PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by AndreUweh(m):
aribisala0: Ibo is not wrong sir. That is a legitimate anglicized spelling when using "ENGLISH" alphabets.

There is a difference between ENGLISH and IGBO alphabets and gb in the former is completely different from the latter. If you write Igbo down and ask any ENGLISH person to pronounce it his rendition will still be unsatisfactory. We must not forget that gb sounds are quite widespread in Nigeria and Igbo =Eeeg bo

means different things to different people. What this illustrates is the difficulty of expressing African sounds with foreign alphabets. I am very familiar with the correct pronunciation of the word and in my view NEITHER spelling is satisfactory

You will find it in any English Dictionary and even Achebe used it in earlier editions of Things fall Apart. Just like COLOR and COLOUR

Ibo and Igbo are both correct and you can't force everyone into your preference.
Igbo and Ibo are not correct. It is Igbo. As you are known as Aribisala0 in this forum, it will not be proper to insult you by spelling your id as Arigbisala0. Ndigbo have made it known since 1973 v that it is Igbo. This was done through the Society for the Promotion of Igbo Language and Culture (SPILAC),a body set up for the promotion of Igbo language and culture. It is nice you mentioned Prof Achebe using Ibo earlier but he and others have stopped that since ages. Am sure you don't write Gold Coast now instead of Ghana, Upper Volta instead of Bukina Faso or Bombay instead of Mumbai.
As a matter of respect, type Igbo instead of Ibo, am sure this is not hard.

Standing5: Exactly bro!
The Truth must surely prevail irrespective of how bitter it may be.
There are so many areas that requires the truth to be told. You guys should concentrate on those areas and not just obsession with Igbo. Yorubas have been fighting wars within themselves before Biafra. They have also fought with Fulanis before Biafra. How about Awo vs Akintola wars, Obasanjo vs Mko, Ooni vs Alafin. Others will not do this for you, do it yourselves and leave Igbo matters with Ndigbo. Why are there so many stubborn people in nairaland?.

Nightshift: I'm not from Imo State, i don't know . What i'm alluding to is that no ethnic nationality has ever developed with the kind of culture we have in Igboland.
Then educate us about the one that exists in your state.
Am from Imo state and we have none.
CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by AndreUweh(m): 12:39pm On Jan 12, 2013
^^^Most have maintained that the migrations were Igbo moving from one place to another. For example, Abagworo has always maintained that Akalaka who later founded some Igbo clans in Rivers state was an Igboman who left Benin to Igboland.

MODS & SUPERMOD,
Please modify threads topics that has Yoruba instead of Yoruba and Ibo instead of IGBO. It's high time we let foreigners who come here to know the correct spellings of our people. I know a lot of school drop-outs here continually type Ibo but that is wrong.
CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by AndreUweh(m): 11:50am On Jan 12, 2013
Ndigbo do not go about teaching people their language. All the places Ndigbo have settled, there is no history of them teaching people their language and culture. To the north, all the Igbo neighbours do not practice Igbo culture nor speak Igbo. Ndigbo are settled in Cameoun and Equatorial guinea for over 300 years, yet their neighbours over there do not speak Igbo nor practice Igbo culture. As a consequence, it is a fallacy for someone to claim that Igbo people migrated across the Niger and influenced people with their culture and language. Even in recent places where Ndigbo have settled e.g Badagry, Cotonou, Abidjan, Suleija, Gwagwalada, Yenogoa etc, their neighbours or indigenes of those areas do not speak Igbo and Ndigbo as in the past have not hired translators or teachers to teach them Igbo language. The Nri (Igbo) culture that is practiced in Anioma did not come with force nor translators. So those who practice the Igbo culture there are Igbo.
We do know about the ancient Benin empire and how they influenced their neighbours. The ancient Benin empire extended east wards and as a result Ndigbo were affected by this eastward expansion. So no surprise about the Bini aristocracy etc you find in Igboland.
On Ohanaeze Ndigbo, its a pity some fools up till now do not know that Ohanaeze is not a body that one can register individually. It is an outright stupidity for one to draw a whole lists of his village elders and ask us which one is in Ohanaeze. To know who is in Ohanaeze is easily learnt from Obis and your elected representatives into Ime Obi of Ohanaeze. Only last September, all the Obis were at a function of Ndigbo in Asaba to represent their various communities. No notable Obi from Delta state was absent. Any dimwit who has a problem with followers of Ohanaeze should go to the Obis and ask them to phuck off from Ohanaeze instead of displaying stupidity every now and then.
I reside in the U.K and the president of Agbor Town union mr P. Nweke is a devoted member and a strong supporter of onu Anioma and Ohanaeze Ndigbo not just him alone but most other Ikas. Even the newly formed Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Berkshire, England has Ikas as members of this organisation. The Ikas in this thread who have pulled out of Igbo are on their own and I respect their wishes, but must not claim to represent Ika people who are proud Igbo.
PoliticsRe: is Southwest really Irrelevant In Nigerian Politics? by AndreUweh(m): 12:00am On Jan 10, 2013
bilms: SOUTHWEST IS IRRELEVANT IN NIGERIAN POLITICS. Southwest is irrelevant in the present Nigerian politics. The irrelevance of this region ensures that,it didn't occupy any meaningful position of power, like the position of the president, vice president, senate president, speaker of the house, chief judge, deputy senate president and deputy speaker in Nigeria. Do you agree with this statement?
South west produced head of state or government in 1976-79
1993
1999-2007.
Leave our south west alone biko.

dayokanu: You mean you guys were suckered into the Azikwe Ebele name scam?

