You want to know the reason we do not want to be refered as onye ibgo? this is why, onye igbo means a slave. this is one of the many reasons. I will not tell you more because you will not read it just as you did not read my previose post well before replying. or will say you read it but do not understand which makes you a semi illitrate. had you read it and understood it you would not have responded in the manner you did. firstly I did not write that we will not have anything to do with the igbos, secondly I did not say that french and english is same, go back and read it one more time. "similarity" does not mean "same" thirdly, I told you guys not to be isulting people but only what you are good at is isulting people. Anyway, I will forgive you because I know your type. you are a typical igbo man, you people use it to intimidate your opponents during aguements instead of stating facts. the igbos believes that who insults more wins aguements. I ask you before but you did not give me an answer so I am going to ask you again, Will you (igbo) agree to be refered as an ukwani man? answer to the question or forever remain silent.
What an idiotic question you are asking at the bolded. Will I an Isinweke man accept to be called an Nnewiman, Owerriman or Nkwerreman?. Can an Ikaman, Asabaman accept to be called Ukwauaniman?. The aswer is no but collectively they are all called Igbo. I refered you to the great Ukwani politicians who were active in the Igbo union before the war, yet you failed to go and read about it, because you do not want to grow. You are one of those foools brainwashed by your fathers that you are not Igbo. What a shame. Even if you disclaim Igbo, more intelligent posters of Ukwuani origin in this forum have always maintained their Igbo pride for example; Chyz, Oweniwe, Paddy lo etc.

The football world has a short memory. Only word that matters is NOW.

BTW, the Drog statement was outta anger.
He's still and will always be a hero at the Bridge.
Well said. Now, let's pray he gets a contract extension.

All this attack on Drogba is not fair. Alex, Bosingwa and Torres have all picked up red cards, yet no one seems to complain about them. Why all this hatred on our West African brother?.
Stop it guys.

aribisala0:
in order to understand this issue it is important to know the origin of the word yoruba.
from all indications it would appear that those people known as yoruba today only started calling themselves as such quite recently.
this has been largely due to european colonialist influence partly and also partly due to the fact that there are no indigenous written records.
all so-called yoruba peoples speak language(s) /dialect(s) that are mutually intelligible but traditionally regarded themselves as ondo, ijebu, ekiti, egba, ijesha, ogbomina etc and were fiercely proud of these identities.
there is contemporary utility in being called yoruba as it creates the illusion of a single nationality and unity which has NEVER existed.
even the language was known as Anago and the term Olukumi was quite universal in what is now called yorubaland as such many are known as anagos outside nigeria.
modern historians have confused issues in their written accounts and those "yorubas" who have been schooled with these accounts believe the myth of their yorubaness.
in fact by the time the word Yoruba became known among many groups it was used to refer mainly to Oyo people/speakers.
certainly all the elderly ijebus i knew in the 70s referred to ARA-OKE people as awon yoruba = yoruba people.
as such if you have a group of anago speakers that are encysted in time in anioma they are not likely to use the word Yoruba in referring to themselves because factually they are NOT yoruba .
it is my understanding that this creation of a monolith homogenous group base on speaking dialects of a similar language is NOT restricted to the so called Yoruba but is also true of other major language/ethnic groups in Nigeria.
its utility lies in collective strength against "other" out groups but its validity is dubious. however without such devices it is impossible to form great nation states with a single identity e.g. hausa, germans, arabs
WORD.

CultureRe: Respect For Elders: Who Does It More/better? by AndreUweh(m): 9:28am On Oct 24, 2011
I have always maintained that other ethnic groups are ignorant of Igbo culture. For those who have not been to the East yet, at least Nigerian films should educate you more. The Igbo use Mazi as Hausas use Mallam. The Igbo also use Dee or Dede as Yorubas use Egbon. Delta Igbo and Anambra areas use Brother or uncle as Dee is not a common usage there. In Yorubaland, some use brother or uncle as well. For example Uncle Muyiwa, uncle Dapo etc.
My advice to those who reside in Lagos or other major Nigerian cities, do not turn blind eyes when Igbo programmes are shown in your local TV stations.

