result from eating apples.
Statistics indicate that Nigeria imported 1,882 tonnes, 7,857 tonnes and 32,317 tonnes of apples between 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively from South Africa. Industry watchers said these figures have increased tremendously in the last four years as millions of dollars is expended on importation of apples.
However, apart from statistics available in 2011, 2012, 2013, there is no recent data to indicate amount of apples imported and consumed in Nigeria, but large numbers of apples are imported and brought in through the nation’s borders. But the demand for the product continues to increase indicating that there is a sustainable market for apples in Nigeria, which is largely being driven by the increasing preference for fresh fruit over processed fruit.
It is clearly stated that apples that are sold at shops, in hotels and Nigerian markets have been harvested before they get ripe and they take weeks and months before getting here. Even the apples are injected somehow to preserve them.
*There is good news* for farmers who want to venture into this money spinning fruit. Today, there is a specie of apple called semi-arid apple, also known as ‘wambugu’ apple, which matches Nigeria’s weather conditions. This basically means that the apple can grow and do well in Nigeria, as government is looking for a way of reducing import bills.
*The semi-arid apple* was developed by Peter Wambugu, a man who used to work as a mechanic in the streets of Nyeri, central Kenya, now a trained agriculture expert.
The semi-arid apple can grow to climate of up to 36°, which is within Nigeria’s weather conditions because the apple specifically is for hot and warm areas and it has a lifespan of 50 years. The apple can grow in any West African country and anywhere in the world. The semi-arid apple bears up 500 to 2000 fruits on each tree every season and it has two seasons in a year, starting between July, August, December and January.
As Nigerians look for fresh fruits and food everyday, it would be advisable for farmers to invest as early as possible and take advantage of the prevailing opportunities to make some good returns.
Presently, in Nigerian markets, a piece of apple goes for N50, N100 and above depending on its size. Some hotels buy apple in cartons week in, week out, which shows the huge prospects for the fruits. If a tree produces at least 500 fruits per harvest and multiply the 500 by N50 and also with 250 to 300 trees, you know how much that will fetch you in two seasons.
Speaking with Daily Sun, on the potential of the fruit, the Chief Executive Officer, Wambugu Apple Farm, *Peter Wambugu,* said the semi-arid apple variety is a kind of apple that does best in hot and warm areas, which makes it different from any other imported apple, saying it requires only manure and water for it to grow well.
According to him, the semi-arid apple variety has a very good income as the harvest season comes every nine to 13 months.

It is Lagos Island that was the administrative capital of Nigeria under the British from 1914 to 1960 when they left)... NOT Lagos State.

Lagos State was only created on May 27, 1967 for the indigenes by
Gen. Yakubu Gowon along with 11 other new States after due consultations with the traditional rulers and indigenes.

Second, all lands in Lagos
State are got on lease or rent and were NOT sold! The lands will be retrieved at the end of the rent period by the original land owners or indigenes who will then proceed to demolish any mansion, club, factory, or events centre on the land, if the landowners refuse to extend the land lease. Period.

A couple of African-Americans and Caribbean folks have even used the DNA testing services of Dr. Rick Kittles' AfricanAncestry(.com) to trace their direct paternal and maternal lineages to Yorubaland.

1. Mr. Sam Ford, a top U.S. TV news personality who first visited Nigeria in the 2000s to do a series of documentaries on his Yoruba lineage (done via DNA testing) based on a genetic marker that is
found in Yoruba men. He visited
Lagos, Badagry, Ibadan, and Ile-Ife. The visit was shown on the U.S. TV
station where he worked.

2. The well-known Judge Glenda Hatchett also had her maternal line traced to Yorubaland.

3. Quad Webb of the TV talk show "Sister Circle Live" also had her maternal lineage revealed live on the talk show to Yorubaland.

Yeah, DAKOVA was in the Yaba area from back in the 1980s (when the now dollar Billionaire oil magnate, Mrs. Folorunso Alakija also established her hugely popular "Supreme Stitches in Ikeja) to the 2000s.

All the Vaughans in Yorubaland are connected originally to Egbaland.

Burrel Vaughan who came from the
U.S. to Nigeria in 1854 with his older brother, had to leave
Abeokuta for Ebute-Meta in Lagos because of the expulsion of all
Abeokuta Christians by the Egba chiefs who were angry and felt the British (who had not yet colonised the rest of Yorubaland), were undermining their military attempts to gain access to lucrative trade routes to the sea via Ijebu territory.

