Culture › Re: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by AndreUweh(m): 10:03pm On Aug 24, 2011 |
agbotaen: 1. i have always said ika people have varying languages , we often here each other ,but some times meanings and use of words are different, if an abavo man speaks it will be slightly different from an umunede or at the extreme a person from mbiri or igbodo. 2. i have not classified any body as igbo, i dont know who is igbo or who is not , all i know is who is ika and who is not. 3. it was the british that brought many tribes in nigeria under one umbrella, so its more political, lets say 200 years ago , all we have was just kingdoms and empires , so when the british came people now decided to become igbo or hausa or bini or ishan , according to where they think they will be favoured politically , so they did form this rigid tribal basis in nigeria , and every group has the right and freedom to align with any group , just like anioma was conceived in 1951 , right now we have many people who think anioma has existed since eternity . 4. people come together with people they think they have things in common with , the vast majority of ika , have seen the various things that tie them together ,and they are one unit , and we are not interested in joining any major group, we are just our own people and we are ika.which some people are not happy about. 5. as an owa/ ika man , i have never denied that there are igbo migrations or igbo culture in ika , so also i cannever deny our deep bini connections , infact that is why we are the land of east meets west. 6. the egun people in lagos speak a different language from standard yoruba but they decided to be called yoruba that is their business, isoko speaks a close language to uhrobo , but they decided to be isoko, ishan speaks close language to bini , but they decided to be called ishan, itsekiri speaks a mix of yoruba and edo , but they decided to be itsekiris neither yoruba or bini, so also ika people speak a mix of igbo, bini and some ishan and we decided we are ikas, and that is strictly our business. Dude stop the use of ''WE'' and preplace it with ''I''. You are speaking for yourself not Owa or Ika people. Do not pretend as if you have not read any of Ogbuefi's post here. Ogbuefi is an Ikaman and a proud Igbo. Your constant use of 'we' makes it look as if you are the monarch of Ika or Owa kingdom. Respect yourself poor boy. Can you do the forumites here a favour by answering ChinenyeN's question. What makes other groups Igbo and Ika is not?. It is a pity you keep on dodging questions thrown to you all the time. |

jason123: @ odumchi and Andre The electoral figures are a pointer to the true population distribution of Nigeria, even if you don't believe the census(I don't neither). And according to this, Hausas r more than the Yorubas AND Yorubas r more than the Igbos.
About doing an ethnic census, lol what if they do it and igbos are smaller than ijaws? Forget sentiments but it can happen! I mean, really guys, does it even matter? What do you want the ogonis or gwaris to do? As far as I am concerned, I'll go with the GIVEN population figures until its proven otherwise, I suppose you reside in the U.K. Do they not know the population of the Welsh, Scots, Irish etc?. It should also be done in Nigeria as it is done in civilised world. It will not be a problem if the Edo are more than Yorubas or Kanuri is more than Hausas, but it is ideal for groups to know their numbers. |

Enugu sons and daughters have done a lot towards the development of the places I mentioned. I have seen what is on the ground and more to accomplished. Those people are great. |

afam4eva: Rivers should not be there. I don't like one-city states like Rivers, Cross river, Enugu. Enugu is not a one-city state, though you hail from Enugu state. Coming from Awgu-Enugu-9th mile- Nsukka-Obollo-Afor will highlight to you the level of development in that state courtesy of sheer individual or communal efforts. |

afam4eva: Ogun state is in the same category with Rivers. Even though PH is more developed than Abeokuta. I still think Ogun has an edge because it has ijebu-ode, Sango and Sagamu which are relatively developed. Rivers state will be like any other state in Nigeria minus Port Harcourt. Ogun is still the in thing followed by Anambra state. |

harakiri: That's because human beings are always seeking a scape goat to blame for their insecurities! An igbo man will tell you that yoruba people are extremely dirty but I have seen igbo households that look like refuse dumps. A yoruba man will tell you that Igbo's are wicked and evil and yet, some of the heartless actions I've seen are commited by yorubas. An igbo man will tell you that yorubas are betrayers and not to be trusted and yet, its the same people that frustrated Alex Ekweme from becoming president and preferred Obasanjo (a serving convict) to their fellow man. Yorubas will tell you igbos are greedy businessmen who love to cheat in business and yet, if you go to Owode-Onirin and tell them you want to sell your bmw X6 which you bought for N14million and has bashed headlights, the yoruba buyers will offer you N70,000 as their best offer! What am I trying to say? It all boils down to people blaming others for their short comings and insecurities. This has been a major factor in wars and ethnic clashes e.g the ife and modakeke fracas (yoruba neighbours slaughtering their fellow brothers like rams) and the umuleri and aguleri blood bath (fellow igbo neighbours trying to exterminate each other). It's that simple! You got it wrong on Ekwueme. Ndigbo voted for him in all the PDP conventions which he lost to Obasanjo. Ndigbo did not disappoint him but other geo-political zones failed him. It's high time falsehood stops spreading around. |

The woman third from left's top is not Igbo style. It is a Yoruba top or style. But then, most groups that tye two wrappers are Igbo and other southern groups minus Yoruba. Nowadays, you see Igbo women and others in Yoruba style of wrappers. The identity of the women is Igbo but then, I will speak to Uche Nworah about this.
