Hello good people of nairaland . I am new to this forum, it is through search to my problem I got this forum. I and my wife is confused and in big dilemma right now. We need advice and suggestions what we can do to solve the problem we are in right now. We never knew that this problem will come up like this and never knew that my wife will get idenfite leave this soonest. We lost hope on it. lawyers are charging us alot to solve the problem. (£1400)My wife is based in the UK. In 2013 she came to Nigeria we got married in court and did small traditional marriage .Then my wife spent three weeks bf she left UK and promise to fille spouse visa for me but my wife was refused indenfite leave two times in 2015&2017. I got frustrated staying alone ,so my family was contemplating calling off the marriage bc they need grand kids and me too need to settle down. I was also refused visiting visa twice bf I got married. So I re-applied again for visiting visa this May 2019 through an agent and the agent advice that I put single in the application instead of married. The reason the agent put single is that he said that home office will denied my visa application if I write that my wife stays in the UK and homeoffice will refuse it bc they might think I will not like to come bk again. So I agree to what the agent said, we put single. I got the visiting visa and travel around June. And also I and my wife deceided that I will not come bk bc my wife av been trying to conceive. My wife put in for her papers again, To the glory of God my wife was given Indenfite leave just yesterday .But the problem now is that i wrote I was single in my visiting visa application. Please house can my wife still apply for spouse visa for me using our previous court marriage certificate? Will the visa be denied bc of saying I was single in my visiting visa application? If my wife explain to ECO in cover letter will they give me spouse visa? Should I come back to Nigeria and apply for marriage visa, so that we can remarry again in the UK and then I go bk to Nigeria and the spouse visa will be filled? We spoke to my wife lawyer she said we can apply for spouse visa but need to explain all in cover letter to ECO why I decided to put single in my visiting visa application. Please I need suggestions and advise from the house. I and my wife are in serious dilemma. Please I will appreciate advice to this situation or suggestions on what can be done. Or is there any body that have lied in visa application and apologize and got visa? I really need to be with my wife so that we can start making babes. Thanks you.
You could have met and married her while you were here. So it doesn’t matter if you put that you were single or not. What me I’m after (other than your plastic love for your wife) is if you overstayed. If you overstayed, just humbly wait till after 10 years then apply for residency. If you didn’t overstay, you have only one problem, which is divorcing your wife and re-marrying her Cos your singlehood will not tally with your lie if you provide a court certificate that says you married before you declared how single you are.

Also, i’m wondering how home office didn’t see through your lies since you declared being married twice then declared you’re single without a divorce cert. it must have been an inept person working on your application OR Gods favour.

I don’t have an answer to your dilemma.
I rather had a question in my mind.
If I were you wife, I would be careful, very careful.
A man whose family (and himself too) thinks it’s ok to divorce me sake of say dem wan grand-pikin...wahala dey!

I hope your wife doesn’t follow this thread on Nairaland to see that you & your family had actually contemplated divorcing her because the grand children haven’t arrived yet.
Swear I was thinking the same.. what a very conditional love!

Can somebody please explain to my why a current account switch will adversely affect my credit score?? I’m so annoyed.

And I didn’t ask for overdraft o, I’m sure I cancelled it sef. Why should opening a normal account affect credit score? E just no make sense at all!

Anyway, just got on the Lifetime ISA bandwagon. It sounds too incredible that I feel there’s a big but. Does anyone have experience with the Lisa? If me and hubby open our own lisa, in two years, we are looking at 20k deposit for our house.. it just sounds too good to be true.

Hi guys I passed my driving lessons my second time on the 15th of July with two minors ( failed my first attempt on the 25th of june, cut the last corner to the test centre. Literally the last minute of the test).

I had 3 hrs Training in April then switched instructors and had 14hrs with my new instructor ( block booking savend me a few) before my first attempt and had just 2hrs a day before my second attempt plus 1hr on the test date. I also watched a lot of YouTube videos about driving mistakes, mock tests etc. About 100 hrs of YouTube. ( I know I am a YouTube addict)

Got my insurance today with admiralty ( not black box but similar, I get a device I plug into 12v power outlet for 6months and send it back to them) for roughly 1300.