Ebute-Meta was settled in very large numbers by the Egba-Yoruba Christians so it became an Egba enclave in the 1800s till now.
Burrell Vaughan and his older brother who came from the U.S. (at the prompting of their dying Egba father) were successfully integrated into the Lagos elite life and became wealthy folks in the 1800s while still maintaining contact with the rest of the family consisting of their 7 biological sisters, and mother in South Carolina.

Cheers.

world.

The history and heroic exploits of many Yoruba Diasporans in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Sierra Leone, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica, USA, etc, have to be told to the world. "From slave ships to victory."

Yorubas in the Diaspora who lived in the 1800s such as the enslaved Egba prince, Scipio Vaughan of South Carolina and the very moving story and inspiring successes of his direct descendants in the American
and Nigerian family branches who still meet till today since 1805 when their Yoruba patriach (Scipio Vaughan) was first brought to the Southern Carolina area on a slave ship via Badagry, Nigeria. He passed on
in 1840.

Two of his only sons later migrated from South Carolina, U.S.A in 1852 to Liberia, and finally arrived in Yorubaland, Nigeria in 1854. The Vaughan family of Abeokuta and Lagos evolved from these 2 men born to
a freed Yoruba father and a mother of Native-American descent.

2. Orishatukeh Faduma, a reknowned educator born in British Guyana in 1857 to Egba-Yoruba parents from Nigeria (who were freed from a slave ship by the British Navy Squadron), was an 1895 Yale Divinity School Uni graduate who had earlier earned a University degree in England before migrating to the U.S. in 1890 from Sierra Leone for further studies.

Professor Orishatukeh became an American citizen (Nigerian-American of Yoruba ancestry) in the late 1890s and died in 1946 at North Point in North Carolina, USA, where he lived with Henrietta his African-American wife who he was married to for nearly 50 years.

Many of America's top black military and Civil Rights Movement advocates were taught by him!

3. Pa. Orlando Martins was a Yoruba movie actor who starred alongside the former U.S. President Ronald Reagan in the 1950s. He was the first Nigerian to ever act in a Hollywood film and he passed on in 1985
and was buried on Lagos Island. I remember that President Reagan sent his condolences.

I'll be willing to share more rare historic pictures from the 1800s and deep insights gathered by me over many years of personal studies and genealogy or ancestry DNA research with the J. Randle Centre in
Lagos to make it a great international hub of Yoruba and African history.

These folks must never be forgotten in history!

I have noticed over the years when i used to stay over with couples abroad, you find the husband seeing nothing wrong in cooking, cleaning doing the laundry and even bathing for and feeding the kids. But those ones at home just carry on as if the woman is superwoman(my father and most of the males in my family are guilty of this).

I guess it's the enviroment and  maybe the fact that domestic helps cost an arm and a leg. wink wink
I have decided that if my hubby refuses to help me with the kids,we will get an aupair

FamilyRe: Marriage:really Just A Certificate Or More? by AlphaTaikun: 9:11am On Oct 04, 2022
damiso:
Hi peeps.I was watching this programme on TV where they were debating a research that concluded that kids from Homes where the parents are married tend to do better in Life than those whose parents were not.Note it was not the normal single vs two parent debate but rather those co-habiting and those who were officially married. As normal for such programmes, you had the expert and people from both sides of the debate i.e. married folks and co-habiting partners. The married folks were married for 10 years and the co-habiting folks had been together for 16 yrs and had teenage kids. The arguments on both sides prompted me to open up this topic.

I am quite a traditionalist when it comes to marriage and could not see myslef living with a man am not married to. I often joke with my husband that it would be difficult for him to get rid of me cos we got married in all the ways
possible (nikkah,registry,traditional and church).
I was raised that way and i know my mum used to fight her female relatives who moved in with men that had not done the proper thing.I had this colleague at work(white lady) who has been living with her partner for years, like 10 i think. They have kids,a mortage and generally seem to be quite happy.I asked her if she never felt they should marry and she was like they are happy as they are and marriage is just a piece of paper.I always felt it odd and maybe cos we africans are quite legalistic i just thought this oyinbo peeps sef.

