salford:Well, if kings are still relevant or not depends on those in their domains. You can only really judge the one in your ancestral place, Actually not everywhere it is based on money. Many remain by male primogeniture. From birth as first born son. So no kingmakers, just king crowners upon ascension. Since no human has any power to depose. If govt even tries to depose or depose for political reasons, no other person will ever take the throne until the kings passes on. Look around enough and see places where primogeniture is practised. I have long argued that primogeniture is the best as the prince is raised from birth for the role. But some say rotation is better. With the high level of corruption in Nigeria, it's most likely that the rich and influential princes will be selected over the average ones. Irrespective of character, temperament or preparedness for the role. A former Nigerian general, police boss, politician, university professor, businessman, customs boss, NNPC boss, top bankers and all those who cut their teeth in the most corrupt sections of Nigerian system end up as kings in recent decades. Not a coincidence that they are almost always the richest among the princes who contest for the throne. Whenever something becomes a competition to be decided by umpires working in secrecy , politics and corruption can't be faraway. Like deciding who to host Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, etc. Even worse in Nigeria. |
Lol. Ok. |
Captainrambo2:The guy dey go anywhere except for ear treatment before? Or the odd tape cutting when invited by some governors. The cabal have quarantined him since 2015. ![]() |
Another game to chop money and favour a section of this country. |
OK. |
This might sound "tribalistically" fantastic to exclude non-Yoruba from Lagos Amotekun. Such a multicultural state. Some people moved from other states at the age of 7 and are now 22 years old. Lagos is now his/her home. It's all he knows. Yet cannot join Amotekun. SW should know they are officially setting a precedent, Because these are parliamentary acts. It might go down in history that SW was first to legally put barriers in the way of non-Yoruba from entering Amotekun. English is still the official language of Nigeria. People may have forgotten that Zik's bad experience contesting in the Western region later harmed Nigeria as a whole. It meant Zik & Awo could never trust each other to work together in our interest. So they allowed Balewa & Bello to rule Nigeria. I am not even talking of other SW states. Those states are not nearly as tolerant or diverse as Lagos. |
sarrki:Sarrki, abeg when did you visit Damascus? Is it the sound and chaos of Assad's bombing that reformatted you like this? From fear that Nigeria might experience something worse if all that ass-licking continued? ![]() Because this new Sarrki is on Pauline conversion levels. Abi dem swap you with someone from Uganda like they brought us Al-Sudani? ![]() |
LordAzubuike:Lol. The boy get luck sef. She nor even rub pepper for the wound. ![]() But that was those days. Life has moved on. There is no need beating kids that much. Modern parenting skills are needed now. There is too much violence in society. Some kids may come to see physical violence as a way to pass a message across or express emotion. Maybe beating of kids helped to keep some kids on the straight and narrow. But maybe it also gave us the many violent men and women we have in the society today. Alongside other biopsychosocial issues. |
Olu317:Lol. You have very little knowledge Olu. Anything that doesn't fit into your narrow tribal prism is automatically misleading. Lots of Edo names survive. But that's not even in doubt because I go to these places and I know. Olu are you going to tell me my history in Yorubaland? Benin was the centre of an empire. So it was necessarily accommodating. People from across the empire are part of Benin elite today. Those who distinguished themselves especially. Let me remind you that the great-great grandfather of current Gov. Obaski came from Anioma. Obaseki was a chieftaincy title Oba Ovonramwen created specially for his childhood friend when he became King. The father of the childhood friend had accompanied Oba Adolor (Father of Ovonramwen) from Anioma exile to win the tussle for his throne. Empires accommodate. Rome adopted Greek gods when they conquered Greece. Such as Diana, Zeus, etc. Even Egyptian gods like Horus, Isis, etc. Naturally Eastern Yoruba who moved to imperial capital came with their deities so how is that surprising? It's even a sign of