africaken254: the americans bombed hanoi because they knew the strategic importance of that city,if fresh suppliers of weapons, ammo, equipment's were being offloaded from ships in luanda port. isn't that a vital military target !?your also forgetting that back then UNITA was a well funded, equipped rebel than even syria FSA by the C.I.A only in comparison with the mujaheddin in Afghanistan.the real reason was you didn't want to escalate this war ,dragging neighbouring countries in support of the Angolan government Did that bombing by the USA change any thing? Bombing or sheeling Lunda would of been a escalation that SA did not want. The Russians for example had a small fleet in angola and never sailed in to Namibia, The Cubans and Angolans did not bomb nambia. All sides had a unwritten rule since no one wanted a total war. The losses would of been to high. There was a lot of politics in the war SA on a number of occasion launched raids on Angolan towns with special forces. They where typically in and out before any one knew what was going on. They blew up ships, supplies, fuel depos, a refinery, bridges, train engines. This method was chosen since it was impossible to proof SA did it. Sure they suspect SA but could not prove it. |

africaken254: they avoided those locations, the reason the american also snoop on enemy territory with RC-135 is to plot location of its SAM's,most MIG-23 were shot down by manpads .also the south african air force was never able to completely stop the angolans and cubans from launching their jets in angola, against you in Angola and Namibian . you were basically fighting a war that was unwinnable And that means we could penetrate the area. Again what did there jets do? I mean they had far more aircraft in theatre than SAAF, had full radar cover, Fixed and mobile AAA and SAMs and where far closer to the area. The Angolans could fly there fighters in clean setting where all SAAf aircraft had to be dirty to reach the area and then had no fuel other than what was needed to drop there bombs. Angola and Cuba where the ones who had to drive us out and there air force and air defence failed. SAAf routinely bombed targets even with all the AAA in the area. That was back then. These days we could operate with impunity in a similar area thanks to the Gripens reduced RC and advanced EW suit |

africaken254: with what ! alpha jets,F-5's,F-7,mig-21 e.t.c if you claimed you had again air superiority over angolan airspace why were you not able to bomb luanda or deny the angloans and cubans from launching their air crafts against south african forces.like america did in gulf war 1 !!!?? we did not not have air superiority that was not what you asked though you said no air force to penetrate and that we did do. As for why we did not bomb Luanda, range. All so poltics prevent many attacks. Politics saved many a Russian war ship to |

Henry240: Nemesis2u, Patches689, Mikecza and Andrewza are the primary culprits. They seem to always be in the thick of trying to derail this thread, despite the fact there are multiple alternatives to take discussions to do.
Offcourse, discussions on photographs shared in this thread are welcome, however off-topic posts, tribalism/racism(like we saw with the new guy) or cyber-bullying then the mods would be called in. The things spouted there where out right lies and had to be dealt with. I really don't want to talk about this issue but in that case I felt it needed to be done |

kikuyu1: Imo,you Saffies aren't being honest! All countries copy, borrow or "cough!/cough!" steal designs to a certain extent. You own Ratel was an E German design while the Rooivalk has both French and Russian influence. Woo equipment isn't all crap. They're simply following the ways of the West we don't learn in school textbooks. I'd really like us to take this discussion elsewhere cause we really need to clear up this stubborn Saffie misconception-but not on that other thread! I wouldn't step in there at gunpoint. What East German Design? When the Ratel came out it was first in it's class. The only thing one could say we copied was from again France since it uses the same turret of the Eland witch where upgraded AML armoured cars. There is nothing German about it at all. We only started to work with Germany post 1990 The rooivalk has nothing Russian in it at all, it is based on a French Puma helicopter a transport helicopter but they did not provide any technical support. And we don't mind basing, copying or borrowing Design elements. China out right steals techs, repacks and resells. They sold Nambia M16 copies that are complete crapp |