But that programme though not changing my views has made me question that maybe am just being rigid about the whole thing.Or just being Nigerian. The couple on the programme argument(not too sure about that sha)kept emphasising that a certificate does not define their relationship and countered the married couple(christian) to show where adam and eve got married and got a piece of paper.I know people who married and divorced in less than a yr so that definitely proves that marrying someone does not automatically equate happy relationship. The ummarried couple kept insisting that they are as committed as married folks to making their relationship work but the typical nigerian in me kept asking then why not just make it legal then?Or maybe cos i have been trained to believe if a man has not paid your bride price and married you properly(to my mum sef registry is not proper, she hounded my aunty to do engagement last yr after 11 yrs and 2 kids) he cant respect you.So many questions that debate threw up for me.

So guys, whats your take?Is Marriage ie getting married really just the certificate or making it legal.Though i am christian and i still beleive that you should marry as its a convenant in the eyes of God, i would also like to hear views not wholly coloured by religion.
Bump.

Insightful.

Marriage is a social construct that sharply varies from one culture to another. Happiness and family
cohesion should be the keywords in co-habitation or marriage.

These ones and their criminal ilk don't even see themselves as Nigerians based on the relentless online and offline secessionist propaganda exposures, so they do whatever they like and demarket that country [Nigeria] in foreign countries and even crime data shows that they engage relentlessly in criminal acts in other states outside the SE to the detriment of the image of their other law-abiding SE kinsmen.

The first ever highway luxury bus robbery in Ghana in the 2000s was done by criminals from the same Ibo South- East of Nigeria, so these boys don't
care about country but the excessive love for money and the quest to show off during annual village gatherings in the South-East, and to get crappy chieftaincy titles from an autonomous community chief.

The solution lies within the problem... Call out the full names and family compounds, towns, and villages of all criminals online and offline regardless
of ethnicity and you will begin to see a change or reduction in crime.

Nobody wants to be openly disgraced in the midst of family members, town unions, friends and girlfriends, etc.

Your wife must be a full house wife for her to have much time for Nigeria movie, my babe prefer to watch France 24 or DW she likes to watch current news or any health station. She watched live broadcast of queen's burial and she listens to comments from various parts of world about the queen. We normally debate about various educational issues and topics from science to world politics and world geographical locations. We really don't have time for Nigeria movies.
That's awesome. I like intellectual and historical stuff like what you just described, but it's good to balance these out with movies and some comedy stuff, so dopamine is released in your body to make you feel good. grin

There are many creme-of-the-crop
Nigerian movies from the stables of
the delectable Modupe "Mo" Abudu, 'Kunle Afolayan, 'Bolanle Austen-Peters, etc, that have been screened at several multi-plex cinemas and not those crappy ones with bad story lines and wack movie titles.

As far back as the late 1980s, who could ever forget Nigeria's first female movie and TV series producer, Lola Fani-Kayode's internationally-acclaimed, crisp
"Mind Bending" featuring the iconic
Mr. Olu Jacobs and his wife Joke Silva-Jacobs.

Good evening everyone.

Most nigerian movies can be so meaningless. You can even fathom the message they are trying to pass. Always acting meaningless scripts with funny titles.

We also have a TV in our bedroom, so my wife was watching a Nigerian movie while I was working on my office files.

I can't even puzzle out the excitement in that movie. All I was hearing is some lousy actors making noise and the poor suspense sound track. You need to see my wife looking so tensed & serious, flapping her both hands like a bird that is about to fly while screaming “enter the car drive! drive! drive!

I said Aunty easy o, Then I asked her the title of the movie, she said "The pregnant ghost". I said pls came again, you say? She didn't answer then I picked up the remote to check the title then booom!! The pregnant ghost

I was just laughing seriously, I've to capture it. then I asked her whether she have seen a ghost before not to talk of a pregnant one? And she said what! If I want to know if ghost dey carry belle that I should join her and watch the movie too.

I jejely carried my office files and my laptop, walk straight to the sitting and continue my job. Because if I talk otherwise about that movie na problem for me and I don't want her wahala this night.

Then she asked where am I going? I said this movie is so interesting and it's making me loose focus on the work I'm doing, so I'm going to the sitting room were I can concentrate.

Abeg, those of you that watch this kind of movie, please what are the moral lessons?
You need to get yourself a proper home office in this life time... Then in your next life, you need to raise the bar and get yourself a better upgrade for a wife.

Period.
Foreign AffairsRe: Convoy Transporting Equipment For Russia's Nuclear Forces On The Move (pictures) by AlphaTaikun: 7:24pm On Oct 03, 2022
Reference:
Good attempt but not entirely true.
The truth about the nuclear strike on Japan was two fold.

