souldust: @andrewza you are serious the NNS thunder was in SA? How did you know its a Nigerian navy ship and how did you know it is NNS thunder and not anyother ship? Did you really meet the crew? What came to your mind when you saw NNS thunder(if you actually saw it), the same ship you've talked about here on Nairaland.

Did you talk about it with your colleagues?
I am in the navy so when i got to work there was a new ship there. And we knew long before it was there that it was coming i even know when it is leaving.

I know it is NNS thunder because there is a name board on it.

Yes a few of them, we tried to arrange a tour but when i was free they where taking on fuel and when they were free i was busy.

First thought was that is a new ship. I i know the profile of brit, german , american, french, indian extra boats. But Thunder is a very different lay out. second though was the color scheme was darker than most.

Yep that old USCG donation.

Augustine Again: Over 50,000 of these Liberian Rebels fought against Nigerian Army

liberian civil war which nigeria fought is 10 times more d.eadly than CAR seleka war of south africa. nigerian army fought phase one in the cities and villages, and phase two inside deep west african equatorial rain forest jungles of d.eath

it is easier to fight a regular national army whom you can see, identify and locate, than to fight drug/hemp smoking juju/magic charms carrying and human flesh eating cannibal rebel army who never obey any international laws of war and hide in tens of thousands inside thick jungles/forests.....why did mighty American army avoid fighting in liberia, and great British army avoid intervention in sierra leone when the jungle war was raging at its peak for many years ?

the Americans and British armies have not forgotten the h.orror of jungle warfare in Burma and Vietnam, they leave Nigerian army alone to enter the forests of h.orror in liberia and sierra leone wars.

Nigeria won all these wars in clear victories....world recognized

Are you trying to be miss leading on purpos?

50 000 rebels but they never attacked with all 50 000, seleka is 8000 now thought to be 12 000 strong of that 8000 SA fought 3000.

Next how many nigerian solders. Were there and with what gear.

Liberia and serrie leon were a joke. Rebels so high and brain washed that they though they were built proof and did not know how to aim. Yes real hard.

Augustine Again:
Susette Gates Conspiracy : how seleka rebels spared the lives of south african soldiers

contrary to claims by south africans that their army killed 500, then 600, and finally adjusted figure to 800 seleka rebels, the truth if logically proved that the south africans actually surrendered or begged the seleka rebels to allow them to escape in peace to the airport to come under french army protection.

QUOTE :

"Parliamentarians also warmly clapped when informed of the bravery of another female, Susette Gates, who works in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF)

She was confronted by the rebels who wanted to take the bags she’d retrieved. But she convinced them that she was carrying clothes left behind. She hitch hiked to the airport with French troops. "

SOURCE

http://www.sanews.gov.za/south-africa/parly-applauds-heroines-bravery

south african army did not kill any 500 or 600 or 800 seleka rebels otherwise the rebels in anger would have killed Susette Gates out of anger and revenge. only few rebels were killed, maybe about 100.

i had a battlefield simulation done with a retired combat soldier who has real life battlefield experience of infantry warfare, and a good knowledge of the american-somalia rebels firefight called 'black hawk down'.

conclusion was that there is no way south african army will lose 13 men while seleka rebels will lose 800 men to create a new world record infantry combat kill ratio of 1:61, that will be a new world record he said.

we looked critically at the weapons the seleka rebels had :

14.5mm double barrel anti-aircraft guns mobile truck mounted with firing range of about 5km and firing rate of about 1,000 rounds of ammunition in 5 minutes and it can pierce through light armour vehicles, for a human body it will tear the soldier into pieces.

105mm mobile anti-tank bazooka rocket launchers with range of about 2km and its rockets can pierce through heavy armour vehicles.

general purpose machine guns with range about 2km and rate of fire 5,000 bullets in 5 minutes.

