bamosagie:
I am from Edo and I speak yoruba because I spent time in ibadan, schooled there and studied yoruba. Members of my extended do not speak yoruba because they've not stayed in yoruba land. Point is the chance of edo speaking yoruba is equal to that of an IGBO or Hausa.
You are right in a way. Igbo people are quick learners and most of them who reside in Yorubaland also speak Yoruba like Edos who have spent yesars in Yorubaland.
Secondly, hasn't anyone told you that Ibo is wrong. It is Igbo.

PoliticsRe: ‘ACN marginalising Lagos indigenes’ by AndreUweh(m): 9:36pm On Aug 08, 2011
The problem here is that those who have come from the Hinterland Western Nigeria to Lagos do claim Lagos as their own state of origin. Now the main indigenes have to suffer for this. Unlike in Port Harcourt where Ndigbo from the hinterland still maintain that they come from Mbaise, Mbano, Etiti, Umuahia , Owerri, Afikpo etc.
Anyway, let the best candidates be elected for every position in Lagos irrespective of him coming from Ijebu Egba, Mbaise, Nnewi, Etsako, Nupe etc.
Andre,

Please name the wars you fought with the British and the years.

Can this be independently verified?
Apart from the Ekumeku wars, you have heared about Aro-British wars which had been projected as the war to end all wars in the Igbo area proved to be only the beginning. In the event military expeditions far from being the exception virtually became the rule. The War against the Aro ended in March 1902. But before the end of the year it had become neccessary to mount two expeditions against Igbo groups who were supposed to have been conquered along with the Aro. The first was against the Olokoro clan of Umuahia, and the second against Afikpo and Umunneoha in 1903. Then came Akwete Patrol and the grand Onitsha Hinterland Expedition in 1904. In 1905, The Ezza, the Ovoro, NONYA, Onicha and Ahiara were defeated. Two years later Isikwuato, Urualla, Etche, Ntarakpu and Isiagu were fought and conquered. The years 1908, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1914 saw scores of military units fighting and subduing various vuillages and settlements which still regard themselves as independent of the British. Eleven such expeditions were mounted in 1915. By 1917, troops of the protectorate were still marching up and down Igboland conquering violent, and overawing passive resisters.
Now NegroNTS, Shut up forever.
I've discussed the topic with people far knolwedgable than you on Ibo culture and they all agree you don't have any one hereditary.

Yorubas have Oduduwa. Hausas have Bayajjida. Ibos have none! The Nri you all claim is a subordinate to Aro confederacy, which itsel no one knows where its roots lie. Is it indigenus or settler, no one can tell.

Everything point to a bunch of different peoples forced away from their roots and conglomerated under a language.

Go down African history and study how great peoples acrrue power. If colonization had not happened you would by now be a tributary of Bini empire. Whiteman saved you from an inevitable wipeout.
Not all the Yoruba believe in this your Oduduwa crap. Southern Yoruba groups such as Egbas and Ijebus do not have any claims to Oduduwa. Some other southern Yoruba groups who now falsely look unto Oduduwa as their pregenitor do so because of politics. Anyway, that is if at all there was any Oduduwa coming from sky or the sky coming from Oduduwa.

The caretakers has been sworn in since last Thursday. A free and fair elections will be held at a later time. Throught the reign of Ohakim, no LG elections were held and only last year's August, he installed PDP guys as Chairmen in all the LGA's without any polls. Am happy, that has come to an end.
A race is different from a tribe.

Your people are united under one language, hence you are not a race but rather a patch up, a mix and match of different peoples congregated under a common language -Ibo.

We Yorubas are not a tribe. We are different dialects of same language congregated under a hereditary - a race!
The same way the Igbo nation emerged is the same way the Yoruba nation emerged. Agreed Igbo is a conglomeration of different dialects but one language. Yoruba is the same, no common ancestry but a collection of different groups and subgroups. Deny it to your own peril.

What a load of bullshitt from you. It is an outright stupidity to classify Edo alongside Ijebu, Ekiti, Offa and so on. Edo people have always been distinct from Yoruba in language and culture. Stop all this moronic attempts at snatching Edoland for your Yoruba kins. Anyway, there is no sane Yoruba that will do that except you Negro NTS.
What a shame.

Lagos is not the only place in yorubaland that the Binis expanded to. They conquered the Owo yorubas, Ekiti areas, etc. so dont fool yourself.
Wrong Andre.

Edo do not need to spend time in Yorubaland to speak the language, they already are speaking it as a dialect.

Yoruba - Oba a pe l'aye

Edo - Oba a to k'paye.

Meaning: may the King live long!
It does not mean Edo people speak Yoruba. Unless you are a foreigner, every Nigerian knows that Edos are Edos with their own languages and dialects and Yorubas are Yorubas with their own language and dialects. It is not a big deal to find an Edo who speaks Yoruba as it is not also a big deal to find a Yoruba who speaks Edo. Infact, I do know lots of Yorubas who speak Bini.

It is that time again in the season when Igbo communities from Arochukwu in the east to Igbanke in the west and from Obollo-Afor in the North to Diobu in the south celebrates the end and start of agricultural season. This is celebrated with a feast known as Iri Ji or Iwa ji. It last from August even till December depending on each Igbo community.
For Ndigbo who will be travelling for this feast, I wish you all safe journey. Uzo di mma, Ije oma.