MikeCZA: Let's just say they are troublesome.
Maybe in attacking surface targets.
It isn't just the fire control unit(radar, IR sensor etc)
I believe it was the because of funds that the revolver guns which were demonstrated to the SANDF(Their C-RAM capability) were aren't purchased. They no more of a issue than a rouge 12.7mm, the VSP on a mine hunter, the 20mm or what ever. The DPG is fundamentally a 35mm GDF a tried and tested platform. Or maybe they though it was not needed since the cost are not worth the benefits |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by andrewza: 12:13pm On Sep 23, 2016 |
MikeCZA: Wish a naval version(CIWS) of the missile to be developed in the future to replace the problematic Dual purpose guns.
Looks like the defence force isn't satisfied with the performance of the 35mm guns in the C-RAM role. Rheinmetall demonstrated their revolver guns to the defence force prior to the upgrade.
Now that the C-RAM missile looks like to be going ahead. Wonder what will happen to the Stealth Ingwe.
Would have gave SA an opportunity to maintain skills not taught any where but I doubt the lads with the skills(stealth tech) are still around. What the problem with the 35mm guns, remember the DPG on the frigates can do a lot more than the Cheata CRAM could ever doand though I could see a navlized version it would supplement not replace. The DPG are not going any where and are one of the best CIWIS out there. The 35mm was not purchased for C-RAM. They air defence and that is it. The Sky Shield Radar is what made it possible but even then that was the uninitiated but welcomed result of making the radar better. Far more basic version of the gun with a far more basic radar have the most kills from the Falkland's war |

chinese8107: you have been brain washed deeply by the US or western media.
sure you have your own version of SAAB, Rhiemtall, you also have some of your own technology.but can not change the fact mainly rely on the WEST.without US or German MTU engine your fighter cannot fly, submarine cannot dive.
calling China theaft? even now you have shown no direct evidence but based on some report or media assumption.
I 'v read the al-jazza version of inteligence of the South Africa reactor's story.what media is it? who do they speak for ?
China can help UK build nuclear power plant why she must steal South Africa reactor's technology instead of cooperate ? Then what about your reactor now?still operational ?
China can cancel zimbabwe $40 million debt. why she can not buy some MRAP technology.
do you think USA is the moral model ..any other westen country never source technology from outside country by any means?
Have you heard about the mig-25 story in 1976 flying to Japan ?
understandable.Because SA has aleady choosen to"standing on one side". You do know the CCP spends millions to shuff there propagander through western media outlets And so what the ships you sold to Nigeria use MTU engines South Africa has not denied the leak has been false. And evidence was provided your blind patriotism means you ignore it The pebble bed reactor was a new reactor and SA did not take it any farther due to costs. And who said you cant buy technology, buy it all. But you guys steal not buy You are from china not USA. SA does not like America either. The mig was flown by a defector and said Mig had a lot of western tech in it the USSR stole. SA stands on the SA side. |

Henry240: The only threat they have come from Botswana, That's it. One more, the FA-50 is a light multi-role fighter jet in the same class as the Gripen, JF-17 and LCA. I don't see how the FA-50 is obsolete or less advanced than it's competitors. Technically they have no threats but they need to think of the future. Botswan is looking at 8 gripens, Angola as SU30s, and a bunch of older Russian jets and South Africa as Gripens even the L15 is out classed |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by andrewza: 12:31pm On Sep 21, 2016 |
Henry240: Very good choice for Zambia. Instead of the J-10, Namibia should go for this or the FA-50. Mali, Burkina-Faso, Ivory Coast and Cameroun should also consider the L-15. Namibia should join Botswana in getting Gripens. SAAB and Denel have a full set up support serves in South Africa. |