AK-47 rifles were also used by the estimated 2,500 seleka force against the estimated 250 man south african army force.

the senior commanders of seleka are said to have at least average army military training in chad before their rebellion.

the south africans were out numbered in ratio 10 men against 1.

the seleka rebels used element of surprise attack because the south africans were not expecting them.

seleka was fighting at home and had advantage of knowledge of all the land and bush routes the south africans could use.

seleka rebels knew all the escape routes the south african army could use to escape and had blocked it, that is why corporal Nkoana went through hidden bush paths and still fell into the hands of seleka rebels who spared her life.

the seleka rebels did not need to get close to the south africans before wiping them out, their base was known and the mobile anti-aircraft guns with deadly amour piercing rapid firepower can tear the south africans into pieces from a distance of 1km away.

we simulated and discovered that with the above, the south african army can never kill 800 seleka rebels and lose only 13 men in about 18 hours of fighting.

as a form of simulation control/comparison, we related the battle of bangui to the american army battle against north korea in 'task force smith' 1950 korean war, where america was outnumbered in this same ratio 10:1, with 400 american specially selected soldiers against 4,000 regular north korean soldiers in the infantry encounter. in a few hours of combat 200 of the 400 american soldiers were dead or wounded and they retreated fast away from the battle field.

task force smith experience in war teaches world armies that you can never have a high kill ratio against a superior enemy unless their hands are tied to their backs with chains. you are more likely to lose the war to superior numbers and superior weapons, you cannot turn that situation around unless you chain the hands of the superior force so that you can k.ill them defenseless

in vietnam war 1965 to 1974, despite the awesome american land sea and air firepower superior to the communists, the kill ratio is estimated at 2:3, in favour of america/allies.

they did fight, but the south african army surrendered after losing the said 13 soldiers or likely even more, to avoid being totally wiped out, they surrendered to seleka and negotiated for a safe passage out of the area, that is clear from the fact that SANDF Susette Gates met with the seleka rebels they were said to be fighting with and she merely talked with them and they let her walk away without any harassment ! surely south african army had begged seleka to spare their lives and promised to leave CAR forever and never come back, for this reason, the rebels did not kill more of them and let them go free.

the south african propaganda kill ratio of 1:61 in their own favour, is a historical fraud in the history of war where the the so called winner is heavily out numbered and out gunned and also caught by surprise in a foreign territory they don not know well

chris365: you see how you keep confusing yourself. did AU, FOMAC and UN approved your reinforcement when the crisis got hotter? now they killed you and chased you away you don't know what to blame anymore.

first it was france didn't allow you use the airport, FOMAC didn't support you, government got oppositions at home.... blah blah blah. can you stick to one please!

fact is that you fled after you encountered touch child soldiers from seleka. what would have happened had the men come out to kill grin
They were not asked, but providing support to your solders under threat is different to sending in a invasion. When we left there was zero threat to us and a cease fire was in effect.

No FOMAC did not want our help, we offered but they did not want to remove selka. CAR is not in SADC any destination must be under theres, AU or UN mandate. And FOMAC were a bunch of cowards who ran away.

No we withdrew from a pointless situation that we had no legal obligastion to be in, our agreement was with bozzie and he was gone. And most of the people we fought were men. hell most of the kids were 16 or older, rhodsia had 16 year old soldiers

But i have mentioned this before
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 1:56pm On Aug 18, 2013
agaugust: ....thats the reason why you cannot k.ill 800 seleka rebels and only 13 south African soldiers died, you were outnumbered and outgunned 10 times more.

....and seleka was not fighting with their hands chained to their backs grin

.
Why because nigeria can not do it, did you see the loss rate for cubans vs SADF for ops Hopper.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 1:54pm On Aug 18, 2013
chris365: o.. so now you have an explanation. after you scrambled jets and helics to Zambia(can't remember) only to flee after seeing what these child soldiers can do
Those are from Chad by the way, i have posted the pics of the seleka some time ago.

We left because there was no order to go in, FOMAC, AU and the UN did not aprove any mission or ask for help. And they killed 15 for the loss of 800, that is pretty poor.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 1:42pm On Aug 18, 2013
chris365: yeah right.. and that's the kind of people that chased you out of CAR that you packed your jets and helicopters and fled like scared babies. grin
Should i post the pick of the Seleka rebels, all had camo, maintained weapons, support weapons and were for the most part trained or veteran units.