Got my first car off a friend nissan note.

Things to note.

1 I got a 650-800 quotes when I was shopping for insurance with my provisional license, as I have had it for close to 2 years. But when I passed and was shopping for insurance I couldn't get anything below 1300..

2. Passing the test is just about being calm and relaxed, a few minors won't fail you. If you are on sure just wait and take your time to decide ( a lot of faults come from poor planning.

Good luck everyone.
Congrats dear.

Shame will not allow me to share why me I failed my own test, so I will just revel in yours. Congrats again

So a car will just break down after....... cars break down after full making the final payment. grin . Evidence please huh

Some people buy used cars that are 10 years old and it never gives no trouble for 5 years and more ... My friend bought a brand new range rover and that car has been trouble here and there... either Hcp, PCP or cash buy buy a good performing car and it will ride well regardless of any payment schedule

If you want to do pcp that fine but what you just typed me too i dont agree
Lol first off, when you’re doing a PCP or HP, they still own the car so they maintain it very well for you (not so sure about HP though). But once you buy it, other than the fact that the car is now old and will tire from usage, it could be because most people don’t take it to the best mechanics to repair it and all.. why do you think those finances don’t go past 5 years? Cos the dealers know they are reaching a dangerous usage time. I work in insurance so I know about this.

Your argument about your friends brand new car breaking down further reiterates my point of a financed car Cos now baba has bought bad market.

What matters is that cars hardly breakdown during the financing period Cos they are maintained properly, hence the high rate of breakdowns after it is bought. If only 2 cars breakdown during financing and 4 breakdown after financing, shey it’s more than the 2? So we can say it’s high- welcome to my statistics class. cheesy

@bold .... ok if you say so. How did you sample that reason. If that the reason for you , where is the evidence that that is the reason behind all PCP cheesy grin and not just your own personal take. ...... the option of balloon payment shows some people do care about buying the car

Also A PCP is a form of hire purchase (HP) ....
Because it’s common sense.

For HP, you pay more monthly during the payment duration and this makes the car more affordable after paying for it for 3-4 years but PCP is always so cheaper monthly then so expensive to buy the car after 5 years.

After driving a car for 4-5 years, most people get bored and would want to change their car, also, statistics show that the cars break down after full making the final payment (after the 3-4 years of expensive HP monthly payments). So why don’t you just switch the car and start another PCP. You’re not bound by any rule to by at the end of the term.

Consider a TV set. Imagine doing HP for a 32 inch tv for 4 years, only for you to make the final payment and find out that theres a 50in with WiFi connection, alexa and Netflix that is now out? E go pain you wella!

Like I keep saying: credit is good if you’re smart about it, not when you’re doing it because you want to show off rather than the need to enjoy the latest functionalities.

Lots of people are doing PCP route these days as it affords them the luxury of driving newer or better cars that they might not have been able to drive on a cash and carry system.... I personally stick to my budget and do cash and carry but i seen so many of naija friends doing PCP route

i think in both system, a car is a depreciating asset so you cannot win either way ........... So hey people then go through PCP route, its one life to live then enjoy it comfortably . But you are right once you start the PCP route you end up staying in that route for a long time because you cannot say let me sell this car and add to buy another .
As usual, I love you and your contributions, but this time you’ve got an incorrect perception. This is pcp not hp. People doing pcp don’t care about buying the car, they just want to drive it. After a while, when you’re tired (provided your credit score is good enough) you can change the car to the next latest car or less and pay more money or less respectively.

PCP is cheaper than HP with no MOTs or sometimes, no insurance premium included (most PCPs sef, you will never need to take the car to mechanic, the dealer with sort it for you). The only clause is, as far as you can keep up with the payments, don’t jamb the car and have a good credit rating, you’re good to go.

