This may be a good development but at the same time, Imo state University has to be relocated to Etiti. The site of the old Imo state university is still under utilised. It is not proper for every high institution to be located in Owerri. Alternatively, Imo state can establish a state poly at Etiti campus of the old Imo state university.
CultureRe: The Igbos Are Probably Nigeria's Most Populous Ethnic Group? by AndreUweh(m): 6:15pm On Aug 17, 2011
@Alh Harem, you are the one who has continually spread falsehood in this thread. I did say Ndigbo are the third largest group in West Africa. I did put Hausa/fulani and Yoruba ahead of Ndigbo. Where is the lie in it?.
I did say that only in Iwo road Ibadan, the number of Ndigbo there is higher than the entire Yoruba people in Imo state. Where is the lie?.
But you are the one claiming that there are more Yorubas than Ndigbo in Benue state-a state that has an indigenous Igbo population. That chat of yours is like me saying that there are more Ndigbo than Yorubas in Kogi state. That will be a lie because Yorubas are natives in Kogi.
Despite the fact you have resided in Borno in the past, yet you claimed that there are more Yorubas there than Ndigbo. This is coming at a time you are suppose to be upright before Allah. Do you not regret all this lies of yours.
PoliticsRe: I Dare Tinubu To Run Against Musiwa by AndreUweh(m): 10:11pm On Aug 16, 2011
There are so many factors that will count against Musiwa in Western Nigeria especially against Tinubu.
1, Musiwa will be contesting against ACN which is Tinubu's party. Most Westerners are ACN mebers.
2. The money factor. Tinubu is one of the richest men in Yorubaland. He has enough money to share round.
The Igbo factor. Ndigbo may vote for Tinubu because of the ggod relationship that exist between them.
Above all, Tinubu is more popular than Musiwa in Yorubaland.

@Chyz, I wonder how someone who claims he has been fasting could come here and spill such lies that nairalanders has never read before. I wonder how the few mechanics, battery chargers, taxi drivers could swell up the number of Yorubas in Port Harcourt to the extent they are more than Ngwa, Mbano or Ohafia people in Port Harcourt.
Even in Benue state that has indigenous Igbo population, Alh Hrem claims Yorubas are in Majority.
@Alh Harem, there are about 3 hundred thousand Ndigbo in the U.S as against Yorubas 80, 000.
In Europe, only in mainland Britain that Yorubas outnumber Ndigbo. In Malaysia, news reaching me recently has it that there are 30,000 Ndigbo in that and the next Nigerian group after Ndigbo are people of Edo/Delta while the Yoruba population in that country are less than 3,000.

Posting photographs of archaic and dilapilated Yoruba houses is not enough to make any one believe there are more Yorubas than Ndigbo in Nigeria. Even as close as Benin city is to Yorubaland, you still have more Ndigbo in that city more than Yorubas. The places Yoruba outnumber Ndigbo is in Western Nigeria, Kwara state and Kogi states.
Even in some places in Western Nigeria, Ndigbo and Yorubas are at par for example in Badagry. Though the largest group there are the Egun people.
Worldwide, it is only in mainland Britain and Benin rep that has larger concentration of Yorubas than Ndigbo.

@Alh Harem, what do you expect me to learn from you, when I do not even read all you chat here. There is an easter Nigeria proverb that says that what one is wearing in his wrist, does not require a mirror to view it. I have resided in Oyo state in the past and has been to almost every part of Yorubaland. Also second half of my secondary school and university education were at Ibadan. As a consequency, I am better suited to compare Igboland where I originally come from and Yorubaland where I spent some years. This is unlike you guys that have never left Lagos state.
Do yourself a favour, take a trip to Iwo Road, Ibadan from Lagos and find out things by yourself. When you have done that, then you will be convinced that the number of Ndigbo in Iwo Road alone is higher than the entire Yoruba population in Imo state. The only Yoruba people you will find in Imo state are youth corp members, some policemen and some soldiers. About 800 in total.
In terms of population, Ndigbo are the largest ethnic group in Southern Nigeria and probably the third largest in West Africa after Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba.

Igboland is small in terms of land mass, it does't matter if Oyo state is bigger though that is a shameless lie.
The truth is, Yorubaland is bigger than Igboland in terms of land mass while Ndigbo is bigger than Yorubas in terms of population. It's true.