power that various ethnicity groups flourish across the land under vassal kings/chiefs. Only Oyo was an Empire in SW and I expect it would have had several ethnic groups in what is now North Central. Do not take the accommodating nature typical of ALL empires as a sign of weakness, quite the contrary. However, relatively small homogeneous Yoruba states could never be that tolerant. You are either Yoruba or nothing. Even today if there are 4 Yoruba people in a gathering of 15, they automatically begin speaking Yoruba, oblivious of others present. Lagos today is quite unique having being under various influences over the centuries and as a former Federal capital. Including Oba of Lagos, a Benin prince. Abeg spare us story of how Idejo own the land in Lagos blah blah. Benin were never out to dispossess people of land. Benin always had enough "Lebensraum". Ole-Okun is an indigenous Benin goddess. Is it not surprising that the landlocked Ife has a great Olokun tradition? It most likely came from Benin that has proximity to water bodies both rivers and the Atlantic. Oba Olua of Benin even sent his son Iginuwa to go and be the Lord of the Seas (Ogiame), with olokun priests. He is now Ogiame Olu of Warri. I know that tribal pride won't let you be objective. I on the other hand have far better reasons to be objective. Today on Edo State TV, news is read in Benin, Esan, Urhobo, Afemai, Izon, Yoruba, Igbo and other languages. Imperial past rooted various people in Edo/Benin long before Midwest and the people celebrate this diversity. Remember too that Benin suffered the worst marginalisation under the British. While they rewarded the mostly pliable Yoruba kings and their lands. Including physically stopping people coming from Akure to pay homage to Oba Eweka II in 1914. They did all they could to diminish Benin influence. Including refusing to build self-funded schools in Benin area. They are all in the archives in Westminster. So Yoruba grew in education and strength and became more united as a tribe. Unlike the eras of internecine Yoruba wars some generations back. So population politics began to make Yoruba more dominant and began deciding to write everyone's history. |
Zombies will still use tribalism to defend this. They will say he was already a billionaire before going into politics. ![]() Zombies I raise yansh for una o. Are these the people to implement APC restructuring manifesto promise? Nope, oil money from ND is too sweet. It will all blow up in their faces one day. I hope the people know the mansions to ransack like Mobutu & Boigny mansions when the time comes. |
franchasng:That maybe the case. But being poor shouldn't invite automatic violence from anyone. We're now in the 21st century when women can become soldiers, pilots, engineers, mechanics, etc. That woman didn't look disabled to me. So she can make her own money. Not go about being violent to men depending on their pockets. |
XhosaNostra:I see no reason for all this Western style proposal. But still people have freedom to do as they deem fit. It's certainly nothing new. The girl probably has another boyfriend and this guy was just a side-dude. That violence was probably out of fear of her real guy finding out. So she can claim she has nothing intimate with the guy. Such an openly violent lady can't make a good wife. He probably just dodged a bullet. Imagine if it was the other way round. Feminist wannabes would be frothing in the mouth by now. |
Gabson006:I guess she tried to hide and not fight. Apparently the side babe is married too. See wahala. If her hubby wants to forgive her, her in-laws nko? ![]() |
Finer than many girls o. |
Perfecttouchade:Sharp Sharp. |
MVP lady. Na she biko. Zim & Kenya, I raise nyansh for una o. |
HMMMMM MVP. |
We take things too lightly in 9ja. Distance or no distance, wearing protective gear would look professional and reassuring to the public. If even with Health Comm present no gear, who's to know what goes on with our lax attitude. My hunch is their tightly rationing protective gear after much of the budget would have been stolen. |
RIP. |
Oblang:Buhari was touted to bring security with his military background. Not to give excuses. |
chival:Suppose the hotel people are trying to cover themselves? Hopefully not. Autopsy with toxicology essential. |
Oblang:So you mean security in SW has improved so much that they need to support Buhari. ![]() Yet FG resisted at first. Haba! So all the herdsmen killings, kidnappings and banditry causing widespread anger in SW did not force governors to act? Abeg being a Buhari fan shouldn't blind to this extent na. I know people who have given up their fans because of herdsmen. I gave up mine over 2 years ago. I didn't want to send workers on a suicide mission. |