My friend, do not insult me please! We are here to discuse not to abuse people!do not say anything just for the sake of saying it, if you do not know, know now, most french and engish gramers has S-I-O-N and T-I-O-N as thir differences. And please think and raeson mormaly, would you like to be called an ukwani man because your language (igbo) has some similarities with ukwani language? too would you not ask yourself if maybe igbo(the word igbo)is a kind of offensive word in ukwani language? please! my friend you do not know the ukwuani language so the best thing you should try to find out is why the ukwuani people do not want to be called igbos. Do you want us to unite for the progress of us all? fine! unity they say is power. diversity does not mean ununitable and unitying does not mean given up ones identity. what i am saying is that we can unite for good but we will not give up our identity in the name of unity. escuse me!
You have not mentioned your reasons for not being Igbo. You are only ranting back and backwards. Only illiterate and daft individuals will assume English and french are same. I gave you an example of Izzi dialect of Igbo spoken in Abakiliki that most Igbo people hardly understand, yet they are proud Igbo people. Even Chinenye earlier wrote in his own Igbo dialect, yet it is Igbo. Why are all this shameless maggots coming here to display stupidity at all time?. I know you are a toddler, but go and find out why your foremost politicians like Hon Otutu Oputa were very active in the Igbo union affairs in the 50's. Are you more Ukwuani than him. What a shame.

Anioma is like bayelsa state. Is Bayelsa an ethnic group?. Bayelsa was formed from Brass, Yenogoa and Sagbama divisions of the old Eastern region. BA-YEL-SA.
Only fools are pushing hard for Anioma to be an ethnic group, as a consequence, Alh Harem do not be part of that insanity.

Ukwani people are not igbos. u all are getting it all wrong, know that the igbo spoken words (language) is called igbo. the ukwani laguage is called ukwani with the two language shearing some similarities but that does not make the two the same, clear? Agree, the english and french has some similitudes in lang and in culture; therefore will you say or ask if an english man is french? We (ukwani people) are not igbos, if we are igbos our greatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreatgreatgrandgrandgrandgrandgrandgrandgrandfather would have told us so!
Quit being silly and stop chatting rubbish here. The french and the English are not same nor do they speak the same language.  The war is long over and there is no reason whatsoever for any Ukwuani, Ukwuala man to disclaim Igbo. Ukwuani is a dialect of Igbo language just like Izzi is a dialect of Igbo language. Yet Izzi people are not insane to disclaim Igbo.
Mr attention looker.

Why are you people so biased when it comes to saying the truth? Only one question will say it all, which tribe other than yoruba use to call his elderly ones brother or sister? Or na igbo wey everybody is called chime without knowing the elderly ones between the younger ones and the older ones or hausa? I need an answer to this from you guys.
Quit chatting crap here. It is an outright stupitdity for one to comment about a group that s/he has no sufficient knowledge of. The Igbo usually call elders dede, dee, nda. Some parts of Anambra, Enugu and Anioma are not used to dee or dede but usually say Uncle Uche, Brother Uche etc.
In Obowu, Isinweke and Nsu areas of Igboland, it is WUNEOKO, BOBO, BAABA, YEYE, DEEDE and DEE.

@Andre uweh, the tribalistic champion of all things igbo, welcome to my post. you don't have to insult, you see you think your IQ is so formidable when in fact you are a stone throw away from lifelong idiocy.

Ibibio/efik Food is definitely better than ibo food. Ibo's also eat termites, ants etc, probably due to the misadventure Ojukwu shepherded your ethnic group into.

It would interest you to know that 1 of your Ibo sister cannot do without my love and she is the one that started the pointless arguement.

everyone agrees with me that food from the C River/Akwa Ibom region is indeed better than Ibo cuisine.

You evidently also do although you are trying to group their food under your ndigbo umbrella.

Better luck next time sport.

hows the massob movement by the way?

besides, oath taking is not a preserve of traditions of Africans alone, up till tomorrow, people still swear with Bible, Quran etc in court proceedings.

let her swear if she is innocent.

anybody that is not comfortable with our tradition should go and live in London or America, when in Rome, u must behave like a Romanian

I do not know about the Dibias in that area. But from my own part of the East, we have Dibias that see very far and spiritually. Some use the mirror system. This mirror system is like CCTV. Here the culprit is shown for all to see and no denying it.
In this case, it should be applied to bring justice to the town.
