jln115: To get here they would have to navigate past our subs... And we are all very well aware of what happened to a Nato fleet when only 1 SAN sub came up against them.....so imagine what 3 can do, our Valours however won't mean much!
As for air......mmmm! To get enough aircraft to SA from France would be extremely difficult, in the end however with over 100 Rafale they would out match us.
On the Ground i agree 100% no country has more nohow with regards to Guerrilla/COIN warfare than SA....after all we invented it an became experts at implementing and countering it......i highly doubt we would face them conventionally, but rather from the outset we would use our assets in an unconventional manner as in the Boer War.
having a look back at history, only a superpower/s have been able to successfully invade and hold land in SA, albeit with unprecedented losses to the point where one could almost classify it as only a tactical loss.
and lastly we talking about the fvcking french.
They could never get 100 air craft here. They willhave a very limted air cover. And that is usring african air bases in pupet countries.
At the start we would have a edge in conventional battle. With only a few light french forces we would have the edge in numbers and fire power. Our best chance is to hold ports for as long as we can and then destroy them if they fall. With out ports to off load at they will be at our mercy. Tge big problem is france is actually adpet at mobil war in African terrians they no America that needs to deploy with a starbucks and they are not as depended on air superiority as a lot of other countries.
Our advantge is
numbers. They could never deploy enough men
Home ground advantage. We know the terrain, the locals are many agrisve and armerd and we better of logically speaking
Superior fire power. The first wave of french would be lightly armerd. With VAB, ERC and AMX serriers. No MBT no tracked IFV and only a few support systems like ceasers. We could use our advantge in SPH and howitzers and more IFV, AFV and tanks to deadly effect.
NaijaTalkTown: I can categorically tell you that France will beat the South Africans in their airspace, coast and home soil anytime, any day. France has the most sophisticated and best trained military in Europe.
Comes down to logistics. Could the deploy and maintain that deployment so far south. One thi g to send a fleet half way arround the world it is another to stay on stastion for years. Rember south africa is arround twice the size of france.
France alone does not have logistical system to maintain the war for years. South africa does not need to win only not loose. Witch is not that hard since france cant. Send 100% of there army navy and air force down south to us. All so what if we sink there only air craft carrier hell we dont even need to sink it just dry dock it. There goes most of the air power. Now it will be air craft that needed lo g flights depended on mid flight refueling. Wepaons load will be limted and pilots fatigued and they have only a few air fields far enogh south.
Navy is a threat. They have the numbers to simply over whelm SAN but the Subs will be a big threat. Ground forces will be mostly light french forces at first VABs ERC and AMXs serries. We can both fight and beat those with out a issue
Henry240: The LY-80 is one of such better systems available.
"So you're still grasping at straws?"..... How most unfortunate.
Why is it better? Firstly they completely different guidiance systems and diffrent rang bracket. The umkhonto is short range wher the LY80 is meduime range.
The LY80 is all so guided tgrough a illumination radar method where the umkontho is IR, Radar or Dual.
Comparing these sytems is like comparing a stinger to a patriot. They fill diffrent roles in a air defence network.
NafeesaAA: What Makes Killer Herdsmen Deadly Also Makes them Vulnerable to Air Power. By NAFEESA AA ================================== Given the rapidness in which Killer herdsmen are able to maneuver, given their ability to direct indirect fire attacks followed by direct assaults with heavy weapons, it is a militarily proficient organization that has made it the 4th deadliest terror group in the world.
The Nigeria Government have consistently for years used the wrong approach. These Herdsmen are the Supreme owner of the bush, they are Masters of the bush and Lord's of bush. The best way to deal with them is to counter them from the air. These herdsmen know pretty well that the response time of Nigeria security force to any attack is 48hrs and that's enough time to burn an entire LGA not to talk of a village.
WHAT NEED TO BE DONE :- Let the FG establish a special Anti Killer Herdsmen Air units comprises of specially dedicated combat helicopters stationed at 64 Air Defence Group (ADG) NAF Makurdi and 330 NAF Station, Jos. These helicopters will be expected to be at the scene of any attack in less than 20 minutes, with Snipers popping out, and effectively take out any murdering herdsmen with ease.
Advance notice is very vital to officer as they’re responding because it gives them an opportunity to plan and it minimizes the lag time where they have to come up and make a decision on how they are going to encounter a situation. This is where Air support comes into play.
The era of using human being to fight crime without technology should be phase away. The NYPD police force says it can take 12 police officers 454 hours to search one square mile, at a cost of $4,500. But it says a police helicopter can do the same job in 12 minutes at a cost of just $160.
Air power wins all wars. Lack of Air power loses all wars. Even urban crime fighting and anti drug wars are fought now from the air. Building military battalions and MOPOL bases in areas attacked is a faulty remedy. Having these helicopters closer to potential conflict regions, we will be able to maximize the efficiency of our forces while minimizing maintenance costs and reducing the length of deployments.