chinese8107: I must not say those article is 100% fake .but still has many flaws.
Zeiss Co is a german company, the fact is many African weapon subsystem contains Western Technology. So if the technology belongs to others. It can be obtained from many other souces or channels including but not nececerily limited to"buy", "leak" or"steal"..
China or any other none western county not nececerily ask or employ some people to steal some technology. some individual or bulglar group may want to illeally get and sell them for money. they can automatically find buyer.
Such is the case that Isreal found a F-16 engine stolen.they could be sold to anywhere any country as long as buyer have money.no matter 2nd hand 3rd hand http://www.geek.com/news/several-f-16-jet-engines-stolen-in-israel-1531649/feed/
As for MRAP technology .Had China not bought from SA, it could get from elsewhere, like Russia or Ukraine.
In fact the western technology embargo to China is almost failed already.EU is dicussing to lift the arms trade ban. UK aleady leaves the EU. German company MTU is considering to cooprate with China to jointly develop a jet engine for commercial use.
Russia just signed a contract with China to co-develop a Boeing 787 size commercial plane with 35 tons thrust engine to compete with USA and Airbus South African division. It came around due to our submarine purches. We gave a requirement for a perscope that the Germans thought impossible. Since then we have had a partnership. We have a SA division of SAAB, Rhiemtall, and several other companies. Face the music your home country is a nation of thieves and criminals and all CCP members should be burnet alive Sure go get substandard MRAP tech. |

chinese8107: No supprise
The SA follows the western especially US media and policy.
But even US media is cautious fabricating some news.Anserwer me a simply question,do you think CNN is 100% truth, and can be trusted.
USA Japan and some Western countries always bashing China and Russia on various issues,as if they are moral. But many contries still follow for various reasons. I don't watch CNN the pebble bed reactor theft came to light from leaked intelligence documents and the rooivalk and A darta are from denel who wont work with china. Personaly I think the CCP is a corrupt cancer that needs to be wiped out. China builds ghost cities to inflate there GDP, murders prisoners locked up for the faith and harvest there organs, bulldozed a church with the priest in side. I will not post links, do your own research and funny you mention western media since china as in vest millions of USD to put there propergander in western media. |

chinese8107: Even you know this scenario, sounds like every thing can be “buy one and copy.“ Then why still some people negotiate about TOT ?
Both side ensure the failed bit. Sorry but it not the china SOP. You well known for making illegal copies and stealing information. You cant be trusted |

chinese8107: I guess not that simple, they may want to by TOT but knowning this could be interupt by USA, instead they say buying 1.
China do have similar technology ,this concept was first created by german scientist in1950s.SA has the leading tech in this field.
How or whether the data was stolen by China.I don't know ,but I know the technology is still not mature in China. And SA closed the reactor aleady around 2010. or you buy one to copy it and build cheap knock offs. The data was stolen and then china started making great gains so it looks strange does it not |

chinese8107: Yes,some "sub-standard" knock-offs,is not as good as the original, but far less expensive price. China made knock-offs weapons because of being embargo by US and EU for decades.
China has little to no arms deal with SA. The only deal I know is CS/VP3 is bought TOT from SA. So you mean steal what technology?
South Africa follow the USA and EU 's embargo agaist China. No supprise on the black list. rooivalk, A darter, pebble bed reactor are from the top of my head |

tdayof: Funny thread. South African Chinese...
Truth be told, unless inferior has another meaning I don't know, how are Chinese defence products inferior to SA? Are you trying to say the Chinese produce less quality or export less quality defence hardwares ? If you mean export, then no big deal but when it comes to homeland use/production, calling the Chinese products inferior is out of it. China as a habit of making sub standard knock offs. I spoke a officer from the Namibian Navy and he really did not like there M16 knock off from china. All so china as tried many times to steal our tech so many south Africans don't like them. I think they still on Dennels black list |

Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by andrewza: 2:12pm On Sep 18, 2016 |
Henry240: I'm saying it is better. I wasn't referring to what you were saying.
The 57mm is standard for Kazhakstan. Let me rephrase what i meant on the Turret. I'm saying the Mbombe 8x8 can carry a Turret that fires both the 30mm, a Coaxial 7.6mm and an ATGM. All in one module.
Do you need reading glasses? I made no mention of the SANDF. I'm saying the Mbombe is a better vehicle than the Patria. there is nothing stopping the SANDF using the same layout used by Malaysia where the turret as the 30mm, coaxel mg and Ingwene ATGMs. All so the TRT can fit just about any platform. The badger is still the better product with vastly better armour and ergonomics and bush upgrades tailored for the SANDF. |