Thats too cheap bro. So to win votes in your side I should just claim KANU?

When i want votes from SE my NL username would come in handy dayoKANU
I have seen a lot of people being called Nixon, Clinton, Churchill etc because of those famous politicians. During the days of Zik of Africa especially during his crusade against colonialism and as president of Nigeria, some parents gave their kids such as Nnamdi or Azikiwe. GEJ acquired that name because his parents were Zik's fans.
2nd, Ndigbo voted for Jonathan because he was a better choice, a new generation politician and from the Eastern region.

Seun is not from Lagos neither does he reside in Lagos, though he is more intelligent than those running the show in Lagos.
CultureRe: Ethnic Groups in Nigeria, Less Than 40 by AndreUweh(m): 12:13am On Jan 09, 2013
ijaw citizen: The list on southern nations is quite authentic and on point. Southern Nigeria is made up of less than 10 ethnic nationalities; yoruba, igbo, edo, urhobo/isoko, ijaw, ogoni and efik/ibibio/anaang/ekoi (generally regarded as Calabars). Its high time we ignore all these nigerian lies and propaganda because Ijaw alone consist of Ibani, Ibeno, obolo, andonni, kalabari, engenni, abua/odual, okrika, nkoroo, nembe, ogbia etc yet they were counted as different groups to create misconception. I hate nigeria cos every thing is a lie; constitution, census figures, nation heroes, economy, wazobia too is a lie, which kinda of country is this, I will never be a nigerian, Nigeria to me is an illusion.
They did that to the Igbo people as well. Some Igbo people have bought that idea and now see themselves as distinct ethnic nations e.g Ekpeye, Ikwerre etc.
Very nonsensical.

The chap here hasn't got the opportunity to show what he can do, but I believe he will do better than all the Yorubas that are tried so far.

PoliticsRe: Yoruba Governor For Enugu In 2015 by AndreUweh(m): 12:24am On Jan 08, 2013
dayokanu: Where did it happen in the past. Which Yoruba man became Enugu governor
Enugu has in the past produced mayors who are not of Wawa origin. Hausas, Igalas etc.
As a result, a Yoruba man may become a governor in that state one day. I will personally vote for a Yoruba man who is capable of doing a decent job.
PoliticsRe: Yoruba Governor For Enugu In 2015 by AndreUweh(m): 12:16am On Jan 08, 2013

@Geez. Ojukwu's lying-in-state at Abuja and Lagos was not made for the public, so scanty crowd was expected. Compare that to the public one here

I'd like to write a book about Mr Osewa someday. He is so lenient, so forgiven and a good sportsman. He listens to the wishes of forumites and treats everyone equally.
In his own website, posters have regularly insulted him yet he has not banned them for eternity. Where in this world has such happened?.
I think Seun was created by Chukwu on a Sunday.

So who do we believe
Mr Igbokwe, Ohaneze , Andre uweh, tomakint or Abadaba
Mr Osiris, even the photograph you inserted here are not Igbo people, but Hausas trying so hard to win Igbo support.
The chap in question only aired his personal view.

So shouldnt we take the guys below to seriously even with their singlet, Wrapper and red cap?

The chap is not representing Ndigbo in Kano. Ndigbo in Kano has a branch of Ohanaeze in that state and they are the ones to be taken seriously. At this moment, it hasn't come from them.
When yorubas make similar assumptions, you don't take it seriously, even here in Nairaland-Musiwa, the most popular Yoruba poster makes worse assumptions. Such as western Niger is bigger than the entire north. Yet you do not comment over those issues. Why Ndigbo?.
PoliticsRe: Igbo Man Should Be The Next Govornor In Kano. by AndreUweh(m): 10:16pm On Jan 07, 2013
dayokanu: Igbo 40% of kano voters, Lets say Yoruba 10%, Other Northern tribes maybe 15%, Other Southern minorities like 5%. SO hausas are like 30%
Why do you take all this figures so seriously?. Please leave Igbo affairs for Ndigbo.

Since according to this report they are the majority in voting strengths, higher than the indigenous Hausas and other resident ethnic groups.

http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-buhari-in-crossfire-over-jos-campaign-deaths/88314/

I think the best thing that can happen to the Hausa/Fulani is to allow Igbos rule them. The next governor in Kano must wear red cap.
Surely, you are not Igbo. In a region Igbo are been killed in large numbers and the only thing you can proffer is to be Governor of Kano state.
Dude, stop it.
FamilyRe: How Can One Overcome Language Barrier In Marriage? by AndreUweh(m): 5:17pm On Jan 06, 2013
I do not know if all these stories are make-belief. Everyday on nairaland it is always one yoruba saying he married Ebira, Igbo etc. It is hardly the other way round. Does it mean that marriageable yoruba ladies have reduced so drastically in Nigeria?.
Anyway, if you marry anyone other than your ethnicity, be prepared to learn his/her language as well as tolerate their kins speaking the language.