We had no jets, helicopters or anything heavier than a 12.7mm MG. Nor did they they chase us out we left due to our mandate for being there being null and void. We offered our aid to FOMAC but still no response.

Just like to point out that Project Hoefyster calls for 1000 IFV of them 250 are badgers. The rest could be a nother badger order or more likly the cheaper ikwla. In total the army projecs call for

1000 IFV
3000 APC (RG35, RG protector, springbuck, ikwela apc version extra)
3000 logistcal support vechils (upgraded samils, mercadies, tatra, extra)
250 tanks (was ment to be the chalenger and leclar but the producstion line is closed for both products. So the lepard 2 is now the fron runner

All ready purchesd was 1800 modfied land crussiers for a border patrol vechiel.

O and the entier leadship of armscore was fired due to delays in these deals. The money was provided but they caused the delay.

i can speak with the authority of an accountant.

Debt is ONLY good if used for production of consumer goods and services to provide measurable benefits for the company that borrows to do business and make profit, or the government that invests the debt in economic growth especially to increase production of essential utilities and consumables as well as improve the standard of living and quality of life of its people.

show me how another batch of new south african navy submarines and warships will lead to more production of goods and services for the citizens of south africa to live a better quality of life.....will people cook and eat missiles and torpedoes in soweto ?

NaijaPikinGidi: Unless you have information that Nigeria's F7s were not engaged in combat flights, strikes or reconnaissance missions in Mali, I suggest you back-off
Unless you can show a F7 that conducted a strike mission in malil back off. All info was to that they did recon. They not very good in the air to ground role.

NaijaPikinGidi: Must I answer that? If I must do, kindly state your definition of combat?
Attempt or achieving a mission were the goal is to kill. Recoan flights are not combat missions a ceasnor with a FLIR could do the job.

When has a F7 from nigeria done any combat missions.

Msauza: Wrong! Umbani is very fast and have personally saw it in Lohatlha, there is no much of a difference because umbani is a bomb on a body of missile capsule. The difference between a missile and bomb is that a missile penetrates while a bomb explodes. A bomb cannot be used as an Anti-tank since it does not have the power to penetrate, but can cause a lot of frustrations.
Depends on the tank and size and type of bomb. There are even speciol cluster bombs made to destroy AFV.

It was a minor accident that cannot amount to an actual crash caused by the pilot who was flying very low and accidentally collided with electric cables. The Rooivalk dropped to the ground and suffer minor damages with no one injured.
The dutch did the same thing, caused a black out.

agaugust: your Umkhonto missile can keep on radar locking and unlocking as many Alpha jets as it wants, fact is that it will waste all its efforts because the Alpha jets will fly at 13km above sea level outside the range of the Valours Umkhonto missiles, or some flying demonic spirits in the air will use their bat wings to help south african missiles fly more than their technical range from DENEL grin

.
And at that rang or altuid will be of zero threat I mean zero.

agaugust: for the 7th time in 70 days i repeat on this forum that in gulf war iraqi Roland SAM shot down 2 British Royal Air Force Tornado Jet Fighters that have maximum speed 2,400km/hr. Alpha Jet speed is only 1,000km/hr, so how is Roland SAM built to shoot down only Alpha Jet types when it shot down very powerful and sophisticated Tornado Jets ?

are you keeping records ? be counting how many times i put the backs of all you south africans in the mud and made your soldiers on nairaland to drink gutter water grin

will likely exit forum this month because i am tired of you south africans senseless posts and making me to repeat an argument 7 times in 70 days because of your r.etarded soweto b.rains

.
A zsu 57-2 shot a tornado and they have been obsoliet since the 1960s i mean sa shot down a few fast movers with 20mm on the back of trucks. your point is invalaid. did you even check the circmstance in our those 2 tornados were shot down? aka flying low.