The mistakes of commission have actually started to cost new lives as we saw recently in Benue.
Called a fir force team. Rhodesia and South Africa used the method. It is really effective.
nemesis2u: when i said "Armament, however, appears to be essentially the same" it was to be understood that (at least i was expecting) the readers to understand it was a generalized statement since C13B is outfitted similarly like type 056 corvette unlike P18N.
if some alien comments humans wear bras and panties , would anybody be nit picking whether the aliens meant the males or the females of the human species . it is kind of obivious isnt it .
lionel4power: well to avoid misleading the general public, the Nigerian version does not have any noticeable anti ship or anti air missile launch tube, neither does any VLS tube present in the hull although other non warfare equipment was installed such as an oil spill management suite. The P18n is an opv and is armed as such.
. no picture or proof has ever surfaced online showing the p18n spotting any offensive weapon system other than her naval guns. please correct your post
Haven got a close look at them i can say with out a doubt no missile are fitted. Though this is not a issue south africa puts boat davits on our missle decks.
frumentius: Look who came out to play at the Navy Festival 2017? SAS Mendi ! Andrewza, does that mean the dock work is finally done and as Isandlwana is next and is already stripped for refit, will she be going in?
frumentius: Rumours of my ban are greatly exaggerated. I was on the receiving end of Africaken's racist vitriol. All because I called him out for a wild statement regarding Exercise Shared Accord.
Are you going to rand show this year. If all goes while i will be there. Only issue the travel date for me is the day after the course i am on finishes. So if the extened it i am cant go. But if all goes while i will be part of the Navy GunRun team.
Navy festival this weekend. Will wait for the local photo guys to post pics. What they dont post i will make for. Like the RECCE M16 with 203 grenade launcher. All so 9SAI as some small arms like y3 automatic grenade launcher.
overhypedsteve: andrewza and fynline are the only two oldest commentators on this thread who still maintain their first account and username. others have been banned or deleted for flouting forum rules. even Henry120 have not been an exception.
It design focuses. Combat helcopters focuse on ensuring crew survivability in the event of a crash landing. As for being easier to do a emergency landing, virtue of being a helcopter.
africaken254: because helicopters are designed to crush but not what you call light aircraft !? do you even the gross empty weight with armour and without weapons of an AU-802 ISR(attack aircraft) !?
Yes helcopters are built to crash. Firstly it is easier to do a emergency landing in a helcopter. Second they have shock absorbing seats. It not about weight or armour it all about the seats.
So easier to do a emergency landing and better seats.
africaken254: because AH-64 Apache has an ejection seats and what the difference between attack and gunship helicopter you were so enlighten to quote !?
no but like all milltary helcopters you stand a better chance of surviving a crash in a AH64 than a light air craft. By the way why pic a insanly costly AH64
overhypedsteve: you see, I have tried to find one reliable link that backs the fact that the SADF used guided missiles during the Border wars and I have seen none, maybe you could just help me with one or two. https://www.sa-soldier.com/data/07-SADF-equipment/ (list of equipments used in the border wars, no guided missile listed)
Thats a very bad website choice. Did you pic it to validate your claim?
jln115: Ingwe "The weapon was first used on 10 September 1987 when a pre-production Ratel ZT3 destroyed several T-55 tanks at the Lomba River in Angola" Modern African Wars: South-West Africa by Helmoed-Romer Heitman and Paul Hannon
AS.30 AS.20 and AS.12 Missile Used on SAAF Mirage F1, 3 and Buccaneer back in the 60s
Then there's also the LRAC F1, Denel FT5 man portable launchers
And these are just Air-to-Ground/Surface-Surface missiles used in the Border War
kikuyu1: Oops! My bad-temporarily confused the LCH with Rudra:this is what you should've gone for. A lighter version of he original Rooivalk. Point remains both Rudra and LCH are selling-why isn't the Rooivalk??
Politics.
Usa won the British bid with the Hellfire missile MOD said it wanted tge hellfire US said only way you getting it is by choosing USA so the USA won that bid before there was a bid.
Turkey wanted to improve ties with the EU. Nothing says friends like a multie billion arms trade
Malaysia scraped the deal all together for a attack chopper.
After that it kind of stoped being pushed. Any one else will just buy surpless cold war stock. Plenty of unused Hinds so that removes any poor country.
Though being combat proven and along side a hind for comparison the Rooivalk could make sales in say Brazil.
TrueHeart365: still a copy. but i understand you're western as5licker.
what is this western copy this is American. the West have been making great hand held anti tank rockets for years. AT4, SMAW, Carl gustaf, ENTAC, extra extra.