There is a misunderstanding. First Yoruba deny Benin controlled swathes of areas in Eastern Yorubaland. Up to Otun in Northern Ekiti. That place demarcated Oyo Empire from Benin Empire. Once people accept that historical fact then we can start from there. And begin to understand how Yoruboid people have been an are integral part of Benin and Edo in general. At the time Benin interacted with what is now Yoruba, the term Yoruba didn't even exist. You were Ijebu, Owo, Ekiti, Awori, Egba, Ife, Oyo, Akure, etc. The word that it crystallised into to describe Edoid-Yoruboid people is Edo n'Ekue (Ado-Akure). Irrespective of origin in Eastern Yorubaland. So officially we still do not call it Yoruba because Yoruba as a tag gained popularity much later. As an Ado-Akure, I can authoritatively say this. Even though my Yoruba links is not with Akure. My family in the area still produce a first class Oba in Yorubaland and has been same since centuries. It has increased to 2 first class Obas as recently revisited by Gov. Aketi. Ado-Akure people are very privileged in Edo. With my relatives alone having produced commissioners, a vice chancellor, central bank director, host of palace chiefs, a Duke/Enogie (since over 200 years), senior civil servants, etc. We visit relatives in Yorubaland frequently. Only some people do not master Yoruba language well nowadays, but they do not master Benin language either. In the last 200 years, Ado-Akure has produced 2 Benin Traditional Prime Ministers/Iyase, who is second in command to the Oba. Though not hereditary, he is the only person who can publicly disagree with the Oba without any sanctions. One of them, Chief Okoro-Otun was probably the longest serving Iyase in Benin history. He was Iyase to three Obas in the 1800s. In my opinion it's a blessing to straddle the cultural divide. News is read in Yoruba on Edo State Television. I know that if you do not toe the tribal line of our Southwest people, they are often not inclined to listen. Or even resort to verbal tirade. Yoruboid people of Edo are not complaining. No need for those from outside to stoke ethnic propaganda. |
LibertyRep:Yep. The deputy health minister. He was even coughing, sweating and wiping his face during a live press conference. Those were the symptoms though unknown then. He tested positive the next day. The VP is a woman who was a quasi speaker for Iranian revolutionists when they hijacked the American Embassy in Tehran 40 years ago. |
Kikikikikiki! Prof is talking as if those buffoons in power will listen. ![]() Let's quickly exhaust the extra-time we are running on. Let it collapse and rebuild afterwards. We may have sections of 9ja under Nnamdi Kanu, Shekau, Asari Dokubo, Oluomo and such people at first. Because only those with followers outside the current political Sodom & Gomorrah will disingenuously be able to claim moral high ground in the chaos. But like Rwanda, we will eventually be alright. Such natural solution seems the only option left now. Since common sense has failed. |
Talknochip:Actually a respected university. Sadly we seem to be exporting corruption to that place. He has used looted money to scatter-balance the head of those professors there. Just defending a PhD you claimed to have earned in 2002 or thereabout? Haba! If it's about national character, PhD holders in biological/life sciences plenty like water in the SE. |
oyebanji44:Hope you can decode his warning that if restructuring is resisted things may escalate to break up altogether. Like true federalism during his time has now escalated to restructuring. He is simply saying he who resists peaceful change makes a violent change inevitable. Even citing how Boko is getting outside and inside help to carry out violence as what might happen on a wider scale. Don't be driven by your hate for others but by the genuine love for the people of Nigeria. While OBJ knows and says the right things, he never did genuine federalism in his time. He had 8 years to do it. So he has contributed to the current mess. |
In Nigeria, the assaulted waiter would be in Kirikiri by now. Framed for first hitting them or even attempted armed robbery. Kenya is a far saner and better organised place than "big brother". |
spyder880:Thanks. |
JackBizzle:Nor mind them. East & West to central Africa have the oldest mankind. Colonial mentality wants them to be from Israel or Arabia. Very funny people. ![]() |