One. As you said the fear of casualties, but not civilian casualties as in Dresden where German citizens died in mass (the US didn't care about Japanese civilians by then). But the fear of combat casualties in the event of a ground invasion estimated by General George Marshal to be a million including 250,000 soldiers killed based on projections from the bloody campaigns on the nearby islands of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, casualty figures which the American public could not accept.

So they needed a surgical strike with such great shock and awe that the Japanese will loose every will to continue fighting. So they targeted two things. The largest industrial port city complex and army headquarters within B52 range to decimate the Japanese war production and command and control, and then the largest populated city, Kokura (largest outside Tokyo, for they also wanted to avoid the imperial palace, harming the emperor and other cultural sites and sensibilities that will have galvanised the people to continue fighting) to break the will of the government.

Secondly, they also wanted to show the Soviet Union that they had the means to take on any adversary should the war have continued beyond 1945. For Stalin had cut short the neutrality pact he signed with the Japanese in 1941 (to have expired in 1946) and seeing how Japan and the US were bogged down in horrendous attrition attacked the northern flanks of the Japanese empire.

The US did not want what had happened in Europe where the Soviets beat the allies to Berlin to happen again in the East and pushed for a quick surrender of the Japanese to its forces rather than have the Soviets invade and seize imperial Japan.

So the first (and only use so far) of nuclear power in war had more to do with geo-politics as with military strategy as is playing out in Eastern Ukraine today.
Very well said!

I've used NL since 2005 with my older moniker and it gladdens me that we still have folks like you on here who stick to geo-political and international history facts.

In addition, the second atomic
bomb was originally meant for the city of Kokura, Japan, but because of very cloudy weather, the USAF air bombers had to drop the bomb on Nagasaki.

It still gives me chills when I think about how Kokura escaped that bombing and firestorm at the last minute, and Nagasaki got kicked in the ass instead.

Cheers.

@1stGenAmerican, Its been a while.

I got an intuitive inner nudge and just wanted to know that you were not in the areas that hurricane Ian struck, and that you're okay with your folks and friends too.

We are in the hurricane season and the Florida area, and Southern Carolinas were really affected by
the horrendous floodings and scenes of devastation after "Ian" first made landfall in Florida last week.

Smash the "like" button if you're doing OK and your entire being resonates with this post.

Stay out of trouble. Ciao.wink

Gosh! A CMD did this?

This is clearly a mental health problem based on the fact that he left a lot of evidence from the crime scences unhidden.

A lot of folk have to go for regular mental therapy ASAP.

Horus:
There are several African legends about the paths hurricanes follow; it is no accident they follow the routes of former slave ships.
According to African legend hurricanes are the work of angry African ancestors stolen from their homeland exacting revenge for the millions of African lives killed in the Atlantic Ocean and those who survived the transatlantic forced into slavery in the Caribbean, USA, and South America
@Horus,

These slave ship route tales and urban legends do NOT explain why typhoons (the Asian equivalent of hurricanes) are also devastating
Asian countries such as Japan.

Even those hurricanes over the centuries have killed thousands of descendants of enslaved Africans in the 2005 hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Haiti, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, etc.

All the best.

This has nothing to do with "climate change".
For the records @BuddhaPalm,

The dude you quoted is absolutely right.

This hurricane Ian and other major hurricanes or typhoons that have made landfalls in the U.S., the
Caribbean islands, and Japan, etc, have gained massive momentum during the hurricane seasons due to the disruptive effects of climate change.

Investigate this fact yourself and we'll all be on the same page.

Foreign AffairsRe: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by AlphaTaikun:
1stGenAmerican:
Why would Biden need to take a test due to Trump’s baseless theories when doctors at Walter Reed, the very hospital that treated Trump for COVID (which he previously said didn’t exist) consistently give Biden a great bill of health? Biden completed law school in 1968 and has always remembered enough to keep is credentials active but Trump (who claims Biden is senile) can’t remember a story (lie) he told a day before?

Why did Trump rush to Walter Reed for Covid treatment instead of ingesting bleach or taking Ivermectin, the things he urged his followers to ingest? The guy is a joke of a reality television actor.

This example proves it all.
https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/apr/19/facebook-posts/biden-was-gesturing-towards-his-audience-not-shaki/
Nicely put!

In addition, there's advanced medical work in the field of gene therapy that helps in reversing the ageing process in our bodies. The damaged body cells self-rejuvenate.

Early tests in the U.S. on humans have been hugely successful and an elder statesman like President Biden can easily benefit from advanced
gene therapy [if in a worse case scenario, his mental and/or physical health fail him].