Yorubas are by far more than 1,000 in the east. Port Harcourt alone has 12,000 Yoruba people (rough estimate). A lot of them work in the oil sector. Others are engaged in taxi business, mechanic workshops, battery charging and hotel business. The Yoruba hotels are crowd pullers. I do eat in those places when am overthere. But I had a bad experience with one of the hotels not long ago as they served me a plate of rice filled with sand.
In Igboland, Hausas are mostly in Okigwe and they number about 4,000. In the big cities like Port Harcour and Enugu, they have large numbers as well. In Gariki/Awkunanaw Enugu, there are about 2,000 hausas there.
That nothwithstanding, the population of Ndigbo in Iwo Road Ibadan is bigger that the entire Yoruba population in Imo state, my state of origin.

@Alh Harem, there is no reason whatsoever why there can't be ethnic census. It is done in the western world.
Every Nigerian knows that there are more Igbos than Yorubas in the north except in Kwara state for a reason we all know.
In the West, the only group that comes close to the Yoruba is Ndigbo. Then followed by Edo/Delta, Cross River/AkwaIbom and Hausas.
In Lagos, Ndigbo are not only found in business but civil service, education and all spheres of life.
It is an out right stupidy for anyone to compare Hausa people who sell sugarcane, Suya and Black market to Igbo population in Lagos.
Let there be ethnic census in Nigeria.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benue_State
On Benue state read the above link. Apart from Okpoku LGA that are predominantly Igbo speaking, there also Igbo in Obi and Oju LGA's.
On those who may deny Igbo: It is an individual thing, they have not come out as a group to disclaim Igbo and hence they are represented in Ohanaeze.
On Oyo state, Ndigbo are mostly found in Ibadan. Areas such as Agbowo, Abadina, Ikolaba, Ekotedo, Mokola, Oke Ado, Molete, Challenge, Dugbe, New Bodija and Sango has large concentration of Ndigbo. In other towns in Oyo state, they are not in hundreds of thousands but in thousands mostly engaged in business.
On Ogun state: Almost all the business centres is dominated by Ndigbo in Abeokuta with the exception of Igbore market that is mostly Adire materials. Shagamu and Ijebu Ode has large concentration of Ndigbo and they constitute 20% of those towns. Otta and other towns close to Lagos has also large concentration of Ndigbo.
Now compare that with Imo state that has 98% Ndigbo. Abia 96%, Enugu 94% and Anambra 92%. In the entire East, you have less than 20,000 Yorubas against 2 million Ndigbo in the south west minus Lagos with over 4 million.
How about Ndigbo of Ndoki origin located in Etim Ekpo and Ika Lga's in Akwa Ibom.?.
@ Alh Harem, it is a known fact that there more Ndigbo in Nigeria than Yorubas. But it is not certain between Hausa and Igbo who is more numerous.

Once again, land mass is not a determinant in head count, why is this a problem for you. Agreed, Igbo land is small but you will not travel half a kilometre without finding people. I gave you an example of Mbaise in Imo state. The original natives of Lagos is no where near in size to Mbaise population.
FYI, if an ethnic census is conducted in Lagos state, the 4 million out of 12 million people in Lagos will not be counted as Yoruba but Igbo. In Oyo state, 1 million Ndigbo out of 5 million people in Oyo state will be counted as Ndigbo.

In Kwara state, the northern part is not Yoruba, the middle part is a misture of groups while the south is Yoruba. Even at that, the Igbo population in Rivers state is bigger than the entire Kwara state population.
in KOGI state, the Yoruba population is nothing compared to 1.5 million Igbo people in Delta state.
The Olukumi in Delta state who are less than 1,000 can not be compared to Okpoku LGA of Benue state who are Igbo speaking and number about 100 thousand.
In total, Igboland is half of Yorubaland in land mass while Yoruba population is just about half of Igbo population.
CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by AndreUweh(m): 12:09am On Aug 14, 2011
Agbontaen is so such a brainless poster. He is not ashamed of himself after Ezeagu has given him the book written by the Obi of Owa which points to Nri as the origin of Owa people.
Secondly, he said that only 5% of Ika people claim Igbo ancestry. When Ogbuefi1 appeared at the thread, he reduced the Igbo of Ika as just Igbodo, Akumazi and Ekwuoma.
He also claimed that no Ika Obi belongs to Ohanaeze, but when he was informed of Obi of Akumazi's role in Ohanaeze, then he restricted his comment to Owa.
Why are some people so shameless?.