Also, As far as you live within your credit means, you’re good to go. The problem arises when you earn 1k monthly and your PCP is 5h grin

True talk my brother. Just commonsense. It is not only about saving but common sense.
A lot of folks here go for all these massive cars on PCP ooo not outright ownership despite working in mediocre jobs just to feel among. Why not cut your coat according to size.
Save reasonably and get yourself a car that will serve you and your family well.
Na wetin dey kill us for 9ja be this, showing off cars forgetting cars have massive depreciation and driving small cars with big efficient engines are the best ways to enjoy yourself in this country
I was initially against PCP and HP cars until someone made a valid point to me. He said “why should I buy a liability when I can just pay for it like I’m renting a house?!”

That’s when it hit me. No car is an asset. The moment you drive it out of the dealership, it has lost its value, so why then should I spend money buying a car that will only keep depreciating, When I can easily pay effortlessly every month for a new car and new perks..?
Why own something that will keep depreciating and you can’t change it until you’ve used it for maybe 5 years.

It’s no longer about status, I remember someone here saying something about how good it is to buy new cars because you get the best functionalities and you know the car won’t breakdown anytime soon.

For now I’ll still buy a small car to get my insurance right for a year or two, then start doing PCP.

Thanks. That might be my backup option. But I still don't really get it. Do you know if HSBC CC have that option or would I have to get a intermediary card?

I was really attracted to the 3.3% loan which would have made good sense to me. Say I take a 10k loan at that rate and space out the repayment over 4 years, I'd repay in total about 10.6k. Extra 675 which doesn't seem bad considering the time involved.
But then, it seems the rate varies and the main issue is not getting the loan but getting a good rate. I may give it a few more months, try and build my credit score in the little way I can and apply to see the rate I'm offered.
I read somewhere that since that's the advertised rate, they're legally bound to offer that rate to at least 50% of customers. If this is true, then hope to make the cut.
Bruv, you won’t get that interest rate. You def need a high credit score, longer UK residency and default-free ongoing credit. Even my own bank that I’ve had for 5 years offered me 29% because I had no credit history.

The credit card option is a better route. But apply for the loan. Experience na the best teacher

in Nigeria, if your car breaks down, you have a roadside mechanic and you can sort it out with maybe 5k or 10k....or less. Here, if your brake pad fails, you can spend as much as £250.which is not cost effective if your car is only worth £600! Or the insurance for 1 year worth twice the value of the car. So it becomes a money pit
I understand now. So if a car has a lot of mileage, it would also have an expensive insurance premium. Nawa! All the cheap cars (under 2k5) cars that I want to buy and use to build my insurance in this country are so ugly eh! E be like say na bicycle I go buy last last cry

I got my uk spousal visa last year. Is my visa temp or perm?

When I applied for my MIL, she was given at first attempt while my mum got on second attempt..my MIL used 3 months statement while my mum used 6 months..the former had a migration history while the latter had none

However the key in Visa applications is to be able to explain yourself properly in you cover letter. It is adviced to add a cover letter with subtitles explaining every detail in your application (then on the online application state that you have a more detailed cover letter attached to the supporting documents)
Many thanks for this. I think I’ll just use my own statement and not my husbands. I initially wanted to submit both or his only (because his is my sponsor) but this 5 month thing get as e be, so I’ll just submit mine only after all my statement bam on its own, I just wanted extra assurance.

The major things the entry clearance officer looks out for are
1. Can you sponsor the trip, that includes her flight ticket to and fro, her accommodation during the period of stay, her upkeep and the duration of stay. The longer she stays, the more money you should have.
2. On her part she must prove that she has strong ties to Nigeria meaning she would return after the trip...strong ties include having a good paying job, landed property, a business and things she would want to get back to. Her finances should also be well explained, usually cash deposits into her account need to be explained especially if the deposits are in large sums of up to 50k at a time...cash deposits from you is kindof a disadvantage as it shows she would be dependent on you during the visit
Nice reply!

Curious, must it be 6 months statement? Can’t it be 3? Husband had an overdraft in his salary account but he moved some of his savings into the salary now Andria looking great, but 5-6 months ago, it was in the minus. Won’t this affect us when I use his 6 months statement sponsor with the overdraft to sponsor a relative?

Or will the last 3 months from me and him just be enough?
